My settings and music are all gone

a few days ago i decided to go to sleep with some music playing from an itunes radio station and when i woke up all my settings like the dashboard my favorites and screen saver were gone and itunes didnt recognese any of my music. the music was still there in my hard drive but now its gone. what happend nothing else changed i still have all my papers and photos. what happend?

Did you possibly rename your Home folder, the one that has the house icon?

Log into icloud.com and then click on the Contacts icon. If the list is empty, then it's gone.

When I reopened my laptop, it said that some files have been deleted or hidden (I don't know if it said hidden, I don't remember). my dock and wallpaper were set back to default.
This isn't my first time force shutting my MacbookPro.

i heard time machine restores your stuff back.
And please don't tell me to go to apple because I have made an appointment with them but I'm still worried.

Given that you sound a nervous wreck and a neophyte in matters Mac, it would be safest that you put the Mac away, go take a chill pill, grab a bite, get some rest. Then take the Mac to its scheduled appointment with Destiny, er, the Apple Genius.
There's a good possibility of data loss and munging around unknowing, following instructions that will probably be hard to grasp will only increase the amount of damage.

Congrats on the first iPhone. This is not normal. First check if moving the volume up or down either way has any impact on the sound. Then see what happens while on speakerphone. If you can hear ok on speakerphone, and there's no change from the regular earpiece with the volume changing, check with the carrier you received it from or the Apple store you purchased from. They will have other things to look at for you.

Photo Stream is not syncing all of my photos on my Iphone 4. I've checked all of my settings and they are all turned on, ready to go. Can anyone tell me why it would randomly miss a few photos please?

I have been to several tech support sites and have checked all of the settings for my Iphone 4, which appear to be on the correct "on" position HOWEVER when syncing with Icloud/Itunes via my Windows PC (windows 7) the Photo Stream comes up short 4 or 5 photos. How do I return my iPhone 4 back to the way it was after I accidentally backed it up with my old iPod's information, and now all my contacts, messages, and photos are all gone?

So I went to plug my iPhone into my computer, automatically pulling up iTunes/iTunes Store. I notice that the computer isn't recognizing my iPhone, so I look at my phone and see that it is asking me if I want to trust this computer so I click yes. Then on the computer on iTunes it asks me if I want to save it as a new device (which I should've done) or save it as a previous device (and showed the names of other devices) and I picked the save as previous device under my old iPod, thinking that it would just save it and not mess with anything (mind you, I have never backed this iPhone up before)... So I wait for it to finish saving, and when it is I realize my phone looks nothing the same as it was when it was my iPhone a few minutes ago (except all the apps I hade downloaded unto the actual iPhone) and now looked like my old iPod. It deleted all of my contacts (except ones synced from Facebook), photos (but had all the photos from my old iPod), and deleted every message I had had with someone. I know I made a mistake, and I honestly don't know if this is something that can even be fixed... But I need to at least try.! So if someone could help, I would appreciate you a lot!

The first time an iPhone is connected to iTunes that is used to sync with another iPhone or iOS device, you are prompted to transfer the backup for the other iPhone or iOS device or to set up the iPhone as a new iPhone.
The former does as provided - it transfers the backup for the other iPhone or iOS device to the iPhone replacing all data on the iPhone that is included with the backup being transferred. The latter does nothing allowing you to make your various selections for the iPhone sync preferences with iTunes.
This is designed to be done right away with a new iPhone.
If you don't have a backup for the iPhone with iTunes on your computer and don't have an iCloud backup that hasn't been updated since choosing to transfer the backup for your iPod Touch to the iPhone, the data that was on the iPhone is gone.

I was trying to set up my aunt's iphone 3gs with itunes but accidently backed up her phone with my phone information so now all her contacts, photos, and notes are all gone and replaced with my phone information. Is there anyway I can restore it back?

I was trying to help my aunt set up her phone to itunes on my computer but when it asked me whether I wanted to set it as new device or use the backup from previous iphone data, I clicked restore from backup. I didn't realize that clicking that option would delete all of her information on the phone and relace it with mine. Her contacts, phones, notes, and all of her information are gone and replaced with mine just like my phone. Is there any way I can restore her phone because she really needs all those information orignally stored on her phone? She just got her phone not long ago and didn't backed up any of her information on her phone.

If her data was not backed up or synced to something, it's gone. Sorry.

HELP! i just opened stickies and they are ALL GONE!

I do not know what happened, but i turned on my computer this morning and opened stickies and its like the program reset itself all my stickies and the info on them were gone and the original starter stickies ( the ones that tell you how to use them) were there instead! Where did they go- some of that info is irreplaceable. Please help!

Sorry that your welcome to Discussions is marred by loss of your Stickies.
The data you lost was stored in a file called "Stickies Database." It is stored in the Library folder in your home directory--it should be there among a bunch of folders.
One of two things probably happened: either you moved the original file out of that folder (and Stickies promptly rebuilt itself the new, default database with the introductory stickies), or your original data file became corrupt and the application created a new database--one that didn't have your data in it.
If you have a backup of your home directory, you could get the database file and put a copy of it in your Library folder, removing the useless (starter) one. Then open Stickies and it should use the replacement database.
As you are probably finding out right now, it's important to backup critical data, and furthermore, Stickies probably aren't the best place to store critical data. I think the Library is a bad place for Stickies to keep its database because most things in there don't need to be backed up. It should instead be in the Documents folder.
I'm sorry that this probably won't be of any help to you. There are much better replacements for the Stickies application and if you like I can give you some suggestions--they're not free, though.

I took photos and they saved in my camera roll. they were there the next morning. I took more pictures and they are all gone. why did they not save and can i get them back ?

I took photos on my iPhone on yesterday and they all saved. I looked at my photos the next day and they were still there. I took more photos and now none of the last photos that I took in the last two days are there. Why did they not save? Can I get them back? My storage was not full. I just updated my iPhone to ios 7.1 a few days before.

Close all open apps by double-tapping the home button, then swiping up and off the screen with the app window (not the smaller icon).
Reset your device: hold down the home button along with the sleep/wake button until the screen goes black and you see the Apple, then let go. (No data loss)

Opened my mac air and pages, keynote and numbers are all gone

Yup all my apps and music are gone now

Well just like everyone else ios 5 jacked up my phone. I was going to look and check other peoples post so I didnt post the same issue someone else had but this site is running so slow! no doubt because so many people are having issues. I updated itunes first then i updated. However it couldnt back up my phone. But it said I could continue to update so I did. It updated me to 5 but it also returned my iphone 4 to factory settings Luckily I had backed up the night before so I tried to restore from back up. It took soooo long! and when my phone restarted and had me configure icloud settings. But when I looked through my stuff I had my contacts, e mail, pictures, and texts. But all my apps and music are missing! So I tried to restore again thinking ok I set up my icloud stuff so maybe now all my stuff will be back. And nope 30-40 mins later still the same!!!! *** I guess I can consider myself lucky since others dont even have their contacts. But man im ****** I had stuff to do today and instead I wasted my time with this update! And I still dont have my apps and music. How could apple have failed so bad?

Yep, same here. Literally, this happens EVERYTIME I update my iphone. Thousands of songs and tons of apps - all gone. I believe I've tried everything to get it all back, but no success.
Think it's time I chuck my iPhone out the window and boycott Apple.

I understand you are having issues with sound output on your iPhone 4S. For troubleshooting steps, the following article provides the best information:

1. Verify that there is nothing plugged in to the headset jack, including headsets, headphones, or adapters.
2. Make sure the Ring/Silent switch is not switched to silent.
3. While on the Home screen, adjust the volume buttons. If you see the icon below, indicating that headphones are attached, there may be debris or an object lodged in the headset jack:
4. Check the headset jack. If there is an object lodged in the headset jack that is not easily removed, have the iPhone serviced to remove object.
5. For Original iPhone: If there is light debris, such as lint, in the headset jack, try connecting a pair of headphones to the headset jack and then remove the headphones. Repeat this several times to remove the debris.
6. If you have installed a protective film on the display, either ensure that the receiver is not covered or remove the film completely.
7. Check the receiver mesh (which is on the top front of the device, above the display). If it appears blocked, use a clean, small, dry, soft-bristled brush to carefully and gently brush away any debris.
8. If you have paired with a Bluetooth headset that is nearby, either use the headset or turn Bluetooth off (choose Settings > General > Bluetooth).
9. Restart the iPhone.
10. If restarting the iPhone doesn't resolve the issue, try restoring the device.
11. If the issue persists, go to the Service Answer Center - iPhone for information on service.

When looking at the empty screen with the name of my former playlist on top, if I tap the edit button on the phone, tap the + button to add a 'song' to the playlist, and then tap 'Done' without adding anything, I can see all my videos in the playlist with the red minus symbol next to each of them. But as soon as I tap 'Done' again they all disappear!
I saw on another forum that someone has had the same problem but fixed it by, and I quote
"If you go to Get Info and change the Media Kind from Movie to Music Video under the Options tab, they all now appear in the playlists!"
I'm happy this worked for him, but when I tap "File" in itunes, the "Get info" field is greyed out, so I can't test the solution proposed.

Why when i use a new apple Id and new id for icloud all my information is gone? For example all my contracts are all gone.

I don't know why when i used a new apple ID and new icloud ID all my information is done. My contracts are all gone. This only happen on on phone. When i was changing the other phones it works fine. Nothing is lost. So i dont understand when i was changing the apple ID and icloud Id the information is lost. You know when you go to setting and you click iCloud and i saw that the contracts book was light on. Does that matter? Does that cause i lost my contracts?

I don't think the iPhone is really designed for people to be switching from one Apple ID to another so when you do so you may experience problems. You have two options on the iPhone for where you can be accessing contacts, from iCloud and the iPhone itself. You can also pull contacts off of a SIM card but they are then stored on the iPhone and not accessed from the SIM card.
You could try this;
1. Go to Settings > iCloud
2. Sign in to the Apple ID that you want the Contacts from,
3. Turn "On" the Contacts slider and let it download all of your contacts
4. When it's done downloading, turn the slider back to "Off" and you should get a message like this..."What would you like to do with the previously synced iCloud contacts on your iPhone?"
5. Then select "Keep on My iPhone"
Then after that you can then sign out of that Apple ID and into your other Apple ID and the contacts shouls still be there.
