My saved passwords have disappeared.

My saved passwords have disappeared. I saved a new password, closed Firefox & when I reopened Firefox the new password had also disappeared. What gives?

Did you check the setting of [[Clear Recent History]] ?

  • How do I restore saved passwords that disappeared after update of Firefox?

This is on an Acer laptop running Win 7 home premium

Do you mean names and passwords in the Password Manager or do you mean that you are no longer logged on to (remembered by) websites after closing and restarting Firefox?
*Tools > Options > Security: Passwords: "Saved Passwords" > "Show Passwords"
There is a difference between remembering the name and password in the Password Manager and a "remember me" check box on a web page to log you in automatically.
The latter usually involves the creation of a special "remember me" cookie that is stored on your computer and that is send to the server.
If this "remember me" cookie is removed or gets corrupted or is not send to the server then the server won't remember you and you will have to sign in once again.
You can remove this "remember me" cookie to make the website forget you and require you to sign in again.
    Did you possibly reset/refresh Firefox?
When you reset Firefox then a new profile is created and some personal data (bookmarks, history, cookies, passwords, form data) is automatically imported and the current profile folder will be moved to the desktop to an "Old Firefox Data" folder.
Installed extensions and other customizations (toolbars, prefs) that you have made are lost and need to be redone.
It is possible to recover data from the old profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over problems.

Since upgrading to Mountain King my email folders have disappeared - any ideas how I can get them back?!!

Look along the left hand side of your Mail app.  That side pane has headings like Inbox, Sent, Trash as atandard,  There are also headings that say "Smart Mailboxes" and "On my Mac".  The On my Mac heading should contain the saved mail folders you had.  This keeps the mail you save on your computer.
If you find that heading, click on it and see the word "show" to the right. If you see it, click on the Show word and it should reveal your saved folders.

Do you mean names and passwords in the Password Manager or do you mean that you are no longer logged on to (remembered by) websites after closing and restarting Firefox?
If the latter happens then you have a problem with cookies that are not kept or the file that stores the cookies is corrupted.
Make sure that you do not use [[Clear Recent History]] to clear the "Cookies" and the "Site Preferences"

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • Saved passwords disappear from HP SimplePass vault

Occasionally passwords that I have saved in my HP Simplepass vault disappear from the vault, along with the corresponding Simplepass launch site. Luckily I keep a backup of my Simplepass passwords so I can import the lost passwords again but it is extremely annoying to have to do this all the time. Does anyone have any ideas what is causing some passwords to disappear?

    Hi @Juda_Plasma ,
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I will do my best to assist you. I have read about your HP Pavilion 15-n271ea Notebook and having issues with Simplepass.  Here is a link to troubleshoot the software.
The section I would try first is Update the device driver. The fingerprint reader hardware requires a device driver to allow software to control it and does require an update.
If this does not help I would uninstall the software and reinstall it.
    Hope this helps you.
    Thanks.

  • Saved Passwords disappearing one-by-one, FF 5.0

Since upgrading to Firefox 5.0, '''some''' of my stored passwords are disappearing. Earlier this morning I logged into a webmail site where I have more than one account (with saved password). Later, I went to log on to another account on the site, and I noticed the username/password used earlier, were no longer in the list. I checked in 'Tools - Options - Saved Passwords', and that entry was gone. This has happened to multiple passwords to multiple sites. How can I prevent my passwords disappearing?

-> go to Tools Menu -> Options -> Privacy -> History section -> '''Firefox will: select "Use Custom Settings for History"''' -> REMOVE Checkmark from '''"Permanent Private Browsing mode"''' -> place CHECKMARKS on:
    1) Remember my Browsing History 2) Remember Download History 3) Remember Search History 4) Accept Cookies from sites -> click '''Exceptions...''' button -> click '''Remove All Sites''' at the bottom of "Exception - Cookies" window
4a) Accept Third-party Cookies -> under "Keep Until" select "They Expire" -> click '''Show Cookies''' button -> select the Cookies you want to Delete and click '''Remove Cookies''' -> click '''Close''' button
-> REMOVE CHECKMARK from CLEAR HISTORY WHEN FIREFOX CLOSES
-> '''When using the Location Bar, suggest: select History and Bookmarks'''
-> Click OK on Options window
Check and tell if its working.

I have two faults! 1, an error comes up in Ps CC 2014 "could not apply the saved panel configuration, restring to default and my tools have disappeared completely and anything ive tried I cannot get them back not even the drop down menu in 'window' helps at all. And 2, Lr everytime I load it up it gives me the option to retry or switch to and it takes a while for me to even get anywhere with it I think it has something to do with the catalogs? I've been using these programs for a few years now on a Mac...no problem but when I use a PC when I'm away coz it's the (only) comp available these happen PC's are so useless! Please can anyone help??...

I can give a few suggestions on Photoshop CC 2014, but Lightroom is a separate forum and you should ask Lr questions there.
    First close Photoshop.
Then start Photoshop by double-clicking on it's icon and very quickly after that, hold down the ctrl-alt-shift keys until you see the reset dialog. answer "Yes" to delete settings, and let Photoshop continue to load.
It's tricky to do and may take a few tries, but at least it should reset Photoshop CC 2014 to defaults.

  • Upgraded to 8.3, now auto fill is not working. I have checked, rechecked my info, saved passwords, etc. to no avail. Is this bug in 8.3. Never did this until I upgraded.

Upgraded IPad to to 8.3, now auto fill is not working. I have checked, rechecked "my info", "saved passwords", etc. to no avail. Is this bug in 8.3. Never did this until I upgraded. Wife is not happy I upgraded!

Auto fill works for me in iOS 8.3.
Try the standard troubleshooting steps in this order:
Restart: Press On/Off button until the Slide to Power Off slider appears, select Slide to Power Off and, after It shuts down, press the On/Off button until the Apple logo appears.
Reset: Press the Home and On/Off buttons at the same time and hold them until the Apple logo appears (about 10-15 seconds). No data will be lost.
Restore: Connect your device to iTunes on your computer, backup, and then select Restore to Factory.
See here for more details on restore: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201252
If none of these work your device may have developed a hardware problem. Contact Apple Support: http://www.apple.com/contact/

  • I have FF 3.6.15 on a Macbook with OS 10.6.6, I would like to find a way to add a site, user name & password to the "Saved Password" list by hand so that I don't have to rely on my memory.

Some websites block the FF password save feature. I would like a "work around" so that those sites are automatically sign-on.
There used to be a simple way to do this, but I have not found it in the current version of FF.
Any suggestions? Please send to me at <i><email removed by moderator></i>

  • I have been infected by trove adware, I was able to remove it, but I couldn't get default setting of safari and keeping bookmarks, saved passwords, ..etc

I have been infected by trove adware, I was able to remove it, but I couldn't get default setting of safari and keeping bookmarks, saved passwords, ..etc

There is no need to download anything to solve this problem.
You may have installed the "Trovi," "Conduit," or "SearchProtect" ad-injection malware. Follow the instructions on this Apple Support page to remove it.
Back up all data before making any changes.
Besides the files listed in the linked support article, you may also need to remove these files in the same way:
    ~/Library/Application Support/Firefox/searchplugins/MyBrand.xml
    ~/Library/Application Support/Google/Chrome/External Extensions/fjadmdmahkpbhgbmmkiiaanlnlekelmn.json
    ~/Library/Application Support/Mozilla/Extensions/{ec8030f7-c20a-464f-9b0e-13a3a9e97384}/[email protected]
One of the steps in the article is to remove malicious Safari extensions. Do the equivalent in the Chrome and Firefox browsers, if you use either of those. If Safari crashes on launch, skip that step and come back to it after you've done everything else.
If you don't find any of the files or extensions listed, or if removing them doesn't stop the ad injection, then you may have one of the other kinds of adware covered by the support article. Follow the rest of the instructions in the article.
Make sure you don't repeat the mistake that led you to install the malware. Chances are you got it from an Internet cesspit such as "Softonic" or "CNET Download." Never visit either of those sites again. You might also have downloaded it from an ad in a page on some other site. The ad would probably have included a large green button labeled "Download" or "Download Now" in white letters. The button is designed to confuse people who intend to download something else on the same page. If you ever download a file that isn't obviously what you expected, delete it immediately.
"SearchProtect" may be distributed along with two other applications: "MacKeeper," which is a scam, and "ZipCloud," which, if not actually a scam, has a dubious reputation. Ask if you need instructions to remove those items.
In the Security & Privacy pane of System Preferences, select the General tab. The radio button marked Anywhere  should not be selected. If it is, click the lock icon to unlock the settings, then select one of the other buttons. After that, don't ignore a warning that you are about to run or install an application from an unknown developer.
Still in System Preferences, open the App Store or Software Update pane and check the box marked
Install system data files and security updates (OS X 10.10 or later)
    or
Download updates automatically (OS X 10.9 or earlier)
    if it's not already checked.
