My Satellite P205-S7469 is having trouble booting up

It was lagging and being generally unresponsive this morning, and I had to shut it off with the button. I wasn't too worried, but when I tried to start it up, it got stuck on the loading screen with a black background and © Microsoft under the loading bar. I tried again., leaving it for more than 10 minutes, but it still wouldn't advance past that page. Next, I tried that Launch Repair option Windows was giving me, and while it would get passed that one screen, it wouldn't bring up the next page, just stuck on a blank screen. Then I tried Safe Mode both with and without Networking, but it just stopped in the middle of the page where it shows all the files that it's loading. My last resort was Last Good Configuration, but that did the same thing as trying to boot it up normally.

Hope you have a good and recent back up. Sounds like the hard drive has crashed. Could be corrupt software or a bad hard drive. I would continue to play with the computer for awhile and see if I can finally get it to turn on and boot up properly. If it does, take the opportunity to backup all your data again. Run a Defrag and see if you can't fix the drive.
If the fixes don't work, I would run the Recovery disks and see if that fixes the problem. It could just be corrupt software or a virus. If that doesn't work, you are probably going to need to replace the hard drive. You can always try to get your files back from a hard drive recovery place, but it's expensive and may destroy the drive.

  • Having trouble booting and general usage

So I've got an intel iMac running Windows 7 Professional and 10.6 The computer will randomly stop working while I'm using either OS, just kind of freeze for a few seconds to minutes and then all of a sudden will act responsive again. So I tried reinstalling both OS' and still having trouble. Before and after the reinstalls the boot menu (holding alt) will show no drives, but will show a bootable cd if I have one in there.
I work in IT for a relatively large campus and I've seen my fair share of viruses and the like, and I don't think the problem is in software. Could there be an issue with the EFI firmware reading the disks? This doesn't seem likely as the OS X install disk will sometimes show the Hard drive in disk utility, and other times not. I'm thinking its either a loose cable, or a dying hard drive. Thoughts?

If you want to check the HD you can run Apple Hardware Test in extended mode. You can find out how at: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1509 If the system finds some errors please reproduce the error codes here.

  • Toshiba Satellite P205-S7469 DVD Rom Replacement

Does anyone know how to replace the DVD Burner in a Toshiba Satellite P205-S769?  I am assuming that I need to remove the keyboard in order to get to the drive.  Is this similar to other Satellite models where I could simply remove the keyboard securing strip?

  • Why is my mid-2010 macbook pro having trouble booting and crashing?

I have a mid-2010 13 inch macbook pro that has recently began to have severe problems. It started after I shut it down one night and woke up to the sound of my mac's fans running loudly and my computer running extremely hot. Apparently, it must not have finished shutting down that night and something went wrong with it when i closed the lid. Ever since then, the computer will either take a long time to boot up (the apple symbol will take up to a minute to appear, and then up to several more minutes to go to my desktop) or it will display an error (either the folder icon appears instead of the apple logo, or the apple logo appears and then after a minute or two is replaced by the circle slash). Once i'm in, the computer seems to function normally, but anytime it needs to access the disc there might be another delay, or the computer will freeze, forcing me to shut it down again. The most common time this occurs is when I am waking the mac from sleep. In addition, the cpu would run hot (~85) which would imply i was doing high cpu activity, except i was usually doing very little, activity monitor showed low levels with sudden intense spikes whenever i did something.
I've run several diagnostics to try and determine the problem, but none identified an error:
booting computer from different computer/startup disk - runs fine (apparently. gave my mac to someone else to try this test, could not see results for myself)
Thorough Apple hardware test: no problems found
disc utility: disc/discpermissions verified and repaired with no issue.
PRAM/VRAM reset: actually sped up the lagging of the system once it reached the desktop and intense cpu thing but booting problems still persisted.
archive and install: some of the time it would fail to install in the middle of the installation, forcing me to start again, but once i completed it, issue still persisted.
clean wipe of drive with restoration from time machine: computer speed better but still trouble when booting.
Clean wipe of drive without migration of data: computer running and booting quickly, but occasionally still received circle slash instead of apple logo.
At this point, i don't know where the source of the problem lies. The computer is old, but has never had an issue until recently. The problem is inconsistent, and all testing implies it doesn't exist, which makes its diagnosis extremely difficult. As it is a 2010 mac, it is clearly out of apple care and warranty so i cant go to a genius. I have a weak battery (80%) and my screen lid is a little loose from frequent use, but those are the only blatant problems i'm aware of with my mac.
Any suggestions? I can gladly provide more info as needed.

  • G5 having trouble booting, don't always get a 'chime' noise

Trouble getting my G5 1.6ghz w/10.4.x to boot/start. Seems to be intermittent as far as hearing startup chime. Any suggestion?
The first few tries to start the G5 it would make no chime, nothing on the screen. Just some quiet whirring inside
I was unable to try zapping the PRAM. Since I got no 'chime'. Then I figured I would try holding down the 'option' key to boot from an external drive and was just about to put my finger on the OPTION key, I heard the chime. I was so shocked I just watched it, but nothing else happened.
So I turned it off, waited a minute, then started it and pushed the Option key. Nothing.
I was going to boot from a 10.4 CD - I managed to open the CD Drive, dropped the CD in it, hit the start button and pushed the C key. Nothing.
    Any suggestions?

Your Mac is getting to the age where the PRAM batteries die.
Check out things in Texas Mac Man's Battery, PRAM, PMU tutorial on the subject. His tutorial is a little dated (don't believe it even mentions G5's) but the info in it, except SMU not being included, still applies. The SMU link is for a late G5 Tower. Early G5's use PMU reset, as shown in the tutorial. The battery for late G5 + G5 iMacs and earlier iMacs, Mac Minis and Intel Tower Macs is this one.
Also, when you try to boot from the CD, hold the c key down till something shows up. It may take awhile. If you get there, try using Disk Utility to do a Disk Repair, as shown in this link, while booted up on your install disk.
You could have some directory corruption. Let us know what errors Disk Utility reports and if DU was able to repair them. DALE

  • MacBook Pro is having trouble booting

Hi, I recently installed Windows 7 to my MacBook Pro, only to find that the product key had already been used and it was an upgrade disc.. (I plan to buy my own copy soon). So I decided to remove the partition that contained Windows 7 to give my computer a "fresh", untouched feeling. This has created one issue:
When powering up my MacBook Pro, it now appears to still attempt to boot from Windows (I don't know why it set Windows as a default).. but since I removed Windows 7, it just displays a black screen that says the boot file could not be found and to insert the proper boot disc and press any key.
I can get around this by booting my Mac up and holding the option key to manually select the OSX hard disk, which is the only on to choose from.
So how can I get my MacBook back to normal? I'm not concerned about loading Windows 7 right now.
    Thanks in advance!

Open the Startup Disk preference pane in System Preferences, select your Mac OS install and click restart. This will set your Mac to always boot to the Mac OS partition.

  • Having trouble booting to mars 4.2(4) dvd

I'm trying to re-image a mars50 appliance using a dvd i burned from the 4.2(4) image i downloaded from CCO. Is there something i'm missing here? When the dvd is in the mars appliance, and i reboot it, it doesn't even act like it sees anything in the dvd/cd drive, yet the files are all on the dvd. TIA

Your profile says you have a GSM phone. Is this correct? If you have a Verizon (CDMA) iPhone, the current version is 4.2.10. Are you sure this isn't what you have?
If you DO have a GSM phone, you're going to have to give us a little more information.

  • Trouble Booting to Ubuntu Live USB on T440

    Hey,
I am having trouble booting to a Ubuntu Live USB on my T440. I turn on the laptop, press enter to interrupt the normal boot, and press F12 to select another boot option. But after selecting the appropritate USB, the screen goes black for a couple of seconds and then returns to the boot selection. It will not boot from the Ubuntu USB, only to the preinstalled Windows 8.
Other guides have recommended disabling Secure Boot (I have done this, it has not worked); others suggest enabling Secure Boot but changing to Legacy Boot (this didn't work for me either).
Once I can successfully boot to the USB, I will be installing Ubuntu, replacing Windows all together. I don't need help with that; just getting the computer to boot from the USB would be great.
    Thanks.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Fixed. My boot USB was made with Ubuntu's Startup Disk Creator (on my other Ubuntu system). On a hunch, I made another boot USB using Linux Pen Drive on the Windows 8 machine. That one worked. I presume it was related to the format of the USB (the working one being FAT32).
So if anyone wants to easily install a Linux distibution on a T440, make your boot USB on a Windows machine.

  • TROUBLE BOOTING MAC OS 10.3.2

I am having trouble booting my powerbook g3 pismo to the mac os. when i start it up, it has the apple logo, then after about 3 seconds it goes to a circle with a line through the middle!!! what are possible causes for this?? How can i fix this?? thanks -roger

    roger,
"well when i bought it last week it had 10.3.2 on it..."
    How do you know that?
"It did not come with any install disks or system disks however,..."
Can you contact the seller, and request that they be provided?
"I have an OS 10.2 install disk which I previously purchased."
    Do they look like THESE?
If the Firmware Update, was not applied, prior to the installation of OS X, there could be problems.
As you really don't know the condition of the system, it's difficult to diagnose where the problem lies.

  • Trouble booting iBook

I'm having problems similar to those many people are having on here: my iBook recently started having trouble booting up. When I try, I get the chimes, but after that nothing happens; there's just a blank dark screen. The whirring noise that usually accompanies start-up is noticeably absent. So far, if I let it sit, off, for anywhere between 10 - 30 minutes it does eventually start up, but I know it'll only get worse. Once it does get running, it runs perfectly, so I'm at a loss. Any idea what's going on and what I can do about it?

    Welcome to the Forum.
Could be a failing HD. Insert your installation disc and restart holding down the 'C' key. Once booted up, open Disk Utility from the options menu and run verify disk. See if that gives you any indication.

  • Setting up boot WIM... but having trouble setting up the correct NIC driver

I'm trying to setup a network boot with Windows Deployment Services. Pretty straightforward (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc766320.aspx). Problem though is the OOTB Vista & Win2k8 boot.wim file don't include the necessary driver for the NIC card (Intel 82567LM Gigabit NIC). So I'm following these steps outlined here in the MSFT KB (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923834) but seems I'm not loading the correct driver. I looked in my w500 Vista x64 install that has a working NIC to get the working NIC INF file, but that didn't work. Anyone successfully done this? I'm sure some of the bigger organizations have... just having trouble creating a boot.wim (or modifying the one I've got) to add the correct NIC driver to continue with a PXE boot.

Im having trouble getting my macbook pro to boot up after a fail safe boot, im getting as far as the grey screen with the apple loggo. so im trying to run a disk repair but is saying the disk is locked, how do i unlock disk??

    Some clarification may help.
You say you cannot boot normally.  It shows a gray screen with the Apple logo.
Did you say it will boot successfully in Safe Mode (boot, then hold down the Shift key)?
How did you boot the machine to run Disk Utility?  (Which keyboard combinations)?

As stated I'm having trouble with my computer, I boot it up and within a few minutes it freezes and I have to restart it, I tried updating it to the latest mavericks but it won't finish the installation it's stuck at the end, what can I do to fix this? I need it for homework tonight.

    Crowntheme,
you can try this: boot your MacBook Pro into Recovery mode by holding down a Command key and the R key as it starts up. Once the Mac OS X Utilities menu appears, select Disk Utility. On the left-hand side of the Disk Utility window, select your internal disk’s boot partition (typically called “Macintosh HD”). On the right-hand side, press the Verify Disk button if it’s not greyed out; if it is greyed out, or if it reports that errors were found, press the Repair Disk button. Once the verification/repair is completed, exit Disk Utility and select Restart from the Apple menu to restart in normal mode. Does it still freeze after a few minutes?
