My shuffle will not connect and is not recognized anywhere

I have had my shuffle for quite awhile... just after they came out with them. Everything has been going fine with it until about a week ago I connected to update it and a window popped up that said "Your iPod may be corrupt...". Since then I have not been able to connect my shuffle to my computer, it will not charge, and is not recognized by any computer. If anyone can help me I would greatly appreciate it, if not I guess its time to get a new iPod. Thanks!

A good news/bad news post...
I had the same problem, with my shuffle (original
512k). I couldn't run the reset utility because the
computer (imac) wouldn't even recognize that it was
connected. I pretty much gave up on it, but last
night I plugged it into the USB port to try it one
last time - nothing happened. But I forgot to pull
it out when I shut down and this morning while I was
working suddenly the shuffle was recognized by the
computer (actually a box came up saying the device
needs to be initialized or something). I quickly ran
the reset utility, the shuffle was recognized, itunes
launched and I was able to add music. I was so
excited I decided to share the news with the forum,
but while typing this very message the shuffle
disappeared from the desktop and I got a message
saying the device was removed improperly. Now the
bad news... if I plug in the shuffle it is once again
unrecognized by the computer. But at least I got
some tunes back on it, until I buy a replacement! And
it did charge...

Try it in the iBook's USB ports...

first: why did you download the iOS Beta 8? If you are a developer, go to the Apple Developers website and check what they can do for your case.
second: setup an appointment to a Genius Bar for service.

Assuming you bought the song at the iTunes Store, you can go here
    http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/
and follow one of the "paths" to get what you need or to an Apple customer support employee.  One path is to click Contact Support at the bottom of the list of choices, and use the Express Lane.
The iTunes app also has a way to report a problem with a purchase.  Select iTunes Store in the sidebar (of the iTunes window).  Toward the upper right corner, click on your Apple ID.  This gets you to your Account Information screen.  Find Purchase History and click See All.  On that screen, you can select a specific purchase with that problem, and Report a Problem.
If you want to try to figure out WHY that song does not play on your iPod shuffle, please post back...

Are there any other wireless devices that might cause interference?
Also are there any nearby Wi-Fi networks that might have the same name as yours? It amazing how many Linksys Wi-Fi networks are out there.

  • TS3572 My 4th gen ipod shuffle will not show up in iTunes

My 4th gen ipod shuffle will not show up in iTunes, and is not recognized by my computer. I am using a MacBook Pro purchased six months ago, with all software up to date. I am using the most recent version of iTunes, and the original factory connector.  It does charge through the computer, but is not seen by the computer.  I have gone through all of the recommened troubleshooting, and have verified that the connectors are plugged in properly.

    Thanks for a reply
The cable that I'm using came with my 5th gen nano. The 6th gen Ipod shows that it's connected but the computer doesn't see it, so I don't think that it's the cable.
I did try this before when looking at the troubleshooting guide and nothing happens. It just resets and then the Ipod screen tells me that it's connected to the computer. It still is unseen by Itunes and no where to be found in my computer.
I don't have another computer to plug it into at the moment but I may be able to visit a friend that owns a decent PC in a few days. If that doesn't work out I will be getting a new lap top in a week and I'm hoping that it will work on that, but it won't be a Mac. So, let's say it works when I plug it into one of these computers, should I reset my Ipod from there or is there something else I should do?

  • Shuffle Will Not Load, Update or Restore.

Shuffle Will Not Load, Update or Restore on my PC. I get error messages or it freezes when ever I try. I have tried re-installing i-Tunes, I have tried re-installing an earlier version of i-Tunes, I even tried updating my USB driver. The error messages I get are 1451, and -50. We have two shuffles and both of them are getting the same errors. Please Help!!

Here is your fix, this is a post from Albertech842 in another forum. It worked for me in Windows. I'm going to post it as a new topic, because SO many people have this problem and I spent HOURS trying to fix this:
Alright, this is what I did, my only fix. Disconnect the iPod from the computer. Then go to "start> right click my computer>
manage> services and applications> services> click iPod service> click stop service." Then connect the ipod and it should show up in my computer. Format it so all content is gone. Next, go back to "start> right click my computer>
manage> services and applications> services> click iPod service> click Start service." This should have the service running again. Open iTunes and connect the shuffle. When it says to automatically fill it (the window that pops up) dont unclick it, proceed so the shuffle autofills. Before it stops, quickly go to the settings tab. Then, scroll down to where it says "enable disk use". select that and hit apply. Now, you manually eject the iPod and you can manage your music! I had the same problem as you and this eliminated the problem! Hope this helped.

  • My Shuffle will not stay on

My shuffle will not stay turned on. When I turn it on the green light comes on for about 4 seconds or so than goes out. The unit seems to work fine when docked. Any suggestions?

I thought I was having the same problem. When first connected to the computer the light blinks orange. When opening itunes it stops blinking and appears to be charging. Everything syncs fine. Diagnostics says all is well. The light never goes green. As soon as I undock it the light goes out as if it is not charged. This was very frustrating and I read some posts about it. However, after actually trying the unit...by connecting earphones/plugs to the jack and switching the unit on...it plays...it plays just fine. The power light never stays on...even when playing. I dont think it is supposed to work this way...but it does

  • My 2nd generation shuffle will not sync with itunes. Why?

I have done everything I can think of. I have restarted my mac several times, restarted Itunes and my 2nd generation shuffle will not show up in my iTunes. I just updated my iTunes and Mac to the latest version. Any help? Why wont my itunes connect to my ipod shuffle??

When iTunes is NOT running, does the shuffle show up on the Desktop, or appear in Disk Utility (when you run it)? Or, if you run System Profiler
Apple Menu -> About This Mac -> More Info -> System Report (if running Lion)
does the shuffle appear as a device under Hardware/USB?
If it is being recognized by the Mac in some way, you may be able to get it working again, using the iPod Reset Utility
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1238
This utility is for 1st and 2nd gen iPod shuffles only, as a "lower level" reset when you can't do a regular Restore in iTunes.
If the Mac is not seeing the shuffle at all, there is probably a problem with the USB connection, probably the USB cable/dock or the connection point on the shuffle (headphone jack) becoming faulty.  To rule out the USB port in the Mac, be sure to try different ports.  If you have been using a USB hub (or the spare keyboard port), be sure to try a direct port on the Mac.  And be sure to try it with ALL other USB devices (except standard mouse and keyboard) disconnected, in case there is some USB device conflict happening.

  • My ipod shuffle will not charge...what can i do?, my ipod shuffle will not charge...what can i do?

my ipod shuffle will not charge fully, the light that comes on when i try to charge just flashes red, and the battery lasts for about 20 mins max and then advises battery is low and then dies!

That's often an indication that the dock connector at the bottom of the phone is either dirty or damaged.  Blow compressed air on it and/of gently brush it with a clean, dry toothbtush.  Also be sure the usb cable is able to make a good connection to the connector without being obstructed by your case.  If it's a tight fit, try removing your case.

My 4th generation shuffle will not play podcasts, even though they show as loaded on the legend on the left on the itunes site.  The shuffle is set to play everything in order. The type on the content is gray, thats strange.  And why the new annoying content format?

  • Shuffle will not play in rav4

shuffle will not play in new rav4. auto radio says to check ipod firmware. where do I go for this?

iTunes will let you know if there is a software update for your shuffle model available.  There is no way to "check iPod firmware" and do something to make a change.
You should confirm that your shuffle model is supported by the car audio system.  Shuffles are different from the "bigger" iPods (and iPhone).  They are simplified devices (especially if 1st or 2nd gen shuffle), and may not have the capacity to interact with a car audio system.

  • My Shuffle will not play any songs

my shuffle will not play any songs. when i turn it on the green light stays on for about ten secs and nothing happens. it is the same way when i switch it to the last swtich thing. i have reset it and restored it and updated it and nothing seems to work. it was working fine 2 days ago and it started yesterday to give me problems. any suggestions would be greatly appreacated.

Just try charging it properly, make sure you're inserting it into a proper high-power usb port (and not necessarily a high speed usb 2.0 ) and you can make sure its charging if the light turns amber (orange). You should leave it to charge for 4 hours the first time (from 3 to 6:16 isn't enough), until the light finally turns green, or until u get really bored!

  • My shuffle will not work!! it charges but once of charge it doesn't work, reset it but still no joy?? any ideas??

my shuffle will not work!! it charges but once of charge it doesn't work, reset it but still no joy?? any ideas??

I did a little bit of experimenting. I have an iPad original versions myself. I took it out of the box knowing that I haven used it in months and I expected the battery to be dead and sure enough the battery was as dead as I imagined it would be. For the first 30 minutes I experienced exactly what you are experiencing, but then the iPad suddenly powered up on its own (like it does when plugged into the charger) and I am using it now to type this response to you.
My point is that I am starting tothink that your battery has suddenly died on you for some reason or you have a hardware problem now. I would still try leaving the iPad charge for a while longer - maybe even overnight - and then try again in the morning. Unplug the iPad and try resetting with the home and sleep buttons. Try plugging the iPad in again. Unplug it, try restarting again. Let it charge for a while again.
After trying something like that, if it still will not start up, then I think it's time for a trip to an Apple Store and see what the Apple Techs think.

  • Shuffle Will not sync with iTunes

My shuffle will not sync with iTunes.  It says it has sync'd, but when I try to play my songs, it gives me a message that I need to sync with iTunes.  It even says in iTunes that my playlist is on my shuffle.  Help?

Have you tried a Disk Repair in the Disk Utility?
Also, you could have a damaged iPodDriver.kext file.
You can replace it by doing an archive and install or
use a 3rd party extractor and get it from your
Install disk. Or copy it from a friends Mac.
I have tried the Disk Repair in Disk Utility and it says my iPod shuffle is perfectly normal. I then decided to erase it with Disk Utility using Mac OS Extended (Journaled) but it didn't work, either. I am beginning to think this is a software problem with my computer...
I will try to replace the iPodDriver.kext file, but unfortunately, I lost the Tiger install disc. Can I use the install disc that came with my eMac (Mac OS X 10.2 Jaguar, I think)? Please let me know soon, and thanks for helping!
P.S. If I can't install it from my eMac install disc, I think I will copy the iPodDriver.kext file from a computer at my library or somewhere else. I can also borrow a friend's Tiger disc and use Pacifist, a great program for extracting .pkg files, to get a fresh iPodDriver.kext file.
