My Ram suddenly not recognised ?

Hi,
I just did a MP2v encode session, I noticed my Intel Macpro 3ghz was having trouble with background programs while this encode was happening.
so i waited till it finished and on checking my extra 4gig of ram does not show in sys profiler. I shutdown, pulled the lower riser with the 4 gig extra and re sested the ram and re inserted into Macpro, booted and still no show, only the basic 2 x 1gig sticks in top riser.
The whole 6 gigs used to show up.?
any ideas guys.
specs-
Macpro 3.0ghz Early 08 10.5.7 FCP 6.0.6, 6gig Ram
Cheers

Hi Tom,
Ok, you've reseated the RAM, but have reseated them in different slots?
After doing that you might try this (in one or more of it's forms):
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1806
Lastly, if it's still under Applecare, give Apple a call. There should be no trouble at all getting new RAM.
Good Luck.
Edit: And here's a PDF I linked to earlier tonight in another topic. Talks about and shows the memory configs pretty plainly:

Welcome to the HP Community Forum.
This issue is frequently caused by a driver malfunction although the problem could be just about anything.
    You didn't provide any information.
The good news:  You can still help yourself and there is lots of help available, including -- in many cases -- the printer software for your computer so you can reinstall and be on your way again.

  • Iphone 4 suddenly not recognised by windows 7 (32 bit)

I regularly synced my iPhone 4 with my PC without hitch.  Now, all of a sudden, Windows doesn't even recognise the phone so trying to sync via iTunes is impossible.  I've reinstalled iTunes but still get 'USB device not recognised'.  I've even tried connecting with the firewall turned off.  The PC and phone also don't seem to be be able to see each other via Bluetooth.  I'm using iTunes 10.4.1.10.
Can anyone tell me what's going on here?
Any help would be much appreciated!

I have the same problem and I tried all of this and it still doesn't work. Do u have any other suggestions to resolve the problem. 2-3 weeks ago this problem didn't exist. Thank u!

  • External monitor suddenly not recognised

    Hi everyone,
Not sure if anyone can help me, but thought I'd try here before progressing any further. I have an 11-inch 2010 Macbook Air with an external monitor set up (Acer LCD, if it makes a difference) through a mini-display port to HDMI converter. Up until yesterday it was working with no problems, the HDMI does sound as well as video and it was very easy to set up and use.
Yesterday I tried plugging in the converter to the Air and turned the display on and I got a "Cable not connected" message on the display. I checked the plugs and restarted my Mac, but the same message came up.
The Air's screen flashes blue when the display is turned on, so the cables must be working to some extent (at least enough to recognise the display has been turned on). But the display system prefs and menu doesn't show it connected, and there's no option to turn mirroring on or anything, as there usually is.
Unfortunately I don't have any other HDMI cables or a converter to test this, but I was wondering if I can try anything else on my Mac before tracking some down. Would appreciate any help.

My Macbook Pro ran out of hard disk space, and suddenly stopped recognising my external hard drive
Hi, and welcome to the forums.
It's very unlikely these two things are related, even though they apparently happened about the same time.
As you probably know, OSX likes at least 10% of it's drive free, 15% is better, 20% optimum (although I suspect that on very large drives, you don't need quite as much free space, percentagewise).
As dechamp says, the best way to be sure the drive is dead is if another computer doesn't recognize it either. In theory, something like DiskWarrior might be able to deal with it, but it's pretty unlikely to be worth the money (about $100 for DW) if you don't already have one.

  • RAM upgrade not recognised

    Dear All,
I recently embarked upon upgrading by aging iBoook G4 with built in 256 RAM.
I followed crucial's advice re compatibility and alas on fitting the chip it does not recognise the
    SDRAM module!
According to the manual the memory slot can accept the follow spec module:
    DDR SO-DIMM
    1.25 inch or smaller
    128 256 512 MB or 1 GB
    200 pin
    PC2100 DDR 266 Type RAM
Crucial supplied me with a faster version PC2700 which they say should be compatible. Is there a way of making my iBook recognise this module? It appears not to have happened automatically. Should I send it back?
What to do?!? Stuck on OS X 10.3.9 ain't much fun!
    Yours frustrated,
    HR

    It is recognised!
Either wasn't pushing it home far enough or resetting P-RAM helped?
    Cheers.

  • Colour cartridges suddenly not recognised

From time to time my printer decides it will not recognise the colour cartridge any longer.  I use 75xl.  This is despite the cartridge having worked perfectly up until that point, and definitely not being empty.  I take it out & put it back in and the messages alternate between the cartridge being incompatible, or missing.  When this has occurred previously I have put in a new cartridge and it's resumed working.  I then put the old cartridge it previously woulrn't recognise back in & away it goes until the next time.  It's just happened again, after successfully printing a couple of pages.  I put my spare cartridge in and it wont recognise that either now.  As there is a missing cartridge it wont print at all.  not even in black & white.  I've really had it with this printer, and the lack of support from HP.  My printer is out of warranty, but still printing/scanning/ photocopying just fine .. when it will recognise the colour cartrigde.  any ideas??  Or should i just go & buy another brand printer?

    Hi Anthea White,
I'm sorry you are having issues with the print recognizing colour cartridges.   There is actually circuitry between the ink cartridges and the circuitry in the printer.  I'm attaching a document that describes how to clean these electrical contacts.  Sometimes ink or dust prevents a connection from being made.
I hope this will help you!

  • Perplexing problem with iMac suddenly not recognising iWire access

I have a 24" iMac which has been running the most uptodate OSX Leopard software (I also have a PowerBook running the same, which is relevant).
Two days ago, my iWire connection to my broadband suddenly stopped. That is, when I opened up my iMac and it started searching for my iWire network, it found it, but then continually asks me for my WEP password, which I enter, then it says there a connection timeout and it will not connect to it.
Now, I know the Airport network is working fine, and the password hasn't changed, because I still get a perfect connection to my broadband via my Powerbook.
So, I've since tried a clean system install, and whenever the iMac searches for a computer link, it asks for a WEP password which I put in - accurately - and it no longer recognises it, even though I'd done nothing the change the settings. The only clue I have is that, during a software update, I do recall a firmware update for iWire, which I think I accepted. Has that caused it? But if so, why does it not affect my other PowerMac.
Am absolutely flummoxed and perplexed. Is this a firmware problem, in which case, how do I solve it?

    Hey Bushey,
I see that you had an issue with your aiport express not working, try this out:
Firstly, there are some issues with the airport utility for Leopard and AX.
you might want to try this:
    1) update the firmware of the AX to the latest by downloading the firmware update from the link below:
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/airportexpressfirmwareupdate63formacosx.h tml
    2) IF it still persists, Using the Airport Admin Utility for Graphite and Snow will sucessfully resolve the issue.

  • SR12 camera suddenly not recognised

Hi there. I have been capturing footage into FCP from my Sony SR12 without any problems....until today. It seems like FCP doesn't recognise that the camera is plugged in and connected. The camera is showing up on the mac and i can see that the files are there.
When I am pressing USB connect (hard drive) on the Sony it seems to connect ok
When I click "log & transfer" the L & C window opens but the footage doesn't populate. No thumbnails or anything show in the L&C window.
Previously its just automatically showed the files as soon as I open the L&C window.
Anybody have any suggestions for what I have done wrong?
I have been editing a different SD project in between, does the fact I have edited a project with different project audio/visual settings muck things up when then trying to capture AVCHD footage into a previous saved project. Can't think it would as FCP should let you capture different source media into same timeline.
    Cheers

Sorry I obviously confused you. I am not trying to work with my AVCHD footage in a Pal seq, it was just an example asking if it is critical to be working in a Pro Res project for the L&T to connect properly or is the seq you are in not important. I am trying to think of what has changed since my AVCHD stuff was working fine. The only thing I have done since is work on another project in FCP that was a SD pal project. I was just thinking that when I changed my project settings to work on the SD Pal job, the settings then have to be changed to work back on my AVCHD project ?

  • FireWire suddenly not recognising device?

I have searched high and low for an answer to this and now I'm just plain tired, so I hope someone here can help me in a hurry.
I have a Sony DCR-HC15E Camcorder which used to transfer fine in iDVD and burn DVDs for me with no problem at all. Suddenly it no longer does it. I am at a loss as to what to do to fix this problem.
I am connecting using a FireWire cable but the device is not showing up in "about this Mac".
The Sony website only provides information and downloads for Windows users.
I am desperate for any help someone might be able to give me as I need to download and post a DVD of my young son for an overseas medical assessment ASAP!
Thank you in advance for any help.

    Hi.
Is the Camcorder in VCR mode?
Does iMovie recognize the Camcorder? If so, then quit iDVD and move this file to the Desktop:
    User/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iDVD.plist
    and try again with iDVD.
Do other peripherals mount through the Firewire port? If so, try another FireWire cable.
If none of the above works, just do an SMC reset.
    Good Luck.

  • Aperture suddenly not recognised by system screensaver

All of a sudden, I can access Aperture through my regular screen saver...... any clues as to how to reinstate it?

    Welcome to the forums guys!
The sharing of previews with iLife/Screen saver seems to be an issue at the moment. Some of my libraries it works, others it does not. A couple of suggestions that have been floated are to regenerate all of your previews, create a new library and import your old one into it. There are also suggestions about deleting a specific file which works for some and not for others.

  • Portege R700 Finger Print Reader suddenly not recognised from OS

    Hello,
I have been searching for a solution
My R700 on Win7 was working flawlessly using the finger print scanner. At some point without any reason the
hardware (finger print reader to login) was not recognized by the OS anymore.
    - I tried to remove the driver software, reinstalled it
    - updated it and so on resulting that the hardware was not found.
    - I even removed all relevant entries from the registry - no go.
    - the Authentic Finger Print software starts up, but only giving an error that the FP-reader is not present.
Is there a way to remove the stored fingerprint manually by deleting the manually.
The hardware is working according to the support. (Machine was send in)
However I do not wish to re-setup the entire machine (it is a business notebook) just to get this to work?
Any hints or step by step intro to achieve this?
I could not find a descritpion on how to remove fingerprints (cause I suspect that is the problem) manually since the software to do this does not start up.
    Any input would be appreciated.
    Best regards
    julian

If you don't see the fingerprint hardware or unresolved devices in Device Manager then the device is either disabled in the BIOS or the fingerprint sensor is faulty or loose, or there was a liquid spill causing corrosion.

  • Firewire suddenly not recognised

Have been using my nano with the firewire cable it came with since january. Used a friend's USB with the nano yesterday and not when I plug it in with the firewire it says "firewire connections are not supported. To transfer songs, connect the USB cable provided." Help!

Have been using my nano with the firewire cable it came with since january
Then you have the only Nano that came with a Firewire cable and the only Nano in the world that can use Firewire.
    When did that change?
It changed when they made the very first Nano.
The Nano cannot and has never been able to use Firewire.
    I've always used it before...
    Not to sync you didn't.

  • PC suddenly not recognising Xperia Go

My phone (Xperia Go) would connect to the PC just fine and I could browse files and edit where necessary, but recently I'm having huge problems when connecting. The device drivers have not installed successfully upon connection (even though they used to be fine) and I have reinstalled PC companion and restarted my PC. I've also used various USB ports and have tried both MTP and MSC mode. Neither PC companion nor Media Go detect my phone. I've searched for the drivers on the Sony Mobile site, but cannot find for Xperia Go.
    Please help!

Uliwooly's option is quite likely correct, however before going down that path please try this:
To solve the issue, open Device Manager on your computer to reinstall the driver for your device while your device is connected with your PC via a USB cable.
Microsoft Windows Vista and 7 users
To open Device manager on your computer
    Click on the Start button.
In the Search box, type device manager, and then press enter. You should see something similar to the below example.
    Microsoft Windows 8 users
    Method 1
To open Device manager on your computer
Click Windows Key + X to open the Start Menu.
Select Device Manager from the Start Menu.
    Method 2
To open Device manager on your computer
Click the Desktop Tile to open the Desktop.
Click >> at the bottom right of the taskbar.
Select Control Panel from the Menu.
Select Device Manager from the list of control panel items.
Note: If you do not see the screen with the Device Manager option, click the View by drop-down menu and select Small icons.
Microsoft Windows XP and 2000 users
To open Device manager on your computer
On the desktop, right-click on My Computer and click Properties.
In the System Properties window, click the Hardware tab.
In the Hardware, tab click the Device Manager button.
To reinstall the drivers for your device
Scroll down to the Universal Serial Bus controllers (USB section) of the Device Manager window.
Look for an MTP Device: Media Device, Unknown Device or any other reference to your phone. Click on this entry and choose "Uninstall" whilst leaving the device connected.
Wait a few minutes, and the computer will reinstall the drivers for the device.
Now, the phone is accessible via Computer/My Computer on your computer.

Make sure the iPod touch is connected straight into the computer, not into a hub. Also, make sure there aren't any other iPods connected while you're testing it.
