My rant with the BT Infinity installation process.
So I began the order with BT Infinity with the given date installation date of 4th October 2012, having holiday
plans I rescheduled this to Friday 19th October 2012.
Whilst on holiday I am sent the BT Homehub 3 with no one at home so this was left at the post office for me to pick
up on return, fair enough.
However the engineer decides to turn up at my property on the 4th, I'm assuming to finalise the install, however
already noted on their system the scheduled appointment date was revised for 19th October. Why did the engineer
decide to turn up with no at home?
I'm left with a yellow post card asking to call BT back to reschedule an appointment.
Thursday 18th October I'm emailed the 'About your engineer visit' with times and things to do, having seen this
email I assume things are good and on track.
I sit around and wait from 1-6pm with no sign of the engineer, so I decided to call BT at 5:15pm to find out if
anyone would be turning up.
After a good 20 minute wait in the queue to get through to someone, they BT represenative said they called BT
Openreach and that I would have to wait another 45 minutes as the slot is not up yet, and that he promised to give
me a call back as soon as 6pm hits, suprise, suprise no one turns up and no one calls to tell me what's happening,
it is now 6pm.
Now the queue to get through to BT is between 20-30 minutes long as stated by the auto machine, I leave my mobile number for someone to call me back which someone does just before 8pm.
Having a long discussion with the BT rep I had been informed that 'NO ENGINEER WAS ASSIGNED' for my appointment, this is an unacceptable excuse as I had all the email notifications that someone would be turning up for the install.
He said the next available appointment would be Wednesday 24th 8am-1pm, which I've agreed to, however the online tracking system still says 19th October with no evidence that it has been rescheduled to the new date.
How can BT not assign someone, make me wait around for a good whole day and not even give me the courtesy call to tell me that no one would be turning up?
How am I guaranteed that the next appointment given an engineer will be assigned?
What are the compenstations for me taking time off work?
As you can tell I'm not happy with BT and with the way they work.
Finally managed to get BT installed this morning and ran a speed test.
Getting 53mb dl, 8mb up.
I should be getting 18mb up but only getting 8mb, do I have to wait 10 days for everything to stablise or can I call through to raise a fault?
I'm directly connected via ethernet running these tests, no other computers connected.
Nothing downloading/uploading in the background either.
My profile says 53/20

Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X. -

Can you attach a screenshot or link to the instructions you are following?
You are on the 3.6 release and Firefox 7.0.1 is out. You can download and install the latest release from http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/new/ if you would like to update now. The 3.6 version will be maintained for a while longer, but you should update when you can. -

Regards.Hi JGAmac,
I recently posted concerning the same issue, see "fans not working", for now I totally agree with the answer from Ned Snowing, we should consider us one of the lucky once.
I installed temperature monitor, the iStat pro widget and a temperature widget by Marcel Bresink. For now I dont trust the iStat pro widget to much, it never shows my fans are on, but after doing a complete re-install, reset PRAM and PMU, there is little else we can do, to my knowledge. My temperature never goes above 64°C recently I did a NVRAM reset and now it seems to stay under 58°C. I am currently in Asia where daily averages reach 35° and without airco. So I also have problems to keep my keyboard dry. -
GR/IR expenses not affected with the settlement rule run process in the GL
<i><b>Please neglect by previous post with the same title</b></i>
There is a problem I face while running the settlement rule process related to internal orders on the GR/IR expenses.
According to the internal order settlement rule every expense associated to an Internal order no. whether its an account payable or manual journal accounts it should be settled (distributed) on the cost centers specified in each internal order after the monthly settlement run process is done through T.Code "KO8G", and this actually happens on the entries that are booked manually through T.Code "FB50", but the GR/IR entries is the biggest problem, it didn't reflect the settlement rule distributions in the GL it just gives me the original transaction once its was automatically created through T.Code "MIGO" they are only allocated to a one profit center with no cost center and without being distributed to a multiple cost centers according to the distribution strategy.
After a long search I found that the cost center distribution occurred only on a secondary none GL account named A&P Settlement (720010), all GR/IR expenses was settled correctly only on this account not through the ordinary GL accounts (e.g. Gifts, printed materials) and of course the correct distribution didn't appear in the GL,
So is there a transaction or any way to allocate the GR/IR expenses to there correct cost centers with the correct cost element in the GL?
Is there anything to do with the GR/IR calculation that depends on quantity base not value base?
<i><b>The Process as follows:</b></i>
(<b>1) Creating Internal order with a settlement rule (E.g. Cost center 1 (50%) Cost center 2 (50%)</b>
<b>2) Creating a purchase order associated to an internal order</b>
<b>3) The Goods received and creating the GR transaction T.Code "MIGO"</b>
Acc/DR Expenses accounts
Acc/CR GI/IR Account 400301
Profit enter ###### (eg. 111177)
Cost Center <blank>
Internal order no. ####### (e.g. 9810512)
<b>
4) Closing the GR/IR accounts when receiving the invoice T.Code "MIRO"</b>
<b>When we receive vendor invoice:</b>
Acc/Dr GI/IR Account 400301
Acc/Cr Vendor Account
Profit enter ###### (eg. 111177)
Cost Center <blank>
Internal order no. ####### (e.g. 9810512)
<b>5) Performing the Internal order settlement rule run process</b>
<b>(N.B.</b> By entering the report of the cost center (Actual/Plan/ Variance) T.Code S_ALR_87013611
I found that GR/IR expenses was not charged on the concerned cost centers as shown in the GL <b>)</b>
<b>Your Reply is highly appreciated</b>Thanks for your kind reply,
But is there a way solve this problem?
And what is the use of leaving a field in the account assignment tab for an internal order while creating a PO and it will not take advantage of the settlement rule????????
And as you know the internal order settlement is a way to create a multiple account assignment
Can we solve the problem by making an automatic fake transaction that reverse the value of the GR/IR and creating another transaction can apply on it the settlement rule??
You know that settlement rule process is one of the best features in the SAP system it save time and effort to make distributions manually -
Fixing problems with the Microsoft Windows Installer Cleanup Utility
Sorry for the long subject. I am having what appear to be common problems with my acrobat reader for which the only solution appears to be using the microsoft windows installer cleanup thing.
I have acheived downloading the utility to my desktop but when I try to run it I get an error message as follows:
Across the top of the message it says 'WINDOWS SCRIPT HOST' and in the box it says:
Script: C:\DOCUMEN~1\Karen\LOCAL~1\Temp\IXP000.TMP\StartMsi.vbs
Line: 1
Char: 1
Error: The specified module could not be found
Code: 800700E
Source: (Null)
Does anyone have any clues as to where I can go from here as I am stuck with a program I can neither use or uninstall, and a reascue plan that doesn't want to cooperate either. And please treat me like a 2 yr old with the technical stuff. Thanks. :-)
KarenCan you try to download it again, perhaps to the C:\ drive rather than the Desktop? Delete the Desktop download, then open Windows Explorer, and run the installer from the C:\ drive.
P.S. do you have administrative privileges on your system? -
Parsing XML file with the word "Infinity" in it
I am having a problem within Flex that parses an XML file,
one of the text names within the file contains the word "Infinity".
Unfortunately this is a constant within Flex and the element of my
array does not think it is a text string but a value. I have tried
type setting the xml element, and putting escape characters around
the text but nothing works. If I change the text to lowercase
"infinity" it works fine.
Any help greatly appreciated. This sounds like a bug. Can you file it, with a small code
example that illustrates it, here:

Is there a problem with the Itunes Windows Installer Programme?
The reason I ask is because I had a perfectly working Itunes programme on my external hard drive, from which I then deleted all the double ups of songs I had and then could not gain auto. updates of the dsongs I wished to add to itunes.
It said to reinstall Itunes, which I tried to do and since this time the installation stops when installing the registry components and the following message appears -
There is a problem with the Windows Installer Package. A programme required for this to install could not be run. Comntact your support personall or package provider.
Can anyone help please?
Thank you in advance for any help forwarded

P.S. - Not that well versed in computer speak, so laymans terms welcomed. This message often relates to a problem with Apple software update.
Go to Add remove programs and find Apple Software update. Try repairing it.
Select Change>>repair.
That probably will not work
Then try uninstalling any instance you find of Apple Software update. That probably will not work either.
Download and install Microsoft Installer cleanup utility, there are instructions on the page as well as the download. Note that what you download is the installer not the program – you have to run it to install the program.

To run the program – All Programs>>Windows Install Cleanup
Remove any instance you find of Apple software update with the cleanup utility.
Download a fresh copy of the iTunes installer and save it on your desktop.

What to do with the 201 error installation (mac)
please i dont know what to do
If you ask which disks SSD or SATA to go … it really depends on what kind of >>server you would lie to have.
I saw on the Apple Online Store, there are Mac Pro or Mac Server. What's the differents between them?
If you need fast disks – go for SSD (but ones are expensive and small >>capacities), if you prefer space to speed go for SATA ones.
Is it possible to have my Mac Pro to be setup as "SSD + SATA"? If possible, what do I do with the "settings" when I install the system? (Like OS on SSD, Othres on SATA)
Having 4 HDDs in Mac Pro you might use different RAIDs , depending on your >>need.
RAID? What's good to have a RAID?
It would be price/speed and space compromised solution comparing to SSD. If you
think of 4 SSD connected to RAID – find ones that support RAID
Thanks.

Satellite Pro A120: I have problems with the graphics driver installation for W2k
I have installed windows 2000 on an A120 the system is fully service packed and up to date before I even begin installing the required drivers I am unable to restart the system. Once I install the drivers as recommended I have problems with the graphics driver as it will not install because it requires a restart and then I am unable to install any new programs that require a restart as the driver has not installed correctly.
The laptop is a A120 Pro, 1 week old and came with XP home, because of this toshiba will not offer me support as I have changed the O/S even though they obviously support 2000 on this laptop as they supply the drivers.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.the reason the driver is not working is down to a problem with the windows 2000 not having the ability to reboot.
When you select restart the system appears to power down then stays switched on. Now if I try to install software I get an error saying that the system needs to complete a restart to finish the install of the driver.
The restart problem happens as soon as win2k is installed as although I have now shipped the laptop to the sales team I have another one which has just had a clean install of win2k without any drivers and the fault is present on this one.
I am thinking it could be to do with power management but I'm not to sure as I have never come across this as I normally purchase machines which accept just about any O/S. -
What is the BT Infinity installation complaint pho...
It's in the subject, really. We had BT Infinity installed three days ago and aside from the router having died already (Type A orange power light of death) and a replacement winging its way over, I want to complain about the installation work done. I would like either a phone number to action this or for one of the moderators here to pick up this complaint and action it immediately.
I should have checked it at the time, but yesterday as I was bringing my bins in I checked the work done on the outside of my house to put the cables through the wall for BT Infinity. The engineer who did the job has managed to completely smash up the brick he's gone through, with large chunks having sheared off and just been left behind bushes in front of my property. For comparison, just next to the BT entry point is work done by Sky engineers who managed not to cause damage.
The bloke was a contractor (MJ Quinn integrated services), not a BT employee, and I understand these cowboys are paid per job so it's in their interest to rush. I have however confirmed with my solicitors that since my dealings were with BT, BT are responsible for the damage caused.
Solved!
Go to Solution.lol thats a blowout. They do happen though especially if a lot of pressure is applied to the drill and you happen to be going through the middle of a brick. The installer should have at least applied silicone to the hole and tried to put the brick back together. Sky bloke was lucky in coming out where he did otherwise the same could have happened to him.

Problems with the latest windows installer?
FMS *sigh* FML
I am trying to get live streaming running on my windows 7 machine (as full admin; permissions shouldn't be an issue)
- Windows install
- No serial/Development server version
- Yes Appache
- Admin, password...
- Default, default, default...ect, GO.
Out of box, nothing worked - localhost just laughed at me with a blank ("could not connect") page and the FMS admin page was no better "Login attempt to the server below failed...etc". Then I found that [root]/Apache2.2/conf/httpd.conf came straight from the installer like this
# Please see httpd.conf.orig for the configuration of a default
# (non-FMS) installation of apache.
Listen 8134
# If you plan to run FMS as root on linux, you _must_ specify a
# valid user, with access to the FMS installation direction, or
First off - Isn't that supposed to be set to 80? Also, httpd.conf had no definition for ServerRoot - I am no apache expert (that cannot be overstated) but everytime i've used it, i've needed to define this.
Anyway, I figured I had nothing to lose and so armed with essentially my mom's working knowledge of Apache's .conf schema, I went in and changed "Listen 80" and added a definition for ServerRoot, reset and...tada...finally, localhost would resolve to that FMS startup page. But that doesn't mean much because I get a timeout/failure on the rtmp demo (sure the http demo works but who cares; ignf about http). But that makes sense because the FMS admin page STILL can't connect to localhost (or localhost:1111 for that matter) so there was no server instance to connect to anyway...[Jason slumps; a broken man].
Anyway - anyone have any insight? Same problems += soultion?Hi,
Thank you for trying FMS.
Though you mentioned you have the admin access on your windows 7 machine, I still doubt the admin privileges are the cause of the problem for you. Let's take your issues one by one.
After the FMS installation, the installer gives options to start the service automatically (few check boxes to select). But on Windows 7, that wont work straight away even though you are logged in as admin. What you need to do is to open a command prompt (with run as administrator). So, your command prompt is actually elevated with admin stuff. Now try to start the fms services as below :
c:\> net start fms
c:\> net start fmsadmin
Once you get the successful messages, try to make connections, it should work.
Next, the apache that comes along with FMS runs/listens on 8134 itself. Port 80 is taken over by the FMS processes (to be exact, the FMSEdge process) which will redirect all HTTP traffic to Apache on 8134 and all the RTMP traffic to itself (to be exact, to FMSCore process) and hence you can keep the 8134 intact.
Once your services start correctly, there wont be any port conflict/problems.
Please try and let us know if that helps.
Thank you ! -
