My quicktime movies dont play well on other computers

hi ,i have been making some quicktime films ,using the mpeg streamclip program,i use the codec h.264 ,the size is 1024 by 576 unlimited data rate,
they are quicktime files from fcp.
they look great on my computer g5 dual2.7 ,1.5gb of ram.
but on other computers they playback jerky,jumpy,usually laptops
what do i need to do,its really embarrassing as they are usually the client,who expects it just to work.
any help i really appreciate.

More than likely your clients aren't all running the recommended minimum Mac G5 dual 2.0MHZ or Windows 3.0 Intel Pentium D platform required for "unlimited" data rate playback of H.264 HD content. Try limiting your video data rate to something in the 4.0-8.0 Mbps range (2.0-4.0 Mbps for even older, slower machines) and see if clients get smooth playback.

I am not sure if anyone else is having this problem, but when i stream a quicktime video it seems as though the whole video does not play. It appears the playing of the video speeds up and cuts off at the end but this is not the end of the video. Hope this explaination is good enough. Can anyone help? Thanks

I think this started since QT 7.0.3 came out if im not mistaken. I may go back to 7.0.2. Not sure if this will fix the problem and maybe cause another problem with itunes 6. Anyone have any info on this. thanks

When I try to play a mpg clip, it plays about 5 seconds and stops. What am I doing wrong?
The file may have breaks in the timecode. Try playing the file in MEPEG Streamclip. If it loads/plays, try "Command-F" to "fix" the breaks. You can then use the "Save as..." option to save the file or one of the export options to save the file in a "fully" compatible QT compression format.

It should be in the Users/ Shared folder.
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Note the option to check and repair Library Permissions

How do get a QuickTime movie to play?

I have a QuickTime movie on one of my web pages. It is located here: http://www.bagsnaggers.com/ourhistory.html
It seems to play fine on Macs, which I use and where I created it, but I have been looking at some Windows computers and it doesn't seem to play. I can get other QuickTime movies to play on them, so I know QuickTime is installed; other movies seem to open automatically and start to play. But on Windows machines, when I click my movie nothing happens. There's a little icon in the corner, but right-clicking, option-clicking, etc. does nothing. I have asked friends with Windows and QuickTime to see if they can play it, but no luck. Can anyone tell me how I should put the movie up on my page so that people who have Windows with QuickTime can play it? Many thanks for help.

If you encode the video for Flash, the most common format used on YouTube, then people will be able to view the video as long as they have Flash Player installed. Without Flash, they can't see YouTube videos, so there's still something that some people may have to install. More and more videos, particularly those intended for playback on iPhones, are using h.264, so you may just want to tell people that they need QuickTime 7 to play your videos. Your choice, of course.

How can I get a Quicktime movie to play over a background slideshow?

I created a slideshow in PowerPoint 2003 a few years ago and would like to update it using Keynote '09. PowerPoint had a "play once" and a "Play in foreground" option that let the movie play in the same spot continuously until the last of the 21 slides are displayed. The slides were timed with background graphics and lyrics that matched the song being sung in the Quicktime movie.
It's a song my daughter wrote and performed and it's something I think could be vastly improved using Keynote's amazing transitions, etc.
When I tried simply importing the presentation from PowerPoint, the video will start to play but when the second slide is displayed, the video is no longer visible. I tried to set Keynote to play it on all slides, but that just restarts the audio to a "row row your boat" round kind of thing. The video doesn't play on the remaining slides.
Is there a way to make this happen?

That's a shame. It takes some tweaking, but PowerPoint can do this. I know it's not something that is needed all the time, but it's something I've needed on a few occasions. I wonder how well the timing would work out if I broke the video up into sub clips and simply assigned a clip to each slide? It's a lot more work and I suspect I'll pick up some clips and pops during the slide changes.
Keynote is still far better at what it does than PowerPoint, but do I ever wish it could do this so I could really show it off to people.

Getting Quicktime movies to play on iPhone

I have been updating my web site, moving it from GoLive over
to Dreamweaver and doing a revamp (you can see it at
Whale of a Tale Productions)
but I am having issues getting my Quicktime Video to play on my
iPhone. I get the play button as I should, but when I try to play
any of my videos I get an error message, and I know these movies
are correctly formatted to play on the iPhone as I can get them to
sync and they play back perfectly, just when I try to get them from
the web site, that they break.
I am currently using Brendan Dawes Quicktime 4.1 COntroller
version 1.0.1 to embed my Quicktime movies. Do I need to add an
extra tag to get them to work on my iPhone?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Here is the code I am
using to embed my movie in Dreamweaver.

IMac quicktime movies [HD] play audio only on PC (video is green)

We have an iMac w/two 500 GB external drives for video storage and a 1 TB TimeCapsule. The iMac recently stopped running and failed to boot; after opening and reseating the memory, it is back up and running, but fails to recognize either external drive. In a panic, we copied all the quicktime movies (all our kids baby movies) from the TimeCapsule backups to a separate PC for backup.
On the PC, the movies play and we hear the audio, but the video is just green. The same movie plays fine on the iMac, even when playing from the PC hard drive.

With some googlefu I have found the problem, which lies in the icod or Apple Intermediate Codec which was used to encode the movies when they were imported from my HD camcorder.
Unfortunately, Apple saw fit to use a proprietary codec on my personal files, limiting their use elsewhere, without any obvious notification before the files were removed from the source device to make space for new movies. Now I have 550 GB of quicktime movie files readable only with a Mac-based product.

well not much good as a camcorder:
wont play HD video on other computers even if codecs are downloaded
wont play sound ANYWHERE (sound is there if i put in Windows moviemaker, but no picture)
Movie maker software errors out when tryin to load videos
Uploaded new firmware, no resolution to issues
Also, if i change the name of a file in windows it no longer shows up on the vado or vado software
Ideas anyone?

Q On my new Vista machine, I decided just to install K-lite codec pack (Standard edition). This installs ffdshow and a nice media player.
When my codecs get messed up by some other video product installation, i just reinstall it. Works well so far.

Final Cut/quicktime dont play sound while other programs do

My video camera records MPGs onto its hard drive. I put these MPGs on a Mac and the videos are fine, but there is no sound when i play the videos in quicktime or final cut pro.
If i play the MPGs in VLC, both the video and sound work on the Mac. When i play the MPGs on a PC, the sound/video work in every program.
I had this problem once before, and someone nearby (i was in a computer lab) fixed the problem for me by clicking or unclicking some option.
Please help - I want to edit the footage, but its hard without sound- thanks!

the audio and video are "muxed" in these MPG's, Final Cut Pro does not work natively with this format.
you need to "demux" the files and/or preferably, transcode to a more edit compliant codec.
try the free MPEG Streamclip application which can do any of this for you

Getting avi, mpeg and quicktime movies to play in front row

Having located the movies folder - I have created alias's for my movie folders on my external hard drive. However some of the these movies play perfectly well and some do not.
Also when I drag an mpeg movie into the folder to play in Front row - the sound comes through fine but without any picture.
Any help would be appreciated.

It is all about the codecs used in within the movie files, quite often even though files are named .avi or .mpg they are not of the same format as the codecs used to rip the files are different.
Alas there are hundreds of variations so therefore your best bet is to get add ons like Perian or Flip4Mac which add various codecs to Quicktime.

Quicktime.mov not playing back from website

iWeb 3.0.4
I downloaded three .MOV to my site. One is playing back ok, the other two are only displaying the QuickTime symbol. I did empty the browser cache, but to no avail. Did check with server and the .MOV files are in the html folder, but not playing back. I also re-uploaded the questionable .MOV files, but it still does not let me open the files on my site. site name : bodoholst.com

All three movies play OK for me.
The pages are slow to load as this method of adding them to the pages requires the movie file to download with the web page.
If you are happy to depend on viewers having the QuickTime plugin, this is a better way...

IWeb-published QuickTime movies not playing in Chrome

I've built a site that includes movies exported from iMovie (.m4v files). They play just fine on my Mac in Safari and Firefox, but in Chrome the movie area is blank other than a large Quicktime logo. By watching network traffic it appears that the entire movie is being downloaded, which is not how the other browsers behave. Since the movies are over a gigabyte this isn't going to work.
However, if I open the movie file directly from its location in the published Media folder, Chrome begins playing it nearly at once, and appears to not be using the QT player.
Any ideas how I can convince iWeb to produce something that will please Chrome? Thanks!

Unfortunately this is not the only problem that Chrome has with iWeb 11 generated content. iWeb 11 makes sure that the CSS is compatible even with IE 8. Chrome does not support all the CSS 3 tags that Firefox and Safari support and as such will require a separate CSS sheet. At present iWeb does not generate one for Chrome and unfortunately there is not easy way to fix this. You can manually edit the generated code and change it so that it uses the same sheet for IE and Chrome. That should solve your problem. In my case I just gave up on Chrome. But there might be some other solution that I don't know about … good luck.

i am editing a animation movie on fcp. the animation is being done on 'maya', where they export it as 'avi' files. then they open these avi's in premier and export it as .mov and upload it. (the animation company is located in another city. when i edit these movies in fcp, it doesn't play properly at the cut points. what is wrong? please, can someone help?

What are the properties of that .mov?
