My Scanner is now useless...
have been using a CanoScan 8400F for years with Tiger and then Leopard.
Since upgrading to a new iMac (10.8.2) the OS does not recognize my scanner. I checked with Canon, and they do not have an updated driver. I checked with Vuescan, my scanner is on their list, but their software does not "see" my scanner...
I read a Macworld article ( http://www.macworld.com/article/1168305/get_your_scanner_to_work_with_photoshop_ cs6.html ) dealing with the issue... At the end of the article, dealing with Adobe still not fully compatible with Mountain Lion, they're suggesting that one can still scan via the IMAGE CAPTURE application that comes with the OS. Well, I launched it and still, the scanner (turned on) does not show up as a device on the left panel of the window...
Any suggestions? Thanks....

I had forgotten that TWAIN SANE is a bit of a bear to install and not very straightforward. I had to go through this process when I upgraded to Lion as my CanoScan LiDE 30 was no longer supported (A moot point, now. I've, since, upgraded to a newer multifunction printer/scanner.).
I was able to find these step-by-step instructions that may be able to help with the install. Bottom line, you need to install the "LibUSB", "SANE Backend", "TWAIN SANE Interface", and the "SANE Preference Pane" files from the main page, in that order (you'd think they could come up with an easier way). The backend is specific to your scanner model. Unfortunately, doing a search for the 8400F, it looks like that model may be unsupported. You may be out of luck with this solution.
In my case, my scanner was supported. The install packages, basically, created the needed driver for my scanner. Apple's baked in Image Capture app became the default interface for my scanner (as the compatible CanoScan driver is Power PC). The other caveat was that the external buttons for my scanner no longer worked (the drivers for those are Power PC, no fix for that), but it was a small price to pay for continued functionality.

What a crappy design. This is where Android is so much better. It seems to me like you have no control over your iPhone. It does whatever Apple has designed it to do without asking you first. On Android you can actually go in see all folders, document files, photo files etc and you have so much more control of everything. Apple s..cks!

is my iMac now useless as i have installed lion and i am no longer able to run cs2 photoshop and illustrator as this is all i use my mac for they should make this clear before buying it i can't afford the latest version of cs2 and cant believe what a waste of money it is.
The newest version of CS2 is CS5. And it was made very clear that these applications would not run in Lion. Not only by Apple, but on all sorts of communities and websites. It has been a long time coming - PowerPC apps were outdated six years ago. Lion does not support Rosetta, and therefore not PPC apps.
you have to options. Go back to Snow Leopard or upgrade your software. (MS Office 2004 and older will not run either).

I had to reformat my early 2008 MacBook and have now lost my pre-installed Pages/Keynote/Numbers. I tried to repurchase only my OS is incompatible and Mountain Lion OS will not run on my MacBook. Really annoyed as MacBook is in good condition but now useless to me.^ hahahahahahaha^

Word Processing documents can be opened directly in Pages 4 (AppleWorks 6 only) but this is no longer available from Apple - the new Pages 5 (Mavericks required) does not open AppleWorks documents. Panergy Software's docXConverter v3.2 ($19.95) can convert Appleworks 5 and 6 Word Processing documents to RTF (though it has been reported that it can only handle documents which contain only text, not those which include images or frames). Draw Documents can be opened directly only in EazyDraw (the more expensive version from their website, not the cheaper one from the Mac App Store, and you will need v4.0 'Retro' not the most recent version) or Intaglio (though this appears not to be able to handle very complex drawings). LibreOffice will open simple Draw documents but I found it very unreliable with complex ones.

Nothing will open Database documents. You would need to export the data as ASCII and import it into another database program; you will lose your formatting and calculations will come over as the result, not the calculation.

I recently installed Mountain Lion, now my printer/fax/scanner is useless. If anyone has been able to fully use an HP Officejet J4680 please let me know how to get it to work, I am strongly considering on restoring my iMac to Snow Leopard where I can take advantage of my peripherals.

How do I scan or print with the driver from Apple Software Update?
Depending on your printer and the type of driver update, you might need to scan in a different way than you did before you installed Mountain Lion.
Scan from the Print & Scan window:
Place the item that you want to scan on the scanner glass, or load it into the automatic document feeder (ADF) if your printer has one.
Click the Apple menu (# ), and then click System Preferences .
Click Print & Scan (# ).
Click your printer in the left pane.
Click the Scan tab, and then click Open Scanner .
Click Show Details . The details of the scan display, including options to change scan settings.Figure 5: Show Details scanning screen# Image: Show Details scanning screen
Change any settings as necessary, and then click Scan .
NOTE:
Make sure to select either the Flatbed mode or the Document Feedermode, depending on your printer and how you plan to scan.

My scanner is now unavailable ...
Hi,
I have been using my scanner for a very long time, without any problem. It always works. Since this morning, the Preview app crashes everytime I try to scan a document from the computer (see below the crash report).
I have tried disconnecting the printer/scanner, restarting the computer or the scanner. No changes I scanned from another user ... and it works. I would thing that it points to a software bug in my user.
By reading the crash report, I don't understand what it really means. Do you have an idea ?

I've used Fantastical for a long time. The password issue could be a bad .plist or you need to run Keychain First Aid.
Run Keychain First Aid under Keychain Access.
Open Keychain Access, located in Applications/Utilities
Choose Keychain Access > Keychain First Aid.
Enter your user name and password.
Select Repair and click Start.
If any problems are found run again to verify all repaired.
Delete these preferences in your User's Library.
com.apple.keychainaccess.plist
com.flexibits.fantastical.plist.
Log Out under the Apple in the Menu bar.
Log In
Open Fantastical and setup account. -

OK so now my iCal on my iPhone has been deleted without my permission, is there another app that I can download to sync to my computer's iCal?
Apple has played a nasty trick on me..There never was an iCal app on the iPhone. The calendar app that comes pre-loaded can't be deleted.
Instead of blaming others for your ineptitude, search closely your phone. The app is still there. -
What happened to quicktime Pro on my Macbook (ie. it is now useless)
Hi,
So upon completing a very simple imovie project (30s, 5 clips), I tried to 'share' it and save it as a decent sized quicktime file.
There are no video options avaliable under the expert settings....just audio setings! And, this happens no matter what resolution I choose to start my project (mp4-1080).
Can anyone explain this (apple?)
Is this due to me running imovie on my new Macbook?
further, even if I save the DV file, QUICKTIME PRO IS UNABLE TO EXPORT TO ANY SPECIFICATIONS OTHER THAN "email" and ".mac" (brutally small H264 andas the huge .DV file). As in Quicktime pro is useless.
What gives???

Old Time Capsule backup now useless?
I have a backup from August 10, 2009 right before the HDD failed in my iMac. Well, by the time everything was fixed, I just did a clean install of Snow Leopard and copied files over from a pre-crash clone.
Fast forward a month and everything is fine so I finally format the clone and recone using the current system. My reasoning is "well, I also have the old Time Machine backup in case I miss something" (took the 500Gb HDD out of my TC and installed a nice new 1Tb and put the old one in an enclosure).
Fast forward another month. Sure enough, I found something missing today. So I dutifully plug in the old TM backup and set it as the backup disk. Then, when I "entered Time Machine" none of the old information was there. All I see if "Today" and "Now" with no prior backups. Time Machine does, however, show that the last backup was August 10, 2009 and the sparsebundle file size is about right.

Try a control-click (or click-and-hold) on the Time Machine icon in the Dock, then choose "Browser Other Time Machine disks..." That may give you access to your old backup. -
After the recent chrome update, HP simple pass does not work for it anymore when I try to use it log into sites.
Stoped working for IE a while ago and I don't think it even ever worked with FireFox.
All the fringer print reader is good now for is logging on to computer.
Some i'm guessing we will never get another update from authentec because Apple brought them out?

I understand your fingerprint reader has stopped working after doing a system recovery.
A good place to start would be to check the options for Biometric Support in your Control Panel. You are looking for an option to "Allow users to log in to Windows with there fingerprints." If this is the option that is uncheckable in your post I would suggest going through the document below.
It would be best to go through each step in the order they are listed. Troubleshooting a Fingerprint Reader (Windows 8).
It would also help to know which ENVY product you have. There are two ENVY 1216tx products, the HP ENVY 6-1216tx Sleekbook or, the HP ENVY m6-1216tx Notebook PC.
Please let me know which of these you have to better assist you if the above steps do not resolve your issue, as well as any new information after completing the troubleshooting.

Thanks to your update my phone is garbage!! Someone please tell me how to get lollypop off my phone, can't take pictures in time,battery dies when I walk my dogs! Pages won't load. I now hate my phone, and hate Verizon for putting that update pop up on my phone until I stupidly did it! I either want a new phone, lollypop off this one or cancel my plan with NO penalty..what good is a semi working smart phone who's battery doesn't even let me take my dogs to the beach*
It said New VERIZON update..not HTC update..and YES, I can get out of the contract legally if my smart phone isn't able to do what I purchased/promised it to do.As it was it was no better than an old school flip phone that kept crashing. I did contact VERIZON and they had me do a total back up and reboot of the phone, it seems to be better now, but not back to what it was when I bought it.I will give it a few more days and if things don't improve, the legal battle is on if they don't either replace my phone or end my contract that I am in. I am just trying to warn everyone do NOT update to this all day sucker lollypop!

No arabic keyboard on al mawrid app even after selecting one. £30 app now useless!
Use the Al Mawrid Dictionary app to help me study. For some reason I cannot select the arabic keyboard as there is now no globe symbol on the keyboard. all other apps still have this symbol. Have tried resetting and reloading the app but no joy.£30 app so very frustrated.

Have you tried contacting the people who make the app? They are the ones who are most likely to be able to solve any problems it has (and probably the only people who can).
If you select the Arabic keyboard for another app like Notes before starting this one, does the keyboard appear in Arabic as you need it to? -
Ipod Touch 2G now 'useless' after attempting the IOS4
Hopefully Apple have an inclination ho to resolve this. My 2G Touch was fine and for months I didnt bother with the IOS 3 upgrade as I 1) didnt want to pay for it and 2) didnt think I would use many of the features. However after finding more and more apps needed the new software I decided to do it today. To my surprise, the IOS 3 was now replaced with IOS 4 and it was free......result. I followed the instrcutions and while it attempted to load the drivers......it couldnt and I cannot recover my Ipod. Device isnt recognised now when I plug in the USB. I get yellow exclamation marks for the apple mobile device recovery driver.My Touch,no matter what I do has a picture of a USB cable on it.I have uninstalled and reinstalled Itunes.........all to no avail. Any help would be great..........PLEASE
Sorry you have had so many problems. You are going to need to tackle this one step at a time.
PC
1. You must have at least Windows XP, service pack 2.
2. Use Control Panel to delete all Apple Software - iTunes, Apple Mobile Device Services, QuickTime, etc.
3. Reboot your computer
4. Download and install iTunes 9
5. Turn off anti-virus and download the iOS4 update
6. Turn off your firewall before you begin the the update process on your touch
iPod touch
1. Make sure it is unplugged from your computer
2. Hold down the Sleep/Wake button and turn it off (it may not respond to this)
3. Start iTunes on your computer
4. Press and hold the Home button on your touch. Keep holding this button down and plug your touch back into your computer. Keep holding it until iTunes says "an iPod has been detected in recovery mode".
5. Follow the on screen instructions.
