My sister and myself are getting each others text messages. Help! (Hard Question)
This whole problem started when I first got my Iphone 5 around christmas time of last year. And i did the normal activation of my new Iphone and syncing my old iphone 4 with this new phone. I synced everything and it was all good, but i started to get these random text from people in my message log. I soon found out that i was recieving every text that was sent to my sister. And if i replied to someone who was texting my sister it would show up like she texted them, not me on a seperate number. Also when i text my sister she would get the text but immidiatly after i sent her it, i would also get a text from myself saying what i sent her. I will literally get a text message from my own number to myself, (Weird ****). So its like my sisters text messaging is fused with mine. Its only messages though, no images or anything else. In the beginging i didnt care about this becasue she wasnt recieving my text i was only getting hers. But now just today she tells me she is getting my text too. And thats a problem! This problem lasted all the way up to about 2 months ago and then i stopped getting her messages. But i gave one of my friends my old iphone 4 and once they activated it for there own use it started to happen again. They use a seperate plan then i do and there number on the phone is different. Before i gave them the phone i wiped everything off of it. i took off the contacts, messages, everything. They use a different apple account and icloud account now on the phone. So idk why it started up again i need help. Here is some background. My whole family shares the same apple account with everything. We have seperate phones, numbers and data for the most part. But with dealing with Icloud and itunes anything like that, we use the same account. My sister uses a Iphone 4s btw. With my old Iphone 4 i had no probelms with this, everything was normal. But once i switched to the new iphone 5 this problem has occured. Idk what this is about, i havent heard anyone else with this problem, but i need help! btw my other family members on their phones do not have this problem. So i think it has to do something with the icloud but im not sure! This is a serious problem and i need help! Goodluck!
Get your Apple ID sort out.
Only use the same Apple ID in Settings > iTunes & App Stores to share purchases, no where else.
Here some tips, it was written for IOS 5 but it's still valid for iOS 6.

I last updated my husbands iPhone 4 and since then we are getting each others text messages. Sometimes when I text a person that is on bothe our contacts it will come through as my husband and not me.
Try this:
On all impacted devices, go to settings, messages, send & receive and place a checkmark next to only those phone numbers and email addresses listed you want that device to recognize.
Good luck!

My wife and I are getting each other's text messages. How do I turn that off so I get mine and she gets hers?
On each Device, go to Settings>Messages>Send and Receive... and make certain that each device only has 2-items with check marks your phone number and your email address. click on the other persons number and email address such that it is not checked.

After installing IOS6 on my iphone 4 and my daughters iphone 4s we have this wonderful connection that we would like to break. We are now seeing/receiving each others text messages. I love my daughter but I don't really want to get all of her text messages from her friends and I don't really want to read every response she sends. Additionally, she can also see my text messages and there are times I really don't need for her to know everything that I am doing.
So It is time to cut the cord we need our own seperate texting. I am not sure what we did to have this happen but how do we undo it?Get your Apple ID sort out.

hi
This is all new to me...As a parent,I have my iphone with my account for apple with my email as the main contact address...here's the problem.
My two teenagers ALWAYS get or at least can read from their phones/ipads ALL my texts i send/receive and vice versa from my friends.
Since they are just 16- they share my account on Itunes/apple etc... QUESTION! Is there a way that I can BLOCK their iphones/ipads from getting my personal messages???
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thank You!!If you use the same Apple ID for iMessage you'll get each other's text messages. You can still share the same ID for iTunes, but you should use separate IDs for iMessage. To change the ID, go to Settings>Messages>Send & Receive, tap the ID, sign out, then sign back in with a separate ID. (You should do the same thing in Settings>FaceTime to avoid getting each other's FaceTime calls.)

HT204053 my husband updated his phone now everyone is getting each others text messages
after updating we now have all users getting each others texts
Welcome to the Apple Community Gretchen
You could simply ensure that only the numbers and addresses you wish to use on each device are checked at Settings > Messages > Send & Receive. However this isn’t an ideal solution because the other person can always change these settings from their device and have some fun with you and your contacts.
You’d be far better getting them to delete your account from their device and have them create one of their own. If you are sharing an ID for some other service such as iTunes, you can continue to do so, you only need change the ID for messages. -
Hi I have my laptop, ipad and apple 4 phone. Youngest daughter has ipad mini which I connected to my laptop to download free games, music and photos, now the ipadmini thinks its me and we are getting each others messages etc. If I reset the ipadmini to factory settings, will this delete and/of effect my Ipad, Apple phone, I don't want everything DELETED on my devices. HELP
ThanksYes it would be her device you remove your account from, but she would need an email address to have an Apple ID.
I guess if it's only messages that you want her to use, you could create an iCloud email address alias and let her use that for messaging.
First you'd need to create an alias for your iCloud address, you can do this at iCloud.com > mail, click on the gear icon in the bottom left corner and select preferences, then choose the accounts tab. The alias could be her name.
After creating an alias you will need to add it to her device as an ID for messages, go to settings > messages > send & receive > Add another email.
While you are there make sure she only sends and receives messages from that address, you also need to ensure the same settings on your devices use anything but that address. -
My husband and I share an Itunes account so use the same email address and password. Our iphones are now connected and we get each other's messages and share each other's contacts. How can we stop this happening?
A couple of different approached:
Create a second AppleID for one of you that includes the email address and phone number you wish to use for messaging, but do not apply it to the iTunes and app store (just keep the current one). My wife and I do this and it works quite well. Also allows for easier syncing of Contacts , notes etc. using icloud if you wish to do that.
Add additional emails/phone numbers to the existing account and change the Send/Receive settings for Messages. this will not fix the Contcts isues for you however. -

Okay, so I cracked my iPhone 5 and just got a new 5s in the mail. I'm using the same number, sim and everything. My latest backup was on March 14th, 2013. My boyfriend uses my Apple ID for a year now but we just recently got each others contacts and now we receive each other's messages. Will we lose that setting if I don't back my phone up before switching new phones? Cause I didn't have that setting before when it was last backed up. If I could back it up I would but I don't have nearly enough storage so that's why I'm asking lol. We want to keep the setting like that so we still get each others contacts and everything
You can always resync the Contacts, Notes, and Messages by signing into those services with the same AppleID once you have the new phone set up.

We are recieveing each others texts, it has only happened since we upgrated to iOS6. We only get each others iMessages.
You have two issues: 1. iPad is designed for single person use, not multiple users like a computer is, 2. Everyone trying to use this "single person" device uses the same Apple ID. As far as iMessage is concerned, this is the same person...how would it know differently?
There is no solution to fix this. Even if everyone got their own Apple ID's, you're still trying to use a device, designed to be used by a single user, with multiple users. It simple is not gonna work, and if you manage to get it to work, it won't work very well. -
Can my family still use the 'find my iphone' app from our iphones / ipod touch to locate each others phone if we have separate apple ids? We were sharing a single apple id but recently we started getting each others texts/facetimes .. I read that this happens when you share an apple id. Will we just have to sign in with the others' apple id to locate their phone ?
Use Find My Friends app instead. Much easier to manage, and you won't need each other's id/pw's to do it. They only need to accept your invitations and vice versa.

How do i make icloud work if my husband and I share the same itunes account but we dont want to get each others contacts, messages, apps etc?
Each of you should set up your separate iCloud account on your own computer using your Apple ID. This gives you two independent iCloud accounts.
Note that an iPad is not a multi-user device. It can only be synced with one account. -
After i updated to IOS6 my wife and i keep getting each others imessages.
after i updated to IOS6 my wife and i keep getting each others imessages.
This is caused by using the same Apple ID for iMessage. To prevent this you need to use separate IDs. (You can continue to use the same ID for purchasing; it does not need to be the same as the one used for other services such as iMessage.)
On the phone that will be changing, go to Settings>Messages>Send & Receive, tap the Apple ID at the top, sign out, sign back in with a different ID. -
My wife and I both have an iphone. We initially set them up under one apple id account. When we text sometimes we will receive each others text messages from others. Example I will text a friend...she will not see my text but the reply comes to both of us. It seems to be random which ones. Any ideas how to correct this
Yup, get your own AppleID.
The messages that are being sent to both phones are technically not text, they are Apple's iMessage. They use the data part, not the texting part. So if you have an iPad or a Mac computer, you can send/receive the iMessages there too.
