My shuffle pauses for no reason

While running with my IPod Shuffle on, it suddenly pauses for no apparent reason.  At first it only happened once or twice during my run, but this weekend it happened about every 3-4 minutes.  It's very frustrating.  Any suggestions?

Have you double checked to make sure the headphones are plugged in all the way, meaning the white part of the headset is flush with the body of the Shuffle?
Do you have your iPod in a case to help prevent it from contacting into contact with too much moisture during your runs? It doesn't take a whole lot to trigger the Shuffle into doing wacky things.

  • HELP! iPod Shuffle Pauses for no reason!

Ive had my iPod shuffle around 6 months and around a week ago it randomly started pausing frequently half way through songs without my command. It just suddenly has outbursts of pausing and keeps pausing and as soon as I press play it pauses again until finally i give up and switch it off.
Ive tried updating it and charging it fully but no luck.
Anyone know whats wrong? Is the battery dying?
    Please Help.
    iPod Shuffle

It might be a dirty headphone socket. The iPod shuffle will enter pause if it detects that the headphone plug has been removed and I suspect that if the contacts becomes defective or dirty it could cause symptoms like you describe.
I'd try a series of rapid insertions and removals of the headphone plug to see if that might clean the switch or contacts. Also, I'm pretty certain that earlier versions of the shuffle firmware didn't have this headphone auto pause feature so if you could find a copy of the old firmware that might fix your problem.

  • Pausing for no reason

I have a new ipod nano and just started using it with a JBL brand external speaker system. Sometimes it will pause for no reason. I can manually get it to start again by using the ipod controls or the remote that came with the speakers. Usually after a few minutes, if left alone, it will come back to life on its own and start playing wherever it left off. If I do pause it myself, it will usually start playing again on its own after a few minutes, meaning that sometimes it's really hard to turn it off for good.
I thought the cat was messing with the remote at first, but the last few times I watched it happen without anyone touching anything. I tried resetting the ipod, but I haven't noticed any changes. Any ideas?

Since your issue started when you started the JBL system, contact their customer support department.

  • Music keeps pausing for no reason...

    Hi all,
My iPod Shuffle is acting really strangely. Whenever I start listening to a track, after about 30 seconds, it just pauses. No reason, no touching of any button... it just stops.
I press play again and it picks up from where I left off.
I've just restored the device and re-synced, but it's still happening. Do you think the device itself is messed up and I'll need a new one? Don't really know what else to do.

I've been experiencing the same problem, and I am using third party speakers.
    Is this a known problem?

  • IPhone 4S OS 5.0.1 - Music and YouTube pauses for no reason!

    Hi,
I am frustrated with a major issue with my iPhone 4S.
Recently, when I listen to music on the iPhone it pauses repeateldy with no reason.  It happens every 1-1.5 minute and on every track I tried in my library.  This is not specific to HOW I am listening to music.  It happens when I am on Apple's headphones, Beats headphone, iPhone speaker, car bluetooth...etc.  I turned music Sound Check and Shake to Shuffle OFF as was suggested in other threads, but didn't help the issue.
The same thing started happening on the same device while watching YouTube videos!  So, the video will be playing (and is fully downloaded, so it is not a buffer issue), and then it would pause!  I have to click play to get it to play.
The phone was functioning normally just a week ago.
I feel it is a hardware issue relating to some kind of static, but this thing happens even when the phone is on a table with no one touching it.
PLEASE HELP APPLE!  It seems like it is a known issue but can't get around to resolving it.
    thanks,

    Hi,
This is a user to user message board, therefore if you want to address Apple, you probably should go on www.apple.com/support/.
However, it may (or may not) be a problem like something that makes the phone believe you are pressing pause on the remote. Try to clean the jack connector (obviously not with any kind of liquid)

  • IPod keeps pausing for no reason

My iPod keeps pausing during a song for no apparent reason. is this related to my earphones? They are plugged in. Perhaps the headphone jack?

this is one of two problems:
    1) your headphones are causing the ipods headphone jack to think that the headphones are out, therefore pausing.
2)there is a defective part in your ipod's headphone jack.
i would try using somebody elses earphones for a while to see if it is your earphones that are causing the problem.

  • Published file pauses for no reason

I have a captivate 4 question. I published a file and it plays fine, no pauses waiting for the user to click next except on one slide. I don't see any click boxes on that slide and can't figure out how to get it to advance automatically or what's preventing it. Any one have any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    ~Beth

    Hello,
Indeed, nothing that pauses to be seen on the timeline. Could you check if the action on entering this slide is set to Continue? That is about the only possible reason I can think of.

why does my ipod touch 4th generation pause on its own during play?

    - Reset the iPod. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPod.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

  • TS4068 I preordered a book.  When it came it, I must have initiated a download but it got paused for some reason. I cannot get it to un-pause. I go to purchased section in store and see the book with a download button next to it won't download

I preordered a book that seems to have gotten paused in download. I go to "purchased" in store and see the book with a download button next to it but when I hit the download button, I get a message saying that I have already purchased the book and that I should go to purchases and hit download. Weird and vicious circle. How can I fix this or get my money back for the book and start over?

I have this exact problem.  Have you sorted your's out yet????  No-on can give me a satisfactory answer or solution. Is there any way iBooks cab completely cancel the purchase so we can start all over again?

  • Random pauses for no reason

I am using iTunes 7.0.2 on Mac OS 10.4.8 with airport express (airTunes) to play my music to my stereo. I've never had any trouble with this before, but recently the music has been stopping for a few seconds every few minuets.
It starts again where it left off, and the track time stops counting while it's frozen. I haven't noticed if it's happening with particular file formats, and it doesn't seem connected with loading the next song or anything like that.
Anyone else been having this problem?

I have been having the same issue since upgrading ITunes and my firmware, not sure which might be causing it. I intially thought it might be the external hard drive I am using to store my Music, but after I moved a block to the system hard drive I eventully got the same issues.

  • Netflix pausing for no apparent reason

    Hello,
I have a 27" imac purchased in Jan 2014.  Chose max CPU, RAM, graphics card, etc.  I have one problem that I can't pin down.  While watching netflix, only on HD movies, the movie pauses for a second or maybe two seconds every minute or so.  Apple says its a netflix problem, Netflix says I don't have a good network connection.  Note that It's not a traditional buffering type pause.  Nothing extra appears on the screen (i.e. buffering messages).
I get 30mbps down stream routinely on Comcast.  My router is a time capsule purchased Oct 2013, so should be the most current model.  I have the problem via wifi (max bars signal strength and 3 feet from computer to router) and Cat 6 cable.  So I don't see how it could be a throughput issue.
The OS is completely up to date and the router is running latest firmware.  I've uninstalled Silverlight and reinstalled it.  Same problem.
I can't help but wonder if there is some problem with the graphics card.  Anybody else having this problem?  Any ideas on what I can do to solve it?
    Thanks!

    How Much RAM installed?
Do you run any tyoe of antivirus software on your Mac? Antivirus software can slow down the normal operation of OS X.
How many applications do you run simultaneously in the background while working in another application?
Do you have apps like MacKeeper or any other so called maintenance apps like CleanMyMac 1 or 2, TuneUpMyMac or anything like these apps, installed on your Mac? These types of apps, while they appear to be helpful, can do too good a job of data "cleanup" causing the potential to do serious data corruption or data deletion and render a perfectly running OS completely dead and useless leaving you with a frozen, non-functional Mac.

  • Ellipsis 7 tablet - drops wi-fi and goes to mobile data w/o telling you, and for no reason?

I don't totally hate my Ellipsis 7 tablet.  It does have a nice, bright screen, and it does have a fairly fast processor.
This is where the compliments stop.
1.) It's glitchy.  As others have stated, icons do seem to disappear.
2.) It seems to "lose communication" with my high-end Sandisk micro-sd card (that has no other problems when used in my smartphone.)
3.) The battery life could be a lot better - you will charge it every day, even with minimal use.
but my biggest problem with this tablet (which I got from my local Verizon store) is it's "sneaky behavior" with mobile data.  I am nearly convinced that these devices are designed, intentionally, to use up your mobile data whenever possible, even when solid wi-fi is available.
Have any of you Verizon Ellipsis 7 users, that use these primarily at home with wi-fi available, noticed a rather large increase in the mobile data being used?
This is sort of long, so I appreciate everyone who takes the time to read this...
Here's my scenario; which I can duplicate.
I live in a place with 2 strong wi-fi networks available.  The tablet accesses both of them with no problem.  Speed tests show 10Mbps download and 0.768 Mbps upload, the speed we pay for.
One night, I get the text messages from Verizon that I'm close to using all my mobile data. (which I appreciate)  But I'd been getting so many texts, emails, etc., that day I didn't look to see what the alert was.  My bad!  So, I'd gone over and approved $10 to upgrade with one more GB of data.  I figured it was a fluke; that somehow I had turned off my wi-fi, or it had gone down, or somehow something happened that made the tablet switch over to mobile data.
...but I was watching more closely now...
less than 24 hours later, I'm getting those messages again!  I'd used one GB in less than 24 hours???  So I called Verizon, and we went through the normal putting limits on the device, etc., so it couldn't happen again.
So then, I asked him the simple question?  When not 1, but 2, strong wi-fi signals are available, why would this device switch over to mobile data, WITHOUT letting you know???
He couldn't answer that. He transferred me to someone else that was "higher" in techincal support.  She was a sweet girl, and really wanted to help me, but she never understood my problem.  At one point I said to her, "Look, it's simple.  These devices always default to wi-fi if available.  What would make them disconnect from wi-fi and go to mobile data instead?"  Her answer was that she needed to look up if a tablet was supposed to connect to wi-fi first...  uh, OK.
At the end of a very frustrating call, she offered to send me a box to ship it back to Verizon in.  They would then decide to repair or replace it.  I would be without a tablet for a minimum of two weeks.  I said Thanks but No Thanks, I would just disable mobile data entirely.  The lady I spoke with did not seem pleased with my decision, but what could she do?  And we ended the call.
So, I'm still trying to figure out what is making this thing kick over to mobile data (remember I just shut mobile data off entirely before I hung up with Verizon) and I was currently connected to an external bluetooth speaker (which shouldn't have anything to do with anything, I realize), when I started a video on YouTube.
Now, mind you, I was ALREADY showing connected to a strong wi-fi network.
And up comes a dialog popup, asking me to turn the wi-fi back on, even though I would incur additional charges!
    BUSTED, VERIZON!
This message doesn't come up when it tries to switch over from wi-fi to mobile data unless you have completely shut off mobile data.
I only mention that I was connected to an external bluetooth speaker because it is the only way (SO FAR) that I have been able to duplicate this "silent switchover" repeatedly.
If I'm on Youtube first, not connected to my bluetooth external speaker, the device will stay on my wi-fi network when I pause the video, connect to the bluetooth speaker, and then restart the video.
If I'm already connected to the external bluetooth speaker, and then open a browser window or youtube video, the device will attempt to change its connection from wi-fi to mobile data.  There is no reason for this!
Yes, yes...  I realize that being connected to an external bluetooth device should have absolutely nothing to do with whether the tablet should keep its wi-fi connection or switch to mobile data...
except that it does!  And there may be other circumstances that I haven't found yet...  I don't know, but I'm watching!
At the end of the day, ANY DEVICE THAT IS GOING TO SWITCH FROM A WI-FI NETWORK TO MOBILE DATA, FOR ANY REASON, SHOULD TELL YOU IT'S GOING TO SWITCH, AND LET YOU DECIDE TO ALLOW THAT CHANGE OR NOT, especially when there is NO REASON for the device to switch in the first place.  In the same household are my Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and husband's Galaxy S5.  They never exhibit this behavior, and yes, we use internet on our phones at home rather frequently.
    Watch your mobile data folks...
Oh, and the Verizon lady called back about 30 minutes later...  asking me again to agree to send my tablet in.  I explained to her that I could now duplicate the problem.  I told her that it would be easy enough for them to check and see if all devices are doing it (which I'm guessing they all do!  there's not enough memory to download any apps, so I doubt it's that...)  I said that with the millions of Ellipsis 7 devices they have, someone in tech support can grab one and try it.  Still no luck, and she still wanted me to send it back and be without a tablet for 2 weeks or more.  I declined.
Anyway, if you've read this far, I thank you!  I would like opinions as to whether you think this should be happening or not, and whether you have had this happen to you or not with this tablet.  Thank you for your time!

Hello this is happening to us also (minus the Bluetooth speaker).  We can't figure out what is causing the data usage.  I turned off mobile data as soon s I activated the device, and got the message that unless I am connected to WiFi.....(that is exactly what I wanted). We watched Netflix for about three hours, then the alerts started.  Like you we have many devices connected and never used over 2GB now all of a sudden we have used it in a matter of hours.  My husband called Verizon  and got the usual doubting Thomas response.  I understand that they don't know my device settings.  So over the phone we check all the settings and turned  off every possible culprit eating up the data and end the call.  By now I have purchased another gig for the month!  Assured we are NOT using mobile data, we continue on the IE path to bliss.  HA!  A few hours later I check the mobile data usage on the Verizon website and that darn thing is still using data.  After two more phone calls and two VERY uneventful trips to the local store we were told to take out the sim card.  This has stopped the data usage, but it defeats the purpose of having the data plan.  I could have just stuck with my Surface.  Verizon sent us a new sim card.  Its been installed and I have set my homepage to Verizon mobile data usage (just kidding) but I am on that site a lot.   I am surprised at the number of complaints about this device.  When we called the Verizon support acted as though this was the first time they had heard about this.   Loved your post, you should write for a living.

  • Songs pausing for a few seconds when using speaker docking system

Got a Logitech AudioStation speaker docking system. Every 3 or 4 songs played seems to pause for up to 5 seconds then continues playing normally. The pause icon doesn't appear on the ipod, just the play icon. The countdown timer pauses though. Also skipping songs with remote control a problem. Sometimes skips two with one press. Also takes a few seconds to 'think' between songs. ipod also defaults to shuffle album every time it's docked. Anyone else experienced these problems? Is it docking system or ipod?

  • I resently got an ipad and for some reason most songs dont play.

I got an ipad for christmas and i love it but for some reason i cant play all my songs. i can play 2-3 out of like 200 or something. i have tryed everything i know to and i figure ill ask online b4 going to a store. Also everytime i select one it shuffles and plays the same song. Its driving me crazyyyyy!!!1

Have you tried quitting the Music App completely and then reboot the iPad?
Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Double tap the home button and the task bar will appear with all of your recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close. Tap the home button or anywhere above the task bar.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
If this is synced music - You can also try unsyncing the music and then sync it back to the iPad and see if that helps.
