My reformatted iPod mini is cutting off tracks early - WHY?

I've had my 4GB ipod mini since 2005. I used it with a PC for years, but recently bought a macbook so reformatted my ipod. Since reformatting, it has started chopping off the ends of tracks - sometimes 5-10 seconds before the end of the track, other times over a minute early. It skips onto the next track each time.
I have checked that the track playlength times match up, and that the songs play correctly in itunes. Is this a sign that the hard drive is giving up on me?
Thanks.

See doing the following helps
For Mac computer
1. Open the disk utility, hope your iPod appears there (left hand side), highlight it
2. Go to Tab “Partition”, click either “Delete” or “Partition”, if fails, skip this step and go to 3
3. Go to Tab “Erase” , choose Volume Format as “MAC OS Extended (Journaled), and click Erase, again if fails, skip it and go to 4
4. Same as step 3, but open the “Security Options....” and choose “Zero Out Data” before click Erase. It will take 1 to 2 hours to complete.
5. Eject your iPod and do a Reset
6. Open the iTunes 8 and click “Restore”

  • My iPod Classic is cutting off the ends of songs; what's up with this?

My iPod Classic is cutting off the ends of songs...just silence. The play indicator shows that there's more data there but it's just blank. The songs play fine on iTunes and the data on my PC (Windows 7, iTunes 11.02.26). And it's not always the same song... It's like random. So it's got to be a bug in the iPod Classic firmware. Any help from Apple? Get a Zune?

Is it always the same songs that get cut off?  So the question is, after you do a Restore, when you re-sync songs back to the iPod, is it always the same songs that get cut off?  Or are they different songs each time?  Try doing a Restore and re-sync several times...
If they are the same songs, that points to a problem with the song files.  Maybe there is data corruption on your computer's hard drive, that caused the song files to become corrupted in a way that iTunes on the computer can still handle, but the iPod's software cannot.  The corrupted songs stay the same.
If they are different songs, that points to a problem on the iPod.  If a Restore does not fix the problem, then it may be data corruption caused by the iPod's hard drive becoming unreliable.  When you do a re-sync after Restore, the data is not being stored properly on the iPod due to a hardware problem.  It randomly affects different songs each time during the re-sync

  • Why does iPod on iPhone4 cut off the beginning of audio files?

First time user of Apple and iTunes and iPhone4. I transfer my audio files onto my iPhone, play them in iPod and it cuts off the first 10 or more seconds or so. The files play perfectly well in every other device and player. Why does this happen in iTunes/iPhone/iPod? How to fix this?
    Thanks.

  • IPod Touch 4G cuts off last few seconds of song.

My iPod touch cuts of the last few seconds of songs, the longer the song, the more is cut off.  Think "Yes - Yours Is No Disgrace", lists the time as 9:40 in the playlist, but on the "now playing" screen is only 9:35.  No problem in iTunes or my other 3 iPods with the same song.  It's very consistent and always happens at the same place.  "gapless album" setting makes no difference.  I will try re-ripping the album with iTunes to see if that helps, but don't see why it should.

Resetting "almost" worked - the first time I played the song after resetting it showed 9:40 in the now playing screen, but ultimately it still cut off, and then when I restarted the song it again showed only 9:35.  But thanks for the suggestion.
I re-ripped the album using iTunes, and it now plays fine.  I am suspecting that the decoder used in the iPod touch is different from other iPods.  Now I've got to go and re-rip all the albums that have the problem <groan>.

I was trying to register my ipod that I just got. I want to click "agree" to the policy but the page gets cut off to the right. So my only options are to save the document and to cancel. Any suggestions on what to do?

  • HT2729 my music videos on my ipod touch are cut off

when I play my music videos on my ipod touch, they are cut off in beggining or the middle.

On you iPod, force close all the Apps in the multitask window.
Follow these steps to force an app to close:
From the Home screen, click the Home button twice.
Tap and hold on the app.
When it starts to jiggle, tap the to close it one by one until all cleared
Now do a Soft reset of your iPod:
Hold both Home and Sleep button for around 10secs until you see the Apple logo then release. After it returns to Home screen, try your youtube and see if this resolves the issue.

  • IPod will not cut off. Yes, I've held the play button.

I can't cut my iPod off. I've held the off button for minutes, still no result.

First off, are you sure that your "hold switch is off? (located on the top of your iPod). "On" is orange, and "off" is grey-colored.
Making sure that your hold switch is off, have you tried resetting your iPod? This may take a few attempts -> Resetting your iPod
    Have you also tried:
--Leaving your iPod to charge on the stand for an extra hour.
--Putting your iPod into Diagnostics Mode (reset the iPod, and as soon as the screen dims, begin to press the Select (center) and "<<" buttons to enter Diagnostic Mode). Run the KeyTest to see if your Play/pause button is even properly responding.
If these attempts do not work, I'd next suggest restoring your iPod. To learn more, read here -> Restoring your iPod to Factory Settings

  • My iPod Mini keeps turning off!!

I have had my iPod for over a year...and recently it has been telling me i have no battery power left and I need to charge it. But it tells me that when I have battery power left. Sometimes its completely charged when it says that. My friend tells me that it means it's broken. I dont know if I should buy a new one or send my iPod in. I have already sent it in once for problems. Please help me!

    I had a similar problem.
I took the mini to a local apple store and the support person performed a "low level" format on the mini, zeroing-out all the sectors on the HD.
He said that there could be corruption on the disk that your just now hitting. Makes sense, I guess. Haven't had the problem reoccur, yet.

  • Problems with music tracks on Video Ipod that worked fine on ipod mini

Just got a video ipod on Christmas. Have owned an ipod mini for two years.
Transferred music and playlists from Itunes Library into the new video ipod.
I'm finding that some of the audio tracks that played fine on the ipod mini are
experiencing problems on the Video ipod. The commonality among the problem tracks are that they were custom tracks I made through Final Cut Pro and exported out as AIFF's. I then used the "Convert to AAC" function in ITunes to change them to AAC before putting them on the ipod mini. Again, these all played fine on the ipod mini. These problem tracks also tend to be long....50 minutes or more...they're comedy albums transferred into Final Cut Pro from off-air VCR/DVR tapings and are one long track.
These same files, while AAC, have problems starting up on the video ipod,
freeze the display and menu controls for a few seconds, or won't play at all. Other normal tracks from CD's or the Itunes store are fine.
Any correction ideas would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

  • IPod cutting off songs/iTunes not recognizing iPod correctly

    Hi,
I have a second generation nano using a PC with Vista operating system, and using the latest iTunes software (7.6.1.9). I have been noticing that more and more of my songs on the iPod have been cutting off, either a few seconds into the song, near the end, etc, but are just fine when played through iTunes from my hard drive. At first it was just a couple of songs, but then more and more started to cut off. Then, the iTunes started telling me that it wasn't able to read my iPod correctly and that I should restore it to original settings. I did that a few times and kept reloading the songs, but the problem still occurs seems to be getting worse. Tonight when I plugged the iPod in, iTunes said that it "detected an iPod but couldn't identify it. Unplug it and plug back in." I did, and it read it, but that particular problem also seems to be getting worse and I'm afraid soon it won't be able to detect the iPod at all (and this latest message was after I updated with the iTunes latest version). It seems like the actual iPod software is corrupted, and that its software needs to be re-installed, not the iTunes. Am I wrong in that assessment? How would I go about doing that? I can't seem to find any clear instructions and I don't see many people reporting this problem.
    Thanks,
    Robyn

I have also had the same problem...
The songs appear to be random, and when I plug my iPod into the computer it is fixed. Sure enough, a monthish later, it happens again.
When my songs get cut off, they are stopped exactly half-way through. Apparently, the iPod thinks that is how long they are, because it plays the time that it shows (the total time only goes to helf of what it normally is).
This does not seem to be a matter of old software, as I am always up-to-date on iPod software, and this has been happening to me with version 1.4.1
I have not Restored my iPod, but apparently that will not help (according to the other posts).
I hope somebody can answer this (although I've posted it twice before with no luck, so...)

  • IPod Cutting off songs

There are a handful of songs that cut off part way through when playing on my IPod. They cut off in the same spot every time, but they play fine on my computer. I have tried restoring & reloading the IPod, and it just starts happening with different songs after.
    Any ideas?

  • Songs Are Cutting Off / Left Earpiece

I have the IPod mini that stores 1500 songs. I only have 120 songs on my IPod and at least 10 songs that I've come across so far are cutting off within the first 10 seconds of the song. I've deleted those songs and added them again and still, same problem. I then deleted all of the songs and transferred them back onto the IPod and some of the songs that were cutting out are now working but others that were fine are now cutting out.
Also, the left earpiece is very low and staticy (sp?). I tried another pair of headphones and am having the same problem which leads me to believe the problem is the IPod not the headphones.
    Anyone familiar with these issues?
    Thanks!

    Hi Nicole!
Have you tried to reset your iPod?? Hold the MENU & CENTER buttons at the same time until you see the Apple logo on your screen and then release them. You might have to do this a couple of times before it actually works. Try to play the songs that the iPod would usually cut off and see what happens. Also, check your ear pieces. Please reply to this post if you keep having the same problem.

  • IPod mini turns itself on

My iPod mini will be off, untouched (not charging, either) on my desk or wherever and turn itself on over night or during the day. Most any large period of any unattended time, really. But not always, maybe once or twice a week. It doesn't matter if the hold is in the locked or unlocked position, it will still turn itself on and wear down the battery. What can I do? Thanks

    Hi Acfro,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions
I have noticed this problem as one of my iPods has gotten older. You might want to try Resetting Your iPod.

  • My ipodtouch keeps cutting off

Ipod is constantly cutting off during use, I tried a restore and it seems to be doing the same thing.  Has anyone experienced this or knows of a solution?

Try restoring the iPOd to factory defaults/new iPod and then sync back items i small increments and see if the problem recurs.
