My site desappeared from IWeb

Hello,
I am new to iWeb. I have created a website and published it at http://web.me.com/ few months ago. Everythig was OK
The problem is that now (maybe after same updates, I don't know) I can not see this site in the "IWeb". It doesn't appear in this application. So, I am not able to change something or delete from my site. But site exists. I can see it only like a guest. What can I do?
Thank you very mach. You can answer in English, Français, Russian.

Go to where your domain file is stored under User/Library/Application Support/iWeb/domain.sites.
Double click on the domain file and your site should open.

    Hi there,
If what you did is publishing to a folder and you're now trying to access those pages it's not gonna work...
The only way to move iWeb pages from one computer to another is to move the Domain.sites2 file where iWeb stores its files. To find that file go to
    User/Library/Application Support/iWeb/Domain.sites2
If you can’t find it here search for it with spotlight. Note that the extension .sites (iWeb 1.0) or .sites2 (iWeb 2.0) may be hidden, also search for Domain only. To see if a Domain file is iWeb ’06 or iWeb ’08 select the file press Command(Apple)+i under "Name & Extension" you will find that it is .sites or .sites2.
To get the site showing up in iWeb just open the Domain.sites file by double clicking on it and your sites and pages will show up on the left side in the iWeb page browser. Note that the location, where you put the file, doesn’t matter.
Note that you have to change permissions of the Domain file to be able to edit, save changes and publish a website from another user account and from another computer as well.
Select Domain file press Command(Apple)+i under Ownership & Permissions go to =>Details =>Others and select Read & Write
You have to do that in the original user account and computer in which the Domain file was created.
If you don’t change permissions you will find an error while publishing and saving.
    Regards,
    Cédric

  • Can't visit site from iWeb

I have a website hosted by iPage.  Previously I have had no problems using iWeb to publish to it.  This week I hit a bunch of glitches which iPage has finally sorted out and I have successfully published changes to my site.  However, now, when I try to visit the site directly from iWeb, it duplicates the name twice in the browser window and so the page is not found.  If I go through google I can get there and the changes are there, so that's cool.  iPage insists this is an iWeb issue and my settings are correct.  Why is iWeb pointing me to a page where the the site name shows up twice in the browser window?  This seems to me to be a simple settings issue somewhere.  I have emptied the cache on Safari.  any ideas?

Provide the URL of the website.
If the url is something like :
    www.domainame.com/sitename/sitename/pagename.html
it means that the first sitename is part of the pathname in the iWeb settings. Not wrong if you want that, but wrong if you don't  want it. iWeb publishes where you tell it to publish.
So go to the server to see what's really there. Then you know from firsthand experience, instead of what iPage tells you.

  • I'd like to edit my site from iWeb on two computers, is this possible?

I'd like to edit my site from iWeb on two computers, is this possible?
I started creating my site on a PB 15", but when I'm home I like the speed of my iMac and I'd like to continue the editing process on my iMac but I can't find the files that iWeb saves.
I'd ideally like to save my site on my 30gig iPod using it as a hard drive between both. I would love for this to happen but I can't find the files saved by iWeb. Is this even possible?
I've even tried linking my PB to my iMac via firewire as a hard drive. No Luck.
    Please Help . . .

I think iWeb only recognizes the 'domain.sites' file so while you can set up more than one site, they are in the same project.
Of course, the workround is to move the domain.sites file out of the default location, which them makes iWeb create a new one. You can then work on any number of projects, only moving the correct file into the default location for work on each one. Not elegant by any means, but until someone suggests a better way (or Apple produce a more flexible version of the software) it works fine that way.

  • I imported my iweb site files from my desktop to my laptop and now they wont open up in iweb

    Hi,
I imported my iweb site files from my desktop to my laptop and now they wont open up in iweb.
I can see the files in the home/sites folder but cant seem to be able to replace them with the site that is already in iweb?
I have just upgraded to lion on the macbook pro and was using 10.4.x on the desktop.
Is there any way to replace the files and work on the web site on the MBP?
And I dont see the library/application support/iweb folder anywhere.
    Much appreciate the feedback.
    Thanks

As I said earlier, iWeb does not open/import webpages.
And yes, you need the domain file. The movie demonstrates how to move them to and from the default location.
And the page explains how to open the hidden library folder in Lion. Which is also discussed in the Lion forum and extensively in this one.

  • Search option missing from iWeb site after MobileMe transition

I'm assuming this is a residual bug from the transition to MobleMe, but I've just noticed that my site published with iWeb is missing the Search box on the home page. Just curious if anyone else has had this, or anyone has found a fix.
Tried republishing the site, but still no joy. Also tried viewing the site via the new MobleMe address as well (as opposed to old .Mac address), and it's missing there too.
    Bueller? Anyone?

Strange, my friend on the latest Firefox could not see the search bar, but when I asked her to load into Safari, the webpage loaded up fine (on a Powerbook). I then tried to load up the page on Safari with my Powerbook, but no dice.
I then booted up into Windows XP and tried viewing my webpage via IE 7, Firefox 3 AND Safari, and the search bar STILL does not show up. The search bar is not limited to Mac OS X and Safari (on a Mac) right?

  • My site is gone from iweb?

hi friends. i have a site published at .mac , for some reason my site isnt showing up anymore when i open iweb, anybody know how i can get this site back to iweb so i can edit it....thanks

    Thomas
    This is my suggestion.
    1. Take your domain.sites file, from User/Library/Application Support/iWeb/ and move it to your desktop.
    2. Go to User/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iWeb.plist <-- Move this file to Trash
    3. Empty your Trash
    4. Reboot your Mac
    5. Open iWeb
    6. Start a new site, add a Welcome page, do nothing to it, quit iWeb, saving the new one page site. What this does is create your domain.sites file and tells iWeb where to look.
    7. Now, with iWeb closed down, delete the new domain.sites file, and copy in your old one, from your desktop.
    8. Re-open iWeb, hopefully you are now looking at your old site. If not post back, we have one more trick, but I need to find it!!

  • Can I manage sites created by iWeb from a browser like I could w/Homepage?

If I remember correctly, one could manage the sites published to Homepage from any browser. Can I still do that with sites published by iWeb?
I publish a lot of photo pages and sometimes I need to make changes to them from work where I use a linux box. I miss that part of Homepage...
    Thank you for any help
    Bo

    RIP Homepage!
I think I will go to pBase for photo publishing from now on. It's the only other option for a clean uncluttered look for photo hosting. I sure will miss the easy workflow between iPhoto and iWeb though...
    Thanks James.

  • Retrieving iweb site content from server?

    Hi y'all.
I was working on my iweb site and everything was going dandy. Then my comp crashed and the only way to get it too work was to re-install the entire system. Unfortunately, I didn't get around to backing up my iweb stuff but I did publish it before the crash so its on the server. Is there anyway possible to get the content back from the server to my comp? kind of like reverse-publishing (if that makes any sense) I'd rather not go back and have to do the site over from scratch if there's a way around it.
    any suggestions would be appreciated...

It does exist on your iDisk because the site is still active and online. Have you setup iDisk syncing to your Mac creating a duplicate locally? If so is that the iDisk that you are looking at or tried to delete from?
While in the Finder select the Go menu and go to the iDisk ➙ My iDisk... option. That will mount your iDisk where you can go to the iDisk/Web/Sites folder and look for your web site folder.

  • Help I deleted my site from iweb

I was working on a new site and deleted my other site from iweb hoping I could find it again, is there any way to recover this site?

Not unless you have a backup of your Users folder.
If you publish to .mac, DON'T publish your new site until you have copied the folders in the Web>Sites>iWeb folder in your iDisk to another location. Publishing your new site will delete your previous site from your iDisk.
Once you have done this, you can move the folder for your first site to the Sites folder in your iDisk, and will be accessible through home page until you can rebuild the site. (If you can/want to do this, feel free to post back for more detailed instructions)

  • Cannot publish from iWeb 08 after upgrading to Leopard

When I click on Publish from iWeb I first get a window .Mac Information asking me to login and a smaller window saying "logging in to iWeb". I click on sign in button from .Mac Information window and then get the System Preferences window telling me I am signed in and giving me my account status. From here nothing happens. The "logging into iWeb" message stays and nothing happens.
    What should I do?

Thanks and Merry Christmas to you too! I have experienced both modem/network problems and was unable to publish in Tahiti and Cook Islands because of that and now these problems which have nothing to do with network it seems - so yours may or may not be network related. I was able to cheat and copied my "Site" folder from my hard drive to my iDisk rather then publishing. I can't remember if you've tried this or not (read a lot of strings today) but you can publish to a folder and then copy that folder to your iDisk at /Web/Sites/iWeb/Site as "Site" after first renaming the one that is out there now. Let me know if you have any questions on how to do it. It sounds like you are traveling like we are and anxious to communicate with friends and family back home. When you are bored, our site is web.mac.com/baganworldtour.
At least we now have our first update out there in two weeks. But it took almost two hours to copy the folder and this won't work forever. Hopefully we, whether by the discussion room or .mac support next week, will be able to fix the problem for real.
    Thanks. Good Luck. Merry Christmas

  • Error Publishing from iweb 09 - Server or iweb problems??

I upgraded from iweb 08 (I had no issues) to iweb 09, and I have publishing errors more than half the time. Are the mobileme servers having problems, or is there a hack in the iweb software?
This is a big problem because I have 20 Gb of pages with video that I need to re-publish. It is bad enough that I will be tying my network up for 2 weeks, but that I often don't make progress.
The message is "Error connecting to mobileme, check network.. .." The problem is that it uploads for an hour or so before it stops.. I am double checking to see if my routing is causing the problem, but I don't think so..
Is Apple working on this? Are there numerous people who are now stuck re-publishing their sites and the servers are getting beat up? Does anyone know how to diagnose this type of problem?

Finally i solved the issue of Publishing Error in iWeb 09 with MobileMe.
Procedure which i followed and might also help you guys.
Lets say your default site name is XYZ then create a new site e.g. ABC.
Thereafter dragged all pages from default site XYZ to new site ABC ONE BY ONE.
*In the preference folder delete any PLIST files related to iWeb (i had two files in my folder).*
*Once you drag all pages from your default site to new site there after just make a new blank page and publish the site.*
Then start dragging first one page from new site ABC and publish one page. There after repeat all pages one by one and publish after every page you drag from new site ABC to default site XYZ.
Once you finish then take a backup in time machine of the domain.
There after start your blog page then publish again then start photos album page, publish again then your movie page, publish again etc because these are the pages which were mostly creating errors.
After you complete the final page and publish remove the blank page and publish again.
I spent 3 days with the same problem and finally i could finish by this method in few hours.

  • Managing multiple sites in different iWeb versions - PLEASE HELP!

apnewbie/cyclosaurus/roddy/old toad (and any others more knowledgeable than i):
i've run into a bit of a pickle. i am hoping someone can help straighten me out. i am about to jump out of a window. here's the rundown:
(for starters, i have a .mac account and am publishing to .mac.) i created a site in iWeb 1.1.2 on my work computer (mac book pro). worked great, really lovely. thought to myself, "hey, i'd like to create another site from home, but i don't have iWeb at home (powerbook G4) - i should buy iLife 08 so i can build these things from home and not have personal files on my work computer."
so: i had a site that i created within 1.1.2 with files written to iDisk. i purchased iWeb 08 and would like to have another site, but this one is being created in 2.0. i also am using a personal domain name this time around bought with google apps and hosted by godaddy. i published the new work in progress for a test run and...you guessed it...my original 1.1.2 site was rewritten by the 2.0 site. and the 2.0 site comes up as the standard google search page for domains that aren't up and running. whooopsie.
sorry for the lengthy intro, but that's the background. i guess my specific questions are:
    1) i want to be able to maintain multiple sites from iWeb 2.0...can i open my 1.1.2 domain file in 2.0 and successfully bring that site into 2.0?
    2) what is the most efficient and easiest way to get both of these sites running in 2.0? right now i have two domain files (created on two different computers).
    3) for domain management, is it best to move from the iWeb folder in my home library to different folders (one for each site, with separate domain files, and my 2.0 domain file is NOT called domain, it's the name of the site) to another location? (and of course, i will back these up just in case.) and when i want to update a site, i just open that individual domain file, right? or will these sites publish over each other?
please help. i am at my wits end. i'm sure this is a relatviely simple issue, but i'm new to iWeb.
thanks, thanks, thanks for your help guys.
    joojy

    joojy,
    Welcome to the forums!
First of all, your original 1.1.2 site may not, in fact, have been overwritten. It is quite possible that the site remains in it's position on the iDisk, Web/Sites/iWeb/YourSite, but because you published to the iDisk (.Mac) from 2.0, a different index.html file has been placed in the root level Web directory which is causing the 404 error. Navigate to the directory on the iDisk, using the Go menu in Finder, and look to see what is actually there. Follow this path:
    Go/iDisk/My iDisk/Web/Sites/iWeb/YourSiteWillBeHereIfYourLuckIsGood
If your site is there, great; if it isn't, it's not really a problem because hopefully you still have the Domain.sites file on the MacBook Pro and you can republish it if necessary. If it is there, you can modify the index.html file on the iDisk using a text editor and get your url redirected back to where it should be.
Second, do not open your 1.1.2 Domain.sites file with 2.0 until you have a backup of this Domain file. External drives are best for this. Assuming the backup is in place, launch 2.0, choose the Domain.sites file, and click on "update". It will be updated to a Domain.sites2 file. If the site looks ok then continue on with editing/publishing.
Skipping to question (3), by all means, abandon the default location of the Domain.sites file in the Home folder's Library and get accustomed to keeping your Domain files in their own, respective folders. When you want to open one just double-click it.
You are going to encounter difficulties publishing multiple sites in 2.0.2, unless you keep all of the sites in a single Domain file. 2.0 is publishing to a different directory on the iDisk than 1.0; it publishes to /Web/Sites/, as opposed to /Web/Sites/iWeb/. Publishing a site from a separate Domain file erases previously published sites. I have been able to publish multiple sites, from multiple Domain.sites2 files, by mounting the iDisk and actually moving the Site folder back one level, into the root Web folder, and then publishing. When finished, I move it back again. If you have RSS feeds you will probably get a 'file in use' error. The alternative, (other than keeping all sites in a single Domain), is to publish the site to a folder and then manually drop the Site folder into the Web/Sites/ directory on the iDisk. Of course, some .Mac functions are lost when publishing this way.
Work through this info and post back.
