My satellite R15-S822

Hi, I'm Carla.  I have three problems and don't know if they are related.  My sound has been gone for a long time.  I have reinstalled the drivers and it doesn't help.  Also the computer doesn't work by battery any more only when I use the electrical adapter.   Lastly, the upper left side of of the machine and the adapter bboth get  very, very hot (even when it is on a cooling Pad).  I have been putting ice  packs on it to keep it cooled down when I use it.  Someone told me if I get a new battery that will solve all the problems.  Is that true?  Thanks for your help.

the battery could have a lot to do with it. if it has gone defective that would be why you cant run on battery alone. but i wouldnt go as far as saying that would fix all of your problems because there can be many things wrong just pointing toward the battery. if you know someone with the same model laptop or same type of battery i would suggest trying theirs to see if it works before dishing out the money for a new battery.
hope that helps

  • No sound Satellite R15-S822

After uninstalling Disney's Alice in Wonderland game, I no longer have sound. I am running XP-sp2. I also lost my keyboard and am using the input panel to type this. HELP!
    Chris
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

OK, I was able to reload SoundMax from the recovery disk and it first had to restart the MS audio system, then re-boot and finally reload SoundMax. It did this all automatically, which was great. I then unistalled the Keyboard from Control Panel, then Add Hardware, Keyboard, and now it's working just fine. It only took me 24 hours to figure this out. I must be losing my touch (or my mind!)

Now, when I try to reboot or shutdown my machine, the system doesn't want to shutdown. The screen will blank, no input will be accepted from the keyboard, and my fan will kick on full blast and stay that way until I force shutdown by holding down the power button. I'm not sure what is causing this, but I'd really like some help in figuring this out.

Now once again, booted fine in morning, left machine on all day to charge CMOS battery, at around 7PM last night opened explorer window and window started sticking again when attempting to move window, start menu click would open then immediately close start menu.
I know I have a shot battery (above happens with or without battery installed) and with NEW power supply plugged in.  dxdiag.exe reports NO PROBLEMS.  Neither does hard drive check or any Toshiba diagnostics...
    I am really stumped here...
I bought this R15 in fall of 2005 - could this possibly be a bad CMOS battery?

  • R15-S822 is 48 bit lba compliant or not?

Hi, does anyone know if the R15-S822 is 48-bit lba compliant?  I recently installed a 320gb WD HDD and of course it overwrote the os in a day.  Now I'm not sure it's the R15's fault, or if "enablebiglba" was set in winders xp...
I've searched for hours for the answer to this, but no clue have I found.  I really thought this was a thing of the past...
    Thanks!
    Lary

Ok, so I spent the $12 over at 48bitlba.com for their bios testing utility, and it says the tosh's bios is compliant.  So, it's time to reinstall XP from the recovery disk and check that "enablebiglba" was indeed not enabled.

  • R15-S822 Sound Drivers Help!!!

Hi everyone. Last night I reformatted my wifes laptop using an OEM copy of Windows XP. I've found all the drivers that I need from the toshiba site EXCEPT for the sound drivers. My device Manager is saying my Multimedia Audio Controller needs a driver. The funny thing about this is that on the Toshiba driver download page they only have a device driver made for Windows Vista and not XP. But the laptop came with XP originally. Please help me find this driver and get this woman out of my ear!!!!
    Laptop model-    R15-S822   Toshiba Satellite

    Satellite R15-S822
This one for Tablet Edition should work.
Analog Devices Sound Driver for Windows XP Tablet Edition, 5.12.01.5240U, 06/06/08
It would be best to restore the original contents of the hard disk from Toshiba recovery media.

I've spent some time trying to see if I can track down the adapter alone, but everything I've found is only in reference to the above, unavailable, kit.
Yeah, I probably should have mentioned that in my previous statement. I've seen a couple of the adapters floating around on eBay.cn but they're usually insanely expensive (like $650+ USD). It's unfortunate too, I remember seeing the article on various tech blogs and thinking to myself: "I have to get my hands on that adapter."

  • Toshiba Satellite R15 - Help! Pen calibration goes crazy after hibernating and resuming the PC.

I have a Toshiba Satellite R15 laptop that I got off of ebay. This laptop is the kind with a flip-around screen so that you can use it in pen/tablet/stylus mode. When I got it, I installed a fresh copy of Windows XP SP3 on it, and installed all the necessary drivers from the Toshiba web site. Also I made sure to get the latest Wacom pen driver from the Wacom web site. Also, I got all the windows updates.
I can normally calibrate the display and the pen just fine using the Wacom tool in the windows control panel. I have the computer configured so that, when I flip the screen into tablet mode, the screen goes into a portrait-aspect configuration (tall instead of wide). This works fine and I can also calibrate the screen fine in this mode.
But if I hibernate and resume the machine (in "tablet" mode with the screen flipped around), after resume, everything has gone wonky with the pen. First of all, the pen moves as if the machine were in landscape mode still: An X motion of the pen produces a Y motion of the cursor, for example. If, then, I flip the screen back to regular-laptop mode, the X/Y direction is correct again, but, the calibration is way off, the cursor is two inches to the right of the pen. If I try to calibrate again when it's in this state, the pen is still off by two inches.
I did a google search, but, the only results I see are for people encountering this problem under Linux. I don't see any solutions for Windows XP users.
I emailed Wacom and they said to ask Toshiba. I can't email toshiba (no support email in their contact page), so I'm asking here. Can anyone help?

I ended up fixing this, by formatting the computer from scratch and installing Windows 7 instead of Windows XP.  :-)
This works but there is a limitation: There are no updated Win7 video drivers from Intel for the Toshiba Sattellite R15. So you have to hack the XP drivers to work. Here are the instructions on how to hack the XP drivers to work on the Toshiba Satellite R15 running Windows 7:
    http://www.groundstate.net/855GMWin7.html
But after that, everything is fine on the tablet.

  • Problems with Satelite R15-S822

I have toshiba satelite r-15 laptop, after it is on for a while the mouse starts sticking and windows seem to want to either not open or move back to their original position (when trying to move them).  I replaced fan thinking that the CPU was over heating- but fan runs and changes speed appropriately, and I have done very thorough virus/spyware scans and system is clean.  The most perplexing part: when drive is "nuked" and during OS install, hardware problem does not occur....???
    Any ideas?
    Thank you for your input.

The error occurs with or without mouse.
I nuked drive, then re-installed with Toshiba disk.
I updated all windows updates (except IE 8).
I removed unused Toshiba software offers (trial period software, anti-virus, etc).
    I defragged machine
After this I started to get freeze up, and now I get error on boot:
check system. then press [f1] key.
When f1 key is pressed, it takes me to CMOS, but then keeps wanting to kick me out to "Quit without saving changes".  Errors and functionallity appear to be time dependent...erg system seems to get more "sticky" the longer the computer is on. I suppose this must be hardware issue...I thought maybe the hard drive, but they are expensive and I dont want to be chasing my tail fixing this.
    Thanks for input.

  • Freezing in startup

I have a Satellite R15-S822 that is just over 3 years old.  The other day it started freezing during the startup process but after a few tries I was able to fully start my computer.  It is now to the point that for the past 2 days I am unable to start my computer.  It always boots to the point where I sign in the blue screen.  Sometimes it freezes then and stays on the blue screen saying "loading your personal settings".  Other times it goes further to the point of showing my desktop but never to the point of me accessing folders.  I tried putting my hard drive in an external enclosure to save my files, but it won't let me access my files (I'm guessing because I use a password).  Any advise as to how to at least save my files?  I don't ind restoring my computer to original settings, but I really can't lose my files (I'm in graduate school and haven't been smart enough to backup folders of research).  Please help!
    Cheryl

    hi cheryl!
try to boot to safemode by tapping f8 as soon as you turn on the computer. if you are able to login in safemode, you will be able able to save your files but if you are unable to do so, you need to have specialists backup your data for you. i think toshiba refers the CBL company to do data back. call them at 1-866-382-0633. hope this helps! • Can't find XP audio driver for r15-822

Toshiba website only has the audio driver for vista on my satellite r15-822, but the original OS is windows xp Pro. I found drivers for everything else for windows XP but the audio. Any suggestions?

So you have the Conexant 20585 smartAudio HD. The correct driver is offered by Lenovo here.
See this message in our forums for how to install it. You'll need to adjust the instructions for XP of course.

  • Reformatted R15 with XP, now drivers are missing and internet won't connect

    Hello!
I obtained a Satellite R15 without recovery discs. I kept telling myself that I'd make a set but never got around to it. Recently, I began having problems with my MSOffice 2007 software. I tried to uninstall and reinstall but the files were corrupted and it didn't work. My next step was to purchase the Windows XP tablet edition operating software. I reformatted and installed the software. However, I had to reinstall it 3 times before I was able to get it actually reformat my hard drive. The new system is missing the help center for some reason and was also missing drivers. I went to the Toshiba download center and I downloaded every possible driver/program I could need for an XP operating system and installed them all. Some of them would not work because they wanted to connect to the internet. Some of them did not work because I'm missing an "rpc driver" . I also installed service pack 2 for XP but not service pack 3 because I don't have an internet connection. Initially, the modem, ethernet, sound, video and a few things did not have drivers. Now I have drivers for all of them except one - seems to be for shock absorption software and I can't find it anywhere. I need help.
    1. I still cannot connect to the internet either through an ethernet or wireless
    2. I'd like to have a help center again - I use it once a year or so, but it's nice to know it's there
    3. I am still not able to install MS Office 2007
    4. I'd like to get that software for the shock absorption.
Any advice would be much appreciated!

Is the HDD ok? I would run the Advanced test in Hitachi DFT to ensure is has no bad sectors.
Install the "Toshiba HDD Protection System" driver from the Toshiba website. Common Modules needs to be installed first, its very important.
Is the Office CD scratched? Does it work in other PC's?
Ultimately, you would want a Toshiba Recovery Disc, that way you can be sure the drivers are all installed properly. I believe you can get replacement discs from Toshiba.

  • No Audio device on G31M3-LV2

This one really stumps me.  Just assembled a new system using G31M3-LV2 mainboard and installed Window XP Pro.  I have no audio (HD audio is enabled in the BIOS).  I have installed the Realtek drivers.  When I go to Control Panel>Device Drivers>sound, video and game controller it shows all the usual audio codecs etc. but no audio device  and when I go to the volume control is says "No Audio Device".  I've tried everything and cannot install the audio device.  Am beginning to think the audio portion of the mainboard is dead, everything else working perfectly.
after looking deeper in the forum I answered my own problem.  Installed the microsoft audiobus and problem was resolved
