My Publisher plugin Open Type Fonts DON'T PRINT iPhoto 6.0.5 (316)

I want to post this problem in the hopes it will save some other people the 7 months of frustration I have gone through with My Publisher.
Apparently, My Publisher is unable to print Open Type fonts. After 7 months of editing and re-editing photos, scanning and re-scanning photos, and placing 13 different orders, someone at My Publisher finally called me to help with the problem. The phone call came after I had emailed Walt Mossberg of the WJS about their total lack of customer service!
After every order I placed, for the same book, was cancelled, I received the exact same form email, which said I have a corrupt photo file/.jpg and I should fix it. I kept telling them that the Mac and iPhoto don't send them any .jpgs, only a PDF file. No matter what I told them, I got the same email in reply—I have a corrupt .jpg.
Once they decided to help me (after almost 7 months), we were able to narrow down the problem within a week. They had me produce the same book on a PC, which I was unable to do because they only have about 4 templates and 6 fonts to choose from and are nothing like iPhoto. I made a book and just randomly inserted all the photos, no text. The book printed fine, proving to My Publisher that there was nothing wrong with any of my .jpgs.
I questioned My Publisher as to why the PC was limited to 6 fonts and were they installed with their BookMaker software and they said "Yes." This led me to believe my problem was with the fonts and they agreed. After talking to them further about fonts, they said they had trouble printing Post Script fonts, but they had printed several books for me that used Post Script fonts. The culprit turned out to be an Open Type font. Once I changed the Open Type font to the True Type version, the book printed perfectly. I don't know if this problem was limited to only this particular font or all Open Type fonts.
I have asked My Publisher to pursue this problem and post information about it on their website so other people don't have to go through all this frustration.
Other than this problem, I have been very happy with all the books I have received from My Publisher. The quality has been excellent. The color is a bit off in a few photos some of the time, but for the most part, the color is quite accurately reproduced, at least to my eye. Hot pinkish/purple colors seem to pose a problem.

Thanks for the information. I hope to place my first order with them. I am searching for others' experiences to make sure I don't make the same mistakes.
Thanks again.

  • How can I use an Open Type Font in Dreamweaver?

I bought some OTFs, Open Type Fonts.  I want to use them in Dreamweaver. I am on a Windows machine. When I look at the Edit Font List section in Dreamweaver, it has a tiny selection of fonts. I know I have more on my computer.
How would I add these fonts for use in Dreamweaver ?   I have already installed them on my system.

<I don't understand the whole world of font-licensing, so I thought I would be safe by using these fonts which I have purchased with a commercial license.>
That doesn't mean the license extends to digital & web media though.
The fonts licensed by Kindle and included in the Fire are:
    Georgia
    Caecilia
    Trebuchet
    Verdana
    Arial
    Times New Roman
    Courier
Lucida (of which there are several and the one in Kindle appears to be Sans Unicode)
The new Kindle Paperwhite offers users the option to select:
    Caecilia
    Caecilia Condensed
    Baskerville
    Futura
    Helvetica
    Palantino
Older Kindles and the Kindle DX uses Caecilia only. The Kindle computer and mobile apps display the same as the Fire.
The prevailing opinion is that eBooks should not force fonts on people.  Let the user decide which body fonts are best for viewing on their particular device.

  • Open type font "Myriad Pro" support in Java AWT

    Hi
I have installed open type font "Myriad Pro" on my machine.
When I use the following AWT APIs on jre 1.6, I dont get the open type font "Myriad Pro" in the font list.
    Code snippet
    java.awt.GraphicsEnvironment     ge = GraphicsEnvironment.getLocalGraphicsEnvironment();
    if (ge != null) {
         java.awt.Font[] fontList = ge.getAllFonts();
The fontList variable doesnt have "Myriad Pro" font.
    My question is
    1) Is the open type font "Myriad Pro" supported by java AWT?
    2) Is there a workaround to get that particular font?
    Thanks
    Vikas

When I print out the list of all the fonts java recognizes on my machine, all the otf fonts (about 70 of them) are missing including Myriad Pro. All the true type fonts show up. You might need to convert the Myriad Pro into a true type font to get it recognized in java.

  • Why can't I get open type features to work properly with an open type font on InDesign CS5.5?

I installed a very complete set of styles of an opentype font with Font Book – Mac OS X 10.9.4 – but when I tried to format a sample text on InDesign CS5.5 I noticed that I could not use the opentype features on the Open Type menu as I usually do.
    Could anyone help me, please?

It's ffScala Sans, but has separate files for small caps, figures, etc.
I was trying to use small caps, lining figures and superscripts when I
noticed none of the OT features are available.

  • New MBP users using XP via Boot Camp - Can you install Open Type Fonts?

Have any of the new MacBook Pro owners that have been using Windows XP via Boot Camp been able to install Open Type Fonts, i.e. fonts that are sold by Adobe?
I have now tried this on two new MacBook Pros, and I have tried three different retail versions of Windows XP on each system. It just does not work.
I keep getting the "Unable to Install Font" message, which suggests that I contact the font vendor, which I have. I have also tried many different versions of different fonts.
After having troubleshooted with Adobe and Microsoft, and after having reinstalled Windows over 6 times on two different new MacBook Pros, I am starting to believe that this issue affects all new MacBook Pros.
For some points, could someone please try to install an Open Type Font in Windows XP, and let me know if you are successful?
    Thank you!

I had the exact same problem and *finally solved it*. I am running Windows XP Professional on a new MacBook Pro via BootCamp as well. Although its totally contradictory to logic, you need to use True Type fonts. I understand, you open your fonts folder and all the standard fonts are Open Type. We had purchased a font family that I had running on my Dell which used the exact same operating system. It was Open Type and it worked fine. I got a new MacBook Pro and was transfering everything over, including all of my fonts. The fonts that we purchased as or had converted to Open Type for me (the only windows guy working on graphics related stuff) were not loading on the new machine (MacBook Pro) even though they worked fine on the old (Dell). When I tried to install them, I kept getting an error that read something like "unable to install font. it may be corrupt, contact font vendor." I spent about a week with the font vendor trying to figure it out. no luck. One day I tried install a folder full of other fonts, mixed versions of True Type and Open Type, and all of the True Type installed and the Open Type did not. I got my hands on a True Type version of the font I was struggling with and now it works fine.
It makes no sense. Every person who seemingly knows way more about this type of stuff seems to think that this is not possible, and that I'm not smart enough to understand what I did. They will tell you that there is nothing different about running windows on a Mac than on a PC, in fact it should run better on a Mac, blah blah blah (not really true in actual practice as far as my experiences go). But this worked for me and I have no problems with it anymore. Good luck.

  • Boot Camp users using XP via Boot Camp, Can you install Open Type Fonts? 2

I have written this post as a continuation of the following archived thread, which has never been solved.
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1778497&start=0&tstart=0
Have any of the Boot Camp 3.0 users that have been using Windows XP via Boot Camp been able to install Open Type Fonts, i.e. fonts that are sold by Adobe?
I have now tried this on two new MacBook Pros, and I have tried three different retail versions of Windows XP on each system. It just does not work.
I keep getting the "Unable to Install Font" message, which suggests that I contact the font vendor, which I have. I have also tried many different versions of different fonts.
From the many complaints and troubleshooting in my original thread, we know that this is definitely an issue with Boot Camp, which prevents users from installing Open Type Fonts, specifically from Adobe.
Has anyone else experienced this with Boot Camp 3.0?
    Thanks!

The fix for this can be found here:
    http://www.thomasphinney.com/2008/12/no-font-instal/
It's a simple registry edit. It resolved the issue for us on both nVidia and ATI iMacs running XP in Bootcamp.
    Here's the relevant excerpt:
+Nvidia says the problem occurs on Windows XP only, and Vista users are unaffected, but at least one Vista user has reported they had this problem and the fix resolved it. It affects multiple NVidia cards, and some (unspecified) ATI cards. The fix, posted by David Ingraham in a horribly lengthy thread on the Adobe User Forums, and in a post by “PixelNinja” on the NVidia forums is this:+
+— start of email from HP —Good news. Nvidia has identified the problem and provided a fix. The way it was explained to me, Windows expects the device driver to be a certain size (maximum). In this case, the nvidia driver is slightly larger than expected. A simply registry entry will resolve the issue in WinXP (the issue doesn’t occur in Vista). To resolve the problem, do the following:+
    +Open the registry editor (regedit)+
    +Navigate to+
    +HKEYLOCALMACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management+
+Add a new REG_DWORD entry called SessionImageSize with a value (decimal) of 20+
    Reboot
+The Type 1 fonts should now open/install without any problems.+
+— End of HP email —+

  • Boot Camp users using XP via Boot Camp - Can you install Open Type Fonts?

Have any of the Boot Camp 2.1 users that have been using Windows XP via Boot Camp been able to install Open Type Fonts, i.e. fonts that are sold by Adobe?

    Thank you very much!

Experiencing the same from a fresh install of Windows XP on Boot Camp 2.1.
Tried 2 different scenarios. Installed Windows XP, Boot Camp Drivers, Open Type Fonts. Received an not a valid font file when trying to install. Installed Windows XP and then the Open Type Fonts. All fonts registered and accessed by the operating system without the Boot Camp Drivers. Installed the Boot Camp Drivers and checked the fonts, received error messages accessing fonts.
Pretty sure its the Boot Camp Drivers that are causing the problems with Windows and the fonts. Hopefully there is an updat to address this issue.

  • Slightly off topic but a query on open type fonts

    Hi all
I went to buy the frutiger fonts (9fonts) from adobe. The format is open type which is what I want. B ut when going to buy them I am asked whether I want mac or windows format. I thought open type fonts were cross platform? We have both MACs and PCs, if I want the font on both do I have to buy both formats ?

Thanks for any help, sorry for this being off topic but I couldn't see where else to post.

Yes, that's it, pretty much. Also, our download manager needs to know whether you're using Mac or Windows. The *contents* of the purchased file are the same.

  • Imported pdf _ fonts don't print correctly from CS3

When I place a pdf file in InDesign CS3 and I imageset it on an Agfa Selectset, some fonts get squished together. InDesign CS2 prints ok, though. How come?

    HI,
It is an open type font so should work, but it looks like the problem is that it hasn't installed correctly in Illustrator. I am using Windows 7 so right-clicked fonts and clicked install. Fonts appear in fonts area of control panel and install in disabled when font is viewed.  they work correctly in other apps, such as Word
When I vew the VistaSans fonts (in existing file) in Illustrator, they appear in the fonts drop-down, but have an asterisk beside them (i.e. not installed) so how do I get them to install correctly in Illustrator? Font isn't appearing in Photoshop either.

  • Fonts don't print with Font Book

    Hi,
Fonts I load in Font Book are looking fine on screen but they don't print - I have to put them directly in the Fonts folder (in the System folder) to do so. My printer is a Lexmark E120n is that matters.
What should I do to get them to print using Font Book?
    Thanks for your help!

It turns out the problem was with that certain printer. The floor model and other models and makes works fine. the Brother support person was an idiot, and would not think outside the box. Luckily the guys at Apple and Office Depot did.

  • Has anyone else had problems activating 'free' Open Type fonts using Font Book/Mavericks?

Lately I'm having trouble getting free fonts to activate in Font Book. Running 10.9.2. Anyone else experiencing the same issues?

    I’d suggest uninstalling:
    Blackberry software
    the cycling74 driver
Any HP “utilities” (regarding the HP IO. Apple told developers to stop using Startup Items back in 10.3.)
any Adobe software you have (the “not loaded” ones are not loading because they’re incompatible.
    the com.apple.CSConfig one.
    facebook
    google keystone agent
Unfortunately you have a lot of very questionable old, incompatible, and probably bad software on your Mac that is not playing well with Mavericks.  Some of these can be difficult to uninstall, particularly if you are not familiar with poking around in Mac system folders.
You might consider cutting to the chase and doing a clean install:
backup your documents and passwords, network settings, etc.
    Completely erase your hard drive
Reinstall mavericks and your apps from scratch (not from backups)
    and finally replacing your documents.
It can be a good thing. Spring cleaning. If you want to go this route, let me know, I can give you some more detailed suggestions for how to do it. The advantage is you can get Mavericks running really fast and reliably, and then be more selective about what you reinstall. A lot of the stuff you have on there is probably from apps you don't even use anymore (like for your Blackberry), or that really aren't necessary.

  • InDesign CC does not recognize some Open Type Fonts (OTF)

The fonts in question work in Illustrator CC and Photoshop CC. The fonts are activated using Font Agent Pro 6.204 on a MBP 17" 2.3 GHz Intel Core i7 16 GB ram running OSX 10.9.4. The fonts are available and used system wide, well except for inDesign CC. Thanks in advance for any help. d

Avenir and ITC Franklin Gothic are two that I'm working on now. Both of those fonts are used in two different files created with inDesign CS3.

  • Web fonts don't print in Firefox ESR 17.0.4

I am using Font Awesome on my website. It looks good on Firefox ESR 17.0.4, but when I try to print the page the characters look like generic Unicode symbols (the boxes with numbers and stuff in them).
Unfortunately, the place I work at is stuck on this version of Firefox so updating is not a solution for me.

Hmmm, strange. I tested in a new profile (no custom settings or extensions) and the official website previews just fine -- with respect to the custom font, at least. (Screenshot attached.)
Could you try Firefox's Safe Mode? That's a standard diagnostic tool to bypass interference by extensions (and some custom settings). More info: [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues using Safe Mode]].
You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using
Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
In the dialog, click "Start in Safe Mode" (''not'' Reset)
    Any difference?

When I open an eps file in illustrator 6, which I received from our graphic designer (who is using 5), the fonts don't work correctly. When I try to change text from VistaSansReg to VistaSansSCBold the bold doesn't apper in illustrator or when saving to PDF - however, when you click the changed text in illustrator, it does show the bold font has been selected.
