My screen won't work

RE: MacBook Pro 2.4GHz
Hi
My screen turned off about a month ago however I could tell that my laptop was still on. I booked it in at the genius bar (Manchester Arndale, UK) where they connected it to an external monitor and sure enough i could see my display on the external monitor. The guy at apple said it would be £360 to repair.
I thought that was a bit expensive and went home. After a short while my screen came back on and the picture was clean and crisp!
Great I thought. Since then it has been on and off, on and off about 30 or 40 times in the space of about a month. It has been off for between 5 minutes and a few hours each time before coming back on to it's usual excellent self. There is no time when the display looks poor, it is either on perfectly or off.
The strange thing is when off and open, the laptop display screen is black, when I turn it on the screen changes subtly to a very dark blue/black colour.
The display has not come on now for over 12 hours, so I am starting to worry!
When i attach an external monitor I can use my laptop as normal, but it is very inconvenient.
I have read about the problem with the GeForce 8600M GT graphics card, which my laptop has, could it be this?
I don't want to replace the display as I think this is fine, when it works, could it be a lose connection?
Any help will be greatly appreciated
Thanks

Yes I followed your advice and went to the ifixit website. Here is the link to the repair tutorial http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Repair/Installing-MacBook-Pro-15-Inch-Core-2-Duo-Mod els-A1226-and-A1260-Display-Data-Cable/1312/1
They were selling the cables on the ifixit webite for $49 but I bought one off ebay for £20 http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Macbook-Pro-15-Display-Data-Cable-A1226-A1260-/25072177408 7?pt=UK_Computing_Apple_Mac_Accessories&hash=item3a602eaa07#ht_665wt_907
Fingers crossed it is all ok and no more problems!

IOS7 installed OK to my iPhone 4S and worked OK for a while but I have somehow managed to completely jam my iPhone 4s. The touch screen won't work except for up and down gestures (some of the time). I can't make or answer calls, I can't even power if off. I can't access the hardward ID which Apple support seems to require for Chat.
It might have happened when I was accessing my camera bypassing the lock screen!
All I know is that the thing is now useless and it looks like I will have to wait for the battery to run down to see if powering it back up afterwards will solve the problem.

I have since discovered the "hold down home key and power button" together for a few seconds and this seems to have worked .... phew!

Did the trick!  Not sure what I did to cause the screen to go numb, but this worked perfectly!!!  I cleaned the screen and must have inadvertently selected something that locked the screen.  This perfect solution kept me from having to run to the Apple Store.  Many thanks.

    Try resetting the iPod:
Reset iPod touch:  Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Next try connecting the iPod to your computer and restoring the iPod from backup via iTunes.
    - If itunes does not see the iPod, see if placing the iPod in recovery mode will make it visible so you can restire it.  For recovery mode see:

  • Satellite A300 - screen won't work sometimes

Ok so first of all I want to start by telling you that I am a complete noob when it comes to computers, and also my native language is not english, but i'll try my best to make you understand my problem.
Sometimes, when I try to turn on my laptop, the screen won't work. I hear the fan running, those little lights on the keyboard light up, but the screen just remains black...this happened for like 3 days until today, I got home and it magically worked. This same thing happened like a month ago...what is going on? :s

On this virtual way it is not easy to offer exact diagnostic.
What we can do here is nothing but speculation about possible reasons.
A300 is not the newest model so there can be some problem with connection between mainboard and the display.
Next time when this happen, try to move display or press gently the notebook below the display just to see if this will help or not.
At the end I must say that only service can help you with this. With other words they can disassemble the notebook and check the display cable.

  • My iPad screen won't work

I have an iPad 2 and recently it has stopped working all of a sudden. When i press the power button on my iPad, it turns on but it is just a blank screen and when i turn it off it flashes white. Sometimes when i turn it on my wallpaper flashes on the screen for a split second but goes right back to the blank screen so i know that the screen isn't broken. I have tried charging it, holding down the power button to shut it down completely and I've tried holding down both the power button and the home button, nothing works. When i try to sync it to iTunes it asks me to type my passcode in on the iPad but i can't because it won't work.
    Any ideas?

    Hello Nathan_J_M,
Thank you for choosing Apple Support Communities. i am very pleased to help you.
Reset to factory settings via recovery mode
So, what you'll have to do is enter recovery mode and fully reset your iPad. Yes, you will lose all your data, but it's better than buying an iPad and wasting a hog lots of money pit. If you have a backup, it will be great.
    Entering recovery mode:
Force your iPad to shut down. Press and hold on both power button and home button at the same time until your iPad turns off. Now, follow my steps:
    •1: Get your PC/Mac ready
•2: On that PC/Mac, make sure you have the latest version of iTunes
•3: Connect the large end of the charger in the computer, but not the small end. (Connect this end to the computer:)
•4: Open iTunes on your PC/Mac
•5: Now that you're on iTunes, get the small side of the cable (the one to connect to the iPad with) and get ready
•6: Press the home button on your iPad, while your pressing the home button, plug in the other small part of the iPad quickly to your iPad. Keep pressing the home button to your iPad until you see this:
You are now in recovery mode. Restore your iDevice to factory settings. If you have a backup, restore your iPad from that backup or you'll lose everything on that device. Sadly, if you don't have a backup, everything will be gone, that includes photos, apps, contacts, etc.
for more information on how to enter recovery mode on your iPad, go here: If you can't update or restore your iOS device

  • Upgraded to 2.0.1 and the top screen won't work with some of the apps

Ever since I upgraded to 2.0.1, when I open any of the applications the top part of the screen won't respond with some of the applications. I know that the screen is working and not damaged because on the main menu application prompt I can click into the apps on the top part of the screen, but as soon as I get inside some of the applications weather it be the ipod or texting the top part of the screen won't respond. Anyone else have this problem and have solution for the problem

I had a similar issue when I upgraded last night to 2.0.1...everything went fine no issues last night that I could see...though I didn't make a single call until this morning after doing the upgrade...went to call in to work this morning and couldn't hear them they couldn't hear me and there was no sound whatsoever...turns out that somehow the 2.0.1 update caused my iPhone to go into a staus where it though it had my headphones in all the time...this resolved by following the information on this support document ( http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1630?viewlocale=en_US ) finally was a reset of the iPhone (step #7) that seemed to resolve it for me...you might want to try this too.

  • Encore WT8 touch screen won't work, prevents me from logging in

I have just bought this tablet but it is a Dabs refurbished model, so not sure of its history. I went through the setup process and brought it on holiday. I discovered that once it was setup, every time it went into sleep mode or was powered off, the touch screen became unresponsive after it powered back up. I don't have an OTG cable, or a keyboard/mouse for that matter. In a small town where it won't be possible to buy one. May just have to wait until I get back and can use a cable and keyboard to log in. Not sure what the pattern is but from time to time, it has reacted to touch and allowed me to log in. When it did, I performed all windows updates, including drivers that were suggested. I have an old XP laptop which I am using now and once when I plugged it in via USB, it got the screen working for long enough to let me log in but that won't work now.  I tried to log in from my Lumia using RDP but it says it can't. May just be the version of 8.1 that's on the tablet.  I can get into the BIOS menu and the touch screen works in there. It is at V2.00 and the tablet is a PDW0AE-00900PEN Any other suggestions or should I give up and enjoy my holiday?

The screen rotates as normal. I tried resetting the device but it doesn't work. In the device manager, it shows that the I2C HID device has a problem. It fails to start. This doesn't change after a reset. I dug a little deeper and the driver is hidi2c.sys. There doesn't seem to be a newer version of the driver. I did some reading and found people commenting that Toshiba aren't very good at fixing this sort of driver issue. it also may be that a windows update has caused a conflict which may be fixed by Microsoft. Either way, I can't see any way for me to fix this besides resetting my tablet to factory and preventing windows updates. I may do that once I am somewhere with more resources around me.

  • Touch screen won't work, and it's on lock

I have this ipod that I've been trying to fix for someone, as well as load up songs from itunes. I've successfully synced songs to it to it's full capacity (8G). However, when it was done, I ejected it and tried to listen to it to see if it was working properly. The screen is locked, as well as the touch screen isn't working as if it's completely dead. I've never had this problem as I am familiar with Ipod Touches and Nanos. Does anyone have any remedies or suggestions?? Gonna try other things in the meantime.

Hi Wazzup483, Im having the same problem you had. Screen locked, touch screen not responding and it won't stop playing music. It licked while I was listening to music. Took out my pocket and it was locked, guess I hit something.
    HELP :o)
    Thanks

  • Full screen won't work in iTunes 9 at resolution greater than 1152

I just installed iTunes 9 and with my resolution set at 1280x1024, which I've had it at for years (running Win XP Pro), I cannot get Full Screen feature to work. If I set the resolution to 1152x864 or lower it works fine. I've had no problems with Full Screen on any of the earlier versions that feature it.

Uninstalled iTunes 9 and reinstalled 8. I guess I'll wait until apple puts out a version that's not a piece of ****.
