  • My Safari won't load PDF's

For months now my Safari won't load pdf's. They just don't show up. I saw an answer in this community to delete a certain plug in. I looked for that and I didn't have that plug in. Any other suggestions to help get this figured out would be splendid.

    Hi...
Make sure you are looking in the correct Library. There are two. One is root, one is your Home folder.
    Quit Safari.
Open a Finder window. Select MacintoshHD in the Sidebar on the left then open the Library folder then the Internet Plug-Ins folder.
If you see this file:  Adobe PDF Browser plug-in
    Move it to the Trash.
    Relaunch Safari.
Tip.. if you are given instructions to go to the root library you'll see this:   /Library
For your home folder you'll see this:   ~/Library
The (Tilde) character before the forward slash denotes the Home folder.

  • Safari won't display pdf in browser

    Posted before in wrong forum.
I am really sorry if this has been posted before, but I have been searching the forums and can't find an answer to it. I was also looking for the FAQ article about this that Apple says is an answer, but can't find that either.
Anyway, using 10.4.11 and Safari 3.0.4. Safari won't display pdfs in the browser. It is gray with the Acrobat logo.
I remember reading that the solution is to uninstall (delete) Safari and reinstall 3.0.4. However, I cannot find an install for 3.0.4 for Mac, and then do something with Acrobat. I am using 3.0.4 because it was part of a bundled OS update. I can't go back and downgrade my OS...
    What do I do?

    Hi,
You probably won't have to reinstall Safari. Two things you can try. If you open Adobe Reader and go into the 'Internet' section of its preferences, you should be able to disable the browser plug-in. Some times that alone isn't enough, in which case, browse to HD/Library/Internet Plug-ins/ and move the Adobe plugin out of the folder. Restart Safari for the changes to take effect.

  • Safari won't open pdf files on my iphone 5c

Safari won't open pdf files on my iphone 5c. Whenever I try to open a link leading to a pdf from say the google search page it won't load up. If I touch-and-hold, the. choose "open", I get taken to a blank page. There are not buttons, like the one that offer to open the pdf in iBooks for example. I get the same result in the google Chrome app.

Open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following:
    /Library/Internet Plug-Ins
    Click Go
If you see this plugin:   AdobePDFviewerplugin
Move it to the trash, then quit and relaunch Safari and try a PDF file.

  • Safari won't show passwords how do I fix?

Since I updated to OS X 10.9.4 on July 1st Safari won't show the passwords. I check box to show passwords. The box where I enter my passcode never shows up and the check mark disappears from the box.  Have a MacBook Pro. So how do I fix this?

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then try the action that you're having trouble with again. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of which is irrelevant to solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.
Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.

  • Safari won't open PDF files anymore.

Hi,  This is a new problem for me. I have Mavericks 10.9.4 and Safari 7.0.6.  Whenever I click on a PDF link on a web page, I get a black screen - no error message at all.  The link works properly in Firefox.  I looked at my installed plugins and there are a couple for PDFs.  I've got Acrobat Reader and Acrobat Pro both installed.  Does anyone have any idea what could have changed or what I am missing?
    Thanks!

  • Safari won't display PDF

My Safari will not display PDF files when browsing.
The "Finder" opens and it says "select an Acrobat application".
I don't seem to have the Acrobat application.
Do I need to down load this application?
If I do, how do I link it to my browser?
And will I now open PDF files on my computer with the Acrobat reader instead of “Preview”?
    Thanks

Thanks Jan, but I never tried to install or remove any Adobe product.
Is Adobe a program that comes with the Mini Mac?
Will Safari normally display PDF files? Or was this something that I should not have expected?
It is kind of a pain not being able to see PDF's in the Browser.
The IE Explorer down loads the PDF file then uses Preview to display. But I really don't want to down down load the files, just view them.
I know on my MS XP computer I have no problem viewing PDF files.
Is there some setting in the Safari that I need to changed?

  • Safari won't view PDFs inline

    Hello,
I'm trying to make my work computer as Mac-like as possible. But I can't seem to get Safari to display PDFs inline, the way it does on my Macs. They just download like data files.
Does Windows Safari not support inline PDFs? If it actually does, what can I do to make it work?
Could the installation of FoxIt Reader, which set itself as the default PDF reader, have affected Safari's settings? When I try to open a downloaded PDF in Safari through Open-File, even that doesn't work. I often have to view dozens of PDFs and it's a drag when they all download to my desktop.

For the sake of Google, I should answer this.
So, Foxit reader's plugin does not work with Safari. Getting rid of that overrated program and adding Reader 8 did the trick.
Unfortunately, you do rely on Adobe for PDF viewing in Windows Safari. A very janky interface as compared with OS X, I have to say.

  • Safari won't display pdf in browser and I do not have adobe reader or ply ins

I've been checking the posts and all the discussions/questions and answers but the only thing I have been able to find about problems displaying pdfs in browser have to do with adobe plug-ins. I never had adobe reader and checked in /library/internet plug ins and never found those plug ins. I then downloaded and installed adobe reader X and got rid of the plug ins in the library and that still has not solved the problem. Whenever I click on a link for a pdf it just automatically downloads the pdf. I just want to view the pdfs in the browser.
    Thanks for the help

  • Safari won't open PDFs

I have iPhone 4S with latest OS. I have noticed recently that when I click on a PDF link in safari it starts to try and load it and then the load bar stops and the page stays blank. I would say it occurs about 70% of the time as some PDFs load fine. If is completely independent of PDF size, as sometimes a PDF won't load but then will do if I try at another time. It doesn't work if I try opening in a new tab and the pop up bar for adobe doesn't come up when it happens. Switching between wifi and 3G makes no difference. Can someone please help me?

Am having exactly the same problem on iPhone 6 and iOS 8.1.3. Complete pain!!

  • Safari won't print PDF files

Weird.  If Safari gets pointed to a pdf file, it will display fine on screen, but won't print it out or save/display in Preview. Just started happening a week or so ago and I can't pin down what changed.
Fox and Chrome handle the pdfs normally.
    Suggestions?
    Safari 6.0.2
    OSX 10.8.2
    Thanks in advance!

    Back up all data.
Triple-click the line of text below to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
    In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens (command-V), then press return.
From the folder that opens, remove any items that have the letters “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari, and test.
The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can also interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it as well, if it's present.
If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again.

  • Safari won't open .pdf and .wmv pages

Safari does not work when I try to access a webpage with a pdf. I get a black page and and a spinning ball.
Safari does not work when I try a link on a web page for a .wmv. This time it's a blank page with a spinning ball. I am even unable to close the tab, and have to force quit safari.
I have windows media (.app) and adobe. Both functions work well in Firefox, but don't work in Safari. I also have the .app flip for mac, which is supposed to to work with Safari. I'm not sure this is the problem.
Also, when I close Safari I sometimes get a message asking if I want to send details to Apple re Safari crashing. I guess it doesn't know when I am closing it vs when it crashes.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks
    Joe

I saw that Flip4Mac support was referring some people to the beta version of the current release of their software, due to random WMV streaming problems. You might want to grab that version off their iDisk public folder: Go > iDisk > other users public folder (flip4mac is the member name) You will see a folder called "Flip4Mac installers", download installer v.2.2.039
If you're gonna try that, I'd recommend uninstalling the current F4M version first. Post back if it works to solve your issues.
One more note is that you may want to check out the F4M users forum to see if any of your particular problems are mentioned there. The moderator, Craig, is pretty good about responding. Their forum is HERE.
