My Samsung died thinking of getting the X240

http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-NP700Z5B-S01UB-i7-2675QM-2-2GHz-Silver/dp/B007IJPVP0/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF...
I am thinking of getting the x240 and have a few questions
1. Does it have a backlit keyboard..
2. Can I put my PC14900 DDR3 (vs X240's DDR3L) 204 pin ram into it into it?
3. I have a dual band Intel 7260 AC card, can I put that into it?
4. I have three samsung power adapters http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008KPKTVW/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Can these safely work with the X240 ( I am confused at how it's pin looks, the X240 from what I understand has a non-round or even a USB adapter port/pin)?

If I buy the MacBook now, I may not get the new Leopard OS when it comes out.
While it won't be free, you can just buy a retail copy of Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) when it is released… just like the rest of us. It will work just fine.
I'm not sure about the degree of hard disk upgrade (can it use the normal laptop hard disks) and RAM (does it use the normal laptop RAMs).
When it comes to RAM the general thinking is to buy as much as you can afford. Although for most people an upgrade to 1GB is sufficient. An upgrade to 1 or 2GB is highly recommended.
As for your hard drive, it really depends on what you're thinking of doing with your MacBook and what sort, and how much, media files you're wanting to store. Without knowing that it's a little difficult to recommend anything.
Is the black version really worth to buy compared to the white one which has arm rest discolouration issues.
Given new white MacBooks do not have these problems, and if they do they're a free repair, the black MacBook is as good value when you look at it from a purely technical stand point. Even when you take into account the larger (extra 20GB) hard drive you're basically paying more for a colour which would more than pay for a 1GB RAM upgrade.

This freezing reminds me of really old Macs, long ago, in the days of the old-school peripherals like SCSI drives, terminators, scanners and the like. If you had a SCSI conflict, like the wrong device ID's or something, you'd freeze up like that. Back in those days you'd call 800-SOS-APPLE (AAPL?) and they'd run you through disconnecting all your extra hardware - Jaz and Zip drives, CD burners, scanners etc and then eliminate them one by one by adding them incrementally and testing for the freeze/bomb dialog.
But, today we have Firewire and none of those ancient issues (no free lifetime tech support either). My iMac's ports are all full, and I only know which devices are connected when I have to remove something for another device. iSight, scanner, card reader, external hard drive, USB soundsticks, etc. You wouldn't happen to have any SCSI devices hooked up, would you?
Out of curiosity, have you tried a different USB/Firewire port for the hard drive? Or run the hardware test DVD that comes with your computer? This weird freezing seems to suggest a problem with the computer, RAM or network more than a device. Bad devices, in my experience, cause kernel panics, not freezing.

I'm having the same problem.  It's not an issue with my TV, i've turned this feature off.  I've tried playing with the ATV display settings but nothing works.  When I stream netflix from my Samsung bluray player, I don't get the soap opera effect, but when I stream any video from the ATV, the soap opera effect is there.  I'm thinking it's a choice that Apple made, but I really wish it could be turned off.  Not a lot of people are searching for this, because it can be easy to overlook, but it's driving me nuts!

Anyone with a Verizon iPhone thinking of getting the trophy?

That's part of my concern. With the Memorial Day weekend, I'm wondering whether I'll end up getting the thing like the next Tuesday or Wednesday. By that point, I could just wait another day and buy it in the store (and maybe sweet talk the rep into a steeper discount). I was hoping Verizon offered overnight shipping for online orders so I could make sure to have it by Fri 5/27. Guess I'll see what my options are when I order. Thanks!
I'm hoping we get overnight shipping for the HTC Trophy.  Looking at their website, quite a few of their newer phones come with free overnight shipping.  If you do order on Thursday and it is 2-day shipping, in theory you might be able to get it Saturday.  I'm really hoping for overnight.  I'm going to be going out of town this coming weekend.  Either way though, I'm going to have it shipped to my work so I don't have to worry about a signature or it being left outside.

If Mail in Mavericks is the same as earlier versions you can select accounts in the sidebar, so that you can either display the inboxes for individual accounts, or the contents of all the account inboxes. (If the accounts don't show click the disclosure triangle next to 'INBOX'). The layout may have changed since the version I have - Snow Leopard - but you should be able to do the same thing.

If you get a dual-boot (e.g. boot camp) or an emulator on the Mac (e.g. Parallels Desktop) then you might be able to - but I think that you will need to install a version of windows on the Mac.

  • Will it die before I get the SSD benefit?

I have an early '09 24" iMac 3.06 ghz core 2 duo and am thinking of replacing the 1tb hdd with an equivalent ssd which I can purchase for around £350.00. I've upgraded the ram a year ago to 8gb.
I recently exchanged the hdd and memory on a 13" mac book pro with great results, but I'm worried that due to the age of the iMac there may be other components at death's door of which I am not aware which may fail after the new drive is fitted. Basically I'm asking, do you folks think it's worth it to upgrade to ssd and if I do what are the possible weak spots in the near future?
    Thanks for your time.

I have found the order of failure is
    The Optical drive, first.
The hard drive usually goes before the CPU or Logic Board which, "usually", are the last things to fail.
The GPU card/chip can fail and is, again, "usually"  the third hardware component to go, but it depends.
There is no real timeline for any of this to fail, other than the optical drives, in iMacs, are prone to premature failure and the hard drives, these days, are said to only last up to 5-6 years before a potential failure.
Hard drive will always fail over time, so it's always a good idea to have multiple external backup drives to protect your data.
What do you want us to tell you?
You have a six year old IMac. Computers are like plumbing. They do not get better with age!
If everything is still working and you want to do this, do it!
I used a 2003 PowerMac for over 8 years and added all sorts of things to it to keep it as current as I could until a time when I could finally get myself a newer, used Mac.
If you are DIY-ing all of this on your iMac, you have to take precautions like working in a static free area with anti-static protection. Be careful with all of the delicate and finicky connection cables, etc. and do not damage anything.
    Good Luck!

  • Yooooooooooooooo, Thinking about getting the K7N2

Im thinking about buying the K7n2 nforce2 mobo. Is it a fast mobo, Stable, good temp readings any issues?
Any information would be appreciated. this mobo looks NICEEE!!!! :D  :D  :D
                                           --Rob--

    Hi !
I installed it this weekend with my old CPU, and have a few notes about it  :D
First of all the pleasant setup:
No problems setting up the board with the old installation of Win XP (yes I know.. you should not do that, but I did not have the time for reinstallation)
Only driver I had to install was the very debated IDE driver.
The things that comes to mind compared to 420D:
    - Very crisp sound - even better (and who have thougt that was possible)
    - Faster Windows boot
    - In general better speed & stability.
The only benchmarks I had time to complete was 3D mark 2001:
    MSI GeForce 4 MX440 8X
    http://service.madonion.com/compare?2k1=5264530
    MSI GeForce 4 Ti4200 8X
    http://service.madonion.com/compare?2k1=5271508
This should be OK with an old Win XP installation.
However the lack of SATA, RAID & Firewire is pulling me to "The Dark side" unless of course the new boards in January have theese features and a good pricing.
    My old setup:
    nForce 420D o/b graphics
    Athlon XP1700+
    2X Samsung 256MB PC2100 DDR
My new setup: (for now at least)
    K7N2-L
    Athlon XP1700+
    256MB Buffalo PC3200 DDR
    MSI GF4 Ti4200 8X

  • Thinking of getting the Zen Nano Plus

Im thinking of getting this after Xmas, from Amazon UK.
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000A3P3WM
To those that already have this, is this MP3 Player value for money?

I bought mine earlier this week, my first mp3 player, what a little marvel this thing is, can't believe the amazing sound that comes out of such a tiny piece of kit.
I've loaded all sorts of stuff on to it, music, audiobooks, some stand up comics, great to have so much aural entertainment in one ultra portable device.
Not keen on the supplied headphones, they sound ok but aren't very comfy to my ears, i'll replace those soon i reckon. The penlight battery seems to last an age, one or two rechargeables will be a good idea.
So there you have it, if masses of memery isn't a priority this is a great buy.

  • Thinking about getting the iPhone, any reviews?

I am hoping to get the iPhone for either my birthday or Christmas. I know quite a few people who have the iPhone 3G and greatly enjoy it, but I have been reading over some discussion boards and I am not very sure any more!
Could anyone give me their opinion on the iPhone 3G?
    Thanks,
    Hailey

it depends on what you really want it for but these are my opinions ive not had many major problems like people have on this forum just usual things i dont like
    good points
if its for music/video/internet/email on the go then i cant fault the device never really had any major issues with the iphone i use it everyday for this stuff i get my mail delivered i can check the net whereever i am etc
as a phone i hate it!
u can only customize the ring tone
sms/email tones you cant change and sometime just about hear
you get a lag sometimes when you txt a reboot solves this
    you cant txt sideways
no sms count on how many letters you have used
    you cant forward sms messages
no mms (carrying a second phone resolves this) and no using email is not really a good alternative)
i hate the way sms messages are all within a single window like a streaming conversation i would like to have a new window for every txt message and be able to save txt messages i want to folders
i get a lag when i view txt messages i only have 3 in my box and takes about 3/4 seconds from time i click sms button on the phone to when i get a listing of messages.
would i get one ever again no chance no unless it acts more like a phone.

  • Iphone and computer died, need to get the files from hard drive

Iphone and computer died at the same time, my hard drive on the computer is ok, i did a external connection of my hard drive to my laptop, my iphone was backed up on itunes on the computer which are on the hard drive, how do i extract contacts and other files from the hard drive thanks

If the old drive is not accessible then, no, you will not be able to access all your files on it. In this case you may need to look at the following:
    Basics of File Recovery
    Files in Trash
If you simply put files in the Trash you can restore them by opening the Trash (left-click on the Trash icon) and drag the files from the Trash to your Desktop or other desired location. OS X also provides a short-cut to undo the last item moved to the Trash -press COMMAND-Z.
If you empty the Trash the files are gone. If a program does an immediate delete rather than moving files to the Trash, then the files are gone. Recovery is possible but you must not allow any additional writes to the hard drive - shut it down. When files are deleted only the directory entries, not the files themselves, is modified. The space occupied by the files has been returned to the system as available for storage, but the files are still on the drive. Writing to the drive will then eventually overwrite the space once occupied by the deleted files in which case the files are lost permanently. Also if you save a file over an existing file of the same name, then the old file is overwritten and cannot be recovered.
    General File Recovery
If you stop using the drive it's possible to recover deleted files that have not been overwritten with recovery software such as Data Rescue II, File Salvage or TechTool Pro. Each of the preceding come on bootable CDs to enable usage without risk of writing more data to the hard drive.
The longer the hard drive remains in use and data are written to it, the greater the risk your deleted files will be overwritten.
Also visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on Data Recovery.

  • I was thinking about getting the dsl lite ........

Does anyone else use that dsl stuff? I wasn't sure if I had to have a modem for that to work. Can I buy a a cheaper modem from some place else other than Bellsouth and have it still work as good?
    Thanks
    Tony

    Hi, Beazley -
DSL is good - I've been using it for years.
Yes, you do need a modem - the internal modem (if your Mac has one - mine don't, since I ordered them without one) is not usable for DSL. You will need to acquire an external one.
Do not get a USB modem. Broadband (DSL or cable) is a high-speed connection; USB is slow, even USB 2.0. There's no sense paying for speed and then losing it by using USB. Use only ethernet with broadband service.
Which modems you can use depends upon your ISP's approval. To ensure compatibility, I lease mine from my ISP (the local phone company, now part of Windstream). Check with your ISP to get approved models and to get their prices for leasing and buying; then compare those to what your costs might be if you purchase the modem elsewhere.

Which web page are you reading?
You get everything shown on this page providing you've got the operating system and hardware to run Premiere and AE
Explore Adobe desktop apps | Adobe Creative Cloud
Note that they are 64 bit apps so they require a 64 bit operating system.
If you're running Windows 7 or 8 32 bit then you won't be able to install or run them.
