My Shuffle kills displaying anything on my monitor when connected

I have faced an insane problem on connecting my Shuffle to PC. When I put my iPod on its dock, the signal on my display disappears, and my display looks like it is turned off, black screen and nothing more (for use it actually remains working). I can do nothing when it happens because I can see no mouse cursor, no iTunes window, no desktop, nothing except the black screen. Sometimes it happens when I connect my iPod, cometimes not. I cannot uderstand what is the reason and will my monitor be affected with iPod connection every next time or not. I am an experienced PC-user and have seen many troubles, but this one shocks me. I cannot understand at all, what is the connection between iPod and my videocard whick sends videosignal to my display via DVI-D interface.
Could someone help?

argh apple make this whole place confusing i cant make a thread or somethign w/e ok my screen cracked i fell down the stairs and i have been trying to contact apple FOREVER!!!! i am so frustrated someone help crying

  • More DIsplay Problems on HPx2301 Monitor when connected to my MacBook Pro - OSX Snow Leopard

    1) HP x2301 monitor
    2) OSX 10.6.8 AND OSX 10,7
    3) On-Screen Message "Monitor Going to Sleep"
    I previously reported that the problems with my new monitor had been fixed with a change in DVI cable.
    Unfortunately the fix lasted for one day.  I powered off both the monitor and macbook, came back the next day and the monitor no longer detects the power book.  Same is the case with an iMac and an old mac-mini.  My external older Viewsonic (connected also via the same DVI cable) has no problems.
    When the monitor is connected to the macbook, the macbook detects it and acts like it has dual screens - the System Preferences>Display app shows both monitors (and allows me to change resolution of the HP.  Dispite this, the Monitor cannot detect a signal from the Mac.
    Looks like a defective Monitor - will be contacting HP in the morning.
    Also of note is that the included Documentation describes 6 control buttons on the base of the unit, including an Auto Adjust button for the user to " Press to activate the auto adjustment feature to optimize the screen image."  Unfortunately, there are only 5 control buttons - there is no Auto Adjust button.
    The documentation makes no mention of OSX, although it appears that drivers for the monitor have been included in the OSX distributions.

    I'm back up - now using HP to mirror laptop screen.  Got replacement DVI cable from HP, plugged it in an Monitor is working (again).  So I have 3 seemingly identical cables - 2 supplied by HP, and one an older one I used with a Viewsonic DVI monitor.
    1) The cable that shipped  with the Monitor never worked,
    2) The older cable worked for one day with the HP,  then stopped working on the HP monitor, but worked with the older VIewsonic monitor,
    3) The replacement cable from HP that is working currently.
    I believe they are all DVI-i - pins appear to be identical on all three.
    So I don't think its a settings or cable type issue.  I suspect that the HP may have some circuitry that makes it very persnickity when it comes to signal detection - so perhaps there's some small variation is signal quality btween cables - not sure how to check that though.
    We shall see if the cable 3 works for extended period.

    My laptop screen just doesn't display anything (look like when the computer is off) but when I connect the external monitor, then the desktop will be displayed on that monitor. I tried to recover the laptop using the recovery disk and it worked again, but today, it stopped working again.
    I again have to plug in the external monitor, and after I tried to reboot, I keep pressing F8 but the start up mode doesn't come up, only the sound of when you keep pressing a button for too long beeps, however, the laptop monitor works again.
    How do I fix this problem?

    Hi
    According to your first posting I presume that LCD display on your notebook is defective. If you can not see BIOS settings or Toshiba welcome screen there must be some display problem.
    Experiment with external display is to be sure that graphic card is not responsible for that. In your case it works with external display and graphic card can not be responsible.
    Like I said try to enter bios settings and report if you can see Toshiba welcome screen.

  • Apple Studio Display 15" LCD Flatscreen Monitor to connect to my MBP

    hi have an older 15 inch studio display that has the ACD connection any suggestion on how to get it to work with my macbook pro to do dual monitors? thanks!

    In order to do this you need to use an adapter to go from DVI to ADC. This can be found here http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore.woa/wa/RSLID?mco=187 2D402&nplm=M8661LL/B
    Good luck hope that works out!

  • Why can't I get the full resolution on my Ultrawide monitor when connected to my MBP?

    I just purchased an LG Ultrawide 29" monitor to hook up to my Macbook Pro (Mid-2010 model). The full resolution should be 2560x1080. The only cable that came with the monitor was an HDMI to HDMI cable, so I used a miniDisplayport to HDMI cable that I had. The screen popped up on the monitor, but it was stretched out, and there was a message saying it wasn't configured to the full resolution (and that I need to change it in the Display settings). The problem is there's no option in the Display settings for anything larger than the 1920x1080 standard resolution for this monitor.
    I checked the manual that came with the monitor and it mentions that using an HDMI cable with a mac won't allow me to use the full resolution (or sound for that matter). It says instead I need to use a DVI-D dual link cable to get the monitor to work properly with a mac. Only problem is, this particular monitor doesn't have a DVI port on it (I think the manual was referring to a similar but possibly older version that had HDMI, Displayport and DVI ports on it). This one only has two HDMI ports and one Displayport port on it. I browse around online for people that had a similar problem, and I see a comment saying I just need to get a miniDisplayport to Displayport cable and then everything will work fine. I finally bought said cable (which a lot of places apparently don't carry), plugged everything in, and still no dice. The only resolution options for the monitor are still 1920x1080 and less.
    Is this a problem with my Macbook? From everything I've looked up, my graphics card (NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M) should support it, and it says right on the packaging for the Displayport cable that it should support up to a 2560x1440 resolution.

    Yeah, that's what I ended up doing. It just wasn't worth the hassle. I got a good (standard size) monitor for about half the price of the old one, so I'm not too disappointed. Thanks for your help though

  • Why does my 27 inch LED cinema display freeze my Macbook Pro when connecting?

    Hi,
    I've had a 27 inch cinema display for about 2 years now and love it.
    However, a good 50-70% of the time whenever I attach my MacBook Pro, currently 15 inch late 2011, rather than waking up the MBP, it just freezes the computer.  The same thing used to happen with my 13 inch MBP.
    Any ideas why that is?
    thanks,
    TT

    I finally decided to just take my MBP down to the Apple store and see what would happen if I connected it to one of their new ACDs.  At 1st, the guy at the Genius Bar told me that my MBP only supported 1280x800 as a maximum resolution.  I told him that was for my MBP screen, and not an external monitor.  Finally I convinced him to let me connect my MBP to one of their monitors.  Low and behold, looking at the Display settings pane I saw some addtional resolutions, including 2560x1600!
    So, now I have confirmed that my MBP can drive an external monitor to a resolution of 2560x1600, using just the single mini displayport connection.  I just have to figure out what's wrong with my ACD.  Suspecting that my older ACD might not support this higher resolution, I did finally discover that my model only supports a maximum resolution of 1920x1600.
    Sorry for all the confusion...

  • How do I get my windows to move to my external monitor when connecting one?

    I have the original Macbook and a 23" ACD. Ever since OS X 10.5, when I plug in my ACD, the windows stay on the Macbook screen. Before, in 10.4.x, the windows used to move over to the ACD, which is where the dock and menu bar are. How do I fix this?
    I've noticed that if I close the Macbook lid, then they move. But it's annoying to have the computer go to sleep and then wake up again just to get this to work. Furthermore, it takes a long time because for some reason my Macbook tends to not wake up until like 20 seconds later after I close the lid (could this be from the bluetooth keyboard and wireless mouse causing extra lag time?)

    Hi Ned,
    Thank you for your help. Your 2nd solution led me straight to the correct solution which is:
    slider_1._x = this._xmouse + groove_1._x;
    I use the object variable this instead of groove_1 as I am calling it from the function:
    groove_1.onMouseDown = function(){
        slider_1._x = this._xmouse + groove_1._x;;
    I also add the groove_1 left hand offset (groove_1._x;)
    Thanks again for you help.

  • LG monitor won't display anything via VGA cable

    After updating to Quicktime 7.5 my screen on my LG lcd monitor starting moving up and down when using my mouse. After fiddling with the display controls to lock it back down it no longer displays anything through the VGA cable connected via the DVI adaptor to the monitor.
    I am using a borrowed DVI cable to use the monitor, but I have to return that tomorrow. Tried permissions without any luck. Is there any fix for this problem so I can reuse the VGA cable without having to buy a DVI cable. Also, is there any solution to the floating screen problem?

    Thanks. That solved the zooming problem. The monitor will still not work with the VGA cable though. Looks like I'll have to get a DVI cable. I had one when I got the monitor but now I can't find it.

  • T420 - external 24" monitor DVI- Displayport : not detected when connected via KVM switch

    Hi,
    I've been using a 2port USB KVM Switch from InLine for a long time connecting a mac mini and a macbook pro
    to a 24" LCD. Recently I had to replace the MacBookPro with a T420. Unfortunately the T420 does not detect the
    monitor, when connected via the KVM switch.
    I tried:
    A) T420 -> Lenovo Displayport to DVI-Adapter -> KVM-Switch -> 24" monitor: NO SUCCESS
    B) T420 -> Thinkpad miniDock Series 3 DVI Port-> KVM Seitch -> 24" monitor : NO SUCCESS
    C) T420 ->Thinkpad miniDock Series 3 DVI Port-> 24" monitor - > SUCCESS
    D) T420 ->Thinkpad miniDock Series 3 VGA Port -> 24" monitor - > SUCCESS
    So I have a workaround, but leaving out the KVM switch is not a long term option.
    This is all on Win 7 professional / 64bit
    Using config (A) I then installed the Intel HD Graphics Driver version 8.15.10.2342 16 May 2011
    SURPRISE: during driver install, the monitor WAS detected!!!
    SECOND SURPRISE: after reboot I was back in the old situation where the monitor was NOT DETECTED
    CONCLUSION:
    Seems like a software issue with the Intel HD Graphice driver.
    ANY HINT/COMMENT/HELP highly appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Michael

    hey mgold,
    as the T420 works correctly with the external monitor and with the miniDock ; it is sad to say the the KVM switch is non-compatible.
    I would recommend that you get in contact with the manufacturer of the KVM. At the same time, try uninstalling the current video drivers of your T420 and see if it makes any difference with the KVM if the T420 is running on a generic driver

  • Shuffle has constant blinking orange light when connected to computer

    The shuffle constantly has a blinking orange light when connected to the computer. Itunes and the computer recognizes the ipod. I am getting the error, "The device 'Generic volume' cannot be stopped right now. Try stopping the device again later' when I try to eject the ipod. I have tried to restore the ipod and downloading itunes again and it doesn't work. Please help.

    I received an ipod shuffle for Christmas and am having the same problem. When I try to eject it (from either itunes or from "Safely Remove hardware" on Windows, i am told that there is another application trying to use the hardware with similar messages to those above.
    It even manages to freeze my computer on Shut Down and on Startup if i leave it connected, and only when I disconnect it does the computer start.
    i too would appreciate any help in resolving this.

  • I'm trying to set up a dual monitor for my new iMac. I'm using a second display I used with my old G5. My iMac recognizes the second monitor but the monitor won't turn on. Power button doesn't do anything on the monitor itself.

    I'm trying to set up a dual monitor for my new iMac. I'm using a second display I used with my old G5. My iMac recognizes the second monitor but the monitor won't turn on. Power button doesn't do anything on the monitor itself.

    If it won't turn on then the monitor is dead (power supply?, video circuits?).  Not worth repairing.
    If you have a new iMac then it has thunderbolt.  So exactly what is that monitor you are trying to connect?  For TB you can connect a mini-displayport monitor.   Probably (not 100% sure with TB) can use dvi or vga too if you have the appropriate adapter.

  • Apple IIGS RGB Monitor, does it display anything without a video source?

    I have a Apple IIGS RGB monitor no cable or computer to test it with. I just want to sell the monitor at this point. I don't recall in the past if this monitor displayed anything when it was powered on just lit up with when there was no video source. I just don't have the room to keep it and want to test it out. Since I have no way to get video is there a way to be able to test the monitor.
    That is does it show raster to something when powered up without a video source. I don't recall what my old monitors did without video. I don't think I remember turning them on without video. Would I assume that is should work if the power light comes on but no picture(no video source) or should it at least have raster(white or some color screen)?
    Thanks again,
    Nick

    Thank you, thats what I was afraid of. So it probably works, but I guess I will have to say it powers up and I have no way to test the video source to make sure. Does that sound about right? *I did try to adjust the brightness and contract but didn't see any changes.*
    Thanks again,
    Nick
    You're leaving out the most vital part in your summary. You should be able to see change in the brightness if you crank it up. You need to put that in your description for full disclosure.

  • MSI 970a-g46 motherboard starts up but doesn't display anything.

    Hello, I'm having problems with a new motherboard I got from Amazon, specifically the 970a-g46. The following are my specs in use with this motherboard:
    CPU: AMD Phenom 2 x4 965
    GPU: nVidia GeForce 560 GTX
    Ram: 8gb Kingston HyperX Fury 1866mhz.
    PSU: Corsair 650TX (650 Watts)
    Compatability-wise, everything checks out so I wasn't expecting problems at first. All the other parts excluding the ram I've used before. Here's exactly what happens:
    I power up the computer after everything is installed and connected. The 4 phase LEDs turn on which tell me the CPU is powered up and working (so I assume). I don't get any beeps or buzzs mainly because I don't see any speaker/buzzer on this board. The monitor blinks and while it is connected to my GPU, it doesn't display anything, it's just a black screen. I can leave it on for a few minutes and I'll still not see anything happen. An important observation here is that my keyboard which has LEDs will turn on after a short period of time in boot-up (with my older set-up that is). This does not happen ever regardless of how long I leave my computer on on this new mobo.
    I've gone over and checked/tested numerous things:
    * The PCI-E and ATX cables for the GPU, motherboard and CPU are all connected and secured (I've tried both 4-pin and 8-pin connections for the CPU, neither help).
    * I've tried jumping the CMOS multiple times to no avail.
    * I tested the ram on another computer and it worked just fine on that one.
    * I've tested the motherboard without a GPU and it still does nothing (though I think that's because this motherboard doesnt have its own integrated GPU for some reason).
    So far the only possible reasons why my computer is not working is because of my PSU (very unlikely as it's only a year old and it's a Corsair, which I've heard is very reliable in the long-run), GPU (It is quite a few years old but even without the GPU my computer still doesn't go past boot-up), CPU (possible due to its age and how many freaking time I've reseated it (probably around 8 times) so I wouldn't doubt it, but before I put it into this motherboard I did check its pins and they were all there and placed nice and smoothly into the socket.) and finally the motherboard (it's possible that this is just a defected motherboard and giving me a super hard time which would be a first in all the years I"ve spent computer building).
    The best case scenario of course is me giving some kind of oversight to how I transferred over the parts and connectors. I might've missed something obvious to please any advice/insight on how I can solve this problem would be greatly appreciated
    EDIT: Some other things I did but forgot to mention:
    * Checked ground nut things and ensured they matched the specifications of the motherboard ATX; only 6 are under the board and each one is aligned up with the holes on the board as designed.
    * Tried booting up without powering the CPU. Only one phase LED light came on, still the same problem (for an obvious reason this time now).
    * Re-seated GPU multiple times, re-connected cables multiple times.
    What I have NOT done is re-seat the CPU because I am almost out of acetone so I would need to get another supply of that which won't be until tomorrow. I also have not re-seated everything back on my older motherboard to check if it still works. Tomorrow I'll most likely do that and if I find that the old motherboard works flawlessly then that tells me that the new motherboard I got is either defected or there's some compatability issue I"m missed out on.
    EDIT 2: Just found a speaker and plugged it into the motherboard. Booted it up and I got no beeps whatsoever. So this mobo is giving me no video activity (there is a signal it's just blank), and no beeps from the motherboard. I have no idea what that could mean at this point.
    EDIT 3: I decided to test a few things with the new speaker I just got. First I removed ram and tried running, I got 3 beeps which I assume is the beep sequence of faulty/no ram. Removed the power to CPU and the GPU itself individually, gave no beeps this time.

    What's the serial number of your MB? Needed to determine what BIOS may be on the MB. Exactly which version of the CPU is it? There were several different 965 CPUs and they required different BIOS versions, 1.2, 1.9,2.2 depending on which CPU you actually have.
     Also another problem may be that native memory supported by your CPU is DDR3-1333, not 1866
     None of the supported CPUs have integrated graphics, any MB graphics would be in the chipset, not CPU. Examples would be 785G, 880G
    Thank you very much rhradacut! The problem was that the mobo for whatever reason was forcing 1866mhz on my CPU when it only supported up to 1600mhz. I had to install a spare ddr3 module to downclock it so that I could access the BIOS and manually set the DRAM timing to 1600mhz for it to work. That's a very strange problem that I figured would've been auto-resolved by the hardware, and would also be a big problem if I didn't have any spare DDR3 ram to work with.
    Once again thanks for helping out on solving my problem.
