  • ITunes re-downloading already downloaded Doctor Who episodes.

    Hello,
Everytime I am online, iTunes launches (because of an iPod touch on the same network) and tries to download some Doctor Who episode I purchased late last year (these episodes are from series, or seasons, 5 and 6 and are all SD because I did not want to pay for HD). I already have these episodes downloaded on the same PC this keeps happening on and I can watch the episodes fine. I live in a rural area with slow internet, so I would prefer not having it re-download these episodes (which took 5 hours to download, EACH)! Any way to fix this so I will not have to cancel the download everytime I go online with this PC? I am using a Windows 7 PC.
    Thanks!

    Anyone?

  • HT1657 Rented movie on itunes won't play on mac pro

I rented a movie today and it won't play on my macbook pro.  Any ideas?  I have rented and purchased movies in the past and have never had a problem viewing them.

I'd report the problem to the iTunes Store.
Log in to the Store. Click on "Account" in your Quick Links. When you're in your Account information screen, go down to Purchase History and click "See all".
Find the item that is not playing properly. If you can't see "Report a Problem" next to the item, click the "Report a problem" button. Now click the "Report a Problem" link next to the item.

  • Graphics Glitch (scary like Doctor Who episode)

    Greetings,
    Regarding MacBook Pro 13" i7 (2011):
Yesterday I was watching Season 2, Episode 8 of Doctor Who titled "The Idiots Lantern" on Netflix Streaming via my XBOX. If you are familiar with that episode, the Doctor and Rose arrive in 1950s London during the queens coronation. They discovery that an entity inside televisions has been sucking peoples faces off. Great episode!
What was scary though was that, naturally, I was engrossed by the show and thus was not paying attention to my MacBook when it fell asleep. When I reached over to press the space bar (wake up!), the screen came on but looked much more menacing than usual. I took a photograph:
    http://www.flickr.com/photos/59517691@N05/5548248738/
Note that I was not watching Netflix on my MacBook Pro. The machine was sitting idle and fell asleep while doing nothing, as I expect it to. There was no interfacing between the computer and the XBOX/TV of any kind.
    My questions are this:
    A) Do you think that whatever was inside the TVs in Doctor Who could have got onto my TV and then transferred to my MBP? The Doctor ended up putting the entity onto a VHS and said he would tape over her but he didnt do that before my computer glitched.
B)Has anyone else experienced this problem? I had to force a restart and then the issue went away.
    Thanks much!

Over my sick days off I got more into Torchwood. So far, there is no overt mention of the Doctor, other then 'the right kind of doctor'. He hasn't appeared so far, and I'm on Season 2, Episode 2, through the Targus<sp> makes a cameo. There are a lot of sly references to Dr. Who, but you'd have to be a real Whoovian to get them - they are well hidden and never pointed out.
Overall, a perfect series for those looking for more 'realism' versus Dr. Who and a more serious, down to earth tone - essentially getting rid of the problems Dr. Who had per audience gripes without destroying the original series. Because, really, Dr. Who wouldn't be Dr. Who without some level of (quite appropriate) cheesiness.
After watching 10 episodes in a row while in the midst of a serious flu, and half out of my mind, I am finding myself speaking with a British accent without thinking about it.

It is supposed to function as i described (true/false?)
False, per the link provided above:
"If you download a rented movie on your iPhone 4 or later, iPad, iPod touch (4th generation or later), or Apple TV: It is not transferable to any other device or computer."  The only way to transfer a rented movie is if you rent it from your computer, and then it can be moved around to other devices but (a) it can only exist on one device at a time, and (b) you cannot move it to Apple TV 2 or 3.  It is odd that you can't do what you want, but I'm not a lawyer ;)

i'm renting SD movies from iT so copyright issues are in the full control of AAPL on all AAPL devices
I don't know the legal agreements between Apple and movie studios, but with a rental you don't own the material so I suspect that is the difference.  With a purchase you're given some leeway that you don't have with a rental.
    MickCharles wrote:
It has functioned as described; rented iT movies on iP and played through ATV to Video Monitor on many occasions in the past - as recent as 8 days ago.
Your original post mentioned that purchases worked, not rentals.  Have you ever seen a rental stream from your i-device to Apple TV?  I wouldn't think so, given Apple's statement above.
    MickCharles wrote:
All other streaming functions from iP and iPh to ATV; music, photos, and home-made video function
These would not be subject to the same copyright issues as a movie.
You can try taking this up with Apple, and depending on who you communicate with (and your approach) may determine your success to get a refund.  Apple does state that you can't stream a movie from your device to ATV, but perhaps not clearly enough (which you might use to your advantage).

  • I have downloaded a tv series into itunes and the third episode won't play.  We have successfully watched the first two.  What is the problem?

I am having trouble viewing the third episode of a tv series that I have downloaded on Itunes.  Any suggestions?

It won't work, they are linked to your account and can only be played via iTunes on a computer, an iOS device or Apple TV. You might be able to get a cable to link your Mac to your TV so that you can play/mirror it through your TV e.g. if it's a Macbook with an HDMI socket and your TV also has an HDMI socket then you could try an HDMI to HDMI cable (Apple do them, and electrical stores should also have them) - I've used one to play iTunes TV programmes on my TV (though I don't think that I got sound through my TV, only my Mac).

  • Rented film on Mac won't play on ATV

Hi can someone help me pls. I have just brought ATV and I am having problems watching rented films from my Mac to ATV. I live on a boat so my broadband is slower than what you get in a house. I was hoping to go to my mums and download a few films each week on to my Mac so I can playback on to ATV. My problem is it's not showing on ATV my rented films. Please can someone help me out thanks.

Search the iTunes help files on the Apple support pages as I am sure there is lots of info about authorzing other computers.
But off the top of my head, one work around to this issue is to simply burn an audio CD on your PC with a playlist of your purchased songs or how ever many CDs you need to do it (CD-RW discs might be a good tool for this). You can then put those CDs into your Mac and import the tunes and now the "authorization" info/protection will have been stripped from them and you won't have that issue with them anymore.

  • Rented Movie on Mac won't play on Apple TV

This is about the 4th time I have tried to play a rented movie (through iTunes on my Mac Computer) to play on my Apple TV and had problems.  The last time, after quite a bit of troubleshooting, I finally got it to work.  Not so today.  I rented another movie tonight on my Mac and am trying to get it to play on my 3rd gen. Apple Tv.  No luck.  The wheel spun for 15 minutes. I unplugged everything, I did the recommended troubleshooting, no network problems, apple sharing is one, everyine is A-OK except the movie will not play through Apple TV.
This rental problem is a serious bug in Apple TV and it should be fixed.  Rentals should play seamlessly and smoothly but playing doesn't work at all in some cases, and only after tons of troubleshooting in other cases.  Why is this such a problem, Apple?  I feel like asking for a refund not only for the movie but for the Apple TV.  If I didn't hate my cable company more, I'd probably do that.
What do other people do when this happens?  I have read numerous threads on this here and none of the advice works for my situation. Maybe someone else has done the secret magic trick to get it to work.  Waiting to hear from the wizard.
And may I respectfully add, the Apple tech speak here that is used in trying to help people with this problem is amazing.  "Istumbler and netstumbler check for interference on the network. Also check for ISP throttling"  -- let me assure you Apple help, most people have no effing idea what that means.  Whatever happened to Apple products being EASY to use?

I'd report the problem to the iTunes Store.
Log in to the Store. Click on "Account" in your Quick Links. When you're in your Account information screen, go down to Purchase History and click "See all".
Find the item that is not playing properly. If you can't see "Report a Problem" next to the item, click the "Report a problem" button. Now click the "Report a Problem" link next to the item.

  • Rented video from iTunes won't play

I rented a movie and it keeps stopping at the same spot.  Help?

My problem was that I was renting from iTunes directly from my iPad, it was suggested to rent from my computer and then sync.  It solved the issue.  I had to re-rent the movie again though.

  • Network connection reset during download of a season. Now one episode won't work.

I bought a season of Entourage and during the download the "network connection was reset." Now one of the episodes won't play right, eg. there is green stuff on the screen during the part that works and it won't even play past about 8 minutes. Is there anything I can do to have this fixed?

I'd report the problem to the iTunes Store.

  • APPLE TV Great but TED talks won't play anymore

My wife and I have been thoroughly enjoying the TED talks. So much so we bought AppleTv (1st generation) for the kitchen just to watch them while we cook. Recently some of the newer episodes won't play. In fact they actually cause my AppleTV to lock up which is only resolved by unplugging the AppleTV and restarting.
    This is very frustrating.
If I open the files in Quictime and look at the specs the only difference I can see appears to be resolution specs: the old resolution was 850x480, where the newer talks are 853 or 854 x480. Is this what is screwing them up? I don't know...but I sure wish they'd fix the darn things.

Actually..I wasn't blaming Apple...apologies if it felt that way I didn't mean that. Of course, there was always a chance it DID have something to do with them.
But I will say if they're not conforming to Apple specs I would have expected either that Apple would have told them so on their end or, at the very least, they would like to hear from their customers there was an issue so they could pass it along and get them to shape up a bit.
that said..I have dropped them a line about this. But I believe on "attacking" on two fronts.
anyone can add any podcast to the library. the appletv gives access to the complete podcast library and not specifically just appletv compatible podcasts.
apple has no input into what people produce and make available.

  • Are the rest of the Colin Baker episodes of "Doctor Who" coming to iTunes?

They have every episode of his except for "Attack of the Cybermen" and "Revelation of the Daleks," and since he's my favorite Doctor I would really love to have all his episodes on my iTunes! Is there a reason those two story arcs aren't available? Is it some sort of rights thing? I can't say that seems likely as the DVDs of those two arcs are pretty common, but I'm more of an iTunes guy, now so if anyone has any information whether or not these last two remaining Classic Doctor Who stories from the sixth incarnation are coming to iTunes I'd be very happy to know when I can buy them!

Apple can only sell content that they have the rights to sell - unless the rights-holders pass those two stories to Apple and grant Apple a license to sell them in your country then Apple won't be able to sell them there. If/when that might happen we won't know - you can try requesting that they be added, but it needs the rights-holders to agree : http://www.apple.com/feedback/itunes.html

  • HT1657 I rented a movie from Itunes and it won't play on my macbook

I rented a movie and it won't play...it shows that time has elapsed on the movie but it is just a blank white screen.

If you've downloaded it on the iPad then it should be in the Videos app. If it's not in there then have you got a film age rating set in Settings > General > Restrictions that is hiding it ?
