My safari no longer works on my mac desktop
Safari No longer wroeks. At first it would open up but not open any websites, now it won't even open up.

IMessage no longer working on my mac desktop
I have always used Messages on my desktop, iPad, and iPhone.
Since my last upgrade to 10.10.2 I can no longer use Messages on my DESKTOP.
All of my other devices are working fine.
1. Via my phone settings my DESKTOP does not show display as an option for forwarding, only my iPad and iPad mini appear in the list.
2. I have signed out of Messages completely on EVERY device and plugged them into my desktop and synced them.
3. I have signed back in, all devices working EXCEPT my DESKTOP; which allows me to send out, the message says 'delivered' but no one is getting the message. I cannot receive messages although my account is listed as active.
3. FaceTime dials out and keeps ringing, but anyone trying to answer the call gets a 'hang up' on their end.
I have reset my wifi. Same.
Every device I own is working EXCEPT THE DESKTOP. (caps because I have read answers to desktop questions actually using iPhone and iPad setting solutions as though no one is really reading the question being asked).

Re: Continuity, Handoff, Instant Hotspot and iMessage stop working
It should be Free although you may need to speak to a Level two person or Higher as the Level one people are Script Led and try to fit everything in to AppleCare or payment for Software or Hardware issues.

Safari is not working on the Mac. Internet is fine. mail, App Store etc all working and connecting to Internet fine. Done the latest software update, still not working. When selecting a web address from bookmarks or typing in search bar, partial blue bar only and coloured wheel appears.
From the Safari menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences ▹ Extensions
Turn all extensions OFF and test. If the problem is resolved, turn extensions back ON and then disable them one or a few at a time until you find the culprit.
If you wish, you may be able to salvage the malfunctioning extension by uninstalling and reinstalling it. That will revert its settings to the defaults.
If extensions aren't causing the problem, see below.

I am considering purchasing a new Mac desktop. I have, at present, a Liteon 851S ext CD/DVD write and a Maxtor 3200 USB ext hard drive. Will these work with a Mac desktop? My local Apple store could not answer my question.Happy New year to all.
Yes the Mac can read that drive but you would need to Copy the data off of it to the Mac as apposed to Move, which implies Deleting them from the drive as they were transferred from the external to the Mac. Since the Mac can Not Write to NTFS drives it can't Delete anything as that is really a Write operation, IE Making changes to the NTFS formatted drive.
Once you have that Data on Both your New Mac and you Older Windows PC you can format that drive to work on both system.
If you want to and plan on doing that post back and I'll explane how, it is simple but should be done on a Windows PC.
If you only plan on using it on the Mac from now on that is fairly simple also and is done on the Mac, Once you have the files from it stored on the Mac.
Yes you could burn those photos to DVD but that is just a waste of DVDs, you don't need to. -
"Activity window" in Safari no longer works to download YouTube videos. Why not? Workaround?
For years I have used Apple's recommended standard technique whenever I wanted to download a Flash video embedded in a YouTube page to my hard drive:
- Open a YouTube page and click on the video's "play" button to get it started;
- Press command-option-A to then open up Safari's "Activity Window" which lists all the components of the page;
- Find on the list the component for the loading Flash video, which is usually much larger (measured in MB rather than KB) than all the other components, and also is usually still in the process of loading, so it's easy to spot;
- Double-click the component's name on the list in the Activity Window, and voila, the video downloads to my hard drive.
This "trick" is described everywhere as THE standard way to download YouTube videos (and similar page components); and I have used it successfully for many years.
HOWEVER, sometime very recently (not sure when, exactly -- a few weeks or months ago) YouTube has changed the way its pages are coded, so that this technique no longer works. When I open the Activity Window, instead of seeing one large loading video file that's easily identifiable, I see a whole series of large files, all exactly 1.7mb big (no matter how large the file size of the actual video in question is), and they constantly increase in number -- at first there are two such files, but over the seconds and minutes more and more appear. Furthermore, many files with no named size are constantly loading and then disappearing. And here's the whole point: I've tried double-clicking on ALL of these files, dozens of ways on dozens of YouTube pages, and none of the are the video file I seek and none of them cause the file to download to my hard drive.
If I click on one the mysterious 1.7mb components, I indeed get a ".flv" downloaded to my hard drive, but it's not actually a Flash video; clicking on its downloaded file icon just brings up a blank box or an error message saying that it's not really a video file at all. I think it's some sort of "decoy" file or something to do with streaming Flash code.
To see what I mean, just go to YouTube, load any random video page, and then open Safari's Activity WIndow and try to download the video that way.
This happens on an iMac running Safari 5.1 on OSX 10.6.8, and also on a MacBook Pro running Safari 5.0.2 on OSX 10.6.5, and on a few other new-ish Macs I tested it out on, but failed to note their version numbers.
I'm presuming that this problem is not specific to my computer, but is caused by the way that YouTube altered the background code for their pages. I don't know if the glitch is an intentional attempt by YouTube to prevent downloads, or if it is an accidental "bug" of the new code. Either way:
How can I fix the problem? Is there some other lesser-known built-in way for Safari/Mac to download the new kind of YouTube videos? Or is there some reliable freeware or shareware or plug-in or extension or whatever for Safari that would enable YouTube downloading?
I tried a freeware program called "Evom" that was highly touted, but it too was thwarted by the new YouTube code and failed to extract any videos from the YouTube page, even though that's what the application was designed to do.
As a side note, I will say that I also have (though rarely use) FireFox for Mac, and the "Unplug" plug-in installed on it, and that ALSO "broke" recently and no longer has the capacity to recognize or download YouTube videos, even though previously it worked fine. This is why I think the issue is not specific to my set-up or computer, but is due to a change in YouTube's underlying code.)
Any help with an explanation, solution or workaround would be much appreciated (by me and by millions of others who I assume are facing the same problem!).Carolyn:

Even after trashing the files and restarting and everything else, the Activity Window and YouTube behave exactly as they did before.
(I had actually previously tried something very similar to your recommendation, and it didn't have any effect then either.)

The only way to restore OS X is to startup your Mac while holding down the Command + R keys so you can access the built in utilities in OS X Recovery
Try iPhoto and the DVD Player app after you restore OS X. -
Since I updated to 6.0, the drop down menus on the web pages I use in Safari on my iphone 4 are no longer working. The drop down appears and then quickly disappears so that you can't select anything. The current release supports the white-space property for a text area and it is possible that the website uses white-space: pre instead of white-space: pre-wrap.
The former will prevent Firefox from wrapping the text.
You can check that in the Inspector via the right-click context menu.

My Sony CR-10 no longer works with my Mac
After upgrading my Mac to 10.7, my Sony printer drivers no longer work.
Had the same problem with my Kingston FCR-HS3 Cardreader (FW 0123, bought Aug. 2012) when using it on my Macbook Pro Retina 2012 with MacOS Mavericks 10.9.1 on the USB 3.0 port. Trying it on my MacPro Early 2008 with MacOS Mavericks 10.9.1 on USB 2.0 port everything was okay.
When trying to update the firmware of my cardreader to version 0131 (on a Windows 8 notebook) which is only available for Windows, I had an error several times and could not update. After changing to another USB-Port on this notebook everything went okay.
Now my cardreader is working fine and I even notice a rise in transfer speed from 100 (before) to 120 MB/s when using fast CF-cards (600x or 1000x). -
Safari No Longer Works After Installation
I recently installed Mac OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.3. and then downloaded the update to 10.6.6. However, ever since installing Snow Leopard my Safari doesn't work. Each time I click on Safari it gives me the following message: You can't use this version of the application Safari with this version of Mac OS X You have Safari 5.0.3. What should I do in this case? I thought as part of updating to Snow Leopard my Safari should have also updated along with everything else??? Currently I am only able to access the Internet via Firefox, but my main preference is using Safari. Thanks!

It should have done, yes.
Are you opening Safari from the /Applications/ folder, rather than the dock ? - if not, try that.
If that doesn't work either, select the safari app that's in /Applications/ & do Finder-File-Get Info to see the version number shown. What is it ?
Or just try the Safari 5.0.3 installer direct from http://www.apple.com/safari/download/ which should update the Safari in Applications, which is the place to keep Safari. -

You need to upgrade the computer's OS or switch browsers.
To upgrade, open the Mac App Store and try downloading Mavericks. If you get told it's incompatible, choose About this Mac from the Apple menu, check if the computer has at least a Xeon or Core 2 Duo(not Core Duo) CPU and 2GB of RAM, and if it does, click here and order a download code for Lion 10.7.
Back up your data and check your applications for compatibility before upgrading. In particular, Mac OS X 10.7 and newer don't support PowerPC programs such as versions of Microsoft Office prior to 2008.

I downloaded the newest iOS 7.1 and safari no longer works on ipad2
I postponed downloading the newest iOS 7.1 for my ipad2 because it seems whenever I update the software something inevitably crashes.
I went ahead and downloaded iOS 7.1 and now Safari does not work at all. I've had to breakdown and use google chrome instead.
Someone please help!I tried that and a reset and still i cannot get my Safari to work. I open safari and it opens as a blank. pressing on any of the buttons or items in the application and after a while poof... it disappears and I am back to the home screen! I have an Ipad mini and since all the links I click open Safari , my ipad is now usless in that regard.
I cant change to another browser as a default browser to open the links.

Safari no longer works on new iPad Mini
Recently purchased the iPad Mini. After a few days of use, Safari no longer connects. Instructions tell me to log in to Safari on another computer, connect via cable, and go to Advanced Preferences in Develop Menu. Can't find either.
Interesting error message. I don't have an iPad Mini but here are some suggestions to try:
Double click the home button. Find Safari in the list of icons at the bottom. Put your finger on it until it wiggles and gets a "-" sign on it. touch the "-" sign. Click the home button twice. This will close Safari, which might fix it when you start Safari back up again.
Go to Settings/Safari. Clear History. Clear Cookies and Data.
Turn off your iPad (hold the power button until the slider appears then slide it off) then turn it back on again.
Reset your iPad.
