My shuffle crashed my USB Ports

Help! I placed my shuffle in its docking station yesterday and my computer crashed. Then, when I restarted it, all 4 of my USB ports are not working. They don't read anything, mouse, flashcards, printer, etc. Diagnostics say they are working. I've restarted, unplugged, ran diagnostics, removed everything from the computer, worked with dell tech support and the only other option they are recommending is to reboot my operating system, which would make me lose a ton of data!! Apple of course, doesn't seem to acknowledge this as a problem with the shuffle (they've never read the message boards). Anyone have any ideas of how I can restore this so I can use my USB ports again, before I try the reboot or have to consider buying a new laptop?

I'm having the same problem, i got my shuffle a few weeks ago and it worked fine at first, then i went to charge it the other day and my computer won't reconize it, it treid all the suggestions on the forums pages but nothing worked. i just got to the apple store and the guy plugged my shuffle into 4 different apple computers and they would'nt reconize my shuffle at all, i have an appointment in 30 minutes with a "tech" i'll let you guys now about a solution if one exists, i'm hoping it's just the docking station.

    Hi deaconspeaking,
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
Try looking for the iPod below the Search field in iTunes. If it doesn't show up below search, the second article provides troubleshooting tips that should help you out.

  • Connecting 4th gen Shuffle to stereo USB port

I bought a little home-brand stereo (with iPod dock) to go with my iPod Shuffle on the promise from the salesman that the shuffle was compatible. I now see that the dock on the stereo is for bigger devices, but the USB port recognises only one song from 100 I've loaded onto the shuffle (it's an MP3 file, compared to Mpeg-4 for all the others). Is there a converter or some other connector cable that I need for the shuffle to work via USB? Or do I need to somehow convert the song files to MP3? Please help..!!!

Does the Bose system have a standard 1/8" stereo jack input labeled "AUX"? Or perhaps a couple of standard RCA input jacks for left and right inputs (typically one RED and one WHITE)?

  • IPod and iPod shuffle not connecting to PC b/c of USB ports

My dilemma is that my PC doesn't like to recognize my 2nd gen. iPod or my 512MB iPod Shuffle in the USB ports. Whenever i connect them it says "Hi-speed USB device attached to non-Hi-speed USB Hub." Obviously the problem lies in the PC, but it always used to recognize the iPod and now it won't. I am curious if anyone knows what the problem may be (with the exception of getting hi-speed USB ports) if they could help me out please!

I've been an Apple supporter long enough to be labeled a fanboy by some, but I've seen their software quality control fall off a cliff over the last year, culminating with anything and everything related to iOS 8 and Yosemite. This release has been an utter failure. And I'm not referring to short term lapses like the calamitous iOS 8.0.1 upgrade that virtually bricked people's iPhones, since at least that was corrected in a relatively short amount of time. I'm referring to virtually every tent pole feature that hasn't even remotely worked as promised: iCloud Drive, iCloud Photo Library, Handoff, phone calls on Mac, AirDrop, etc. And now,. something as simple as recognizing a current generation iPod in iTunes. And that's not to mention the aforementioned software's impact to boot times on the Mac and battery life on the iPhone. It's sad and pathetic.
I may not have much of a choice when it comes to computers and smartphones, since everything else on the market is far worse, but I will not be spending another dime on this company's products or services until and unless they clean up their act.

  • My Ipod Shuffle has fried two USB ports in my computer

    Hi!
I have been reading through all the forums, but I have not seen anything written about Shuffles burning the USB ports.
My Ipod shuffle was connected and suddenly, I heard an explosion and my computer when black. I went and changed the ipod at the store, got another one, and the same thing happened with another USB port.
Now, I change the USB dock, but still the light in the Ipod won't change to green.
    Please, let me know.
    Regards,

Apple cannot fix your PC... the warrenty for the PC is with Dell so only they (or an authorized repair centre) can repair it. Apple will repair your shuffle should it be faulty.
I would recommend trying a re-installation of Windows and if that doesn't work, contact dell for the repair.

  • Reset USB ports?

I know that there is a huge problem with apple devices not showing up in windows, which is part of the problem. However I have new problem.
When I plug in the ipod shuffle to the USB port nothing at all happens.
I used to plug it in and it would say unknown device or device was not installed sucessfully. Eventually it even stops saying that. Now it doesn't even show up in the device manager. Did I lock the device from being used some how? I've tried all the ports. all other usb devices work. Is there a way to reset the usb ports? I can plug the device into a wall socket to charge it just fine. Its the little guy with the audio jack base. I belive its a 2nd Gen. my computer is an HP elitebook running windows 7.
I finally bought the charger after months of not being able to listen to music and now this. I'm so frustrated. I even extracted the apple mobile device installer and tried to install it separetly. Even the latest itunes didn't work. I won't even know if I fixed the problem since the device wont even show up now.
    I'd appreciate any insight.

    Hi sniperzombies,
I apologize, I'm a bit unclear on exactly what you are describing. In the first post you said that it wasn't even showing up in the Device Manager, but in the second you said that Windows recognizes it. I'm also unclear what you mean by "installations of iTunes ... fail"; do you mean that you are unable to install/reinstall iTunes at all? Depending on the situation, you may find these articles more useful:

  • Shuffle causes Windows to stop recognizing all other USB ports!?!

When I plug my new Shuffle in to any USB Port, Windows stops recognizing all other USB drives. (this includes my internet connection and external hard drive with all music) If I disconnect the Shuffle and repower the other devices, they work normally again. I've seen this same problem on this forum and the answer did not help - here is the answer/link given the previous posting: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93499
The shuffle has its own drive letter on my computer, so no conflict here AND my husband's shuffle works just fine on this same usb port and same cradle. As soon as I eject the working shuffle and place the new one in the cradle, my computer shuts down and no other USB Ports work until I unplug the shuffle and repower the others. Maybe a shuffle problem?
    Thanks for your help!

Are you "eject"ing your husband's shuffle in iTunes OR are you "safely removing hardware" in Windows?

  • Ipod shuffle shuts down PC when put in USB port

    Hello
I found a discussion on this topic from 2006 but there were no solutions.  Hopefully in 2014 there is someone out there that can help me.
I have successfully synced, loaded and recharged ipod shuffle on PC.  But this week I plugged in my ipod shuffle (early generation) into the USB port to recharge, the system shut down, and I got the "blue screen of death". Windows XP blue screen indicated there was some software or hardware that might cause harm to PC.  I had to close PC by pressing button on tower.  I tried couple more times and got same message.  No harm has been done to PC as far as I can tell.  I used the Safely Remove Hardware device and not sure it worked but removed shuffle.  I did do this 2 or 3 times with same result each time.  Ipod shuffle still works.
    Thanks!

I have found the solution.  I installed the most recent updates and it works now.

  • Shuffle 1st gen works only in usb port, 2nd gen shuffle isn't noticed

I am aware these problems have not been solved anywhere on the internet but im praying someone has the answer to it.....maybe even someone from apple (but i dont think they care)
Lets start with my 1st gen shuffle
2 years ago it was accidently washed with my bottoms. Let it dry, charged it in the pc and everything seemed fine until i tried to listen to the songs that were still on it. The battery indicator showed no light even though while it was in the usb port, it showerd a solid green light (fully charged). Weeks later the new shuffle came out so i packed this 1 away and bought the 2nd gen.
Now my 2nd gen isn't working, so i thought i'd try again with the 1st gen. The same problem occurs even now. It charges fully but it seems dead outside of the usb port. I'm guessing the battery is dead but i await confirmation from someone with more knowledge than me.
Ok now the 2nd gen. I've had it for nearly 2 years and after a itunes update, the laptop or any other computer doesn't recognise it is connected. It still has a slight charge, the battery indicator is red (low batt) but still won't show up on windows or itunes. No lights flash when it is plugged in either.
With both shuffles i've tried EVERYTHING!! I've searched so many forums and tried everything. I even rinsed my 1st gen and let it dry off in rice (which made it completly dry over 24hrs, i'd recommend it if you ever drop your phone/ipod in water). I've heard too many people say they have the same problems with their 1st, 2nd and even 3rd ipod shuffles
I thought apple made the best mp3 players, but if the shuffles are just going to die all of a sudden with no hope of reviving them......then why else would apple keep making them and not allow people to return them? Its not our fault it happens.....1st gen was my fault.......but the 2nd gen looks BRAND NEW! I loved these shuffles but if they don't start working soon then i am not going to recommend them to anyone or even buy myself another 1. I'd rather have a cheap mp3 player that i wouldn't mind throwing away
All help is truly welcomed and thank you in advance

Is there anything that can be done?
    Sorry about my spelling people

  • So I stuck a key into one of the USB ports and then a message came up and it crashed straight away and now it won't turn back on.(the message was to do with the USB port taking to much power when there wasn't anything besides the key) help?

Please help! My mac is about 6 months old and I was just playing with my keys and stuck it in the USB port and then it crashed and won't turn on, it's not picking up the charger (the little led light isn't on) and pressing the power button does absolutely nothing

Don't be so surprised, people have stuck worse things in worse places before and it was on purpose

How am I meant to get the the apple menu if the laptop won't then on
Reset the SMC first. If this doesn't work, reset PRAM. Move down troubleshoot with links below. First, SMC reset for MBP models 2009 and later:
    Shut down the computer.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
Note: The LED on the MagSafe power adapter may change states or temporarily turn off when you reset the SMC.

  • Just updated to Yosemite, computer crashes everytime I unplug my WiMax from USB port

I have a MacBook Pro Retina, and updated from Mavericks OS X to Yosemite OS X.
Ever since the update, my laptop crashes everytime I unplug my WiMax portable internet from USB port.
The error message that appears says: “your computer restarted because of a problem, press any key to continue…”.
After pressing a key, the Apple logo and a loading bar appears, ~30s later, I am brought to login page.
I already tried to "repair disk permissions" in disk utilities, but the issue is not resolved.
Can you please teach me how fix my computer, so that it doesn't crash everytime I unplug my WiMax from USB port?
    Thank you very much!

I have the same problem in Yosemite. If I turn off or disconnect my G-Technology Thunderbolt drive, my MacBook Pro freezes/crashes every time. I get a dark screen and message: “Your computer restarted because of a problem…” (and then it restarts automatically).
I always eject the drive first with no issue. It’s just when I power the drive down or physically disconnect the cable that the crash occurs.
    Anyone find any solutions yet?
