hi guys I clicked on a bad link, and my safari stopped working,
when I click on safari, appears a phrase,
        (  SAFARI QUIT UNEXPECTEDLY )
CLICK REOPEN TO OPEN THE APPLICATION AGAIN, THIS  REPORT WILL BE SENT TO APPLE AUTOMATICALLY..
when I press the ok or reopen, the screen is frozen and Safari does not open.
please can anyone help me please?   thanks....

Malware or adware may be the culprit.
If you have a backup browser installed, download and run the AdMedic adware / malware removal tool here >  AdwareMedic
Easy and only takes a minute or two.
If you can't download AdwareMedic, follow the instructions here >  Remove unwanted adware that displays pop-up ads and graphics on your Mac - Apple Support

Sounds like a bogus pop up. In any case power down your Mac, your modem, your router. Then power back up in 1 minute sequence; modem, router, Mac.

  • Swipes in Safari stop working

When using Safari in Mavericks, I can scroll up and down as usual with the 2-finger gestures, but if I try to do a 2-finger "back" swipe to go to the previous page that page freezes (can't scroll at all, no links respond and if try to click on the back/forward button, the page title and URL changes, but the page is still frozen as it was).  I can go to another tab and navigate with the arrow keys, but all trackpad gesturing within Safari stops working.  When I quit and relaunch Safari, all is back to usual.  I deleted all Safari extensions, deleted all preference files, deactivated/reactivated the gesture in System Preferences and still acts the same. Any thoughts?

ok guys i found a solution. Resetting the PRAM seems to have worked here and the 2 finger swipe is just fine now.
to reset the PRAM do the followings:
    Shut down your Mac.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.

after an update safari stopped working any ideas on how to fix this?

Use another browser to install Safari again.
You can download Firefox for the Mac, place the download on a USB thumb drive stick it into the Mac and copy it, run the installer.
Once FF is on, download a new copy of Safari from Apple's site.

upgraded my macbook pro 2012 to osx mavericks and since then I'm having troubles like: can't open mail or maps. recently if I'm trying to fill a info box from a web site safari stops working.

Try backing up your data and upgrading to 10.9.2.

  • Why does my safari stops working every time I try to swipe back to previous page

My safari stops working every time I try to swipe (multitouch) back to previous page? There's no spinning beach ball or anything, but the page just stops responding altogether. If I close the non-responding page fast enough the other pages remain fine, but if I just leave the non-reponding page as it is the entire app become non-reponsive and need to be forced quite. I'm running OS X 10.9.1 on a late 2012 MacBook Pro Ret. Anyone having the same prob?

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you boot, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, reboot as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of Steps 1 and 2.

  • HT5139 my safari stopped worked so deleted it thinking i would be able to re-download...now cant seem to download it

my safari stopped worked so deleted it thinking i would be able to redownload...
how do i download it ?

As you've discovered, deleting random hunks of an operating system to fix problems doesn't usually work all that well.  First, get Time Machine or some other backup tool going, as that'll be your recovery path should there be an error during the recovery.  In the unlikely event something (else) goes wrong with the recovery here (whether some other corruption or a failed reinstall or otherwise), you don't want to lose your data.
In addition to the paths Strontium90 mentions, you can sometimes recovery Safari from an external copy of the same version of OS X; from another Mac running an identical version of OS X, or from a copy of Safari stored elsewhere.  One of those other copies of Safari can be stored in the recovery partition, if your version of OS X is new enough to boot into that.  (That's basically the reinstall path.)

Safari stopped working on my iTouch. How do I reset the app?

  • My history function of safari stopped working.

my history function of safari stopped working since when I tried to turn on wifi in johnlewis store this afternoon. last 2dayes of history has been removed and the bars which you can see on top and bottom of the screen when you use Internet turn to black as well.
    what's wrong?

Sounds like Private Browsing has been enabled.  If you don't want this, go to:
Settings/ Safari/ Private Browsing and turn it OFF
Then you'll accrue history of what you've browsed, though any history prior to Private Browsing is gone.

I have ipad 2. Safari stopped working. Screen appears with light gray cover and is frozen. Some websites show errors when debug is on.
But how actually can I debug or fix it? Thank you.

    Here are a couple suggestions:
    1.  Go into Settings > Safari and Clear Cookies Clear Cache
    2.  Fully close Safari:  from your home screen, double tap your home button and the most recently used Apps will show up.  Hold your finger on the Safari App until all Apps start jiggling.  You'll see a minus sign on the upper left side of Safari.  Touch the minus and Safari will fully close.  Touch your home button again to stop apps from jiggline, then touch your home button again to return to your home page.
    3.  Reboot your iPad:  Press and hold BOTH the power and home buttons at the SAME time for at least 10 seconds (ignore the red slider) until the Apple Logo appears, then let go of both buttons and your iPad will restart, but no data or settings will be lost.
After iPad comes back up, try Safari again, and you should be good to go.

  • Safari stops working.  Mail won't work with Safari running.  Now iTunes can't find my phone.  If I restart and do one thing at a time it helps but still not reliable.  All software on my iMac is up to date.

I have a new iMac and iPhone 4.0.  All software is up to date and I have installed the free beta version of Mountain Lion which let me use iChat on my computer.  Safari intermittently stops working.  Mail won't access my mailboxes if Safari is running.  Now iTunes won't find my iPhone when it's locked and in a dock charging.  If I restart I can do 1 thing at a time, but I can't have Safari running and use Mail.  I've emptied my cache, checked my passwords.  It's none of that.  By process of elimination, there is some kind of conflict between using multiple applications on the Internet at the same time.  Sometimes after I've gone to several Internet sites Safari will stop working properly even though all other applications have been "quit".

Oops. You installed the beta Mountain Lion on your main hard disk? Usually most people install it on a secondary or external hard drive. Your situation should actually be posted on the Developer web site for Moutnain Lion and not here. All I can suggest here is to run repair permissions and restart. Sorry.

  • Safari stops working

This past week safari has consistently stopped working after loading only a few pages. The only way to resolve it is to restart safari - but then it dies again after browsing a few sites. I have switched to Firefox in the meantime. I prefer safari so if anyone has a solution please let me know.
    Thanks
(Note: I have already, cleared the cache, deleted the icons folder and plist)

Have you tried uninstalling, downloading the complete
new version, and reinstalling safari? Sometimes that
    can help out.
I have been noticing a similar thing with my
safari... it starts eating up processor power after
it has been running a while and needs to be closed
and reopened. But so far hasn't really interfered as
it is only needing to be done every couple of days.
I've done all the recent upgrades (now on 10.4.5). Don't they each update Safari? Is the whole app available for download? For me Safari is by far the greatest disappointment in the latest series of upgrades. When it DOES work quickly, it's delicious. But why are SO many of us having SO much trouble with Safari loading pages---if it will even open them?
