My slideshow quit working on iphoto

My slideshow suddenlly quit working in iphoto. The screen goes black for a second like it is going to work then it just returns to photos.
Anyone else with this problem?

You also may want to post this in the iPhoto forum if no one here has any ideas.

  • The music in slideshow quit working

We ran about three slidesshows with music and now it won't play the music with the slideshow

I have found that you need to convert your audio file to an .mp3 file and then it works perfectly.  You must do this from iTunes, as follows:
Select the song file you want to convert --
    Select Edit
    Preferences
Under the "General" tab, click on Import Settings
                   Select "import using mp3 Encoder
check the "use error correct . . "
Then you will have to import the song into Elements 11 and add it to the slideshow.

  • Email from within iPhoto '08 (7.1.1) quit working

I am running Leopard (10.5.1) and iPhoto '08 (7.1.1) on a 2.4ghz 17" MBP. Whenever I try to email a photo from within iPhoto it pops up a window to let me choose size & options, I hit the Compose button, it will then popup a window saying that it is Preparing photos for email... then that window just goes away and it never creates the new email. I see this same behavior regardless of whether or not Mail is already open and regardless of what photo I am trying to email. This was working fine in the past... believe that it quit working after the upgrade to 10.5.1 (but not absolutely positive of that)... Any troubleshooting ideas would be greatly appreciated as I use this feature quite often.
    Cheers!

    Kirk:
Try deleting the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder. Next, if needed, download and run BatChmod on the iPhoto Library folder with the settings shown here, putting your administrator login name, long or short, in the owner and group sections. You can either type in the path to the folder or just drag the folder into that field.

TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Since my last software update, my iphoto 11 will not import any photos from any source. The circle just spins...when I go to force quit, it says iphoto not responding. Backed up iphoto library, uninstalled and reinstalled iphoto. Still not working. Help!

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

  • Using iPhoto Slideshow for Work Presentation

    Hello.
I have created a slideshow I'd like to use for presentations for our non-profit organization. Can I save the slideshow (AND the accompanying music) to a CD/DVD and then play it on any TV? Will it have the same look (fades, etc) and the music playing in the background?
    THANKS!!
    ~linda

    Linda:
Yes you can but you'll have to share it into iDVD and then burn a DVD capable of playing on any DVD player to a TV.
I suggest you create an iDVD project first, select the theme, etc. Then in iPhoto use the Share->Send to iDVD menu option. Once the movie is in iDVD you can finish off the details of the project and do a Save As Disk Image. This will create a disk image of the project that you can open and play with DVD Player to check on the quality before you commit to disk. Once you're satisfied with it you can burn that disk image to disk with Disk Utility.
Note: As a movie it will be difficult to move backward to view a previous slide. It's like running the movie backward to get where you want. If you're not using the Ken Burns effect you can create the same slideshow directly in iDVD, complete with transitions, titles and subtitles if desired and music. With this system you can move forward and backward slide by slide if needed just by using the forward and backward arrow buttons of the DVD player remote. IMO this type of slideshow gives sharper image quality than a movie type. But that's just a personal opinion.

I was working with iPhoto downloading pictures and it quit unexpectedly and i lost a bunch of pictures what do i do can they be recovered some where on my computer?? Please can someone help it took me 12 hours just today not counting yesterday between scanning & transferring with a flash drive then dating old family slides in my iphoto. I lost alot

I was working with iPhoto downloading pictures
Do you mean importing photos? If so what were you importing from? If it is a flash drive why not just re-import from it? Where did you scan them?
As to backups - you really need to always have your backup running - without good backups you will lose all photos sooner or later

  • Background music option in slideshow has ceased to work in iPhoto

I have followed the instructions in the "Setting slideshow options" page to the letter and am unable to hear or prelisten to background music for a slideshow from within iPhoto. I have no problem seeing my iTunes library from within iPhoto and the music I am selecting is not protected. This functionality used to work in iPhoto and I can listen to music directly in iTunes (not a hardware issue). The symptoms are that the slideshow starts as if no background music has been selected (it has of course). I have updated to iPhoto 6.0.5, I'm running iTunes 7.0.2 and I have all OS (10.4.8) and firmware updates on this MacBook Pro. I am starting to think that this functionality stopped working as a result of updating Mac software but I'm ready for something more obvious. Anyone had the same problem? Can anyone please help?

    Jed:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Did you repair disk permissions after each of the updater were run? It's important that it be done after any software installation or update. I'd give it another go and see if that helps. Also Terence's question regarding Quicktime is important.

  • IPhoto quit working properly

I have iPhoto 5.0.4. Latley when I open iPhoto library the photos are displayed. When I go to scroll to open the photos I see that there empty spaces where photo are. When I try to scroll down further get that stupid spining ball then iPhoto quits responding and I have to force quit.
Can't work with iPhoto all now.

    Hi Penhale,
Create a new library and see if iPhoto can import all the images not showing up in your library.
    Close iPhoto
Rename your messed up iPhoto Library to "iPhoto Library_old"
Drag this library to your desktop
Hold down the Option key and launch iPhoto
This is the window you will get
Create a new library or choose a library to open
Choose to create a new library
Once this new empty library is open it is time to import the images from your old library
    Go to File>add to library
Navigate to the old library on your desktop and choose it.
iPhoto will start importing the images from your old library
    This is what to expect:
Your images will be imported in nice dated rolls. (make sure your view is set to sort by rolls to see it) There are a couple of caveats to this. You will get rolls named "Originals" These rolls will contain your video clips and your original images that you had edited. If you had RAW files they would be in those rolls too (I don't do RAW, so I don't know for sure) Delete what you don't want from those rolls. You will also get the jpeg pointer files to your video clips imported. They will just be jpegs and will not point to the video clips anymore as iPhoto made new ones when the clips were imported again. You can delete those. they should be in a roll right next to the newly imported video clips so they are not hard to find. The thumbnail files don't get imported as iPhoto makes new ones when the images are imported.
Once all you images have been imported, check through the library and make sure everything looks ok.
You can now start making your Albums, and do your keywords or any other organizational steps.
You can also delete the old library on the desktop.
It is also a good time to backup this new library to CD/DVD by burning the iPhoto LIbrary folder in the Finder, or copying the iPhoto Library folder to an external drive formatted for Macs, or copying the iPhoto LIbrary folder to an iPod.
    Good luck!

  • IPhoto quit working

I have an oler iBook G4. My IPhoto, iMovie and iDVD, quit working.  When i open iPhoto it just stalled out and said my library was empty. I backed up all my movies and photos. I ran a verify disk function and nothing is wrong with my disk. I deleted these programs and tried to reinstall them but it will not install, it stops and said it can't be installed and doesn't say why. I know my computer is full of movies and such maybe I need to delete them all since they are backed up to get more space. Please help!

OS X needs about 10 gigs of hard drive space for normal OS operations - things like virtual memory, temporary files and so on. Without this space your Mac will slow down as the OS hunts for space on the disk, files will be fragmented, also slowing things down, apps will crash and the risk of data corruption - that is damage to your files, photos, music - increases exponentially. Your first priority is to make more space on that HD. Nothing else can be done until you do. Purchase an external HD and move your Photos and Music to it. Both iPhoto and iTunes can run perfectly well with the Library on an external disk.

  • Why does my screen turn black when I play iTunes while working on iPhoto?

Why does my screen turn black when I play ITunes while working on iPhoto? I can't click off of the screen but get a message that reads Shut down computer by pressing button in back then turn computer back on by pushing button in back. That's followed by Chinese letters (which I cannot read). I have had other problems when playing iTunes (actually, a radio station on the Internet) while working on  iPhoto. Before, I got a window that would pop up and tell me I had no disk space available, that I would have to quit applications that were open. Not many were open.
It would be nice if I could solve this problem once and for all.
Thanks in advance for all the suggestions. I truly appreciate your help.

    That was easy. Thanks. Jan

  • Picassa iPhoto uploader doesn't work in iPhoto 08 anymore

    Hi
I post some of my photos on Picassa. With iPhoto 07, no prb: I downloaded the Picassa iPhoto uploader, and from iPhoto, I used to be able to export my albums easily. But I upgraded to iPhoto 08 few days ago, and just realized there's a bug, and the Picassa uploader doesn't work anymore: after formatting the pictures, the process freezes during the 'Create Album' step, my mac fan starts to run crazy, and I have to cancel the operation. I deleted and reinstalled the uploader, same thing. I can still use the uploader to load picture in Picassa from Finder directly, but I think it was easier and sleeker to do it from iPhoto. I'm disappointed to find such a bug. Has anyone else met that problem with Picassa, or with any other uploader? Is there a solution?
    Thanks
    Laurent

You'll have to wait until Picasa and the other plugin developers update their plugins to be compatible with iPhoto 7. The ball's in their court.
    Do you Twango?
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Why Can't I  get the slideshow to work in iWeb?

I recently created and purchased a photo book successfully. I made a pdf of the book and saved it to iPhoto. I can't get the slideshow to work. Keeps telling me to drag photos somewhere, but they are already posted. If I click I can get to the spot where you can move to the next one—but no slideshow!
I have watched the slideshow(2x's) that is listed in this topic. I thought I was doing as it said—but no luck.
    Anyone with ideas??

    Patti:
Read Steps 1-5 of Tutorial #6a at Old Toad's Tutorials for a way to get a book's pages into iPhoto as jpg files which can then be used to create an iWeb slideshow like I've done here.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There's now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • Slideshow Labeling Options in iPhoto vs. iDVD?

    Hi all,
Are there any enhancements to putting onscreen labels for slideshows (i.e., visible during playback)? All I've been able to find is the ability to "show title" in iPhoto (no font choice, extreme corner of screen) and a bottom-of-screen option in iDVD, which is marginally better, but the panning/zooming and other capabilities of iPhoto don't appear to exist when building a slideshow in iDVD. Any options/upgrades/enhancements out there to improve my slideshow labels? Am I missing something?
    Thanks!!

    KimsDad:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. iDVD can give you what you want except for the Ken Burns effect. It offers only one transition per slideshow also. It will let you put titles and sub-titles on selected slides and assure that the entire slide will be in the TV Safe area. IMO, the image quality is better by building the slideshow in iDVD over that from iPhoto or iMovie.
With a 3rd party editor like Photoshop Elements 4 you can add any text of any size and font in any location to the photos and then use iPhoto's slideshow option. You can set up iPhoto to use the 3rd party editor as part of iPhoto and make it nearly seamless. There is a caveat to this and that is you have to make sure the new file is saved as a jpg and not as a Photoshop Elements file. Other than that there little you can't do with it. Here's an example of some of it's advance editing capabilities.

  • Videos not working in iPhoto

Installed Snow Leopard last week and since then I cannot get my video files to play through iPhoto (I have the 08 version).  I installed Quick Time 7 as suggested in a discussion elsewhere, but it didn't do the trick.  I can get the videos to play through QT if I open the files through Finder, just not working w/ iPhoto.
Any help would be much appreciated!

    Try this:
Launch the Terminal and at the prompt paste
    sudo /usr/libexec/xpchelper --rebuild-cache
It will ask for your password. Type it in (but remember it won't show it to you) and hot return.
Quit the Terminal and restart iPhoto.

  • Slideshow project shared from iPhoto causes iDVD to crash

I've searched the forum and found a few threads that sounded like they pertained to this issue, but I didn't see much discussion beyond the question or any answers that had confirmations that they solved the problem.
I've created a slideshow project in iPhoto '08 (version 7.1.5), and I used the "Send to iDVD" option from the "Share" menu to send it to iDVD '08 (version 7.0.4). The export appears to work, a menu button appears in iDVD, and I'm able to work in iDVD to make changes to the theme, menu text, etc. However, if I try to actually view the slideshow movie in iDVD (either by double clicking on the menu button in the iDVD interface, or by using the "Preview DVD playback" button and then choosing the movie from the DVD menu), iDVD crashes. This is happening consistently. I've gone to my Movies folder and found the exported movie file that iPhoto created. This plays back in QuickTime Player just fine. If I add the movie to my iDVD project manually (as opposed to using the "Send to iDVD" option in iPhoto), it still causes iDVD to crash if I try to preview it.
Out of curiosity I brought a non-iPhoto generated QuickTime movie into iDVD, and it played back with no problem. I checked the compression format. The movie that worked was an Apple Motion JPG A movie file. I tried another non-iPhoto generated QuickTime movie file. This time iDVD crashed again. I noticed that this second non-iPhoto generated movie file said it was using the "Apple MPEG4 Decompressor" which is the same format as the movie file that iPhoto did create. I then tried an Uncompressed 8-bit 4:2:2 QuickTime movie file and that worked just fine. Is that the problem? Apple MPEG-4 Decompressor movie files cause iDVD to crash? Could that really be possible when this is the format that iPhoto uses when exporting? Is there a solution? I don't see a way to select a different compression format when exporting/sharing a slideshow from iPhoto.
I discovered this problem while teaching a class to 12 students who don't know much about doing creative projects on a Mac. There are going to be 12 folks who don't think very much of Apple's computers and/or its software if I don't get this problem solved quickly (last day of class is tomorrow). Everything has been going along swimmingly up until this final step of getting the slideshow into iDVD and then burning it to take home. I'm stunned that this isn't working since I've never run into this problem before, but it's happening consistently with every workstation I've tried here in this lab. All computers are running iLife '08. We're all trying to do the same thing. Slideshow project created in iPhoto, trying to send it to iDVD for burning. I been doing stuff with iPhoto and iDVD for years without problems, so I didn't think I needed to run through an entire process here in this lab before teaching the class. I just expected everything to work like it always does. D'oh!
    Help!

    UPDATE:
In case you're interested.... Just because iDVD crashes when I try to preview my slideshow movie from iPhoto doesn't mean I can't successfully burn my DVD project to disc. I was skeptical, but it works. The burn process went off without a hitch, and the DVD plays back using Mac OS X's built-in DVD Player.
Another workaround is to use the "OneStep DVD from Movie..." option in the iDVD file menu and avoid working inside of iDVD.
Someone suggested that perhaps my trouble was connected to using a legacy theme as opposed to one of the newest 7.0 themes. Any truth to that?
Just because I can burn a DVD successfully doesn't mean I wouldn't still like to fix the crash problem if possible. I'm grateful that I now know that I can work around the crashing problem, but I do think it's something that should be fixed and not just avoided.
