My research and findings about SAP communities

Hi my name is Badr Bijjou, and I am a MBA student.
I am currently conducting research about SAP communities, this is an amazing time for the Enterprise and I’m having a fantastic time collecting data and interacting with people around this topic.  If you are interested in what I have learned so far head over and take a look ( [www.bijjou.de|http://www.bijjou.de] ). If you want feel free to add your input as well, as I collect more and more data I plan to share my results, so others can learn from it as well – first I’ll have to finish my thesis though
Some of the more interesting things I’ve learned so far are from a small SAP community:
SAP community members share valuable information with others, even if they know that there might be competitors. This is quite interesting. Is the SAP community an area free from thoughts about competition?
as well as this little interesting bit of information,
SAP community members have high trust in the SAP brand and fun using it, an aspect which is in my opinion in contrast to the nature and complexity.
Any thoughts on either of those?
Cheers
Badr

It is the regular case, that the most SAP community members are working for different companies.
These companies might have several intercorporate relationships e.g. some are partners, competitors, buyer -seller relationship etc. . (who knows)
We know that business processes are critical to corporate success, thats why SAP has a good business model :-). So there is a high need in the market for customized SAP solutions. The best solutions require good knowledge. Knowledge is shared in this community for free. Notice: There are some companies who might earn money, for knowledge / information waht you are sharing here.
Example: If you are an SAP consultant you might be interested to get a lot of orders from customers to design and implement a SAP solution. You competitive advantage and unique selling proposition / arguments towards the customer is your knowledge. In regular cases, there more SAP consultants out there. So you are in competition in the regular market (outside the community). But within the community you share your knowledge...
I hope could describe the intend behind...

  • Advantage and disadvantages of SAP IDM & Microsoft Identity management Tool

    Hi Folks,
I am looking some points on SAP IDM and Microsoft tool for Identity Management. I am looking below mention points.
    1. Difference in the feature and prize.
    2. Limitation
    3. Solution architecture for both
    Relevant answers will be rewarded.
    Regards,
    Akshay Shail

    Hi,
I can add some points about SAP NW IdM. Regarding your question about the prize: If you only connect SAP systems (it can handle all types of SAP ABAP and SAP Java Systems) they don't charge you extra, because it's already in the NetWeaver license. Furthermore, if you use the SAP Central User Administration: It isn't further developed and will be replaced by SAP NW IdM.
The systems you mentioned can be connected, I think these are basics for everey IdM solution. HR interation is possible with SAP IdM, don't know about the other solution in this point.
There are some whitepapers and presentations about SAP NW IdM: https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/nw-identitymanagement?rid=/webcontent/uuid/f0b68fb1-d8af-2a10-2a8e-cc431c15bb39&anchor=section2.
Nevertheless, your question about limitations and solution architecture probably needs a PoC if you want to answer them in deep.
    Best regards,
    Nils

    •     Problem 1.2: In DOS, startsap command cannot start SAP R/3.
    •     Problem 1.3: Oracle 9i database automatically shutdown by itself.
    •     Problem 1.4: There is very low disk storage left (say less than 50MB) in the hard disk where Oracle 9i database is installed in the server.
Problem 2: Problems in User Maintenance and Security of the SAP R/3 System
    •     Problem 2.1: Super user account password was lost (e.g. SAP* password was lost)
    •     Problem 2.2: Super users DDIC and SAP* were dropped in table usr02 in Oracle.
    •     Problem 2.3: Some users have been locked or deleted by an ABAP programmer who has been granted with almost superuser profiles.  For example, an ABAP programmer has been granted a profile of SAP_ALL and SAP_NEW but the system administrator would like to restrict all programmers form using SU01, SU02, SM01, so that no programmers can maintain other user's accounts.
Problem 3: Problems in the configuration of client copy
    •     Problem 3.1: A copied client from the Client 000 cannot be customized.
    •     Problem 3.2: No sample data in IDES after a successful client copy.

    •     Problem 6.3: A user complained that his/her password was correct but he/she could not lock on the client because it was locked.

    Problem 2
2.1  If user account of the sap* is lost u can retrive by loging into os level as sidadm type this command
    DELETE  SAP<sid>.USR02 where BNAME='SAP*' AND MANDT=100
This 100 is the client in which u want to delete the sap*

  • What does a BI Developer need to know about SAP tables and why?

    Hi,
    i.
As a BI Developer, to what extent do you need to know about SAP tables?
e.g. if you work mainly in the functional areas LO and FI
    ii.
For example, I know that in Finance, GL relates to the tables BSEG and BKPF.
And if it is important to know about them, then which other tables need to be known and for what reasons?
e.g. do I need to know all these tables: http://www.erpgenie.com/sap/abap/tables_fi.htm
    iii.
I thought as a BI Developer, knowing that a particular datasource, e.g. 0FI_GL_4 contains line items is enough and you replicate it to BW and work with it. Why is there the need to know the tables from which this datasource gets is data?
iv. What is the main difference between the FI datasources and the LO datasource?
    Thanks.

Yes, one main difference is There is no setup table concept for FI DataSource*

    Ashok,
Hi! Excellent that you are take the next steps in your education and applying them to work experiences.
The best approach in taking SAP-related courses is to contact the university and confirm their approach. View SAP UA member schools here - http://uaaroundtheworld.informatik.tu-muenchen.de/overview(bD1lbiZjPTEwMQ==)/start.htm
...and assess the ones in the UK which does include Brunel.
Ask if they provide SAP-related curricula (or supplements) and hands on SAP software in this course or others that you can take in your program.

I think such things are good initiatives and I maintained a similar "box of tricks" once which I hardly ever use now, so I would also like to be honest with you...
You will need to put a lot more effort into your xls spreadsheet to start with before this framework and resource center (one of many!) will attract additional contributors to make it a central point of contact on the subject of SAP security. In fact this sounds like marketing jargon, and advertising is against the forum rules here on SDN.
    > It will be written in a manner which anyone new to SAP can take it and use it for SAP Security Assessment.
In my opinion, anyone new in SAP Security should first take a training course and get hold of an IDES system to practice on.
I think you should take a thorough look at some of the other resources available already before deciding how to embark on this task.
You certainly wouldn't want it to be redundant and (release dependently) obsolete, and therefore incorrect even, by the time you finish it.
Your xls spreadsheet in it's current form does not look like a good strategy to me...
    Just being honest,
    Julius

  • Information about SAP PPM needed

    Dear Sir or Madam,
my name is Jennifer Fassbender and I am working in the “Project Management Office” (PMO) of the research and development department (R&D) of ERCO. Our group serves as a cut surface in between the R&D and to other departments all over the company. Our team is in charge of the PLP (product launch process) which is one the leading processes at ERCO.
Currently we are using the SAP PS in our ERP system to plan and control our product development projects which belong to the PLP. We are working on a lot of different projects simultaneously, which makes a multi-project management necessary. Therefore we are thinking about implementing SAP PPM.
In addition to my job I am studying industrial engineering in part time at the University of Applied Sciences in Hagen. Right now I am writing my bachelor’s thesis. To combine study and job, the content and aim of this thesis will be something like “Development of an operational scenario to use the tool SAP PPM regarding to the design of a multi-project management within the R&D department of the ERCO GmbH”.
And this is the reason I am writing to you. I need a lot of information about SAP PPM.
Could you please be so kind and help me with the following questions:
Can you describe the (biggest) difference between SAP PS and SAP PPM?
What might be the mayor reason to implement SAP PPM?
What are the main use cases for SAP PPM?
Are there difficulties to run SAP PS together with SAP PPM?
Can you send me a detailed cost plan or license model?
Thank you so much in advance for your help!
    Kind regards
    Jennifer Fassbender

    Hi Jennifer,
    Answering to your questions-
Can you describe the (biggest) difference between SAP PS and SAP PPM?
In PPM, there are 2 areas, PPM-Portfolio Management and PPM Project Management. SAP PS can be compared with PPM-Project Management.
PPM-Proj, Mgmt. is mainly used for certain types of projects like Consulting, development & IT projects and User interface(UI) is very simple and user-friendly in PPM.
PS can be used in any type of projects but its full capabilities are used in capital Investment, overhead costs & customer projects. And moreover SAP PS has very good tight integration with all modules of SAP.
Overall both has it's own pros and cons. More details can be found the below links.
Which is the difference between SAP PPM & SAP PS?
    2. What might be the mayor reason to implement SAP PPM?
    3. What are the main use cases for SAP PPM?
Major reason could be cross-project resource planning, portfolio management for better financial & capacity planning across projects etc.,
    4. Are there difficulties to run SAP PS together with SAP PPM?
By standard, SAP PPM is having integration with SAP PS. Under Portfolio management we can use any of the project managements tools(PPM-Project management, SAP PS & MS Project) for detailing the project & resource planning.
    5. Can you send me a detailed cost plan or license model?
Licensing terms varies for different customers, so it is better to contact your local SAP accounts manager for details.
    Hope this helps.
    Regards,
    Ravi

  • Compare creation of Datasources and JMS Queues : SAP vs (Weblogic/Websphere

I am used to creating JDBC Datasources and JMS Queues on Weblogic/Websphere thru their Admin applications.
Can someone compare/contrast that process to that on SAP's netweaver ( either using NWA or Visual Administrator).
    Thanks

    Hi Parag,
For the process of creating JDBC datasources and JMS resources @ SAP NetWeaver you can refer to the documents here on SDN and help.sap.com, and compare that process for yourself, thus not being influenced by others' biased or unbiased opinions.
For NetWeaver 04 and 04s these would be:

    3.1 - If you client copy from client 000, you need to go to SCC4 and set the client to customizing chnages allowed;
3.2 - If you do a client copy from client 800 (the one that SAP delivers data in) you should have data. Client 000 is empty (almost).
3.3 - You should be able to change the password of SAP* PASS user.
I am not sure which version you are dealing with, but ERP2004 and ERP2005 allow you to change the password suring installation.
Also, there is a parameter that can be maintained that allows you to log on as SAP*. If you set as not available, no one can log on.
    Hope it helps,

  • [Solved] A note and question about slow hostname lookups

I reinstalled Arch recently and the first thing I noticed was slow resolve times on hostname lookups.  This didn't happen on all webpages but did on about 50% of them.  This also happened on downloads from pacman %100 percent of the time.  I have done a good bit of research and most of the points led to nssswich.  One website said to try using this in nsswitch.conf:
    hosts: files[NOTFOUND=continue UNAVAIL=continue] dns [NOTFOUND=continue UNAVAIL=continue TRYAGAIN=return] nis
With this it appears (after about 20 minutes of testing) that firefox lookups are again behaving normal again.  However, pacman is still having slow lookups (about 30 seconds for each package).  Does anyone know what could be the problem here.  I dont' know much about nsswitch or how it could be the problem.  Is there a way to help return pacman to regular lookup times?
