My Satellite L450D-113 wont start up

Hi Guys,
I would really appreciate some help with my laptop i have a toshiba satellite L450D-113
I noticed it was getting slow and then when i turned it on the other day it will not load up and just says
"DISK READ ERROR OCCURED PRESS CTR+ALT+DLT TO RESTART
If anyone has any idea how i could get this back up and running i would appreciate it,
i dont even mind restoring it to factory settings, as there is not a great deal of important docs that i need to save, but dont have a clue how i do it so i would need step by step explanation
Thanks

my sister had the same laptop that she doesnt use anymore so i swapped the hardrives it was all working fine! but obviouslly had a lot of programs and stuff on so i chose to restore it to factory settings,
it looked as if it was working and got stuck on a white page saying "please wait finishing the installation may take several minutes. please do not interrupt or shutdown the computer!
its been like this for a couple hours now????
what should i do?

  • Satellite L450D-113 BBC iPlayer frame drop

I have had my satellite L450D-113 since Xmas. I recently tried to play a downloaded video through the BBC's iPlayer software.
When viewing in full screen, the picture jerks as though it is skipping frames. Am I asking too much of the machine to play at full speed in full screen.
I am running Win7 32bit with 3GB of RAM. Screen resolution set at 1366x768 32bit. I find it hard to believe that this machine can't manage the above. Even worse trying to play an HD video.
    Thanks in advance.

Furthermore, the frame drops occur when playing DVDs (using the Toshiba player) and the audio breaks up when playing CD. Task Manager shows that the CPU is fully occupied (100% usage) when playing audio and/or video. My original post tells that I have tried many strategies to improve performance, but nothing has worked.
From the absence of similar observations of this kind of behavior on the Satellite forum, I guess this is not a common problem with this model of laptop so it is clear to me there must a problem with this one. I should emphasize that the machine worked well for the first couple of months.
    Any advice?

  • Satellite L450D-113 - Upgrading the processor

    Hi
I have a Satellite L450D-113 and am looking to upgrade the processor to something more powerful, does anyone have any suggestions.

    Hi,
I mostly play online games and have tried to play such games as age of empires 3 and assasins creed, but the processor is to slow and the games freeze at most parts. i have allready looked at the graphics and they are not a problem. I am looking to upgrade the ram and am thinking about buying another 2 gb ram card from toshiba or pcworld.
i have looked around and am thinking of buying a amd turion x2 ultra zm-84, But am not sure if this would help.

  • Satellite Pro L850 wont start up when USB3 cable to Dynadock is connected

    Hello,
I have a new L850 and Dynadock ( PA3927A-1PRP).  The L850 wont start up when the USB 3 is connected and the screen flashes gray then black.  If I remove the USB3 then the L850 will start up and if I then reinsert the cable it continues to start and work fine.
I have uninstalled and then reinstalled the Dynadock viewer drivers from  the Toshiba website.
Perhaps I have the cables in the wrong slots?  It is connected as per the Dynadock quick start guide.
    I would appreciate some assistance.
    Thanks - Mark

  • Satellite 2410-504 wont start

    Hi All
I have a sick toshiba Satellite 2410-504 laptop.
    When booting up it says:-
"Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: <Windows root>\system32\ntoskrnl.exe
Please re-install a copy of the above file."
Ive put the Windows CD in the CD drive and I've gone into the BIOS and set the CD-ROM as the first Priority but it fails to boot from CD and just continues (what appears) to boot from the HD.
When I changed the BOIS priority it came up with a
PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable
So after reading this error message I've check the HD is installed and disabled the net card in the BIOS but still wont boot and reverts to the error message as above.
Any other ideas? Is the HD broke?
Why wont it boot from CD?

    Hi
It could be possible that CD/DVD drive cannot read the inserted disk and therefore tries to boot from the HDD.
Therefore I would recommend checking another bootable disk like Linux live CD or just simply another bootable Windows disk.
If the disk is OK, then the CD/DVD drive might be affected. I had an similar problem in the past where the CD/DVD drive could not read the inserted disk. In my case the laser lens was dirty. I cleaned it using cotton wool tip and alcohol and finally could start from the inserted disk

  • Toshiba Satellite L675D-S7104 wont start up

Looking for help! I was having problems with IE not responding so decided to upgrade to internet explorer 9 during process I needed to know if I had a 64 or 32 bit. So I minimized to check on my start menu and all my icons were gone. After pulling up internet again I looked around to find solutions someone suggested turning it off and manually starting in safe mode. Usually nothing comes up. Occasionally I get Windows boot manager which says "windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause." It wants me to insert my windows installation disc which I do not have. I once got an error message saying "An Error has occurred error:F3-F100-0003" Most of the time it is just a black screen with a blinking cursor dot. Interestingly after commandeering my sons computer I find the internet a lot faster than it was on my new Toshiba. My security was up and running and said there were no problems however my computer had been slow and not responding for a while a lot of times it wouldn't turn off so I had to put it to sleep now it sleeps eternally. Please help my son wants his computer back and I think I want mine back.

Let's just try a basic system reset and see if this helps bring your system back.  Power off your system, unplug everything including the AC, remove the battery, press and hold down the power on button for 30 seconds, replace battery and AC, power on, at the Toshiba logo press the 'F2' key to enter BIOS Setup, in setup press 'F9' to load setup defaults, press 'F10' to save and exit, then try to boot into Windows again.
Please let us know what happens. Good luck.

I was using the laptop earlier today and everything was working fine.  I came back to use it a few hours later and it won't turn on.  The cd drive still opens.  You can hear it start to turn on and then it stops within about 3 seconds.  I've tried unplugging with the battery out and pressing the power button and nothing happens.  Help please!

Let's try a proper system reset one more time, and see if this brings your system back. Power off the laptop, unplug everything including the AC from the unit, remove the battery, press and hold down the power button for 30 seconds, replace the battery and AC, power on, if you see the Toshiba logo, press the 'F2' key to enter the BIOS Setup, in setup press 'F9' to load setup defaults, press 'F10' to save and exit, and then try to boot into Windows.

The HDD led turns blues when I turn the computer on and seems to work fine (I can hear the normal running sound from the HDD).
I tried removing the RAM module to see if there's a fault in one of the modules, no help. I tried removing the battery and running it only on ac power, also no help.
    Anyone got any idea?

  • Satellite Pro L40 wont start

When i turn on my Satellite Pro L40 it shows me a screen asking me to start windows repair or start windows normally.
When choosing either option it leads me back to the same screen.
    Does anybody have any ideas?
    Many thanks

    Hi Will
For me it looks like the installed OS was muddled up for non apparent reason
If you are not able to boot in the Windows XP OS and if the repair option doesnt help to boot in the safe mode I dont see any other possibility as to boot from the Toshiba recovery CD and to reinstall the operating system again!
But note; the booting from the recovery CD will format the whole HDD and you will lose all files stored on the HDD. ?
This is a drastic procedure but in my eyes its the only one which could helps to solve this issue.

  • Satellite x205-sli1 wont start

Help.  My x205-sli1 was working fine, and i just went to start it up and all i get is 3 beeps, the screen doesnt turn on and nothing else works.  what is wrong with it?

First, there is no mention of the Toshiba Recovery procedures in the X205 Series User's Guide. So, it's safe to assume that this unit came out just before Toshiba started consistently putting recovery partitions on their HDDs. As a result, the F: partition on C: drive is unlikely to be the recovery partition, especially as the recovery partition would never have received a drive letter, and would not appear as an NTFS partition inside Windows.
You can still order a set of recovery disks though. As a number of Vista 32bit drivers and utilities will be retained after the upgrade, this is still worthwhile. See the bottom of this list to see the Vista 32bit drivers & utilities that are retained in Win7.
Next, given the model's specs, this unit can only handle a maximum of 4GB of RAM. So, there is essentially no benefit to installing Win7 64bit. Plus, you would have to do a clean/custom install to go from Vista 32bit to Win7 64bit, as you cannot use the upgrade method in this scenario. So, I would only upgrade to Win7 32bit. In fact, if you check the model's downloads page, you'll note there's a more complete set of drivers & utilities for Win7 32bit, than there is for the 64bit edition.
Regardless, you want to thorougly read, and follow the directions below, and use the software installer:
How To Manually Upgrade from Vista to Windows 7 - Satellite X205 (SLi)
Toshiba Software Installer for Windows 7
Please let us know how it turns out. Good luck.

  • Satellite P875-105 wont start

I bought this laptop P875-105 three weeks ago. Today i was working on it and all of a sudden it shut down. Now i want to start it but it doesnt do anything. the battery is full so that couldnt be the problem, any suggestions?

    Hi
    Try this:
Remove battery, disconnect the AC adaptor
Now press and hold the power button 30 sec long.
Put the battery and ac adaptor into the notebook and press power button once again.
    Does it power up?
If not, visit your dealer and ask for a new notebook or get in contact with Toshiba service in your country.
    Good luck

  • Satellite C855-S5194 wont start, black screen, fan pulses

I've seen many posts and youtube videos on this subject, but not with the specific symptoms mine is having.  I've gone through various troubleshooting steps already so don't bother telling me to do a power reset or whatever its called.  Here's the specifics:  When trying to power on the laptop, the fan tries to start, but then pulses on and off with increasing intensity and then dies down and builds up again. Screen is black, power light is on.  I removed the hard drive and same thing.  Here's the strange part:  There is a 4G RAM in slot A and 2G in slot B.  If I remove the 2G from B and leave 4G in A then I get just a single beep, no fan.  If I take out 4G from A and replace with 2G card, I get the single beep.  This model is supposed to work with only slot A occupied.  If I reverse them, 2G in A and 4G in B I get the same beep.  It's only if 4G is in A and 2G is in B that it at least pulses the fan on and off.  I thought it unlikely that it is the RAM and it's just due to another fault that this strange thing happens.  So I stripped it down to get out the motherboard for inspection.  I found a suspect looking solder joint next to where the battery connects, there is a double-pin solder joint that looked like a cold joint, so I resoldered it and put back together.  It basically still does the same thing except the fan does not pulse as quickly just one pulse about every 10-15 seconds, so it seems I changed something.  Anyway, I'm at the conclusion that I need a motherboard reflow, unless it is the CPU which I wouldn't know how to test.  One other thing I noticed when I took it apart was the CPU appeared to have way too much thermal compuound on it [from what I read] It looks like they just blobbed a whole bunch on top and the heat sink squeezed it out all over.  Just wondering if that may have been the cause of overheating that damaged the motherboard or perhaps both RAM cards?  That RAM symptom seems odd.  I didn't feel like ordering new RAM when it didn't seem likely to be the problem, now I'm second guessing.  So does it seem like motherboard or RAM... or the CPU?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    PROBLEM SOLVED!
OK, so the motherboard reflow didn't work.
I found another motherboard online for $130 and that worked.
I think I'm going to get a cooling pad now in case overheating was the problem.

    Seal (Slovakia)

    Any news seal?
    Did get the notebook working?
You should be able to access the BIOS even if the HDD is faulty.
In case the HDD malfunction, the BIOS should not recognize the HDD and the HDD details should not be listed in BIOS settings (first BIOS page)
In case the HDD is OK, you should test the RAM modules because faulty RAM module (one or both) would prevent the notebook from booting up.
