My Razr Maxx went dead

My razr maxx went dead over night and I cannot turn it on. The battery was charged and I plugged it back in to be sure. Still cannot turn it on. Is there a way to remove the battery to reset it or can it be done another way?

The phone would not turn on at all. While I was hoping for a reply I read the thread above mine, outlining how to do a factory reset. I removed the sim and memory cards and tried the alternative method. The phone came on when I released the buttons. I powered it back down and replaced the cards, All is working fine. Thank you for your reply.

  • Droid Razr Maxx/Issues with Exchange Sync and Texting

I have a Droid Razr Maxx.  Since the KitKat update to 4.4 in May 2014, my Exchange email account will not sync. My Comcast account does.    If I power cycle the phone, it will sync the Exchange account for a short time until I receive the following error message:  'couldn't open connection to server due to sec..."  When I touch the error message, it just goes away.  If there is more of the error message, I'm unable to see it.  I have removed the Exchange account and added it back in three times.  My IT department indicates they have not made any changes to the security levels, but have fielded several questions from other Android users with the KitKat update.  My text messaging service also stopped.  I've been reviewing all forums and tried different things, but to no avail.  I went to the Verizon store, who just said that there have been 'lots' of complaints about KitKat and that I should buy a different phone.  This $200+ phone is only 7 months old.  Please help!!

After deleting and adding my Corporate account, visiting the local Verizon store several times, visiting my IT department, and now wiping the phone and re installing all software, the Corporate email still only syncs when I power cycle the phone.  We are a BYOD company which means every other phone works with the Exchange account.  My phone also worked up until the KitKat update in May 2014. The only recommendation I have received from Verizon is to replace my 8 month old Motorola Razr Maxx with a entirely different phone at full price. The tech I spoke with at Verizon made the statement that she has avoided updating to KitKat given all the customer issues she has had to deal with.
I'm in a technology field and understand when glitches occur, but also expect functionality issues to be addressed. I've been with both Verizon and Motorola for a long time, but very doubtful I will continue this relationship when contract time is up for renewal.  I'm carrying my iPad around to get the Corporate emails and the Razr Maxx has been relegated to just being a very expensive phone.

  • Verizon Edge????  What will be the stipulations.  & Major issue w/ Razr Maxx HD

Let me explain why I am wondering about this at this point and the problems I am having.  I am wondering and hoping to get some concrete info on the new edge plan.  I am on my third refurb warranty replacement phone.  I am sick and tired of it at this point.  This third phone is a Razr Maxx HD and of course the first week it starts acting up.  I get the following icons either one or all at the same time:  sim card icon, a no smoking type circle thing over the signal bars, and then that will turn into a red triangle with a white plus sign.  A month and a half later and 3 sims card later, I still have no idea at any given moment when I can actually use my phone.  Even motorola said if the third sims card does the same thing then it has something to do in the sims card slot. Believe me, i have went round and round with customer service about this.  I'm so sick of this situation at this point I would like to trade for a different phone but it seems that not an option at this point.  So it's either get another refurb Razr Maxx HD or buy a Note 2 at $700 all up front to keep my unlimited data.  Now I have an old Alltel plan with a limited amount of minutes which is enough for us but we have unlimited text and UNLIMITED DATA.  Now the only way to keep this is to purchase a phone at full retail.  I was already to upgrade my plan and get a Note 2 at the discounted price but I just cant give up my unlimited data I don't think....I mean 10 gb of data with three phone is almost the same price as I pay now with unlimited data.  It's a little bit more but come on its unlimited data.  AHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!  We have been averaging 6 gb approx but still get a Note 2 and I see my usage going up.  April I used over 6 myself (daggone Pandora radio lol).  Ok what I need to know is how this new program is going to work exactly.  I know you are supposed to be able to purchase a new device at full retail price with no contract and make payments on it over a 24 month period.  Then after 6 months and only if you have paid half of what the device cost on full retail, you would be able to purchase another device.  My issue comes in at ... should I wait till this program goes live Aug. 25th to get a Note 2, get one now at full retail (but its $700) all up front, or just get another refurb Razr Maxx HD for now.  Plus I heard the Note 3 is coming this fall but I'm not holding my breather about it.  I would like to know more specifics about the New Edge plan especially if they will allow us on unlimited data plans to keep keep it if we use this program.  Can someone please help?

B33 I have read your links thank you for the time.  So it does seem Verizon will not let us unlimited data users to take advantage of the Edge program.  Nor do I believe it is good anyway.  I see people selling their phones for 2 and 3 times as much as what the trade in program gives you anyway right now.  So if you have to trade your phone back in definitely not coming out ahead to me anyway.  I am not one to want to trade every 6 months to a year anyway unless my phone has just crapped out on me.
As far as the update, I have already ran the update and it did nothing to help my phone.  According to Motorola it is something inside of the sims card slot messed up.  It was still doing after I ran the update.  I never know when I can and can't use my phone.
I was all ready to go get a Note 2 but do not want to lose the unlimited date even if we only use 6 gb combined right now.  You never know when you will start using more esp if I got the Note 2.  But...I hate to try and put out $700 right now.  And I do not know how it is handled if I buy one off of EBAY even if the one I buy is new. So I am in between a rock and a hard place.  My contact at my store thinks I should get another refurb and wait out till more details come out about this program to see if it will help me.  Any additional advice is wanted and appreciated.

  • Possible update solution for some Jelly Bean issues on Razr Maxx

I bought a Razr Maxx used two weeks ago and wanted to a post a possible solution to the broken Jelly Bean update. My Razr Maxx (practically new) was slow, lagged, and gave me about 10 hours of battery life. Also, my Wi-Fi was horrible just 10 feet from the wireless router and it ran hot.
Before I chucked it for a used S3 I decided to do what others had done. Keep in mind, the phone had been previously factory reset after the JB update had been OTA'ed to the unit a few months ago. It was put in a drawer as the person bought a new phone.
So to be clear: It had gone through a factory reset but without clearing internal memory and had serious issues. I had cleared the Dalvik cache but it didn't help. Here's what fixed my phone:
I did a battery recalibration. This can be done by running the phone down to zero. Shutting it off and charging it overnight. This may have to be performed twice.
Backed up my files, removed the mSD card and from the OS, erased the internal storage. I also went into the Settings / Privacy and set Automatic Restore to off.
I cleared the Dalvik Cache again.
    http://www.droidforums.net/forum/droid-razr-maxx/232462-how-wipe-cache-without-doing-factory-reset.html
    I  booted into safe mode.
    http://support.verizonwireless.com/clc/devices/knowledge_base.html?id=50079
From the OS within safe mode, I performed a factory reset and had it clear the internal storage again.
    Started the setup process.
    Cleared Dalvik Cache again.
The result is a smooth "buttery" feel (well, as smooth as this platform can offer) no massive lagging like before where the phone would just lock up for five seconds, no over heating, WiFi is seemingly normal and battery life is Maxx instead of Min. To give you an idea, the phone had been on light use and on for maybe 13 on battery when I did the reset. I did the hard reset from a 65% battery and reinstalled all the apps over WiFi and reconfigured. At 2:30 a.m. it was at 1 percent so I set the screen to 100% brightness and played a video until it died about 3 a.m. Basically the screen was on and the phone being used from around 9 p.m. until 3 a.m. after coming off the charger at 8 a.m. the previous morning.
Will this work for you? I don't know but I know the Jelly Bean in place upgrade on this phone is pretty flaky from the complaints.
If your phone has been turned into a pile of junk by the update, you have nothing left to lose unless you're just using it as a bargaining chit to get a new phone from VZW.
Good luck to anyone who tries it.
If you are trying to diagnose battery issues, I recommend GSAM.

What i am wanting to know is any one Els hereing this on there Razr or Razr Maxx. It has kind of got to the point of maybe returning it for a new one.  And this is the first device that i have ever had do this.  My Droid X or my Droid Incredible never popped in the speaker like my Razr is Doing. Never!   B33

It will do this from time to time Mine does it as Well Make Sure you get the App Called EQ you can get it Free or you can get the Paid Version an using this app will help with the snapping as it did Mine how did it do it once i got the app installed an then went in an Opened it. I cut the 14kHz down to + 1.2% an you can cut it down even further mostly with Eq's you just find the sound that best suites you an calms down the Snapping.. But if it's really bad Mickam an since your under your 14 days you could return if want but as said if you want to give a day or Two an see if the i mentioned helps the sound go ahead an Keep it..

  • Razr Maxx screen wont stay on for more then 3 seconds

So I got my droid razr maxx in today and this is the first smart phone i've ever owned. The screen keeps shutting off after 3 seconds and i have to press the power button to put the phone in idle and then press it again to bring the phone back in order to make the screen turn back on. Nothing else makes the screen turn back on but i can select everything on the screen as if it were on. I had to set up my entire account by quickly punching in my gmail account and password before the screen turned off on me and i had to go idle and come back. I had to do this straight through the setup phase of the phone. When i finally finished the setup i went into the settings and set the display setting to never turn the screen off. It didn't stop the screen from turning off. So i charged the phone to 100 percent from the 60 percent it came at. The screen still shuts off 3 seconds after i turn the phone on. Is it bricked ? Whats going on ?

    Foon,
Good afternoon! Congratulations on your first smart phone! I would love to offer my assistance to ensure your experience is an enjoyable one.  Ann154 asks a great question(thank you!). Is there a case, holster, etc covering up the proximity sensor? Even screen protectors have been know to degrade the ability of the sensor.  If you determine that nothing is obstructing the sensor, I recommend a 'Hard Reset' to the device in order to return the phone to factory settings. It may be necessary, after the reset, to go over options to have the device replace either under the 14-day exchange period or under Motorola's warranty.
Please reply back so I and the community can assist further.
    Thank you,

  • My Droid Razr Maxx froze last night. It is not worth the money.

This is my 2nd Droid since June. The first I had for 2 weeks and the battery was draining in less than 24 hours. This one I got in the 3rd week of June. I bought it because I wanted a good phone camera - I rarely use data, it is used mainly for calls and texting . I DID send a pic to Facebook last weekend, and could not log out of Facebook. This might be the cause of following freezing, don't know). The screen started going crazy occasionally after having it a month. It does the same thing other people have posted - opens apps, opens text messages and types, has made calls, etc. It has also frozen. Last night it froze on me. I tried turning it off and the screen went blank. The battery was not low, but I plugged it in anyway - it didn't show that it was charging so I unplugged it and hoped it would be ok in the morning. Sometime in the night it beeped indicating I had a text. It did it again around 6:30 a.m.. When I got up, it still had the blank screen and the message light was flashing. I couldn't get a screen. I plugged it in to charge it and after app. 15 minutes my screen came up but it was still frozen. I've had two phone calls I couldn't answer. After app. an hour the screen went blank again, and the red circling image indicating it's turning on started and has now been running for about 30 minutes. I no longer have a land line and am going to have to drive 27 miles to a store to get it fixed when I need to be preparing for the coming hurricane. I'm posting this as additional evidence that something is wrong with these phones, and they are not worth the money.

When the RAZR/ RAZR MAXX freezes, you can hold down both the Power and the Volume Down button at the same time for about 7-10 seconds, until it flashes. This is what is called a "Soft Reset". You will not lose anything because of this reset.  As far as your battery time, 24 hours between charges might be considered good. It all depends on what apps you have installed, the location and signal of the towers for coverage, etc. I take mine off the charger around 5:00 AM, and when I go to bed at 10:00 PM, I am usually between 30-60%, depending on my usage during the day.

  • ICS replaced my Razr MAXX battery with a Samsung battery!

I know that there are people out there having issues with their battery life since the ICS update, and I happen to be one of them as well.  Both my wife and I have the Razr MAXX and both have seen a dramatic decrease in battery life.  I can't even make it through the day without charging my phone.  Even throughout the day, I keep my phone in my pocket and I can feel it getting warm, warmer than I recall it getting on GB, and more frequently.  Now I read some of the theories behind this and followed through with them and still have had no luck.  Here are some examples:
1.)  Because of the update, you've been playing with the phone more to find out all the cool features you have, get familiar with it, etc.
                 - I was doing that the first couple of days, now I am not.  I still have the issue
2.)  Use Smart Actions to help conserve your battery
                 - I have had that set up when I had GB and checked it after the ICS and nothing has changed (much like any other settings on my phone).
3.)  Use the *#*#4636#*#* feature to switch from CDMA/LTE to CDMA Only
                 - Done
4.)  Don't charge it unless it needs it or let it sit on the charger for an extended period of time.
                 - Well, everyday is the only option I have for charging, and I already know that leaving it on a charger for an extended period of time will wreck the battery life, previous experience.  Plus, I get the notification when it's full.
    5.)  Check you sync settings
                 - Once again, nothing has changed there during the update.  Everything checks as frequently as it did before.
    6.)  Clear cache
                 - No luck
    7.)  Try doing....
                 - You name it, I've tried it..
Another issue that my wife is experiencing, at times when people call her, she nor the person calling her can hear her, there is not even any static.  She has to restart her phone and call the people back.  Her phone rings, she can answer but all you hear is... nothing.  That about my biggest beefs with this ICS
Before someone starts trolling and says "Why did you have to post another discussion when there is a bunch of others with the same issue", I did post a question a few days ago, had no answers from that.  And also, I'm reposting a new discussion for the simple reason that I am letting people know what I have done and that I haven't found any real answers that are working.  Does anyone else have any ideas?

I noticed more then usual battery drainage right after receiving the ICS Update.  I did a few things on the Maxx and battery is actually a little better now then pre ICS.
    1) I stopped using Smart Actions
    2) I shut my Blue Tooth and Wi-Fi off manually
    3) I clicked on the menu button on the phone and selected Manage Apps
    4) I disabled ALL of the bloatware on the phone (apps I do not use and these will vary from user to user)
         VZ Navigator
         My Verizon Mobil
         Amazon
         Slacker Radio
    A total of 19 apps.
    5) I used the Menu above to set the phone to CDMA Auto (PRL)
This not only saved me a ton of Battery, it also gave me back some more usable RAM as the Bloatware is not using it, and also my Data usage went down since the Bloatware is not using Data anymore.

  • Razr Maxx internal storage question?

My NEW Razr Maxx only has 8GB Internal storage. What gives, shouldn't have 15GB as advertized?

LOL  I dont even kow where to begin to answer this....you really need to do a little more research before coming onto a public forum opening your yap and making a fool of yourself...
First off,  the 'Billy does it too' defense is just plain childish and in this case just wrong.  The 16 gb iPhone DOES NOT use 8GB for the OS.  Trust me I owned the 16 and 32 GB  iPhone.  The 32 GB lost about 2GB for the OS.  I wasnt thrilled with this either but I found it acceptable. I dont see how you can seriously stand here and defend a company that advertises a phone with 16GB of internal storage and only have 8 actually available.
And Verizon is not even training their store employees about this little deception.  The next time you are in your local mall, stop into the Verizon store and ask how much internal storage the MAXX has.   They will all say 1GB and none of them will have a clue that only 8 is actually usable.  Try it...My salesman was about to swap out my phone when I showed him the 8 GB because he thought it should have 16. He then went online and found the lame discalimer at the very bottom of the MAXX page.
And why does Verizon insist on loading over 2 pages of useless apps that can not be removed.  Do I really need the Blockbuster app on my phone?  NO.  Can I remove it to free up more space?  NO   Verizon is obvioulsy getting paid by these companies to load there app onto the phone.  I should be able to remove the crap apps I dont want.  And before you ask or start saying 'but but they do it too'...Apple does NOT do this.

  • Droid Razr Maxx HD wont turn off when charging....

I have been using Droids since they have come out and very familiar with them. I recently (three days ago) upgraded to the Razr Maxx HD and went to plug it in to charge (i already powered down) and when I plug it in to charge, the phone comes back on. I shut it off, while plugged in, and it power off and then turns right back on again. I have tried all combinations and can't get it to STAY OFF while i'm charging. Suggestions?

    "half to Case"?

  • Droid Razr Maxx HD wallpaper

I am totally new to the smart phone world.  I decided to buy the Razr Maxx HD.  I was able to figure out how to apply wallpaper.  I found a cute live wallpaper that looked like a VU Meter.  recently my phone did an update, now my wallpaper is gone.  I went to reload it, & it's not in the list of options any more.
can someone tell me how I can put the wallpaper that I had originally back on?
I have a million questions, but this is my 1st one.
    thanks for any help/input.

If the long press on the screen, bringing up the wallpaper options doesn't work, you may need to get into the play store and install the wallpaper again.

  • DROID RAZR MAXX Issue, Screen Issue

My one month old Droid Razr Maxx, has encountered an issue and is useless exept to tell the time. I was trying to change my wallpaper when the phone became very slow and laggy. The screen then flickered a little and went black. Next, it rebooted and then the home screen went black, except for the status bar which looks normal but will not drop down. Once the screen goes black from inactivity (even trying to press the touch keys produces no effect), pressing the screen unlock button will not turn the screen on. The screen will only turn on when connected to a charger. I had recently downloaded the gallery lock app (Morrison Smart Software), which seems to have mostly good reviews. I have performed 3 or 4 hard resets thus far. I need help fixing my phone. I can't remove the battery on this phone, and then screen isn't working correctly so I can't do a factory reset.

Can you boot into SAFE MODE ??  You can also UNINSTALL that Gallery Lock APP from the online Android Market (PLAY).
    Safe mode:
    - Power Off
    - Power On
    - Press & HOLD both up & down volume buttons at the same time -- for like 3 mins while it boots up. Keep holding these down!
    - Phone should eventually come up and say SAFE MODE in lower left corner ..
Does THAT work???  If so, see if that app is in your APP drawer and try to uninstall it.
If that doesn't work, you can boot into the Maintenance Menu using a similar procedure that can get you to the ability to do a Factory Reset, if that's what you want to do.
    let us know.

  • Caller id readout on Droid Razr Maxx HD

How do you turn off caller id readout on the Droid Razr Maxx Hd? There is not a Call Settings option under Settings and/or Accessibility

Thank you, I appreciate your response. However,  I went to a Vz wireless store on the same day I made the query because I needed a more immediate response. A Support person was able to correct the problem. I think that Motorola should have made the Settings App the location where this should be controlled. Even a call to Tech Support resulted in a new phone being sent out to me because they thought my phone may have been defective.
Thank you, again for your response.

  • Droid Razr Maxx keyboard is unusable

The stock keyboard and every single other 3rd-party keyboard that I've downloaded is very inaccurate/buggy. I've experienced things such as letters not activating when I type, and even entire words being deleted as I'm typing. Even the Swype that came stock with the phone is annoying; the auto-corrections are ridiculous. It has no idea how to guess what I'm trying to say.
Because I've had no issues with some of these same keyboards on the Galaxy Nexus, I believe that the issue is in this phone. Other than the typing issues, I love this phone. The battery life is INCREDIBLE. But please, I need help on this typing issue. I hate texting now.. it takes so long to type a message since when I type at my normal speed, the phone can't keep up.
Just fyi: I used to own the Galaxy Nexus until I went through 3 replacements. When I had had enough of that, they sent me the Razr Maxx. I think they call them "refurbished." I never trust pre-owned stuff, but hey, what can ya do.

    Agreed.
    In addition:

    Occasional spaces inserted between character
