It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer for just such an occasion.

Are you able to select the text in Word by triple-clicking inside the text box? (Sometimes text selections can be tricky in converted files.) If you can't select the text, then I'm guessing that the PDF was created from a scanned file (so the text becomes images). Make sure that OCR is enabled when you convert the file to Word. OCR is enabled by default in the ExportPDF web interface, but can be disabled in Adobe Reader. If you're converting to Word from within Adobe Reader, make sure that OCR is enabled and that the correct language is selected:

drag the file to the desktop, then using the menu item "File > Get Info…"
in the "Open With" section select "Mail" from the list and then click the "Change All…" button to make Mail the default application for all .eml files

Apple drives in MacBooks do not support mini DVDs. They cannot be injected or ejected properly. Some of them work in tray-loaders like on the Mac Pro.

I get diverted from common websites clicked from hypertext transfers - it goes to a "cannot find" page with preferred sites -- site address begins with "urlseek80..." The sites I want are large and well-known -- many are CBC Canada What can I do?

I use the CBC.ca site every day and have done so for years -- recently, when I attempt to raise it -- usually from my "bookmarks" list -- I get a "can't find.." message and find myself on a "urlseek80..." site with lits of suggestions of sites I may want to go to instead. -- Am I being hijacked? what can I do to avoid this diversion? This is not the only website I have this problem with.

This is just unacceptable, and if this was my purchase I would be equally upset. If an employee promises a call to a customer they should be making that call, and you should have been given an accurate explanation as to why these deliveries were being rescheduled.
The only times a BestBuy.com order would be automatically cancelled by us would be if it was set to be picked up in one of our stores, and it wasn’t picked up in a timely manner; the only other time would be if an order was on backorder for a period of time without the customer requesting us to extend this backorder.

On computer, at the top of this page is a Tab for iTunes, click it, make sure iTunes is up to date. Also make sure computer Fire Wall and Anti Virus do not interfere with iTunes, turn them OFF to be certain.

How did you try 'cleaning' your disk? Did you use Disk Utility>First Aid and Verify and Repair the HDD?
