My sister's 3GS died after she updated it to 4.3.x

My sister's 3GS died after she updated it to 4.3.x (I'm not sure which-she said it took all night, so a big one). She went on using it, then when the battery got low, she plugged it in (to a charger we all use), waited a couple hours- and the screen never lit again.
Tried the hold-lock-and-home button trick, no red dot of doom (moisture indicator), won't show up on a Mac desktop/iTunes- nada.
Anyone know what the heck happened, or if it's recoverable?
PS- I want to loan her my old 3G- how far can it update it? It's currently at 4.0, but I don't know if she can restore to an older version of the OS.
Thanks in advance!

A restore will work, but one from the same iOS version or to a newer version.  So if the 4.3.3 update took and the backup for the 3GS was done after the update, you will not be able to restore it to the 3G.  You should be able to restore an older backup to the 3G though.
Many have complained though that iOS 4 causes their 3G to run slow.  Since you are already on 4.x, I would say upgrade to the latest version which is 4.2.1 for the security updates.

  • I tried to update my sons iPad and now it won't turn on or off just a picture of a cable and I tunes symbol. Can it be fixed or is it broken I've seen posts saying their iPads died after doing updates.

I tried to update my sons iPad now it won't turn on or off it shows a cable and iTunes symbol tried holding down sleep button & screen button but no luck does this mean it's Broken I've seen posts saying their iPad died after doing updates.

It's not broken, it just means that the iPad has gone into recovery mode : http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1808
You will need to connect the iPad, via its cable, to a computer's iTunes (you will need an up-to-date version of iTunes installed on the computer), and you should then be able to reset the iPad and restore/resync the content to it.

  • My daughter said that after she updated he Ipad to io6, my Icloud info appeared on it. She does not have my password so how could that happen? How do I make sure it gets off there.

My daughter said that after she updated her Ipad to io6, my name and other info appeared on her device. She does not have my login info so how could this happen? Her Mom purchased the device not me. The two devices have never been synced and never shared the same WiFi. How could this happen and how do I get it off?

It could only happen if your iCloud account was set up on her iPad when she updated to iOS 6.  To fix this she needs to delete the account from her iPad and set up her own with a different Apple ID.  (Deleting the account will only remove it from her iPad, not from iCloud.  Your device will not be effected by this.)
If she was syncing data with your account such as contacts and calendars, her data would have been merged with yours and would now appear on both devices.  In that case, she needs to go to Settings>iCloud and turn all data that is syncing with iCloud (contacts, calendars, etc.) to Off.  When prompted choose to keep the data on the iPad.  After everything is turned off, she should scroll to the bottom and tap Delete Account.  Next, she should set up a new iCloud account on her iPad using a different Apple ID and turn iCloud data syncing for contacts, etc. back to On, and when prompted, choose Merge.  This will upload the data to this new account.  You will then have to go to icloud.com on your computer and sign into each iCloud account separately and manually delete the unwanted data (such as deleting her contacts from your account, and vice versa).  These changes will be reflected on each device.  When finished you will have individual iCloud accounts with just your own data on them.
If she wasn't syncing her data with your account, all she needs to do is go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account, then set up her own with a different Apple ID.

  • How do i get my wife phone back to her apple id after she updated, it took mine?

how do i get my wife'sphone back to her apple ID, after she updated it using our wifi it has taken mine?

You can change the ID for purchasing by going to Settings>iTunes & App stores, tap the ID, sign out, sign back in with the her ID.  For iMessage go to Settings>Messages>Send & Receive and do the same thing.  For FaceTime go to Setting>FaceTime and do the same.  For iCloud you will have to go to Settings>iCloud, turn any data she is syncing with iCloud (contacts, etc.) to Off, when prompted choose to keep the data on her phone, when everything is off scroll to the bottom and tap Delete Account, then create a new account with her ID and turn syncing for contacts, etc. back to On, and when prompted choose Merge.

  • Windows 8.1 Blue Screen of Death "Critical process died" after Windows update

Hey there, my Envy laptop has the "Critical Process Died" blue screen of death error after doing 3 things today:
    1. A BIOS update through HP Support Assistant.
    2. An x64 windows process update (optional) through the Control Panel.
    3. An NVIDIA update.
What can I do to fix this error? I'm okay with a complete system wipe. Please help.
    *Windows 8.1 64bit

The only option that worked for me was to "reset" my PC, as in a complete wipe. it's working properly again, when I read reviews of windows 8.1 I didn't really believe the people who said stay away from it, but since I've had more problems than I'd wish to, I'm too afraid to go back to it. Thanks anyways guys.

  • My N80 died after Software Update

Today I used Nokia Software Update to check for new firmware for my N80, version V 3.0617.0.6 03-05-206 RM-92.
I connected the phone via USB and launched the update procedure which detected a new version for the firmware. After I allowed the update procedure the FW was downloaded from the net and the phone update started. Just a minute after the phone died, the USB connection stopped and now the phone is dead, black screen, off. No way to switch it on. Please give me indication about how to solve the problem.

Try taking the battery out - waiting for 30 seconds and then put the battery back in and try switching the phone back on - does that work ? Remember that if the phone does start working, all your data will have been deleted as part of the upgrade process and you should restore the data you previously saved.
If taking the battery out didn't work then you will have to take your phone to a Nokia Service Centre for them to "recover" the phone for you.

  • 6233 "died" after Software updater WHAT TO DO?

    Hi!
I was updating my 6233 and after a while my mobile just went dead. I tried to turn it on, with and w out the sim card. Nothing helped. The sim card is ok, it works in another mobile.
I´ve read that it´s a common problem, so does anyone know what to do? Beside give it to a Nokia support, it will take weeks to get it back. I live in Sweden and they are really slow t fix your mobile, and x-mas is coming so it will take until next year to return my phone.

There is nothing that you can do, nokia support is your only option.

  • MBP died after security update

I had a couple applications crash and was going to reboot, and saw that there was a security update so went ahead with that. After restart, there was no chime. The screen is staying black. Hard drive sounds like it is spinning but not being accessed. Light on latch is glowing but that's about it. Tried removing the battery and restarting, probably out of nostalgia for my Powerbook 520. Multiple power offs/ons produce same result, i.e., nothing. Any suggestions before I head to the Genius Bar?

Do you have the NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT video chip? If so, you could have this problem:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2377
The Genius bar can run a specific test for the NVIDIA problem and if you have it, the repair will be free.
    Good luck!

  • USB ports died after BIOS update on Pavilion dv6

I have a Pavilion dv6-03013cl running Windows 7 64-bit. Bought six months ago, and all was fine until this morning.
The HP support assist software told me to update the BIOS, which I did. And then all the USB ports stopped working. In Device Manager, it shows that all have a yellow triangle w/exclamation point. I've got two USB hubs, and into them are two printers, wireless mouse & keyboard, flash drives, and blue tooth adapter.
I just spent two hours on the phone with tech support in India, and he walked me through several possible fixes. System Restore does not work -- no matter what restore point I try, it hangs, taking hours (he said it should take no more than 10 minutes). Through all of this (and the following) all the USB hubs and devices were unplugged. Each step I would try just the flash drive (which works fine in the laptop on my other desk).
Tried uninstalling all the USB ports from Device Manager; that didn't help.
Tried Recovery Manager, but the USB was not on the list.
Tried rebooting hitting F8 to "last known good configuration", which didn't help.
Tried downloading BIOS from HP site, which didn't work.
Finally he told me the only solution is System Recovery, which will send me back to factory settings; meaning I'd need to reinstall all software and data files. I really do not want to do that.
Any suggestions for me would be much appreciated.

i have the same problem and found this on another site
so this is what we get for trying to be responsible and updating.....

I would like to know what Blackberry is doing about this problem. I  have read  it is caused by the android  file in the file manager. I have tried deleting this file, and its contents, but am unable. The app is part of the OS and cannot be deleted.

  • Iphone died after running update for ios7

I ran the update on my phone for iOS 7 this morning and the phone worked fine all day.  I got a text and went to answer it a few minutes later and the phone doesn't work at all.  Doesn't go on (the battery life was at 100%).  When I call it from my house phone, it doesn't ring and the screen doesn't go on.  I plugged it into the wall hoping that would do something, but that did nothing.  Help!

  • 3GS freezing after recent update?

I haven't had a problem with this before I installed the latest software update, but now my phone freezes for a few minutes every once in awhile (and it seems to be getting more often).
    Any suggestions?

try resetting your iPhone by following this article:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430
If that doesn't work you may need to restore your iPhone and setup the device as new, which is described in this article:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1414
Make sure you read the backing up information in that article as well before restoring to make sure all your info is backed up so you don't lose anything important.
