My Second Display connected on VGA is "blue-ish"

When I try to hook up a second VGA TFT-display using DVI-VGA adapter on the GT 120 the second screen has a blue-ish look. I can see the background picture, I can change the resolution settings but I can't get rid od the blueish tone.
On the mini-displayport I have the Apple Cinema 24"
Does anybodu know what can be the problem?

Depending on the degree of the bluish tint it could be a bad cable (strong tint) or it may mean the displays need to be calibrated (slight tint). If it is a slight tint try calibrating the displays, System Preferences -> Displays -> Color -> Calibrate...
Note: it's pretty much impossible to get two different display models to match. I've got two Apple displays and even with a Colorvision display calibrater one display is slightly warmer than the other.

    Hi Tony,
I don't how these instructions are the same, here is what the article says:
    _Resetting PRAM and NVRAM_
    • Shut down the computer.
    • Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    • Turn on the computer.
    • Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
    • Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    • Release the keys.
Your original post said *"Restart the mac and depress the alt, command, P and R keys simultaneously. You should hear the boot chime. Keep the keys depressed until you hear the boot chime a further three times. On the final boot chime release the keys and let the mac boot normally."* How I understand your post that totals 4 chimes vs. the 2 Apple specifies. Am I missing something?

  • Second Monitor seen as "VGA Display"

Has anyone seen this before? I have a Mac Pro 1,1 with 2 nvidia 7300 GTs, and three Acer x193w displays connected using VGA to DVI adapters. Only one of the monitors is recognized as a "x193w" with the second and third seen as "VGA Displays". The primary monitor has the appropriate resolution listed (1440x900) but the second and third do not. All resolutions listed for the second and third displays cause them to be askew (a round circle appears oblong). I have tried booting OS X 10.5 with the same results. This is a new machine to me as well as being new to MAC so please forgive me if this has been discussed on this forum somewhere as I could not find it.

Yes, adapters are the same, cables are the same, and monitors are the same. We have tried switching adapters and cables with no change. It appears that of the two video cards only one of the four heads sees the monitors for what they are. It does not matter which of the three monitors is connected to that port.

  • Main screen and dock move to second display

    Hi all,
although i found many replies regarding to how to get the dock to the desired screen i face the following problem.
I am a vj/dj using serato dj, mix emergency and madmapper. Whenever i connect a second display to my macbook (macbook pro early 2013 retina, now on OS 10.9) the main screen and dock is transferred to that second display (e.g. projector). These softwares need to run to the main screen only, and this should be my laptop's screen.
Even if i get the dock back to my macbook display, these softwares recognise as MAIN display the external one and not my macbook pro's display.
I am facing this problem since my OS upgrade to 10.9 from 10.8!
Can i do something to my macbook so as to always recognise its own display as the main display? Does this problem exist on Yosemite as well?
Can i downgrade to 10.8 if all the rest fail?
    Regards

    Hi konstadinos.k,
I understand you want your MacBook Pro to be the default display for your DJ software when you have a second display connected to it.  Take a look at the article below that explains all of the options for extending or mirroring your displays. I've highlighted some key information below that may be helpful in your situation.  Even though the article is for Mavericks, the info should still be applicable.
OS X: Using multiple displays in Mavericks - Apple Support
    http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202780
You can also assign an app to a specific display space from the app's menu in the Dock. Windows assigned to a space always open there when the display you specified is connected.
The blue boxes in Displays preferences represent each display that's connected. The size of each box is relative to the current resolution of each display. In this example, the smaller box on the left is the display of a 13" MacBook Pro while the larger box on the right represents the Apple 27" Thunderbolt Display.
Drag any of the blue boxes to change the location of a display in relation to your additional screens. You can use this feature to make sure your connected displays match their real world location when navigating windows. The white bar at the top of the blue box represents the menu bar. Drag the white bar onto the blue box representing the display you want as your primary display.
    Hope that helps ...

  • 24" imac with second display that flickers on and off randomly

Hi, I'm a n00b here, I've read a handful of threads before posting this a I cant seem to find a definitive answer.
I have a 24" 2.4Ghz aluminium iMac and I've recently purchased a HP zr24w 24" IPS panel as a second display, connected with an apple miniDVI - DVI connector.
The screen flickers off, to totaly black every time the mac seems to be having a hard time doing something, be it fast scrolling, flash video, but someimes randomly.
I have boot camp installed with winblows vista (for work) the screen does EXACTLY the same thing, all be it less frequently. This for me rules out the Mac OS, i think it must be something video card/driver related.
Was there ever a fix for this? most of the threads seem to just die with no official answer, it would appear that MBP users were ok until the last 10.6.3 update, when the problem seems to have returned, although i think thats a different issue with the same net effect.
I have spoken to apple care and the very helpful girl I spoke to send me some logging software which I've run and sent the logs back, that may help them out someway.
Any help would be GREAT !!
    many thanks
    Michael

well, some time has passed, here's where I'm at so far.
I tried a friend's samsung 24" screen and all was good with the world, no flickering on and off, no black outs nothing, for days it was all fine. I swapped the HP monitor back on and it went right back to its old ways. I called HP tech support, they decided that the monitor was faulty, i returned it to where I got it from and they have sent me a new one. Which was fine, for about 7 hours!!
So, to recap, the mini-DVI to DVI adapter is fine as it worked on the samsung screen, the HP screen is brand new and exhibiting the exact same issue as the first one (cant be 2 faulty ones surely) The samsung screen was fine.
This leads me to think that there is some compatibility issue between the 24" imac and this particular (hp zr24w) monitor.
I have followed apple support's requests for data logging but they cant find anything wrong there.
I'm out of ideas, any help would be GREATLY appreciated !!!
    thanks
    Michael

  • Second Display Use

Okay, I have a Mac Pro (two years old) with a 23" Apple Display. I have been thinking of connecting my old 17" Apple LCD Display in as a second monitor. I know I need to get a DVI to ADC adapter to work on the NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT I have.
So, my question is this (and I know its probably a dumb question): What can I do with a second display connected? I have read that with applications like Photoshop (I have Adobe CS4), you can move panels or palettes to the second display. But I was wondering if I can have my Apple Mail open on the 17" (since I usually have it open all the time) while I work in PS on the 23". Or can I have like streaming tv from Hulu playing or be playing a DVD on the 17" while I am working on the 23". I figure I might as well put that 17" display to use and I have seen photos on the web of people with more than one display connected, but I never thought what they could be using it for.
And one more question: Do I need any software or do anything special in settings on the Mac to make this work? I really appreciate any input.

Yes, I have done those things on the second monitor. What's on my second monitor right now: iTunes, iStat, SizzlingKeys, sometimes Disk Utility, iChat, SuperDuper, basically anything I don't want to obscure what's on the main monitor.
And one more question: Do I need any software or do anything special in settings on the Mac to make this work? I really appreciate any input.
It is all built in. When you plug your second monitor in, you will see two monitor icons in the Displays system preference, instead of the one you normally see. Arrange those icons the same way you laid out your actual monitors on your desk, and the system will know which edge is the common edge and the mouse can travel between the two monitors as if they were one. At that point it does not matter which windows you place in which monitor, you do what you want. You will be able to assign resolutions, color profiles, and options separately for each connected monitor.
The menu bar must remain on one monitor. It can be dragged to any monitor using the Displays preference. The monitor you put the menu bar on will be your startup/primary monitor.

  • Using only the second display...

Is it possible to only use a second display connected to the dvi, while disabling the main display on the laptop?

Not true brother. Simply open back up the screen once you have established the connection with your external monitor and its native resolutions, and BINGO you can us the keyboard to type and the laptop screen will not turn on. In fact you can use all of the functiions of the laptop without the laptop screen truning on. Try it.

  • Windows 10: Second display "turns off" in lock screen

Unfortunately some of these quirks are why people don't upgrade straight away, on the plus side by having over 14M people upgrade in less than 2 days MS now has a lot of faults found and fixes to work on - quickly. We hope.
That said I have a dual screen setup and my monitors retain the screen space settings.
The fact yours is a laptop maybe indicative of your issue - does your laptop have dual graphics,  e.g. one for high use games and one for low use 2D?
Does it turn off 3D settings - it may not be a Windows 10 thing but more of a setting that has defaulted.

I don't recall having this problem with Win 7 Pro, just upgraded to 10 pro a few days ago.I have an HP Probook 450 G2 (with up-to-date graphics driver) and a dual monitor setup. Main display is on HDMI and second display is on VGA. When I lock my laptop (Win+L), it seems to "turn off" the second display and shifts any applications I had in the second display to the main display. While a relatively small issue, it is rather annoying to have to drag applications back over to the second display when I resume working. It doesn't seem to happen right away though, nor does it seem to trigger when display is set to sleep at 20 minutes. I'm not sure how else to explain this. I've found posts of a similar nature on Spiceworks and other forums, but nothing seems to help.Thispostis from a while ago and is related to Win 7, but does seem to describe...

  • Using second display via eMac's mini-DVI to VGA adaptor

    Hi,
I've got a 19inch widescreen display from Acer, model no. AL1916W. I have apple's mini-DVI to VGA adaptor and have connected the second display to the point where it mirrors the screen on my eMac, however I don't want it to do this.
What I had intended is that the second display would act as an extension of my eMacs screen, so I can drag windows across for extra space. Is this possible with the eMac?
Put more specifically, I want to be able to put logic's main (arrange) window on the Acer widescreen, and then have whatever else on the eMacs screen? Is there a workaround to do this?
    help much appreciated,
    Toby

    Hi,
It's funny you should send me that link, I actually found that a couple of hours after posting this and tried it. It worked perfectly, I now have the widescreen running in it's native resolution and working as a separate screen which I can drag stuff in and out of. I came back on here to mark the question as 'answered' but I couldn't find how.
    thanks for your help,
    Toby

  • When I connect a second display both displays start to cycle on and off.

I am connecting a second display that works on both my macbook and macbook pro. When I connect it to my imac, both monitors start blinking on and off.
    Any ideas?

Long story short I solved the problem, and it was totally a model issue. It is the HP w2207, which apparently has a problem with iMac 24 inch, the nvidia graphics card, mini DVi to DVI and 10.4 in particular. You see these two devices, just don't get along very well. The imac tries to auto set the monitor at one resolutions and the monitor tries to auto set itself at another, and they will continue to do this indefinitely. However both when I switched to a VGA cable, which I believe prevents the monitor from auto setting itself, and when I upgraded to 10.5 solved the problem.
Personally I didn't mind the upgrade, as I was planning to do it anyway, and is definitely the better solution as there is noticeable difference in the color between the two cables.
Anyway thanks for the help everyone.

  • Connecting HDTV to Macbook Pro to use as second display

I connected an HDTV to my macbook pro using hdmi cable. Is there a way to turn off Mirroring, it doesn't seem to be giving me the option in the system preferences. Do I need to connect it with VGA cable instead to get the "Non" mirroring option. I want to use it as a second display, not a mirroring display.

Is there a way to connect the Apple TV as a second display without it automatically changing my Mac's audio output?
