My screen is really dim... Hmmm

So my phone got a little wet this week in the rain. I lost all audio and video/imaging abilities. I dried my phone out for the week, in a bag of rice, which I have heard workes great. That seemed to do the trick for my audio, because it has come back. But now my problem seems to be my screen. Some visibility has returned, but it is very, very dim (can only be seen under a lamp or other light). Could this mean that my LCD isn't functioning correctly, or would it be another problem? Any help is greatly appreciated.

ok here is the problem
most people think the bag of rice will help you with water damaged
wrong!!!, ok not 100% wrong but 98% wrong
i fix iphones or buy broken iphones for parts
so i notice that water + electrical component = rust
specially copper or connectors + water = rust 100%
i always trying to say to people
after water damage
turn it off
dont just let it dry
take it to someone who can take it appart
clean with electronic parts cleaner and put it back together after
i would said that 55% of the water damaged iphone might be saved if clean the water out within 24 hours
remember as soon as the water is in contact with metal or electrical component
rust will start
just look at the usb port after water damaged and let it dry for a while
you might see the pins are green or rusted
as your LCD being dim
4 possible problem
1- LCD has gone bad
2- LCD connector has rusted pins
3- Mainboard connector to LCD has rusted pins
4- mainboard video chip has rusted pins or areas

  • My screen is really dim and I cant brighten it. Could the problem be my LCD

I got the phone off of Craigslist and the person said the phone was in great condition but the screen is so dim I can barely see the icons under a light and was wondering if maybe the LCD was broke or had water damage or something

    Hey there,
I'm new here but I got a lot of info under my belt with apple products.
Have you tried adjusting the brightness? at the home screen tap settings then brightness. From there use the slide bar to adjust te screen brightness. It couldnt be possible to be damaged by being dim. If it were damaged it would have different colors or unresponsive. Hope this helps you my friend!

  • My ipad screen is really dim. I went into the settings and put the brightness all the way up. It didnt make the screen any brighter. How do i fix this??

I need help to solve this problem.

It's possibly a hardware issue. You could try a reset and see if that helps : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot. If that doesn't fix it then you could try restoring to your backup and/or resetting back to factory defaults, but you will probably have to contact Apple.

        Jeffdesersa,
Don't worry, ok? This is scary to see but we will help fix it for you. How are you trying to activate the phone? Have you tried connecting the phone to a computer and using iTunes to activate it? Activating that way may just do the trick!

  • Screen not auto dimming correctly

I started to have an issue when the playbook auto dims the screen goes to a very light black/ dark greyish screen when i turn it back on the screen is really dark and the screen is not normal. I have to turn off the PB by pushing the power button then turning it back on to correct issue.  anyone know how to fix this annoying issue?
I use my playbook for work all day long so i use word and excell

Try putting your thumb over the LED. If it does it then, it is the auto dim which can be turned off in settings.
It is designed to dim the screen when indoors or at night to reduce glare, but it is all or nothing and often dims at an inopportune time. Try it, it's. Settings, Screen.

  • Macbook pro 2011 screen doesn't dim all the way in part of the screen

    Hi, all--
This is really puzzling me so I hope someone can help me out. My Macbook Pro 13 inch (2011, Sept.) screen, when you dim it about halfway or less, shows something like a yellowish splotch in the middle of the screen, the size of around 4 quarters clustered in the middle. It was to the point where I could easily read the text on the screen even though the rest of the screen was pitch black. Now it's less pronounced (it was really bad about 5 minutes ago) but the middle of the screen is still readable even when the rest of the screen is black.
Does anyone know why this is, or why it might have gotten so obvious earlier? It was so bad that when the screen dimmed automatically there was literally this yellowish cast in the middle such that it wouldn't dim.
    Please help!
    Thanks.

That's not normal, and I've not experienced this with two MBPs. I would suggest you visit your local Apple Store/Genius Lounge so that they can repair the problem. In any case, post here with your results; I'm sure fellow users would profit from the information!

  • Thinkpad W500 screen - seems very dim. typical? faulty?

Having issues with the apparent brightness of my Lenovo W500 (suspected Samsung display) in reasonable ambient light levels,  I thought I'd try measuring the lux with a tool I found at  ->http://www.tuug.fi/~toni/serendipity/index.php?/archives/12-Luxus-light-meter-desktop-widget-for-N90...  -- just for a more objective, albeit uncalibrated view on brightness.
In each case I placed the proximity sensor directly over the panel, so it was around 5cm "in" from the edge & displayed an all-white window.
    Here's my rough results
    Lenovo W500 (full)                            R=083 L=063 T=060
    Dell 2005fp desktop (normal)                  R=151 L=155 T=142
    old? HP 17" 4:3 (normal)                      R=157 L=143 T=180
    Dell Studio 15 1920 laptop led (in dark room) R=104 L=111 T=110
    Dell Studio 15 1920 laptop led (full)         R=214 L=212 T=226
    Dell Studio 17 laptop led (full)              R=300 L=314 T=297
    ? HP 19" unknown (low lighting)               L=098 R=107 T=113
    ? HP 19" unknown (full)                       L=138 R=153 T=162
From this "comfortable" is IMO in the region 130-150 - the W500 fals way way below this.
    Has anyone else measured?
    What's reasonable?
I believe the spec is around 175-180 -- but that's obviously a calibrated test
The dell 2005fp is rated at 300 yet I score 150 above (though this is NOT on max, just normal)
The dell studio 17 is rated around 317 on full -- and the score above shows this as close
I can only conclude therefore my measurements are in the right ball park
The W500 is on full brightness & using the appropriate monitor.inf under win 7
What I should really do is have a proper colorimiter calibration and measurement done.
The "spec" of the W500 panel is 180-200 I believe - it's clearly not fair to use the numbers literally, but something is very very wrong.
Does this suggest my panel is faulty? To be honest I don't think I've seen a "good" W500 but I wonder if it meets the spec?
Anyone else fancy measuring a "current" laptop for comparison -- especially any other W500 owners (some of which have samsung panels, some have LG panels)

I no longer have W500 but I do remember screen being very dim. Notebookcheck measured a much higher value (130 on average?) even in comparison to other notebooks so I also suggest you try to get a replacement. I guess it is ok to use the manufacturer values when reporting a faulty screen.

  • T61p WUXGA screen is kinda dim, is this normal?

I just got a factory refurbished T61p with a WUXGA screen.  In case you're wondering, the laptop was in a sealed Lenovo box with the original Lenovo seal tape so I'm pretty sure its genuine Lenovo refurbished.  I got it from techforless.
Anyway, compared to my cheap R61i WXGA, the screen is a bit dimmer.  Not sure if this is normal or the backlighting might not be performing to spec.  I'm not a big fan of super bright screens but this definitely feels dim even for me.  I've double checked the backlight setting and its maxed out.  I'll run a calibration on it tomorrow and post the actual value for white at max but I'm pretty sure its ~100 cd/m2 or less going by eye.
Working in total darkness is ok but anything else and it seems lacking.

the WUXGA lcd on the T61p is dimmer than the WXGA LCD of the R61i, but it should be usable. If it is really dim, then this may mean the LCD could have been used quite extensively prior to the refurb. You should call up the store where you bought it from, or get warranty to replace the LCD.

  • Screen brightness to dim and unable to adjust using slider and buttons

hey guys ive had my macbook air about a week now and one night the screen decided to turn really dim all of a sudden i assumed this was due to me shutting down however the next day wen i turned it on again the screen was just as dim and when i try to adjust the brightness setting via the slider in prefrences or the f1 and f2 buttons nothing is happening,
have any of you had the same problem if so how did you get it solved
    cheers

you have to reopen the display adjustment in the System preferences, and Un-click the Automatically Adjusts Button. I kinda like this feature, but not all do, its an Apple thing, takes a bit of getting used to, saves the eye strain. I have noticed, as I am blind in my right eye, and tunnel vision in my left. that this is really good , and helps me a lot..

  • My iPhone screen is exceptionally dim, help?

So I woke up this morning, and my iPhone screen has gona really dim. I can see the screen and everything works fine, but I have to look really hard and cover the screen with my hand to see what is going on. I've done the obvious by turning the screen brightness up and that didn't work at all. I've restored my phone but that didn't do anything either.
The screen is dimmer than when it's on the lowest brightness setting.
What can I do so I can see it more easily?
    Many thanks.

i can hear you but no appearance of anything on the screen

  • Screen went dark/dim.  How do I fix it?

    2nd generation iTouch.
Screen went dark/dim (can barely read it under a light).
Any ideas on how to fix it?

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • My 4th generation iPod nano was washed, screen is super dim, how can I fix this?

So a few months ago, I accidentally left my blue 4th generation iPod nano in my pant pocket. My clothes were set to wash with the iPod in my pants. I'd completely forgot about it being in there. After finding out what had happened, I let the iPod soak in a jar of rice for about a month. I took it out to see if anything had worked but it wouldn't turn on.
Thinking it might need a charge, I plugged it in and found that it turns on only while it's plugged in and instantly turns off when unplugged. I also noticed that the screen is extremely dim, even when put on full brightness. It's as if I turned the brightness all the way down, even though I'm putting it all the way up. I also tried connecting it to iTunes to try to see what I could find. The attempt was unsuccesful as the iPod went unrecognized on iTunes v10.5.
I'm not sure what else I could do to fix this. Has anything similar to this happened to you before?
Also, I have a 4th generation iPod touch and iPhone 4. I honestly don't need this iPod at all, but it'd still be nice to get it fixed for extra use.
Thanks for any help in advance!
    -Tony

I would recommend taking it in to your local Apple Store to see what the people at the Genius Bar can do for you.

  • After listening to NPR for about a minute, screen fades to dim, then to black then stops playing.

After listening to NPR for about a minute, screen fades to dim, then to black then stops playing.
I have to open the phone again, the player is still visible, so I start playing again and the same sequence happens about 1:10 later and on and on.
I thought it might be the facebook thing so I deleted my facebaook account from my iphone, restarted the iphone (reboot) and it still does the same thing.
What am I missing here? I don't see any screen saver settings or anywhere else I can stop this fom happening. I reach NPR on the Google search app.
    Could that have a connection?
Thanks!  Iphone 4s and IOS 6.0.1

That's why this is happening, you're not using an app designed to run in the background. Look in the app store to see if NPR has a dedicated app. If so, & you use their app, it should run in the background. The only other way to stop this would be to set Auto-Lock to "Never". However, if you did that, you'll be measuring your battery life in minutes.

  • IPhone was in my pocket and my pants got wet...now the screen is very dim

Hi - I had my iPhone in my jeans pocket and I got soaked. The iPhone had a protective plastic covering on it. Everything seems to be working but the screen is very dim. Can anyone offer any advice or suggestions on how or if this can be fixed?

Another alternative is silica gel pacs which may be a more effective drying agent. Turn the phone off and leave the phone in a sealed bag with the gel pacs or rice for at least 5 days before tying it again. Never use direct heat such as a hair dryer.

If this doesn't fix it, Apple will replace your out of warranty iPhone (including water damaged phones) for $199.
