My screen is freezing with broken pixels and lines

iMac i7 2.93Ghz 12gb DDR3 memory Running 10.7.5. Start Up Disc Lion HD
The issue appears to be random. Started a couple of months ago. The screen starts to freeze, mouse no longer works and unable to force quit apps or shut down normally and appears pixelated with various lines across the screen.
I can t say what triggers it and it seems to happen even when just a few minor apps are open like mail and Firefox.
The computer does seem to run hot and starts to work harder it seems.
The only way to resolve the freeze up is to hard shut down then pull the plug out of the power on wall and use the Pram key strokes to reboot. If I don't zap the pram or remove  the power plug it wont re start.
Hopefully I can attach a picture here.
Any info as to how to fix would be happilly recieved
Jackie

Pretty much have the same problem! Everything work, but always got the pixels blinking all over the screen, until the whole computer freeze (or at least the screen) and I have to reboot it. I can reboot with the button and my gear works (mouse etc) Had to buy a new mouse recently though. Don't know if it has anything to do with the comp.
The comp seems to work way better in games (Heroes of Newerth) where the pixels are all gone. The comp. also seems to be a bit slower than usual overall, thinking at random.

  • When i open my computer I get the white screen with apple symbol and there are vertical lines all over the screen with green pixels and after a few minutes the screen gets grey and I get message to restart my computer what happens

    3 years ago I bought an IMac Desktop that I am using for a lot of things but the most important for dvd montage in Imovies and Idvd.
    Now today when I opened my computer I get as usual the white screen with the Apple symbol but there were all over the screen vertical lines with green pixels and after a while the screen gets grey and I get message to restart my computer using the power button or the restart button and when I do so each time the same is happening somebody can tell me what is happening and what caused this. This computer is my work and now I have no income anymore.
    On the Apple support site they are asking to enter the serial number and when I do so I get message it is wrong but it is the only one I have and I buy this computer in Cairo Egypt. I am living in Hurghada in Egypt for the moment. When I call the technical support of the shop where I buy it they are telling me that it is the hard disk or ram and that I probably lost everything on it and they are asking a big amount to repair.
    Can somebody advise me on this matter. Thanks in advance

    You can find the serial number either in About this Mc in the Menu bar under the , or it should be on a sticker under the foot of the machine.
    If you have the install discs, try booting from them, holding down the c key and then using Disk Utility to check the drive.
    You can also boot into Safe mode
    To start up into Safe Mode (to "Safe Boot"), do this:
       1. Be sure the computer is shut down.
       2. Press the power button.
       3. Immediately after you hear the startup tone, press and hold the Shift key.
          Tip: The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone but not before.
       4. Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple and progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
    During the startup in Mac OS X 10.2 through 10.3.9, you will see "Safe Boot" on the Mac OS X startup screen.
    During the startup in Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you will see "Safe Boot" on the login window, which appears even if you normally log in automatically.
    Please post back with results,
    To leave Safe Mode in any version of Mac OS X, restart the computer normally, without holding any keys during startup.

    Hi @segoopa ,
    Thank you for your inquiry, I will do my best to assist you!
    I understand that after installing the Pes 2014 game you now see pixels and lines in your display.
    The game installation may have changed the resolution of the display for your game but did not revert it back when you closed it out.  Here is a link to Resolving Problems with Notebook Displays (Windows 7 and Windows 8) to assist you in overcoming this difficulty.

  • TS1367 when the white start screen comes on with the apple and spinning wheel but underneath it there is a bar. Once the bar fills up my MacBook goes off what is that? What do I do?

    start screen comes on with the apple and spinning wheel but underneath it there is a bar. Once the bar fills up my MacBook goes off what is that? What do I do?

    Have you tried a safe start by holding the shift key when you boot? If that works, and it can take a while to complete, see if a regular boot now works. If it does, you need to free up space on your hard drive.
    If a safe boot doesn't work, you need to either boot from an OS X DVD or go into target disk mode to connect via firewire cable to another mac to free up space on your hard drive. You need 5GB min, with 10% to 15%, or more, better, for systems usage.  If you have a backup, move some data files to it, erase them and empty the trash.

  • Mavericks freezing with spinning symbol and strange screen after forcing restart

    Hi,
    My Mac has freezed (or almost that) and showed the spinning symbol (in gray). I couldn't use, so I forced the restart.
    After that, I've received a strange screen that I've never seen in my life, with a folder and a "?" inside it:
    I noticed that the freeze happened exactly at the same time my Internet connection got lost, because my Apple TV has also stopped (but not freezed).
    I've been experiencing problems with Mavericks since the begining ( https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5836640 ), and I'm seriously considering downgranding to ML.
    I'll appreciate any help on this. Thank you so much.

  • Screen freeze with odd squares and occasional crashing

    I've had my new IMac 27" (2.66 Ghz i5) for a couple of weeks and it's crashed more times than Windows Vista ever did (about 7 times so far). Every now and again, the screen freezes (sound keeps going) and strange squares appear. The only solution is to hard reboot using the on/off switch.
    Today it had trouble starting up again, requiring 2 or 3 goes before coming back to life.
    Help! Any suggestions/fixes? Is this a common problem?

    Thanks for this. Just taken a look at the Console log and the following is listed at the time of the latest crash:

  • The screen on my ipod touch is white all over and black in the upper right hand corner only with color dots and lines run to the left hand side but stop in the middle. how do i fix it?

    right now it is the middle of april and i bought the ipod at the beging of Agust the year befor so it still has not been a year. currently it is thursday and the screen changed to the white and black corner on the monday earlier in the week (so 4 days ago). i had just broken up with my gril friend and we were fighting. in anger i through my ipod at the wall. i was aiming for my pillow on my bed so it would hit something soft but i missed and it hit the hard concrete wall in my room. when i looked at my ipod it had turn itself off and when turn on the screen was white with a little black in one corner. i have tryed to restart it by holding down the power and home button till it restarted but the screen only got brighter and then eventually went back the the brightness it was before and turn off. i can still turn the screen on but cant unlock. i know it is still working cause my alram still goes off in the morning. the ipod is a 4th generation ipod touch 16 GB memory and is black. can this be fixed at home on my own or do i have to take it in to apple. can apple even fix it or is my ipod past the point of repair. any advice would be nice. thanks in advance.

  • MSI K9A2CF-F freezes with MSI NX8400GT and NX8500GT

    Hi, all
    I've a brand new mainboard K9A2CF-F with an AMD Phenom 9500 and a NX8400GR video card. Windows is running fine but when using 3D the machine freezes, sometimes it also freezes with 2D activities. Today I changed the card for a NX8500GT-TD512Eh but I've got the same problem. When I put a Ge-force 6200 in my computer the machine runs fine but this card is pretty slow.
    Things I did, reinstalled windows, latest updates, latest nvidia driver, bios upgrade to v1.2, vga bios was allready the latest, changes psu with a heavier one.
    Now i've got the vga card in the second pcie slot and strange enough the computer is running now for almost 30 minutes. Maybe is it something with running at 16x. But what could this be that the machine crashes at 16x?

    Can it be the PSU? It's now running the whole evening in the PCIe 8x slot without any crash. Is it consuming more power when running at 16x speed bus?
    First tested PSU is an Mtek 350Watt.
    3V = 14A
    5V = 30A
    12V = 15A
    The other one is an SumVision 400W
    3.3V = 26A
    5V = 30A
    12V = 15A
    They indeed have the same 12V current of 15A.
    At the moment in the machine
    1x MSI K9A2CF with Pehnom 9500 (bios in fail safe settings)
    1x MSI NX8500GT
    1x DDR PC6400 2GB
    1x SATA2 harddrive
    1x DVD player
    1x casefan
    at last i'm running dual screens but it also freezes when running a single monitor

    Start here: http://www.apple.com/support/iphone/troubleshooting/
    You will probably arrive at the point in which you must restore the iPhone. If you do here is the procedure. Follow it exactly:
    Disconnect the USB cable from the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
    Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.If you cannot turn off the device using the slider, press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. When the device turns off, release only the Sleep/Wake button.
    Continue pressing and holding the Home button while you reconnect the USB cable to the device. The device should turn on.
    Note: If you see the "low battery" screen, let the device charge for at least ten minutes to ensure that the battery has some charge, and then start with step 2 again.
    Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen. When this screen appears (iTunes icon and USB connector) release the Home button.
    If necessary, open iTunes. You should see the "recovery mode" alert ("iTunes has detected a phone in recovery mode").
    Use iTunes to restore the device.
    If you do not see the "Connect to iTunes" screen, try these steps again. If you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen but the device does not appear in iTunes, see this article and its related links.
    Select the device in iTunes and choose "restore from backup".
