My QuickTime 7.6.6 stopped working

I've got Flip4Mac and whenever I played my .wmv movie files QuickTime 7 would open up and play them.  Now something has changed.  When I double click to open my .wmv movie files regular QuickTime opens and I can't fast-forward or anything like I used to in QuickTime 7.  I'm confused.  I also can't see my Registration number when I go to QuickTime 7/Registration.  It just sits there.  I've paid for QuickTime Pro as well as the Flip4Mac.  Anybody know what might have changed?  I want that old QT 7 back the way it was!  Thanks in advance!!  Merry Christmas!   - .02 cents worth

In the past, when I clicked to watch the movie, QuickTime Pro (QuickTime 7 app) would open automatically and everything worked fine.  Now, something has changed.  Even though it is coded to "Open with: WMV Player app", this doesn't happen.  What happens is that regular QuickTime opens and I do not have the controls that I used to have (fast forward, etc.).  I've got all these .wmv files that don't open with QuickTime 7.app the way that they used to.  Does that make any sense?
Yes.
As already indicated, it is the WMV Palayer that opens your files via the QT X Palyer which, if you read the Telestream web site, tells you cannot use the Flip4Mac WMV component directly. (Sounds like you upgraded the OS, installed/updated the Flip4Mac software, or accidentally changed the default opening app yourself since the software is working correctly for your current default setting.) If you want WMV files to open in the QT 7 Player directly/automatically by double-clicking the files then you have to physically change the default opening app using either the Finder "Info" window or the Right-Click (Control-Click) "Context"/Finder "Open With" menu. Just be sure to tell your system you want all WMV files to be opened with the QT 7 Player app.
As to having the ability to fast forward playback in locally played files, both apps should be able to this if you first wait for the WMV data to be partially decompressed/cached. Just remember that FF and RW work differently in QT X than they do in QT 7. If you are unwillng to wait for WMV data to be partially decompressed by the QT 7 Player, you can always use the "Save As..." option to save the partially decompressed data in a new MOV file container so it will not have to go through the preliminary decompression stage each time you open it in the QT 7 Player.

  • The new Quicktime made my iTunes stop working

When I downloaded the latest version of Quicktime to my computer, my iTunes wouldn't open anymore. It gives me the message "iTunes.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows. You will need to restart the program. An error log is being created." I've tried re-downloading Quicktime, deleting both off of the computer and downloading them again, downloading an older version of Quicktime with the latest iTunes, and downloading an older version of both, but nothing has worked. Can someone please help me?

I would recommend backing up your ipad to your computer and then restoring your ipad. This will just give it a fresh start and get any bugs out
Here is an example of how to restore.

  • Virtual Quicktime video buttons eventually stop working.

I noticed complaints with the keyboard controls but nothing about the black panel screen controls, which are my problem. For one thing, when launching a QT video ALL the previous movies i have played b4 that I have not trashed launch along with the latest one I open. Whether these are left open in the background or not, at some point these controls are useless and I have to force quit QT. I am thinking that the resources get corrupted somehow, but I don't know of a remedy. Anyone know the cause and remedy??? I do run a lot of stuff in the background Safari, Mail, Word ++and all apps launch previous windows opened b4 quitting. Thx very much!

click file>publish settings>swf and tick "permit debugging".  that will allow error messages to pinpoint the line numbers with the errors.
start with the first error and correct it.  then retest and proceed to the next error etc.

  • Deinterlacing stopped working

    Hi all
I have the newest Version of Quicktime Pro installed, 7.2
Since the pre-last update, quicktimes "deinterlacing" options have stopped working. I have several DV files I want to convert to another codec like H.264 or sorensen 3 and activating the "deinterlacing" option in the films visual settings before exporting has always resulting in Quicktime actually doing a deinterlaced version. But it doesn't anymore. I have tried different codecs, nothing.
Quicktime just doesn't deinterlace my videos anymore on export, no matter what I try.
Anyone have any suggestions? Thank you.

Export in MPEG Streamclip and use its great deinterlacer instead, it's free and does batches of files unattended as well.

  • Itunes stops working and I get an error message "APPCRASH" when I try to play a downloaded TV show. I have udated Itunes and removed and reinstalled quicktime.

When I try to play a downloaded TV show, itunes stops working and I get a error message "APPCRASH". I have updated itunes and removed and reinstalled quicktime.

Open your QuickTime control panel (either via the Control panels, or by going "Edit > Preferences > QuickTime Preferences" in the Quicktime Player). In the Advanced tab, uncheck Enable Direct3D video acceleration:
    ... and click OK.
Quit the QuickTime Player if you have it open. Restart the PC and try watching the videos in iTunes again. Do they play now?

We'd better check to see if some other application has stashed old versions of QuickTime componentry down in your system files.
So we'll go looking for the older QuickTime componentry in the most common locations for it to be stashed.
First we'll need to change some view settings.
In your Start menu, open Computer.
In your Organise menu, select Folder Options.
In the View tab, make sure that "Show hidden files and folders" is selected, and Hide extensions for known file types is unchecked.
    Click OK.
Now in Computer, open your C:\ drive (or whichever drive you have your operating system installed on).
    Open the "Windows" folder.
If you have a 32-bit version of Windows, open the "System32" folder.
If you have a 64-bit version of Windows, open the "SysWOW64" folder.
What files and folders can you see in there with QuickTime in the title? (In a standard installation of Quicktime you should be seeing precisely two files ... QuickTime.qts and QuickTimeVR.qtx ... and no QuickTime folders whatsoever.)

  • Ever since I installed Snow Leopard (10.6.8), masking in QuickTime 7Pro has stopped working.  Has anybody experienced this?  Is there a work around?  Can I use FCP to add masks to video?

Ever since I installed Snow Leopard (10.6.8) a month ago, the masking function in QuickTime 7Pro (v. 7.6.6) stopped working.  Masks disappeared in old videos where I had previously and successfully added a mask, and I could not longer use QT 7Pro to add a mask to a new video.  When I installed Snow Leopard I also installed QT X, but I found QT 7Pro in the Utilities folder, so it is still there but the masking function is definately not working.
    Has anybody else experienced this?
Is there a remedy so I can recover my older masked videos, and make new masked videos?
Can I make masked videos in Final Cut Pro?

  • ITunes has stopped working/Quicktime uninstall HKEY error!!

Ok so I just bought a brand new computer that is Windows Vista 64-bit. I installed iTunes and Quicktime the 64 bit version and everything was great until it stopped working. Data execution prevention will not let iTunes open. Here are the steps Ive taken in attempt to fix the problem.
    *Uninstalling Itunes AND Quicktime*
--iTunes was successful but Quicktime still left a folder in Program Files, and was still listed on the programs list in control panel. So I deleted the Program Files folder. Now when I try to uninstall Quicktime I get this error:
    Could not open key:
HKEYLOCALMACHINE32\software\classes\typelib\{B11F8D0B-BE5A-46E3-9485-EE692A8B2D3D}\1.0. Verify That you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support personnel.
I tried going into regedit and manually deleting the key. That didnt work!
I also used the free ware program Revo Unistaller, which deletes the associated registry files and everything associated with an install. I did this with Quicktime and now it no longer in the Programs section in control panel, but when I try to reinstall quicktime it still asks me to repair or remove. I've tried both steps and each time I get the same error as stated above.
What can I do to fix this?

Hey MrsBeth, it looks like your PC is on a network or something. I am uncomfortable giving advice since I don't know what's going on there.
What I am comfortable with is these directions below. Give yourself full control and ownership the the entire C: drive and all its subfolders. And temporarily turn off UAC for good measure - you can turn it back on after you've installed iTunes.
Let's cross our fingers that the install goes through!

  • Embedded quicktime on website viewing on iphone stopped working

I used Quicktime's "export for web" to embed videos to a mobile version of my website.  At first it didn't work until I got the full url path for each .mov file correct.  That was almost a year ago and it had been working fine.  A few weeks ago I noticed the links on iPhones were broken.  Instead of showing the poster image with the blue play button, it just showed a grey box the correct size and a broken play button.  However, the videos did work on desktop browesers still.  I contacted my hosting service and they said there's nothing they could do about it and it must be my phone provider.  Ok....not sure what that has to do with anything since wifi doesn't work with it either and I have unlimited data.  Trying to explain this to a service provider sounds like an exercise in futility.  I hadn't done anything to my service or that section of the site since I put it up in Nov2010.  I'm at a loss as to why it stopped working on iPhone.  I assume it doesn't work on iPad either, though I haven't been able to check.
I did find this "tip" when I use the debug console for iPhone:
    BYTE_RANGE_ERROR_MESSAGE
So, short story is, it worked for almost a year, picked the correct video file based on connection, 3g, wifi, desktop, but has since stopped working on iPhone - and perhaps all mobile devices.  Viewing the mobile site on a desktop computer plays the videos fine.
Anyone see any problems like this recently or have any suggestions?  I just don't understand why it stopped working all of sudden and not just my phone, but other people's phones as well.

Switching web hosting providers fixed this problem instantly.  I have no idea what my previous provider did to cause everything to grind to a halt, but it seems to work fine on all devices in my area.

  • "Quicktime has stopped working"

My problem began about two weeks ago when I tried to open iTunes, and it said "iTunes has stopped working." I uninstalled iTunes, and tried to reinstall it but there was an error with QuickTime. Now, when I try to open QuickTime it says "Quicktime has stopped working," and it will not let me uninstall it from my computer. I just want iTunes back, but I cannot have iTunes without QuickTime. =/

Okay. Let's proceed on the assumption that it is just a badly broken QuickTime, then.
Download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from Microsoft:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301
Now launch the Utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any QuickTime entries and click "Remove".
Quit out of CleanUp and reboot the PC.
Next we'll clear away the leftover program files and folders. (These are 64-bit system instructions, which differ a little from 32-bit system instructions.)
    Go "Start > Computer".
In Computer, open "Local Disk (C:)" or whichever drive your *program files* are stored on.
Open the "Program Files (x86) Folder".
Right-click on the QuickTime folder and select "Delete".
Go back into "Local Disk (C:)" or whichever drive your *operating system* is installed on.
    Open the "Windows" folder.
    Open the "sysWOW64" folder.
Right-click the QuickTime file and select "Delete".
Right-click the QuickTimeVR file and select "Delete".
Empty your Recycle Bin and restart the Computer.
Now try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly? If so, do iTunes and QuickTime launch properly now?

  • QuickTime Player has stopped working

On my Vista machine, I can not run Quicktime since I get the error "QuickTime Player has stopped working" so it basically crashes. If I run Quicktime from other user accounts it works fine. It also works fine if I run it "as administrator". I have uninstalled and reinstalled it with no success. I have also followed suggestions in this forum to erase some hidden quicktime related files with no success. Does anyone have any other ideas???

Many thanks. Best to print off a copy of these instructions, because at one stage of proceedings you won't be able to use a web browser.
    Preliminaries
Switch "Run as administrator" off in the QuickTimePlayer.exe compatibility tab.
Download and save a fresh copy of the QuickTimeInstaller.exe (installer file) from the following page. Get the option that doesn't mention iTunes. Don't run the install on line, and don't start the install just yet.
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/
Now quit all of iTunes, Safari and the MobileMe control panel if you have them installed and open. (They all use AAS, and may interfere with the uninstall if left open.)
    *Uninstall phase*
Head into your Uninstall a program control panel. Uninstall QuickTime. Uninstall Apple Application Support.
(From this point, none of iTunes, Safari or the MobileMe control panel will launch until we reinstall AAS, which should happen when we reinstall QuickTime.)
Next we'll remove any leftover program files and folders.
In "Computer" open "Local Disk C:" (or whichever drive you have your program files installed on).
    Open the "Program Files" folder.
Right-click on the "QuickTime" folder (if it still exists) and select "Delete".
    Open the "Common Files" folder.
    Open the "Apple" folder.
Right-click on the "Apple Application Support" folder (if it still exists) and select "Delete".
In "Computer" open "Local Disk C:" (or whichever drive you have your operating system installed on).
    Open the "Windows" folder.
    Open the "System32" folder.
Right-click on the "QuickTime" and "QuickTimeVR" files (if they still exist) and select "Delete".
    Empty your Recycle Bin.
(If you got any error messages on the uninstalls and/or deletions, let us know what they say. Precise text, please.)
    *Reinstall Phase*
Restart the PC. After the PC restarts do not open any applications. Disconnect from your network and/or the internet. Now switch off all your security software (firewall, antivirus, antispyware).
Now start the reinstall by doubleclicking the QuickTimeInstaller.exe file you downloaded earlier. (This should also reinstall Apple Application Support.)
Reenable all security software prior to reconnecting to your network and/or the internet.
... does QuickTime launch without the error this time? Or do we still have to do the "Run as administrator" thing?

  • Webcam stopped working on network after quicktime streaming server install.

    Hi,
The webcam of my 20" intel mac duo stopped working after I installed quicktime streaming server.
I've tried with amsn, skype and ichat and none of them shows anything, although the light is green.
I don't need the streaming server but can't find how to uninstall it.
I can use the cam in photobooth without any problems so it seems to be a network problem, which I think was caused by qss because I installed that recently.
I really hope someone can give me some troubleshooting directions for this cause I need the cam for meetings with clients (I have a small design company in the uk, but most of my clients are from holland).
If anyone can at least just show me some tips I'd be very very happy! =)

  • Quicktime player has stopped working in Vista after registering Pro key

I have installed QT player as part of the itunes QT package today and it appeared to work untill I registered it with my pro key which also enabled the additional function, but when i closed and restarted I get message "Quicktime player has stopped working...etc" and it never opens. I have repaired, reinstalled QT, reinstalled QT and itunes, all to no effect. I then restored to before QT and i tunes installation then reinstalled QT and itunes and it works again !, but only until I enter pro key and exit and restart. There is also an issue with the addin in internet explorer which also does not work, but generates a string of error messages when i try to play movies. Oddly enough, if I run QT as administrator it works, and if it seems the QT browser addin works in Firefox (when run off memory stick)
I'm completly confused and frustrated; anyone any ideas please, I'm running Vista SP1 on Dell XPS420 Quad core 2.4 Gig 4MB RAM

Have looked in this a little further and the problem may not be todo with the Pro registration as having restored to a point before QT installation several times I now find that when reinstalled QT works the first time you run it but once closed it will not reopen. However if I run as administrator it runs OK, also if i turn off User Account Control it works OK; this true for the Internet Explorer addin as well as QT player and even the picture viewer. The picture viewer actually reports an error "Quicktime has failed to intialize Error # - 2095". One final observation is that the QT addin works OK without user account control switched off in Firefox 3 b5.
Something is amiss I suspect with permissions/security and i would rather not operate with User Account Control off.
Much appreciate anyones advise on this it is driving me mad
