My razr M locked up

I have had this phone less than a week and it is completely frozen/locked.    I get a voice describing what button I press but it will not open up. I have the main screen but tapping opens up NOTHING!!!  I cannot access anything or even power off.
I am disabled and so difficult to get into a store for help...any suggestions would be wonderful!

First do a cache clear.  Follow the alternate instructiond for factory reset, but instead of doing a FR choose the "wipe cache partition" option.

You can clear individual application cache and data (including Chrome):
http://support.verizonwireless.com/clc/devices/knowledge_base.html?id=63887&lid=sayt&sayt=razr%20m%20application%20cache%20clear*
Try safe mode.  Read the intro to safe mode.

As a final option it's factory reset time (see first link).

  • Brand New Droid Razr M locking up

Upgraded from Blackberry Bold to Droid Razr M Friday - didn't use it much over the weekend but was pretty impressed that the battery didn't need charging until Sunday night. However, today (Monday) I have had to hard reboot the phone twice (hold down the silver power key and volume down controls simultaneously). Both times the phone has just locked up; the blue indicator in the top left was still flashing but the screen would not wake up and calls to the handset went to VM after the normal number of rings for a non-answered call.
I'm liking the phone so far (90% of the time); call audio is crystal clear and the volume is good, operation has been very responsive and not laggy at all. No crazy apps loaded - just standard social media (FB & Twitter), email (gmail; hotmail; Moxier for corporate server connection), Flashlight, Bible, Pandora, Navigator, Kindle, Adobe reader, Salesforce, Youtube, Chrome, Firefox, and a few others.
    Anyone else having this issue?
    Phone is running:
    - System version: 98.12.4.XT907.Verizon.en.US
    - Model number: DROID RAZR M
    - Android 4.1.1
    - Baseband version: SM_BP_1139.000.32.62P
    - Kernel version: 3.0.31-g2a89152
    - Build number: 9.8.1Q_27-2
    - Build date: Sun Oct 21 16:08:45 PDT 2012
Any VZ folks online that can speak to this being a version/build issue?
I cannot get on the phone swap merry-go-round; this is a work phone and I need it to at least handle the basics. Any solid leads/resolutions will be most appreciated!

Thanks for the follow up; I appreciate the analysis but being naturally stubborn, it seems poor to have a 'smartphone' that isn't able to use widely distributed apps. While your solution may end up being all or part of the fix, I'm going to string along and see what happens over the next few days. One app change I did make was removing the redundant Hotmail app; I have my Hotmail account set up to sync with the Google Mail app so I had a thought that there might be a conflict between the two mail apps that were syncing to the same account...don't know if that's relevant but we'll see.
It looks like I have the latest and greatest firmware available from VZ - at least per their 'no updates available' message when I checked for system updates.
    Thanks again for answering!

  • Why is my DROID RAZR screen locking slowly ?

I can unlock the screen, use apps and ect. fine but when I lock the screen (press the power button) it does it really slowly. I recently downloaded snapchat but that was at least 5 hours ago and this problem started happening now.

It is never fun to have issues with your device erinsimbaswift! Did these issues just start after you downloaded Snapchat? Have you tried to uninstall it to see if the issue persists? Go to settings > Apps > Manage Apps and delete that particular application. Let us know how it goes!

  • PDroid Razr M locked up

Phone is locked on the "cyclops" screen.  Working fine earlier, plugged in to charge and that is where I found it.  Tried calling Verizon for help listed on here but got a recording to call *611 from my phone.  Duh.... can't since the **** phone isn't working.  Tried to get a chat going but it says all techs are busy.  Tried connecting it to my laptop but it isn't even seen by the computer.  Any suggestions?  Verizon stores are closed now.

        Officer193,
We're here to help! I know how important a properly functioning phone is.  Was the phone in a certain application when this occured? Is there any physical or water damage to the device?
You may need to try this alternate reset method;  http://www.verizonwireless.com/support/knowledge-base-103978/

  • Droid Razr locked up!!!

I have noticed several people posting that their Droid Razr locked up this week, mine also locked up on Wednesday.  I have also tried a soft reset and a hard reset with nothing working.
My thought is this was caused by a software update that was pushed out by Motorola.  If your phone locked up in the last two days please post here so I can gather info to contact them.  Thanks!

        mwfreedom,
So sorry to hear the Droid Razr is locking up! To clarify, do you mean the screen freezes and the device becomes unresponsive? What sort of things are you doing when the device locks up? You wrote that you thought the issue is related to a software update. When did you receive the update and when did your trouble begin? Which software version is currently installed? http://vz.to/1DyebCB

  • Notifications on locked screen possible?

    Moved for greater exposure

    Hi bobh080850!
It's understandable you wanting to be able to see your notifications, even when your screen is locked.  I would like to assist.
The DROID RAZR screen lock is a nicely added feature to prevent accidental touches.  The only thing you're allowed to access while screen is locked is "Emergency Calls".  Just know this feature is set this way for your privacy.
I hope I have answered your question, and have addressed your concern.

  • Is my Droid Razr Maxx xt912 locked for use with another carrier's SIM - either in the U.S. or globally?

Is the Verizon Droid Razr Maxx XT912 locked to prevent using another carrier's SIM in the U.S.?  Is it blocked to prevent use of another carrier's SIM outside the U.S.?
    Thanks

Hi MattFlash, that is a great questions and I would be happy to help! The good news is that all of our 4G devices would be unlocked and ready for use with another carrier, so the Maxx is ready to go. If you would like to use another carriers service you may need their SIM card and would then need to follow their activation procedures. Hope this helps!

  • Lock volume on Razr Maxx

I have a Razr Maxx and frequently reduce the ring volume by inadvertly depressing the rocker switch, by putting it in and out of my case. This causes me to miss calls. Is there any to lock the volume?

Hey larry130, being able to hear your calls and keep the volume on is super important! I double checked the Razr Maxx settings and I'm sorry to say that there isn't a volume lock control or setting to keep it from dialing down. You may benefit from downloading a 3rd party application from the Google Play Store. A top 3rd party application I have heard can lock the volume is RingGuard. Keep us posted if this app works great for you.

  • Droid razr locking up and rebooting

We'll mines doing the same thing kind of. On battery power I noticed that once it hits 40% battery you search the web or emails or even to some texting it will lock up or freeze and then let it set and it reboots on its own. Then it will lock up upon restarting and do it again about 3 times in a row. Did a factory reset yesterday and today sane thing.  So since it off warranty I eaither deal with it or do an insurance claim.

Have you tried booting into recovery and clearing cache? That cures a multitude of ailments.

  • Droid razr continually freezing/locking up.

This is becoming a serious frustration because i end up doing a hard restart on my phone about 20 times a day. I did a factory reset with a recovery once last week. My problems continued and i did it again just yesterday.
My phone is still locking up on me and i want a reason as to why this is happening. I have no viruses on my phone, all apps are turned off and it still locks up.
If someone could please help me i would be very grateful.

  • Constant restarts and lock ups

My Droid Maxx is 1 year 6 months old.  It's to the point where it constantly restarts itself, locks up for no reason, or has to be restarted because it's doing nothing.
This has been going on for about a month and I'm fed up.
I've tried clearing the memory, running in safe mode, and doing a fresh restart on the phone after reformatting it.  None seem to help.
Can any offer any other suggestions?
    Thanks in advance.

The DROID Maxx was released in August 2013. Which was five months ago. http://www.phonearena.com/phones/Motorola-DROID-MAXX_id7970

What should I do if my phone freezes or locks up?
In the unlikely event that your device becomes unresponsive, try a force reboot.
Press and hold the power key + volume down key for 10 seconds to perform a force reboot on the device.
Note: Data on your phone will not be deleted.
There are a few things that might be causing your phone to freeze or act sluggish. It is important to pay attention to how often handset has this behavior when troubleshooting. Consistent screen freezes that never go away even after power cycle might be signs that repair is needed or that the handset might need to be reset.
    Keep in mind:
Your handset can be sluggish initially after power up, so make sure handset has time to register with your cellular network and load up applications and widgets before being concerned.
Pulling up attachments from Emails can take up to minute or so to come onscreen. If screen or handset operations are freezing often, try the following to correct the issue: Make sure you have the latest software installed. The latest software release will always ensure you have the latest performance enhancing updates for your DROID RAZR MAXX phone. You can check to see if your phone has the latest software by following the steps below:Checking for the latest software For more information on latest software updates, visit www.motorola.com/mydroidrazr and click on the link undersoftware updates and drivers. If you continue to experience issues, performing a Factory Data Reset.Factory Data Reset is a tool used to remove everything that was imported, added or installed on the device. Keep in mind, when using this feature everything is deleted. Nothing stored on the MicroSD or the internal phone storage will be affected unless you choose to erase it as well.Factory Data Reset
Turn the phone off and then on, let handset settle in idle mode for several minutes and then repeat activity prior to freezing to try and duplicate issue.
Make sure your battery is fully charged.
If you recently downloaded any item before the sluggish behavior, such as a game or application, try to uninstall the item.
Touch the app tab, in the home screen to open the app menu
    Tap Settings.
    Tap About Phone.
    Tap System Updates.
If there is a software update available, select Update to download the latest software release.
From the screen of your phone, press the Menu button
    Tap Settings.
    Scroll down and tap Privacy
    Tap Factory Data Reset
Check Erase internal storage if you would like to erase all the data on the phone internal storage such as applications, music, movies or photos.
    Tap Reset Phone

Thanks for the info regarding the latest update. I like some of the new/improved options, however I am highly disappointed that the update discontinued the reminder option. I would think that setting a program reminder is a highly used feature and many will be unhappy now that it is gone. I know I surely am!

  • My Razr HD no longer recognizes my login password.

I can't get past the logon screen. In the very brief time I used the new update and from the number of complaints from unhappy customers, people should be fired over releasing this update. VERIZON I am seriously considering paying the early cancellation fee to be done with this crap!!!!

After turning on my Razr HD. It prompted me for a Decryption password to unlock my data storage. I had only ever enable the key lock pin to secure the device & never encrypted my data. It wouldn't accept my pin #.
As an FYI for anyone else that reads this or has a similar problem. I spent at least an hour with Verizon technical support including Level 2. They had me go through 2 "factory data resets", wipe my cache, and still were unable to get my phone back in service.
They then patched me over to Motorola Technical Support. They were also unable to find a resolution, but did step up and send me a new phone within 24 hours. To my surprise and glee, the new phone has Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean and if at all possible I will avoid allowing it to upgrade to KITKAT.
So thank Motorola for keeping me from going to an iPhone on AT&T.

  • Droid Razr M: KitKat Update Fail

I have tried to update my Droid Razr M with the OTA KitKat update and it fails every time.  It downloads fine, but only installs about 25% then goes to the Android laying on his back with a exclamation point.  It then restarts and says, "Software Update Failed".  I have tried several times and even done a hard reset and it still fails.  Please help.

Uneventful update:  My stock red Motorola M had been gone since I tried to (removed)  I had thought (mistakenly) that this indicated my system was corrupted but now I realize the logo is just that...an image.
Before the rest of you posted, I believed that if I did a hard reset, Kitkat would load.  But apparently that is not the case.
(removed) though I did have before Tuesday.
Is it possible to wipe delvik and cache with a locked bootloader?  If so, how?
