My setup makes co-ordinating mail a problem. Help?

I have two gmail accounts, a yahoo account, and a personal account as well as an icloud account. I use Apple mail on my iphone, ipad, macbook air, and imac.
I find that both yahoo and google mail repeatedly load mail I've already downloaded before (sometimes months before) into my inbox.
If I go to the servers and manually remove the mail I don't want it takes forever.
But if I tell my Mail program to delete mail from the server once it is downloaded then it isn't saved. And when I want review mail I've downloaded into my ipad later on, on my imac, it never arrives in the inbox on my imac.
Is there any way to see all incoming mail in all inboxes on all devices and then deleting that mail just once? Without having to go into all the webmail accounts?
I'm afraid the answer is no.
So next question; any suggestions about a method or software that WOULD do that? I need help. Thanks.

Although I don't use Apple Mail, don't like it, there has to be a setting to leave mail on the server for X number of days and then delete it after that number. Along with deleting mail as soon as you empty the trash folder in the mail program. The thing is you can't delete any mail, and empty the trash, that you want on all your devices until you download it to all of them.
You might want to try Thunderbird on the Mac's. Also start using the IMAP feature for your Gmail accounts on all devices. Yahoo doesn't do IMAP unless you have a Paid account.
I do know that Thunderbird has that setting to leave the mail on the server for X number of days. I use it all the time as I have 6 different email accounts and only one of them uses IMAP, Gmail, and I get all my mail on many different computers, PC and Mac, and my phone, Android. Whether or not I use any of those devices for days.
I have it set for all accounts to 7 days.
Look in Preferences, Accounts, Advanced tab, Remove copy from server after retrieving a message: Set it to After one week.

Exchange 2013 - Mail receive problem -Help!

Exchange 2013 SP1 -fresh install -test environment with one test mailbox setup in addition to the Administrator account. Using default Receive Connectors and it is set for Anonymous. Using OWA and Outlook 2010 for testing.
We can send/receive mail INTERNALLY in both Outlook & OWA between our test user and the Administrator user.
We can send mail externally from both accounts.
We are not receiving mail into the Inbox of either OWA or Outlook.
We are not seeing any authentication issues with Outlook -always shows connected to Exchange. But if we have same problem in OWA then we are just testing with it for now.
We ran the Microsoft Connectivity Analyzer for both Inbound and Outbound SMTP and it passed with no errors/warnings L

When I do NSLOOKUP of our domain I get just the two MX records at Time Warner. Not anything with our actual domain name for email in it. I just added the A records for mail.companyname.com and autodiscover at Network Solutions yesterday...but though those
were only for use externally for OWA, ActiveSync, etc
Note we do not use Split-DNS on our internal domain either. Our AD name is different than our public domain name - The AD is named with a subdomain: qs.companyname.com
Lastly, I did not create an MX record at network solutions for mail.domainname.com. Should I do that and set it to a higher priority?

STRANGE mail.app problems - Help!

A client's mail is severely screwed. here's a (brief) summary:
OS 10.3.9
Client had mail hang & spin while having 3 replies open. Stuck in a loop, tried numerous Disk Warrior, repairs, permissions, etc etc etc... Client's Mail folder in ~/Library/Mail is huge, over 9GB (many mailboxes).
*Oddest thing: THAT mail folder cannot be copied over to external FW Hard drives (tried 2) hangs after 806mb. Got a strange error about "Incoming mail cannot be read or written" - words to that effect. I've never seen such a thing. I can't even backup that mail folder to simply wipe the drive to update to Tiger.
ANY help appreciated!!

Finally I've figured out what happened for not syncing anymore what I did on the Mail.app mailbox of my Professional Exchange account.
So, the problem was the MailTags plugin: http://www.indev.ca/MailTags.html
I don't know if it was after the Trial Period that went rogue, or this has happen since the install, but when I've uninstalled it, it worked just fine.
Hope this help someone with the same problem.

Google calendar e-mails synchronization problem

Hi,
I've recently found a problem with my blackberry that I can't solve myself. In Google calendar I had to add external calendar to synchronize with my account (it works well on desktop website) and add e-mail notifications about new event.
And here is the problem. In ma gmail account I have emails about both added and removed events in this calendar, but in my BB inbox I only see e-mails about removed events. Messages about new events don't synchronize.

I really need these notifications to work. Anyone know how to make these e-mails synchronize?
Actually, since I've added this calendar to my google account I got event notification once (on BB it was marked with two people icon), but I'd rather receive them more often

OK, I've figured it out a bit. If I disable calendar synchronization in BB settings, then I'm able to receive these notifications and they appear in calendar as normaln events (that's good). On the other hand I can't use my main calendar that way.
What if I want to use both of them at the same time?

Can I make Folders in Mail?

Can I make Folders in Mail so I can store some? Right now they all scroll off site in no time and I can't read them again. Help!

Thanks for that Matt. I'm looking it over now. I thought a workaround would be to just go to my Comcast email acct online and make an Icon out of that. But the problem there is that Comcast is NOT a good online email program. It's very ugly and hard to see and navigating it is next to impossible. For example, I clicked on the "Make New Folder" button and it just kept asking if I wanted to make a new folder....that's as far as I got. Oh yes, I'll just have to call Comcast...again...to let them figure this out. I doubt there's a fix as Comcast's email program is awful. I think if I used IMAP that Comcast would get even worse. But I'll think on that.

Cannot setup exchange with apple mail

Here is the situation. I am trying to setup apple mail to the exchange system at work. When I enter the password (which I know is correct), I get the following error message:
Logging in to the Exchange server “mail.bus.msu.edu” failed. Make sure the user name and password you entered are correct, then click Continue. If the information isn’t correct, you cannot receive messages.
Consequently, I cannot access the mail system.
I have been able to setup my other various mail accounts but this one persists in not working? Any suggestions.

Is the autodiscover information properly set up? Generally this should "just work" automatically if stuff is set up properly on the Exchange side. You may need to check the setup instructions for your educational institution and contact them if the autodiscover records are incorrectly set up.

New mail doesn't make the "new mail sound" when received

Hi! I have a .mac email account, and I use two different aliases for the account. I want all the mail sent to one of the aliases to go into a designated mailbox. I've tried doing this with both a smart mailbox and using a rule to move the messages to a mailbox on my .mac account (not both at the same time, I've tried it separately both ways).
Both of these options work, except that mail will not make the "new mail" sound when I get a new email for that mailbox. Even when I add to the rule that it should make a sound, it doesn't. Other mail (i.e., all of my other mail that is delivered normally to my inbox) is not affected--I still get the normal sound. Any ideas? Thanks! (And BTW, I always give points for helpful answers!)

Not if the OP somehow lets me know whether the proposed solution worked or not. Sometimes I know for sure what the problem is and how to solve it, but others I don’t, and the user’s feedback is way more valuable to me than any points I could get.
So yes, merely setting up a smart mailbox is enough to make Mail
to quit making the sound.
I’ve been unable to reproduce what you describe, but I’ve found something that could be related. Selecting an IMAP (or .Mac) mailbox causes Mail to check for changes made to that mailbox, including checking for new mail and applying rules as appropriate, just like it would do when automatically checking for mail according to your settings, except no sound is played if new mail arrived...
Could that be what you’re observing, i.e. could it be that Mail is actually behaving as expected but it seems that it isn’t because you’re checking for new mail as a result of manually selecting the account’s Inbox or something like that?

Mail app problem

My wife and I have seperate user accounts on the macbook. When I ran the mail app in her account it asked for some set up info, which we entered based on what was being used in her imac. Didn't do much with it for a day or two and then when I came back to it I was unable to connect to the defined POP server (Connection Doctor window showed POP login failing). After fiddling around a bit with no success I decided to delete the mail account info (via the - button from mail->preferences->acounts) and create a new one. The account info appeared to be deleted then but we got a multicolored spinning wheel that woudl not go away and ultimately had to force quit the mail app. Now when the mail app is launched all we get is the spinning wheel and all we can do is force quit the mail app. I tried to find out how to run the mail setup assistant again but could not find any info on how to run it or where to find it. All I found was info that said it would run the first time mail app was run.
Dose anyone have any pointers or know what I should do to resolve this mail app problem?

There are several threads on this in the forums. Search for "Mail spinning beach ball."
Essentially, there is something wrong with the Mail folder in ~/Library/Mail/. Move the Mail folder to the desktop and restart Mail. It will create a new Mail folder. You can then import anything that was in the old mailboxes.

How I solved my Spotlight+ Mail indexing problem

OK, so I thought I would post my solution to a stubborn indexing problem, for people who may have the same issue (and it does seem many people do).
Problem: Spotlight index was unreliable. In particular, Spotlight was terrible at indexing mail. It could not find the messages by content that it would find by searching the "from" field, nor could it find those reliably. Unusable.
What DID NOT work:
-- adding and removing any folder whatsoever in the Privacy preferences of Spotlight. The index would rebuild, but with the same problems.
-- doing this via terminal (e.g, using sudo mdutil -E /Volumes/MyHardDisk)
-- using Onyx
-- using Spotless
-- simply reinstalling the system
-- manually modifying the plist files inside the .spotlight folder to add and remove the folders that would not get indexed.
What DID work:
-- first, I reinstalled the system. That's not such a big deal. Upgrade up to 10.4.6
-- then, I authorized the root user (that's probably not necessary) (this, you do by using Netinfo manager)
-- Then, I deactivated the index (via terminal:
sudo mdutil -i off /Volumes/MyHardDisk
-- now the tricky part. This concerns Mail, in particular.
I have a very complex mail folder (tens of thousands of messages). I noticed that inside each mail folder, I had two things that were not supposed to be there
1. a copy of each folder.mbox which was empty, but with the same name without the extension .mbox. This is probably something that was created while importing mail from Panther to Tiger, for what I can tell.
2. Most importantly, a file named ".index.ready". This also, apparently, was an old legacy coming from Panther. I suspect this was the main problem for the lack of indexing in Mail.
Ok, so... I deleted these folders and files. If you have a complex structure of subfolders, you can delete the files with an Unix command by first cd to your mail folder, and then use
find . -name \.index.r* -ok rm {} \;
which will ask you confirmation before deleting each file.
It was faster to remove the empty subfolders by hand, as they all had different names.
-- Ok, at this point, I erased entirely the .Spotlight-V100 directory which stays at the root of your computer. You can do it with a rmdir command from the terminal or, as I did, you can login as root (remember, we activated root), use a utility that allows you to see hidden files (e.g., Tinkertool), and move it manually to the trash folder.
Then I emptied the trash. For superstition, I restarted, and let the index be built again (that took about 5 hours in my computer, for an HD with about 60 gb occupied on it).
Now everything seems to work perfectly fine. I don't know whether this procedure can be shortened, but I do know that nothing else worked for me. I thought I would post it here as I spent sooo much time to solve this problem, and furthermore, I found that none of the suggested solutions would work.

Thank you, thank you, thank you, Lucabo! Using ideas from your post, I also (at least for now) solved my Mail indexing problem. One day (not even after an upgrade) Mail just quit finding messages by content, even when I had open a message with that content!
What I did:
-- In System Preferences, told Spotlight to index only Mail (I just use grep from a Terminal window for everything else!)
-- Ensured Mail app wasn't running
-- Backed up my Library/Mail folder to an external disk
-- Turned off indexing via Terminal (after sudo sh), with
mdutil -i off /Volumes/MyHardDisk
-- Deleted old files in my mailboxes (inside the whatever.mbox folders):
.index.ready
mbox
tableofcontents
content_index
It was clear that mbox, tableofcontents, and content_index were left over from a previous version of mail - they hadn't been accessed since I upgraded.
Note that I didn't delete the whatever.mbox folders (just the plain mbox file inside)!
-- Deleted (in Terminal) the .Spotlight-V100 in the root directory
-- Restarted my Mac. The indexing started itself. Since I had it set up to index only Mail, it took about 3-ish hours to finish (I have 100s of 1000s of emails in thousands of folders).
After the indexing finished, all the test searches that I tried worked. From now on I will always be suspicious if search doesn't find anything!
Also, I just checked - using the Spotlight field on the menu bar now works better too. When the Mail search problem showed up, I tried using the Spotlight field and the Spotlight window, but they would just flash up a few items, remove the list, over and over, sometimes with the beachball, then finally settle to an empty list. Now the Spotlight field seems to work.
I infer that the Spotlight index gets corrupted, and that the Spotlight code doesn't notice that it's reading junk from the index...
BTW, about the same time that search quit working, some emails in my Inboxes got highlighted with a dark brown background color. Have no idea why. They aren't marked as Junk (the junk messages have the text in the usual lighter brown). But, when I select a message with the dark brown highlight, mark it as junk, then mark it as not junk, the dark brown highlight goes away. On some occasions, just quitting Mail and restarting makes the dark brown highlights go away - but not always. Sigh... at least it's not a show stopper, even if it is ugly!

To make it the default account- iPad settings, mail,(under signature) default account. Select it and change it. The address book, under that account make sure you have addresses ON.

To clarify for anyone who is still having any problems doing this.
1. Unlock your phone with the carrier ( I know the process will work if it is jail broken but I am assuming you dont want to void the warranty on your phone) NOTE: even if you purchased the phone outright at Wal-Mart it is still locked to ATT so you will have to unlock the phone. If it's already unlocked skip to step 2. This works and will work even if you update the phone.

Two Cards/3 Monitor Setup w/ Vista + Bootcamp, 7300 GT problems

Hello all, I have a Mac Pro 32-bit OS running with Intel Xeon 5150 2.6 x2, 5 GB RAM, and originally, it came with the XT1900 video card. NVidia 7300 GT won't install in Vista! I wanted to run 3 displays, so I read around that people were adding an extra 7300 GT to accomplish this. I've ordered and installed one, but when using Vista via Bootcamp, the card simply will not install. I've checked device manager, there is an error code (43) saying it failed to start. I tried uninstalling drivers, reinstalling, patching, getting everything updated latest from nVidia for Vista, but to no avail, I've hit a dead end here. Also, I tried unplugging the XT1900 and running with just 7300, still didn't work. The card is installed in slot #4, and the original XT1900 is still in the #1 slot.
Anyone know how to get the card installed under Vista (I have SP1 too)? Everything runs fine in OS X Leopard, but mainly, I use windows so I was more concerned about that. I've never had this many problems getting a piece of hardware to install, EVER.
Also, I ordered the MAC version upgrade card whenever I purchased the 7300 GT. All the software updates and flashes, I was downloading for "Vista" Was that a problem or the right choice? If all else fails I may just ditch the 7300 and get another Xt1900 to roll with two. Hopefully that setup won't bunk out. Any help appreciated!

Problem is Windows not liking to mix two brands, ATI and Nvidia.
Check out the ATI Radeon 3870 instead of another X1900.
http://www.barefeats.com has graphics benchmarks in OS X and Vista.
I used 7300GT and 8600GS together in Vista. The 8600 is only seen and useable in Vista but does not interfere in OS X (just black). eVGA seems to be most compatible PC card on Mac Pro.
You could run 7300GT and order the 8800GT from Apple, the one for just the pre-2008 Mac Pro, which would get along and work also and nice card in Windows but iffy in OS X and weak drivers.

The 3870 you have to install the drivers, reboot once, let the drivers load into cache, and then switch over - for card to work properly in OS X.

Mail Adapter Problem

Hi All
I have setup a sender/receiver mail adapter. If I send mail to, or receive mail from an email address which does not exits on our mail server, I get no error, but neither XI nor the other recipient receive the mail.
Any ideas here, or am I just doing something wrong?

Yes, I have tried this and it is not sending to addresses outside of my company addresses. Is there anything I can check why not sending to any other addresses. I am using the same mail server address in the receiver adapter as that I am using in my Outlook, and I am able to send from Outlook to other email addresses outside of our company.

from this it is only sending to shobna@companyB and simply without any errors not sending to john@companyB....
and the same with my sender mail adapter. It does not accept any mails from companyB, but when any account from companyA sends to XI, it takes it into XI and delivers to the receiver.

Mail Server Problem

The mail server problem has been resolved, mail is working as designed....yeah!!

silly discusting board, I've got 3 replies in my email but it's not showing here ...
anyway, this time I found after some chasing my tail .... that the mail preferences had wiped my password and I needed to reinstall it, then instruct it to go online and some other click stuff ....
and it seems to be ok now ....
but each round in past 2 weeks has been different "fix" .... or wait ....
sorry for anyone without master email for 5 days, that's just not right ....
I'm afraid that as apple starts "giving away" email accounts to build the cloud into something much bigger than the mobile me was .... that their folo up will fail and we will find ourselves not with the same apple durability / consistency but with the "hey it's free" attitude ....
