My Safari is showing horizontal lines once in a while

I have a 15" MacBook Pro that's just over a year old. I started seeing horizontal lines in my safari window for a couple of months now. I have attached a screenshot below. Can anyone tell me what is causing this to happen? At first, I was seeing the very top of my Safari window flickering with thin colored lines. Now I am seeing what's attached below, probably once a day.
I want to know if something is wrong with my graphics card (which I don't think it is because it's only happening in Safari) or if something is wrong with my Safari.
Thanks!

Only happens in Safari ... I would try these steps:
go to Safari (in the menu bar), and select Reset Safari...
next, Safari / Preferences / Extensions and turn off the extensions.

Hi Guys, my iphone 4 showing bad retina display and showing horizontal lines? What could be the problem???

Could be that your screen is damaged or dying.  Only way to know is to bring the phone to Apple for evaluation.

  • HP LaserJet 3330 shows horizontal lines exactly every 1.5" when printing a completely white page

HP LaserJet 3330 shows seven or eight  about 3.5" long cloudy horizontal lines spaced exactly every 1.5" even when printing a completely white page. This occurs also when copying and faxing.
There are also 2 very thin vertical lines running down the whole page approx. in the middle. They are exactly 1" apart.
However, a scan of a white page viewed on my computer (not printed) is completely clean.
Windows 7. No changes or upgrades.

Propbably the toner cartridge if they are 1.48" apart it could be the developing cylinder or the charging roller that are both in the toner cartridge. So a good guess if you replace the toner cartridge, the problem will go away. The vertical lines could also be part of this issue.

  • Horizontal Lines in a fritz

My PB G4 has been fritzing horizontal lines intermittently. Sometimes the computer is fine, and then it starts. The lines are all over the screen, but the desktop/windows are still in the background. Moving the screen will affect the behaviour, making it better or worse. It will not do this on bootup until the blue screen appears, but usually not until the login window shows up. The lines don't show up on a sceen capture. Sometimes I can continue working, but it will usually "freeze", that is to say that the computer is unresponsive except for trackpad movement. I can hold the power button to shut off or use the keyboard force restart.
    Help.

    Jon,
I know exactly where you are coming from with this one. My Ti book started to show horizontal lines (flickering) mid last year - after having the machine for only 6 months. Initially I thought it was a software problem, as I had lent the machine to a relative, and when I got it back it kept flickering after using for a while (I don't really trust him with it, as he is a Wintel fellow... anyway), so I reinstalled the OS from scratch. No luck it still continued. I had had enough at this point, and took it into my local Apple Centre (as they are called here in Australia) for a fix session. They couldn't replicate the lines after using the book for several days, so I went back in to pick it up.
The lines have continued ever since.
I have worked out what the problem is: When the machine heats up and metal components expand, pressure is applied on the connection from the logic board, resulting in problems on the display. The lines can be produced when the machine warms up, and the machine itself bends slightly. If I crank up the DVD, hard drive, have several things taxing the OS and processor, then do something like play Quake, the resulting heat brings on the lines. If the machine is flexed in my hands, the lines stop for a while... then come back. It p!sses me off when this happens, especially when I am using the machine at work and in presentations, etc.
I recently took the machine into the Apple Centre and gave them as much detail as possible, in anticipation of a repair, but again, they couldn't replicate it. It took me 5 minutes in the foyer of the shop to show them. "Oh it's obviously a logic board, or logic board connection problem", no **** Sherlock, just like I said. They can order one in, but I have to leave my book there until it arrives... huh? I don't think they like looking like idiots.
I (luckily) have extended warranty (an education purchase perk!), so the cost thing is not a concern for me.
All in all, the problems I (and many other Ti owners) have had are (as far as I believe) very similar to the iBook logic board problem. So, why is Apple not doing anything about it?
Good luck Jon with your problem.

  • Horizontal line safari

Over the weekend my safari browser started drawing a horizontal line about 5 spaces up from the bottom edge.  Other apps don't have this line appearing on the screen.  iOS 6.1.2 is my current rev level.....this is not a show stopper but annoying.  Has anyone else have this extra line drawn at the bottom segment of the screen?

    Michele,
I know this was mostly answered, but I am there with you. It's a very frustrating problem and you are not alone.
Merging the keyboard and splitting it again, as well as hard closing Safari, seemd to fix it, if only temporarily.
Slightly lifting the split keyboard from the bottom seems to completely solve this SEVERELY annoying and temper tantrum inducing problem. It has taken me more time than I'd like to admit to fix this, and I have my doubts that it will work permanently as well.
But anything that MIGHT work is better than dealing with this issue.
It may seem minor to some, but for a lot of us, it is very distracting and annoying.
I keep hoping with each and every update that it's fixed, and am disappointed each and every update.

  • Horizontal lines mostly in Safari

I found an archived post dating back to March 2008 with my exact issue. Here's a link to that post, which contains a picture of my exact problem. His was the Macbook Pro, but mine is imac intel (see below for the details of my machine).
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1468905&tstart=
I'm trying not to be too upset due to the fact that my year warranty just ended in early December 2008 and I didn't purchase Applecare. Oh well, live and learn.
I'm just so surprised at all the issues I've been reading about in here. I really thought I was getting a great machine. My first mac.

Have you tried installing Fan Control?
    http://www.derman.com/Download/Special/iMacFanControl.html
I was finding the same problems. Horizontal lines "frozen" into safari, itunes, and then eventually migrating to my destop and eventually whole sections of my desktop.
I tried everything to ensure I wasn't dealing with a bug (including a full wipe and rebuild of my mac (it had been a few years). So I wanted to be absolutely certain I didn't have a driver/software bug somewhere. And within about 4 hours of a freshly updated Leopard install, the lines showed up again.
I installed Fan Control, and I immediately heard the fan increase speed, and the next thing I noticed... no more funny lines. Guess my video card (NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT) is not liking the heat in there.
    Hope this helps.

  • I have an iphone 4 and i'm having lot of problems: my back camera is blurred although my front camera is fine and working normal. my biggest problem is that the screen is showing colored horizontal lines

I have an iphone 4 and i'm having lot of problems:
_ my back camera is blurred although my front camera is fine and working normally
_ my biggest problem is that the screen is showing colored horizontal lines(as perhaps electrical problems). The phone did fell and I already changed its back and front but everything was normal until these problems appeared suddenly
Please can somebody help me to solve it and tell me what are the reasons?
    Thx

you can try turning it off and on again, but i doubt that's gonna work, that sounds like more of a hardware issue. Your best bet may be to contact apple and seek service or replacement

  • Pictures taken with my 1D Mark IV show a blue horizontal line at the bottom from ISO 400 onwards.

Pictures taken with my 1D Mark IV show a blue horizontal line at the bottom from ISO 400 onwards. So far nobody has been able tot tell me the cause of this problem. The body is still quite new (15000 pics taken).

I agree that it looks like a column of photosites is not working.  But... I'm curious as to why this would only happen at ISO 400 or above.
The sensor is covered with photosites -- they are monochrome.   On top of the photosites is the "bayer mask".  The mask is a checkboard pattern of red, green, and blue "lenses" which makes the photosite beneath only sensitive to that particular color.  They are group in clusters of 4 photosites in a 2x2 matrix.  Two of the four squares (in opposing corners) are green.  One corner is red.  One corner is blue.  If you were to lose a column which happens to be along the red/green column (as opposed to the green/blue) then you'd lose red sensitive and half the green sensitivity in that column.  The result would be that this column is flanked by two "working" columns which are full of green/blue photosites... hence the teal blue look.
I do not know if this will work for you, but oddly... you can actually sometimes "clear" stuck pixels (but usually this is an indvidiual stuck pixel... not a whole column of them) by putting the camera into manual sensor cleaning mode (and you may have to do this 2 or three times).  While the normal point of the self-cleaning mode is to flip up the reflex mirror and open the shutter so that you can inspect and clean the sensor (really the front-most filter because you can't actually touch the real sensor), it also neutralizes the charge on the sensor (or so I've read).  This charging and discharging of the sensor a few times can often get "stuck" pixels to start working again.  BUT AGAIN... I've only ever seen this used on individual stuck pixels... never a whole row.

  • Horizontal lines in iTunes TV Shows

I recently bought a few seasons of Adventure Time (HD) on the itunes store. I've been noticing a kind of weird problem in all of the episodes. On both my Macbook Pro and my iPad, when I watch these episodes, there are horizontal lines that are prominent in certain colors. You can almost always see them in the background if you look really closely, but sometimes a character or something will come on to the screen, and these lines will be really obvious.
I would include a picture, but since it's copywrited, I can't take a screenshot of the show from iTunes.
Does anyone know what these lines are? They don't seem to be in the HD version of the show on my DVR.

I've been having the same issue on my system. 2009 iMac 24", 3.06 core 2 duo, 4gb 1066 ram, nvidia gt130 512mb, running 10.5.7. it's not just in itunes; i see tearing in online videos (esp. netflix instant viewer), when switching Spaces, and even when scrolling through menus. in a game of mine, tearing was horrible until i turned on v-sync. anyone know if there's something that can work system-wide?

  • Black horizontal line ipad mini Safari

New iPad mini appears to be having problems already.  While using Safari in some websites, a fairly thin black horizontal line will appear typically in the middle of the page.  It usually gravitates towards the spot where you try to read.  Thin enough to kind of underline text for easier reading but big enough to be a nuisance.  Is this a feature for easier reading in Safari or a bug.
    Please help,

My iPad ia showing a very thin red horizontal line... Wyatt could it be? What should I do? Please help guys!
    Tks!

You can try giving it a reset. HOld down the sleep and home keys, past when you see the red power down slider and until you see the silver apple. See if the reboot helps.
If not you should make an appointment at your local apple store and have them look at it. If something is wrong with the iPad's version of the video card, that's beyond a user fix.
