My Script Crashes After Effects - Blitpipe Error

Hi,
I have written a script for After Effects that opens a Dialog Window. It works fine the first time, but when I try a second time, it crashes with the following error. There's a lot going on with the script, so I'm not sure which part of the script is crashing After Effects. Does this error message give any indication of what it could be?
One other detail - it doesn't happen with my PC, but it is happening on my Mac.
Thank you.

Hi, can`t tell you without script example.

  • After Effects warning: Error parsing properties list.

    Hi all,
    I got this error message today when I got back to work from over the weekend. This is the first time I have seen this error and have had no real luck finding any good fix for it.
    this is the error message:
    After Effects warning: Error parsing properties list.
    I am running Windows XP Professional, Version 2002 Service Pack 2, with AMD Opteron(tm) Processor 250, 2.39GHz, 2.00 GB Ram
    The error message pops up in a small box with the above message, I hit ok to close the box and nothing happens and I double click AE again to open it and it opens with just the top navagation bar and the rest of the window is grey. It does not open completely and If I click anything it crashes. Giving me a message about it can't continue and to contact adobe support for know issues.
    Has anyone had this problem and if so whats the best fix?????
    THANKS so Much in advance!
    David

    Start by quitting After Effects and clearing the entire preferences folder. I.e., delete the entire   /Users/username/Library/Preferences/Adobe/After Effects/12.2/   folder when After Effects is not running.

  • Element 3D is crashing After Effects?

    Hello everybody!
    I recently purchased Video Co-Pilot's plugin for Adobe After Effects, Element 3D, but much to my amiss, it does not work. The first time I tried to open the scene setup, it said, "Element 3D has encountered an unrecoverable error."
    I closed After Effects, and opened it back in hopes of trying again. But this time, when I apply Element 3D to a solid, it tells me "After Effects has stopped working" and I am forced to close the program.
    Nothing has changed yet, every time I try to add Element 3D to a solid it crashes After Effects. I updated my graphics driver, re-installed Element 3D, everything I can think of, but to no avail.
    If anyone could offer some speculance as to what's happening, that would be amazing.
    My system specs:
    Acer Aspire 5349
    2 GB RAM
    250 GB HDD
    Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit
    DirectX 11
    Intel HD Graphics

    Thank you so much for responding!
    After Effects actually runs very well on my PC, considering I do have the minimum requirements. I am able to run Optical Flares, as well as Trapcode Particular perfectly.
    I'm fairly young, so I apologize, but how can I update my graphics card to meet Element 3D's requirements?
    Thank you all for you help.
    My Graphics specs. Not sure if this will help, but I thought I'd post anyway.

  • Cannot prevent ExtendScript debugging while running scripts from After Effects

    Hi,
    I am facing this issue while running scripts from within After Effects. Whenever I am trying to run a script in After Effects, the script opens up in ESTK in the debug mode. The execution waits at the starting point of the script as if there is breakpoint even though there is none. I am not sure whether what I am missing, whether some debug flag needs to be reset etc. I am using After Effects CC on Windows 7 OS. Any help would be highly appreciated.
    Thanks.

    I tried running the script after removing all $.writeln() statements, but unfortunately that does not resolve the problem. For testing the issue, I am trying with the simple script given below :
    var window = new Window ("palette", "My Window", undefined);
    var panel = window.add("panel", undefined, "Panel");
    var text = panel.add("statictext", undefined, "Testing AE");
    window.show();
    But executing even this one from AE opens up ESTK. I am absolutely stuck with this odd behaviour .

  • After Effects warning: Error with directory?

    Okay so recently I was having issues with text layers not displaying properly, and I posted here and found that the solution was to recreate my preferences file. However, since then I have been getting an error while starting AE that says "After Effects warning: Error with directory:
    C:\Documents and Settings\Brandon\Application Data\Adobe\After Effects\8.0\MediaIO". Is there a way to fix this without returning to old preferences file that gave me the original problem?

    And what happens, if you simply delete the error? The directory itself is not that important, as it merely holds presets and caches for Adobe Media encoder based formats (MPEG-2,WMF, etc.). AE should re-create it, if needed. Short of that, check the permissions on the folder as a starting point...

  • Error code 6 & media offline & after effect warning errors.

    Increasingly I am getting the attached error messages when I try to open files. (mostly .psd and .ind files)
    1.) It often says I don’t have permission to open the file, it is not the right type of file, or the file doesn’t exist... none of which are true.
    The files always work if I copy them locally and open them from my harddrive.
    2.) "media offline" error.
    3.) after effects warning error.
    Help needed. Thx.

    Hi Saif,
    You might get several issues, if you are directly opening files from the server or a network location, to your machine and editing them. You might also get issue while saving then to the server. I think your issue is one of them.
    This is because, several thing comes into picture while you are opening, editing, saving files over the network. You may face some network issues, firewall issues and mostly permissions issues.
    So, adobe always recommends to save the file locally on the machine first and then perform editting and saving operations. once you are done, you can copy it to the network.
    Check the below article just for reference.

  • Quicktime 7.6.4 crashes After Effects

    Quicktime 7.6.4 crashes After Effects i have to back date to quicktime 7.5.5 for it to work. this is not ideal as my itunes does not work now.
    so the question is this: is anyone else having this problem and did they resolve it?

    I have AE and I have no problems using Qt 7.6.4. Your the first I've seen in this forum to have problems with AE and Quicktime 7.6.4.

  • Numbers effect keeps crashing After Effects CC

    hey guys
    i can't seem to be able to apply the numbers effect without it crashing after effects, has anyone else has this problem?
    thanks
    julian

    We beleive that we've isolated the problem.
    I'll post more detailed workaround instructions if necessary, but for now, if you are totally blocked by this, try these steps:
    Open your Font Book Application
    Click on All Fonts
    Look in the Font column for any fonts that have accent characters in their name.
    Remove them.
    That should resolve the problem.
    The one we have identified so far is the font Arrière Garde, but there are certainly others.
    And note that it's how the font name appears in Font Book that matters, not the font filename itself.
    Let us know if this resolves the issue for you.

  • Create Shape Layer with Script in After Effects

    I wrote a simple script for After Effects and it works well but there is a weird problem.
    My script creates a shape layer which includes group, ellipse path, stroke and fill. Why does the "Group 1" have "Material Options: Group 1" property group? It's empty and it disappers when I click on its eyeball button. I don't want to display the property group. It seems like this problem doesn't happen on CS5.
    Are there any solutions to avoid this? Is this a AE CC bug?
    OS: Windows8.1
    After Effects: version 12.2.1.5
    Here's my script code.
    app.beginUndoGroup("Add new shape layer");
    var curComp = app.project.activeItem;
    if(curComp){ var shapeLayer = curComp.layers.addShape();
    var shapeGroup = shapeLayer.property("Contents").addProperty("ADBE Vector Group");
    shapeGroup.property("Contents").addProperty("ADBE Vector Shape - Ellipse");
    shapeGroup.property("Contents").addProperty("ADBE Vector Graphic - Stroke");
    shapeGroup.property("Contents").addProperty("ADBE Vector Graphic - Fill");
    app.endUndoGroup();

    Just ran a quick test on MAC:
    AE CS3, CS4, CS5 don't produce that Material Options
    AE CS6 & CC have Material Options, but they dissapear once toggle eye icon.

  • After Effects Installation error: Invalid Type Context

    I am currently working with Creative Cloud CS6 After Effects on a Windows 7 Toshiba Satellite, Core i3. I've been having trouble opening the program suddenly. I thought it might be due to a plug in which I had been trying to get working with both my After Effects and Premier (which works fine btw) to use to read a specific video coversion file (AVS). It didn't ever work so I unistalled all the plug ins I could find, uninstalled After Effects and reinstalled it. Then I started getting the error "Invalid type context" and AE would crash. I've uninstalled and re-installed twice and still cannot get AE past this error.
    Edit: Got a chance to write dow the info message after the error:
    "After Effects error: Crash in Progress. Last logged message was: <1588> <ae.blitpipe> <2> Making new context"
    I've looked for help in the FAQ and also done a couple searches in the forums, but found no topics about this type of error. Any thoughts?

    1. I've uninstalled all files pertaining to AVS conversion from my computer.
    2. I've given After effects full permissions through my windows firewall and McAffe too.
    3. I've reinstalled twice since my first post.
    4. I've stopped Adobe QT32 from running while AE loads.
    5. I've run the program as an administrator and tried running it configured for Vista OS.
    6. I've removed all preferences and cannot find any folder for AE preferences in my AppData folder.
    I'm still unable to keep the program from crashing as it initializes the user interface (farther along than before). I'm still getting the Invalid Type Context file. It brings up a save project option, which I haven't tried as I haven't gotten far enough along in AE to have any work to save.
    I did get this detail report in an attempt to diagnose the problem:
      C:\Users\Darci\AppData\Local\Temp\WER3C3.tmp.WERInternalMetadata.xml
      C:\Users\Darci\AppData\Local\Temp\WER2104.tmp.appcompat.txt
      C:\Users\Darci\AppData\Local\Temp\WER2EBB.tmp.mdmp
    I really need help as I'm at the end of all possible suggestions for this type of problem.

  • Adobe After Effects Startup Error!

    I just recently installed After Effects on my new PC and when I open the program it says: After Effects error: Crash in progress. Last logged message was: <1204> <GPUManager> <2> Sniffer Result Code: 1
    What is going on and how can I fix this?

    While we appreciate the full text of the error code, it would also help to have a bit more info such as what version of AE you're using (11.0.4? 12.2.0? 9.0.4?) as well as your computer's specs. GPU refers to your graphics card, but we don't know what card you have nor do we even know what operating system you have.
    Without any further info, my best suggestion would be to download the latest update to After Effects and download the latest driver for your graphics card.

  • After Effects CS3 - error: could not create 8935 x 9152 image buffer + slow

    Hello. I am receiving this error message every time i try render my 3min composition. it gets about 1/5 way through which takes about an hour. i have read the General Specialist troubleshooting guide and it has not helped yet.
    i am now rendering with Image Cache: Maximum RAM Cache Size at 10% and purging after every 20 frames (in secret prefs) - even if this works, the 3min render is estimated to finish in 9hrs. Does this sound normal, or acceptable? Is it possible i have a hardware deficiency? or something else lacking.
    My PC specs are: Intel Core 2 Quad 2.40GHz; 4GB RAM; Geforce 8800 GTS. Running XP 32bit SP3; After Effects CS3 (fully updated). I have updated my graphics card driver (180.48) and my mainboard chipset driver. My memory settings are as they appear in the http://generalspecialist.com/2006/11/avoiding-after-effects-error-could-not.asp guide, & I've dropped max RAM cache to 10%. My disk cache size is 10000MB and set to an empty 75GB 10000RPM Raptor HDD.
    The composition has 30 layers - mainly layers imported from PSDs and then animated with basic transform tools and some distortion effects (wave warp) to create 2D character animation. There are 6 pre-composed layers containing the same kind of PSD layers and animation. I try to render out to an uncompressed .avi in 720x576 with 15fps.
    Even before I noticed this rendering problem, After Effects runs painfully slowly. the composition monitor takes ages to refresh, even in the Quarter quality view mode i am forced to work in. and over the course of the day, on 3 occasions - the PC lagged after scrubbing through the timeline, froze, then Blue Screen of Death'ed before rebooting before i could even read the blue screen error.
    Please offer some assistance or ideas as to how i can move forward. I have tried to help myself with existing material online, but to no avail.
    Thanks,
    Nick.

    >Does this sound normal, or acceptable?
    It sounds normal within the realm of AE, but how acceptable it really is, is another matter entirely. ;-) As suggested, scaling the sources in PS would be one way, another one would be to chop up the large documents into manual tiles and parent them together. Based on how AE works, only tiles visible within the comp frame will be loaded, which should make the whole process more streamlined. That's assuming they are not 3D layers that need to be fully visible at any given point, of course. Even then, rendering to an image sequence is still advisable in case of crashes... Depending on what you actually do, you may also want to find a different way of dealing with your distortion effects. They considerably expand/ dilate image buffers for processing, complicating the matter further.

  • After Effects CS4 error during render

    The error appearing is as follows...
    After Effects: AEGP Plugin Media IO Plugin:
    Unknown Error!
    MediaIO2 error: 0x4
    Not enough memory to complete this encoding
    ( 5027 :: 12 )
    Now, my computer memory is very poor (1.98 GB RAM), however, I do not believe this is the issue as I have tried rendering the exact same file on my other computer with 8.00 GB RAM, but the same error occurs.
    I am completely baffled with why this error may be occuring, I have tried many ways to try and stop this. Such as...
    Changed the "RAM to leave for other Applications" to 0.25 GB
    Enabled Multiprocessing
    Enabled Disk Cashe and to a size of 10,000 GB
    Installed the latest update of After Effects CS4
    Tried changing After Effects CS4's priority and affinity using Task Manager
    Tried rendering with only After Effects opened with all other applications closed
    Rendering with different output modules rather ".wmv", such as ".avi" etc.
    Changed the video size from 856x480 to 428x240 etc.
    I have tried rendering different sections of the video to avoid the parts where it has previously failed to render, however, it is continuing to crash and fail regardless of the section
    The project I am rendering is rather large (4 Minute File), consisting of atleast 1 GB worth of imported video (.wmv) and images (.png) etc. However, before today, rendering was never problem and my renders would always run smoothly without crashing, so i'm completely unsure on what the possible change is and what could resolve the issue.
    Thank you, all help is appreciated!

    Any Windows Updates recently? Installed some CoDec pack or alternate media player software? If so, get rid of CoDec packs and reinstall Windows Media Player using the standalone package downloadable from Microsoft...

  • After Effects CS6 error: RAM Preview needs 2 or more frames to playback - any ideas please?

    Hi everyone,
    I'm running After Effects CS6 (11.0.4.2) on a MacBook Pro 2.8Ghz with 16GB RAM (Mac OS 10.9.4)
    As a test, I created a 3 and a half minute Sequence in Adobe Premiere CS6, and then imported this into After Effects CS6, and placed it on the AE timeline.
    This footage involves a couple of 1920x1080p footage movies, some psds and a large number of JPGs exported from two videos arranged as a sequence in two layers in Premiere, one on top of the other. So all in all for a Premiere / After Effects file I'd say it's reasonably heavy.
    I then did a RAM Preview with Multiprocessing switched off - the 3 and a half minute sequence loaded into RAM, taking about 1min 30seconds, and played back in realtime at 25fps. This worked fine with 3,4,5 and 6 GB RAM available to other applications in the Memory Preferences. All things considered I think this is quite good. I can make changes, reclick the RAM Preview icon and my changes load into RAM and it previews ok.
    My only 'complaint' is how long the RAM Preview takes to load up the whole thing.
    I've been reading up on Multiprocessing and decided to try this to see if I can speed up the time it takes my RAM Preview to load up.
    So I looked at some recommendations from Adobe and read information on various forums including this one.
    My settings in the Memory Preferences are currently
    • 6GB reserved for other applications
    • Reduce cache size when system is low on memory - unticked
    • After Effects Multiprocessing - ticked
    • Installed CPUs (processor cores) - 8
    • CPUs reserved for other applications - 6
    • RAM allocation per background CPU - 3GB
    • Actual CPUs that will be used - 2
    This combination takes about 25 seconds to load up my 3 and a half minute sequence which I thought was pretty amazing.
    I then pressed the stop button and then the play button - so now just playing the sequence briefly.
    And also added a new layer - into the timeline - just a simple shape.
    Then I tried a RAM Preview again.
    I found I could load up part of the sequence but not load the whole thing into RAM.
    I kept trying to get a RAM Preview and got this message
    "After Effects error: RAM Preview needs 2 or more frames to playback" which seems to prevent RAM Preview from working.
    Eventually I quit and restarted After Effects and the problem went away temporarily and then came back when I tried again.
    I tried various changes to the Memory Preferences - trying 3GB available for other applications. This gave 13GB of my 16GB RAM to After Effects.
    This made it take slightly longer for the After Effects error to appear but it still appeared.
    I tried ticking Reduce Cache size in the Memory Prefs  - the After Effects error still appeared, so having read this is supposed to make the issue better I now leave it untucked, but as far as I can see ticked or untucked, it makes no difference, the problem remains.
    I've since tried -
    Making 2,3,4,5 and 6 CPUs available for other applications.
    Changing the Background RAM allocation per background CPU to 0.75GB, 1GB, 1.5GB, 2GB and 3GB
    Lots of combinations.
    But in the end, I always get the "After Effects error: RAM Preview needs 2 or more frames to playback" error.
    It might take less or more time for the message to show up, depending on the combination of settings, but in the end I always got the same message appearing.
    And I notice that I can RAM Preview less and less of the timeline. i.e. it becomes more blue than it does green and will load in only a small section of the timeline as opposed to the whole thing.
    Reading further, I tried Edit > Purge > Image Cache and Edit > Purge > All Memory but still get the error message.
    I also tried ensuring there were no other applications running e.g. Safari or Chrome or Firefox. And certainly not Photoshop or Premiere etc.
    Reading even further, I tried two Memory management applications - 'Memory Clean' and 'Purge.'
    Neither has had any effect - the After Effects error still appears.
    Then I went back into the Memory and Multiprocessing Preferences.
    I unticked Render Multiple Frames Simultaneously. And now the RAM Preview loads the whole 3 and half minute sequence in entirety, taking about 1 and half minutes to do so. It's working as perfectly as if I'd just quit and re-opened the application.
    Then I went back into the Memory and Multiprocessing Preferences.
    I reticked Render Multiple Frames Simultaneously.
    The chose Edit > Purge > All
    And tried a RAM Preview again. It loaded up in 25 seconds, but then, as previously, the error message came.
    I tried Edit > Purge All - no effect.
    And I tried going into the Media and Disk Cache Preferences and clicked Empty Disk Cache - still the problem remains.
    I understand from my reading that After Effects CS6 11.0.2 was intended to fix this issue but I'm on 11.0.4 and as far as I can tell, I still have it - assuming it's the same thing.
    As far as I can see, not using Multiprocessing allows me to work without these errors but take a bit longer to load the RAM Preview.
    However I'd like to be able to use Multiprocessing as it seems it can potentially speeds things up quite a lot. I realise I could just not use it and AE would work, but I'd rather be able to make use of a feature of the software if possible, especially if it will speed things up and make optimum use of the my computer's hardware.
    I've downloaded a trial copy of After Effects CC 2014. I'm still testing it but as far as I can see the RAM Preview error appears in this version of AE as well, but can take bit longer to show up in my experience.
    Thanks everyone - if anyone has any thoughts or advice I'd appreciate hearing your opinions.
    Kind regards,
    John

    You need to have much more RAM reserved for other applications and more CPUs reserved for other applications. Your current settings are crippling your performance.
    Read these:

    After you have adjusted your settings according to the recommendations on those pages, restart your computer and try again.
