My sister got locked out of her macbook air. What can I do to help her get back in?

She tried to reset her password and that wasn't working so she gave up and shut the laptop. When she opened it both her old password and new password failed. :/ She was confused because it hadn't reset her password in the beginning so why wouldn't her old password work?

In iTunes go to iTunes Store > Account (right column) > Purchase History > See All > Report a Problem. Explain that it's a duplicate purchase and within a few days you should receive a refund.
There is also a Report a Problem link on the receipt you should have received by email.

You need to set the option to create a mobile account using the Directory Utility app.

This is the OS X Server 10.6 forum, and the server software isn't usually found on MacBook Pro systems — I'll guess that you're really not running the server software here. (I mention this because resetting the administrative passwords with OS X Server software installed can be quite different...)
If you have a second administrative login, you can use that.
If you don't.... If you're running 10.6, boot the installer DVD and use the Utilities menu to reset your password.
If you're running 10.7 or 10.8, here are some official instructions and also see this or this for some related sequences.

Notes has always worked perfectly, but today, on my Macbook Air, not on my iPhone, if I try to create a new note or message or email a note, the program becomes un-responsive and I have to force quit.

My default account is icloud, and there are a lot of notes that are valuable to me and I need to save.

That sounds like a hardware problem. Contact Apple for service. If you have an Apple Store near you, make an appointment at the Genius Bar and take it in for the techs to look at.

Backup is taking up over 30gb of storage on my macbook air, what can I do about this?

...and that is actually the largest thing on there...why so big? is this normal? shouldn't my backup all be with time machine on the external hard drive?

OS X Lion and later make local snaphsots on your flash storage if Time Machine is enabled. Nothing to worry about.
They will be removed when your drive is getting full, so there's no reason to be worried. Anyway, if you want to remove them, open System Preferences > Time Machine, and turn it off. Then, turn it on again

After bringing my Mac mini home and starting up with a foreign language which I managed to change to english, but found when the screen saver came one and I went to get back in I could not as it did not recognise my password. Apple retail that installed the snow leopard because with issues with lion and now I cannot get in. I logged on to discussions and printed off the instructions to reset the administrative password. I inserted my snow leopard disk to reset the password but it still wants the password. Is there anyway that I can override this and follow the instructions I printed.

Final Cut with new Macbook Air -what can I expect?

Hi, I have the 2011 MBA 13", 4gig ram, i7, 256g SSD.
My hope is to use the latest Final Cut with the internal SSD drive to edit basic music videos and music interviews.
A typical project will have multiple angles filmed from a few DSLR's that I want to cut between, along with stereo music and one or two dialog tracks. We're not doing any fancy digital tricks or trying to look cutting edge with technology -just fades between cuts, running some text on the screen. The audio will be premixed in Pro Tools to Stero music + 1 or 2 spoken word mono tracks
I can save the final projects via the USB port to external hard drives, but for portablility I'd like to be ablle to work on the internal SSD.
Oh, and maybe someday someone will make something I can plug this Thundbolt cable into, lol.

Reboot and restart didn't solve the problem, tried connect to iTunes but it won't let me because it requires the passcode. Tried my Exchanged password, Apple ID password and my iPhone passcode but none work. Any idea to resolve this?

Try and force your iPad into Recovery Mode
1. Disconnect the USB cable from the device, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
2. Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.
3.While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the device. The device should turn on.
4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen. When this screen appears, release the Home button. iTunes should alert you that it has detected a device in recovery mode. Click OK, and then click Restore to restore the device.
Note: Data will be lost.
