My sent mail is showing a random contact as the "from" field

For some reason my latest e-mails I send are saying they are "from" a contact of mine, despite "me" sending them. I've yet to find out if the end recipient is seeing it this way (I'm hoping not) and more importantly I'm hoping this contact it is displaying is not actually getting copies of these e-mails. It is showing up this way on my laptop and on the iPhone and only from this one contact. I'm seemingly sending and receiving these e-mails despite it showing someone else's name instead of mine so it is probably just how it is being displayed (I hope). I am going to try and delete the contact and see what happens. Anyone else have a similar experience, solution?

If JV's suggestion does not help, rebuild the Envelope Index.
Quit mail.
Delete the file ~/library/mail/Envelope Index
Retart mail and it will reindex.

  • Is there any ways to make Mail app show prefix and suffix in the address field?

I apologize for any inconvenience that my poor English may cause.
I would like to ask if there is a way to make Maill app show prefix and suffix in the address field.
This is, in my culture, very important, especially for formal situations. When I call someone such as professors, bosses, I should put prefix after their names to show my respect. In Microsoft Outlook, there is a field called 'Display as'.
    http://www.slipstick.com/outlook/contacts/contact-address-book-options-settings/
Therefore, I can choose how the name will be shown in my messages. For example, Prof. Kim instead of Kim. However, as far as I know, there isn't such options in Mail app. Is there any way that I can modify the way of displaying names in the address field in Mail app?

As far as I can determine, that is only how you see the email address, not how it is sent.
You can set up Prefixes and Suffixes in Contacts using the Add Field submenu of the Card menu:
If you use the Edit Template... command, you can choose to always have the Prefix and Suffix show on new cards.
However, I don't think Mail uses anything but First, Last for addressing emails.
You can override the behavior by manually with:
Prefix First Last Suffix <[email protected]>

  • I sent photos out of my IPhoto library, but they do not appear in my "Sent" folder on my GMail although that mail account was in the "From" field?

I sent photos out of my IPhoto library, but they do not appear in my "Sent" folder on my GMail although that mail account was in the "From" field?

If you're using iPhoto as your email client a sent version is not created.  You need to BCC yourself in order to get a copy.
The better solution is to use Mail as your email client in conjunction with Gmail.  This will give you a sent copy, better access to your contacts and, if so desired, photo templates to use via Mail's stationary feature.

Why in my email ( the one on my ipod5 that I use with my apple ID) when I get emails about my use of my apple ID to use a service in the from field it has my fathers name and when I click on it it shows his contact info ???? I also set up my apple ID with a new email account and also I signed up for iCloud but used the same apple I'd email and password but it gave me a I cloud email! I did activate the favorites in my email . Noticed the from field has my fathers name and contact and it is a notification about me using my apple ID to sign in to FaceTime! Something is messed up, not sure how or why???

i didn't read a lot of your 2nd paragraph, but it seems like the password is the issue, right?
    do a true clean install
reboot your machine and hold down command+option+r, you should see a spinning globe - if you don't see the globe or anything that reads internet recovery, shut down and try again
at menu, chose disk utility and once there, find your HD on the left side, select the physical name and erase it as mac journaled
    exit disk utlity
    at menu, choose install OSX
this time, when it asks for a password just hit continue, it will let you complete without a password
you should be able to get into your laptop, now figure out what password you'll be able to use with your kb issue

  • ICloud has my name incorrect in the "From" field of the Mail Compose window. How can I fix this?

When I'm using the iCloud website, when I try to compose an email, iCloud has my name incorrect in the "From" pop-up menu. I changed my last name some time ago, after my divorce, from "Seymour-Amper" back to "Seymour". My Apple ID, my iCloud Settings, and my iCloud Contacts all show my name as "Gemma Seymour", except in the "From" field in Email. There doesn't seem to be any place to change this. I was going to call iCloud Support, but I don't have cell service at home, and can only access the Internet from the public library, where I cannot use my phone. Can anyone help?

In iCloud Mail, try clicking the actions symbol in the left bottom corner and select Preferences. Next click 'Accounts' and select 'iCloud' (if not already selected) on the left. On the right you should see 'Label: iCloud' and below that 'Full Name: ....'. Here you should be able to change your name and next click 'Done' on the right bottom corner.
    Hope this helpes...

  • Can I have Mail format the "From" field based on my Address book entries?

I have most of my contacts in my address book, but Mail still displays the "From" field in the message list pane with the normal email address header.
    Here's an example:
User A emails me a message from this address:
    "User A" <[email protected]>
In my Address Book, I have User A's info as this:
    First Name: Bob
    Last Name: Marley
    Email Address: [email protected]
In Mail, though, the "From" field in the message list view still says ...
    User A
... when I want it to say ...
    Bob Marley
Does that make sense? How can I do this?

All you need is a plug adaptor, if required. Apple sells an adapter kit:

  • How do you set the From field in Mail?

Is there any way to set the From field in messages. I have two email addresses:
an .edu address at an university
    a .net at my ISP
I’d like the From field to be my .edu addreess. Mail sent to my .edu address is forwarded to an address of my choosing, which happens to be my .net address. I would, however, like to keep my .net relatively hidden so I can change ISPs. We did that year switching from cable to DSL.
I tried changing Mail Preferences->Accunts->Email Address
to my .edu address. That, however, did not work. My DSL provider ignored the Email Address field and inserted my .net address in the from field. (I believe this method worked when I had a cable ISP.)

Since my last post, I found tried putting
Preferences->Accounts->Email address to be my edu address
would add my .edu address as one of my from choices
Next, I sent myself a mail message, with following result:
The .edu address is now rejected by the outgoing server with the message:
Cannot send message using the server
The sender address (my .edu address) was rejected by the server
I had this working at some time, but not now. Help, please.

  • How can I change the "From:" field in iOS Mail?

    This is a weird one.
I have a gmail work email account that has been set up for me. There's a primary email address assigned to it, and a secondary one (which is the one I want to use).
No problem at all sending from the secondary account on my MacBook Pro. I just hit the drop down menu by the "From:" field, and I can select it from there.
However, when I send from my iPhone, I'm only given the option of sending from my primary email address, not the secondary one. This is despite the fact that I've synced Mail accounts via iTunes.
Any idea how I might fix this so I can send from the secondary account on my iPhone?

First of all, please fill in the Computer Model and Operating System fields on your My Settings’s profile (and click Save). This is essential information that should always be provided when asking for help.
Now, what does “I can't change it” mean? What appears in the From header of the messages you send is determined by your Mail > Preferences > Accounts > Account Information settings...

  • How do you set the from field in mail to be one of two addresses?

  • How can I edit the 'from' field at e-mail receipts

I tried to add my own name in the 'from' field in the section 'e-mail receipts', but the system won't let me edit the field. It always sticks with the standard 'from' name Adobe Forms Central. I have a Plus Subscription package.
Please advise how to proceed. Thanks.

    Hi,
To customize the name in the "From" field used for email receipts, you must first select an address other than "[email protected]".

  • Mutt/Offlineimap Sent mail is showing up in Gmail Inbox

    Hi,
I am just starting my journey with mutt and quite like the interface thus far but I am having trouble with sent emails showing up in my Gmail inbox.  It is a little annoying to always have my sent emails appear as unread in my inbox.  In my search for a solution I have found that this behavior sometimes occurs if you have Gmail filters that are set to never send to spam, I checked and do not have any such filters.  This could also happen if I had $record set, but I have specifically unset record.  My muttrc and offlineimaprc are as follows (I used several tutorial sites to help create these) (I have hashed out some personal details):
    muttrc

I use msmtp to send the emails (and they do send) but as far as I know that program should have nothing to do with my folder labeling.
What happens exactly:  When in mutt, I press 'm' and compose an email and send with 'y'.  Oddly enough, the email appears in my gmail inbox (the webmail) even before I sync mutt with offlineimap (I don't automatically sync).  Once I sync, I see the email in both my sent mail and inbox.
    Any thoughts would be appreciated

You have unset the record variable.

  • BCC myself but sent mail not showing up in Mail

I have a BlackBerry. There is a setting where you can BCC an address for mail sent from the BlackBerry so you can have a copy of what you sent on your regular mail client. I've had this configured and it worked flawlessly with other POP3 mail clients I've used. Basically, the sent mail would be retrieved via POP3 as a regular message with the "from" and "to" fields intact. This is fine, and I don't care about being able to see "BCC" recipients. My problem is that Mail seems to be recognizing that the "from" address is the same as the "BCC" address and is getting rid of those messages for me, or ignoring them on the POP server. I thought of a few things, but none seem to be true -- My spam filter (SpamSieve) is not detecting the messages as spam. I also thought that perhaps Mail is doing something nifty like automatically moving the mail into sent folders. However, that's not true either. I also did a few different searches to see if my sent messages had come down somewhere and I was just missing them.
So now I'm stumped. Is Mail making decisions for me behind the scenes? Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi Bmoua,
What client did she use on the temporary computer? Outlook or outlook app or OWA?
If she used outlook, it may download the sent messages to the local pst.
In addition, I also recommend you use message tracking log to check if there are any messages had been sent out when she used temporary computer.

  • SMTP sent mail not showing up in sent mail folder

    Hello,
    Setup:
    Exchange 2010 SP1
    Outlook 2010
C# for sending mail, or Pentaho Kettle
Not really sure how to explain, but I have the following scenario:
Automatic programs send email using credentials (an active username / password on the domain. account linked to a mail box).
    Mail gets sent.
Mail does not show up in the sent mail folder of the account
I was wondering if there was a parameter on the Exchange server to configure so that the email sent via SMTP would show up in the sent mail box of the account.
