My Quicktime disappeared! MAC OS 10.6.8

I don't know when, or how, but Quicktime is no where to be seen on my iMac! If I try and open a .wmv something trys to load but then it quickly closes the app it's trying to use. Because mac's are so fast, I can't even see the icon. Anyway, I tried looking under preferences and nothing appears to be there. It appears in the search, but nothing happens when I click on it, ***? I bought the full version a while back, it's very unlike Apple to produce such crap.
Anyone have this problem?
I need it because I can't work out how to God **** export a movie clip from God **** iMovie because I need to upload it to the God **** Youtube which restricts to a God **** 15min intervals! ****!

I don't know when, or how, but Quicktime is no where to be seen on my iMac!
QT is a structure embedded in the operating system. It cannot be seen. On the other gand, QT Player X and QT Player 7 are apps that act as a graphic user interface to access the actual QT structure. These apps can easily be moved or deleted. The normal thing to do here is to perform a search to see if the app in question was accidentally moved to a different location. (The QT X Player is supposed to be in the "Applications" folder and the QT 7 Player is supposed to be in your "Applications/Utilities" folder if installed on your system. If either app has been deleted, you will have to re-install it. (QT X app is on the optical disc that came with your system and QT 7 app is avalable HERE.)
If I try and open a .wmv something trys to load but then it quickly closes the app it's trying to use.
Check the default "Open with" setting for your WMV files. It should be set for the WMV Player which in turn displays the content in the QT X Player since the WMV component cannot be used directly by the QT X Player app. Since this workflow still requires access to the QT player app, fix the QT main player problem first. (See the Flip4Mac web site to see what what features are available with the different QT Player apps.)
Anyway, I tried looking under preferences and nothing appears to be there. It appears in the search, but nothing happens when I click on it, ***?
Have no idea what you are looking for or where. QT X has no preferences, QT 7 preferences are accessed from within the QT 7 app, and the WMV preference panel in in the System Preferences window.
I bought the full version a while back, it's very unlike Apple to produce such crap.
I assume you are referring to QT v7.6.6 Pro here. Is/has this special Snow Leopard/Lion version ever been installed on your system? (I e., only QT 7 can be upgraded for "Pro" use.) Are you saying you just upgraded to Snow Leopard or have been using it before the QT app disappeared? If new to Snow Leopard, have you read the QT 7 installation/Pro ugrade instructions HERE?
Anyone have this problem?
I don't.

  • Camera Raw disappeared Mac OS 10.6.8 CS5 Extended v12.0

Camera Raw disappeared Mac OS 10.6.8 CS5 Extended v12.0. So has my Microtek Scanner (crashes). I've been told that upgrading to OS 10.6.8 caused corruption to the drivers. But both worked for long time with 10.6.8.
I had Camera Raw but haven't used it for long time. Now it is just not there. I reinstalled it and today, installed the patch. But still no Camera Raw. Any ideas? Thanks.

Where are you trying to look for Camera Raw? From inside of Photoshop? If so, you won't "find it" because Camera Raw is called on when you open a raw digital capture.
Try opening Bridge and navigate to a folder with digital images, then open the image from Bridge, it should launch Camera Raw. If it doesn't either you are not opening a raw image or Camera Raw is not installed.
Camera Raw can also open flat TIFFs and JPEGs, you can use the Bridge command Open in Camera Raw under the Fie menu...

Do I need to download Yosemite?

Mac OS X 10.6 includes QuickTime versions 10.0 and 7.6.3. The QuickTime 7 player will only be present if a QuickTime Pro key was present at the time of installation, or if specified as part of a custom install, or individually downloaded:

Snow Leopard update 10.6.4 included an update to 7.6.6 (if installed). You can install it from the above link  even though it says for 10.6.3. It's the same version of QuickTime Player 7.6.6.
(Only QuickTime Player 7.6.3 or 7.6.6 can be updated to "Pro".)
A Mac OS X v10.6, OS X Lion, and OS X Mountain Lion-compatible version of QuickTime Player 7 is available for use with older media or with AppleScript-based workflows. QuickTime Player 7 can be used to playback formats such as QTVR, interactive QuickTime Movies, and MIDI files. Also, it supports QuickTime 7 Pro registration codes for access to QuickTime Pro functionality.

  • Can no longer playing my own podcasts with QuickTime on Mac.

When checking my latest Garage Band podcast, I got ? in Q with message to download latest QuickTime. I did that but still get ? in Q. I can play my podcasts on PC with QuickTime in Windows XP, but not on my Mac. My 2GHz Macbook is new and has no additional software to interfere. It will, however, play some other podcasts from iTunes, though only some. My podcast address is http://web.mac.com/daveyesitsme
    David Powell
Macbook   Mac OS X (10.4.9)   2 GHz Intel Core2 Duo

No more ? in Q. Roger, thanks for confirming that the problem was not my Garage Band podcasts. After further, failed investigations with settings, I downloaded Firefox browser, as suggested by a previous post. Using Firefox my podcasts open perfectly with QuickTime 7.1.6. Why not in Safari? - beats me. Glad you checked.
    David Powell
Your podcasts play OK on my G4 iMac with 10.3.9. and
QT 7.0.4. I believe the latest version of QT has been
causing problems (not for the first time), so I have
avoided it: but anyway the problem is local to your
Mac, the podcasts are fine. You could try asking in
    the QuickTime forum.

    It'll playback fine.

  • Registration Key Invalid - Quicktime for MAC

I purchased Quicktime Pro for Windows sometime ago and I'm now trying to unlock the Pro features on a MacBook Pro within OS X and I'm getting an "invalid registration" message when using the Pro Key for Windows. Do I need a separate unique key for Quicktime Pro for MAC?

That way it's always been, different keys for different platforms.
I can't think of any software developer that provide you keys for both platforms. For example; photoshop.

  • QuickTime install mac os x 10.6.7

Why can I not install the new version of QuickTime? I get an error message saying my Mac already has "QuickTime X" so it won't install QuickTime 7. I like how I'm not allowed to say "h*ll" or "d*mn."

  • Moving 10GB Quicktimes from Mac to Windows.

Any suggestions on how to move very large Quicktimes between non-networked Macs and Windows 7 PCs? Is the file limit still 4GB for FAT32 disks?

Is the file limit still 4GB for FAT32 disks?
    I'm afraid so, Navarro.
It would involve shelling out some cash ... but if you're generally moving from one Windows 7 PC to a group of Macs, then installing MacDrive on the PC might be one way around the problems:
    http://www.mediafour.com/products/macdrive/
(Then you'd be able to move the files about on a Mac-formatted externalHD to and from the Windows box.)
Other folks with more experience in that sort of thing: please feel free to leap in with alternative suggestions for Navarro.

  • Watching Apple's Keynotes with QuickTime on Macs

Like many, I have experienced problems watching Apple's keynotes on my Mac. Depending on how I configure the transport, I either get a "Bad address" right away, or "Live Broadcast - paused", or QT switches transports then reports "Bad address", or it just tries to load forever. This seems to have nothing to do with the network, because my Significant Other's Mac is on the same network and plays the keynotes without any problem. The Significant Difference seems to be, my SO rarely installs third-party software -- she even has to be "reminded" to update. On a hunch I uninstalled DivX on my Mac, and now the keynotes play. Uninstalling DivX is not simply a matter of "trashing" the applications. Use the shareware application Pacifist to list the contents of /Library/Receipts/DivX for Mac Installer.pkg and delete all the stuff that DivX installed. To be clean about the whole thing, delete the .pkg thereafter.
If you didn't install DivX and have the problem nevertheless, try to recall which "foreign" plug-ins you did install into QuickTime. That's almost sure to be the problem. Use Pacifist to help you to remove them.

I've also been having this problem - all other Quicktime content plays but not the keynotes.
The only third party Quicktime related things I have installed are Perian, AC3MovieImport.component (not sure where this came from), Flip4Mac and an EyeTV MPEG Support Component.
Could any of these be the problem? The only one with an associated .pkg is Flip4Mac.

  • Quicktime in mac book and imac

when i try and open a video clip with my mac book it opens as a text file but when i try and open it with the imac it opens and plays the file..what am i doing wrong with the mac book when trying to open these files.... is there a setting i haven't done correctly or what... we recently switched from pc and laptop to mac and both macs were purchased within the past month... thanks in advance for any help

Does the video work if you first launch QuickTime Player and then select the video though Player's Open command?
If it does, then you just need to associate that type of file with QuickTime Player. Locate the video in Finder, click in it once to highlight it, then select Get Info from the File menu. Look in the window that will open for a section titled "Open with:". In that section you'll see a pulldown menu that probably now says "Text Edit" or something other than QuickTime Player. Click on the menu, select QuickTime Player, and click the "Change All..." button. That should do the trick.
If you can't open the video even when using the Open command in QuickTime Player, post back with details about the video (at least the file name extension - .mov, .wmv, or whatever) and we'll take it from there.
    Regards.

  • No audio when uploading a screen recording via quicktime on mac to youtube.

I've used screen recorder via quicktime for upload to youtube it has both visual and audio when I've viewed it but after uploading to youtube the audio is missing. I'm new to mac so a complete novice. Any help would be highly appreciated. Thanks.

    Hi
This is a bit unclear to me.
    No audio when recording
No Video-editing program I know off play any feedback (at standard settings) while recording. FinalCut is even worse that it doesn't play the sound while importing from Camera either (one need to connect speakers to the Camera-audio-out to get this)
So first - I'm not sure if You can get audio out while recording in iMovie at all.
    BUT
If there is no sound - When Your captured video is played back - then the problem is more severe and I would start with.
    • Trashing iMovie pref and cache files
    and see if that helps.
Please - be more descriptive - so that one can do the same actions to see if Your problem is Yours only or if it is the same on more Macs.
    Yours Bengt W

  • Quicktime video Mac

I'm using Flash MX 2004 for Mac.
Just wanted to know if it is still possible to export
"Quicktime video" with the latest version ?
And is this a feature that will always be available?

I can confirm that it is available in Flash 8
    Professional...."always be available"?...nothing is forever...guess
you could write the Flash Team and ask if it will be available in
Flash 9, but i don't know if they'd even be able to answer that.
    Cheers!

  • Quicktime Win-Mac Crossgrade?

I recently upgraded to Quicktime 7 Pro and since then have just purchased my first Mac, a Macbook Pro. It will be delivered on Monday, I hope I've made the right decision! :o)
I would like to know how to 'crossgrade' my Windows Quicktime Pro software so as to have Quicktime Pro on my Mac. Can anyone help? Thank you.

A simple process. Buy the QT Pro upgrade for Windows and put the key in the right fields. Same as the process for installing Office for mac on a windows machine, you buy the software for the right platform. Good luck.
