My smart cover has damaged my ipad

My smart cover damaged my iPad 2 where the magnets attach to the iPad it caused damage to the rear of the iPad and appears to have rubbed through the rear of the iPad. Will apple replace my iPad and case? It looks terrible and I'm afraid the problem will get worse

I think the post implied what I've noticed with my iPad + smart cover as well: https://discussions.apple.com/message/17544537#17544537

  • Smart cover will damage the ipad mini

Just a heads up. The smart cover for the ipad mini has magnets in the spine of the cover that attaches it to the mini and will wear through the material with normal use and will dig into the ipad mini leaving large deep gouges in it. Apple Care considers this damage as "accidental damage", like dropping it, and will charge you to replace it. So If you have a smart cover for your ipad mini, I suggest you stop using it before it damages the device. I've been using it for 6 months which isn't very long, and you don't really expect that a case you bought from apple to protect your device will damage your device just by using it, until you remove the case and see that the damage has already been done.

I use a different "smart cover" than you, but try this: Go to Settings/General/Lock-Unlock. Make sure the feature is enabled by toggling it green. If you've already enabled, toggle the feature off, then on (green).

  • Smart Cover doesn't put iPad into Sleep mode in Unlock position after iOS 8.3 update

Prior to the iOS 8.3 update, closing my Smart Cover would put my iPad into Sleep mode when in the Unlock position.  Since the update, this function no longer works in the Unlock position.  In the Lock position, I hear the click and the iPad does go into Sleep mode.  Since I am the only one using my iPad, I don't need it locked when at home.  Has anyone else experienced this problem?

    hi guys. i'm back.
i solved my problem. i refer my iphone 5 to a local distributor. a repairman checked my iphone and i described my problem. he checked my battery. it was fine! then after an hour excavation around hardware solution he told me that the charging kit crashed because of heavy mobility usage!
yes. i did not covered my phone with any cover. the cpu pressure by ios update crashed the kit! now my phone get back after the kit changed and work finally. i restored my phone to ios 8.2 now.
i'm going to buy new iphone. but i'm really confused if such this issue really happened for iphone 6 too!!!!!
    i'm totally disappointed .

  • When the smart cover turns of the iPad does it turn off the wifi turn off too?

Am I running down the battery if I don't turn off wifi before I close the smart cover?

    Jfd-
Closing the smart cover only puts the iPad to sleep.  As far as I know, it puts WiFi to sleep as well.
There are some Apps such as the Music App, that may continue to play after the iPad goes to sleep.  If you really want to turn off the iPad, hold down the Sleep button for a few seconds until the "Slide to power off" arrow appears.  When the iPad is turned off this way, you turn it back on by holding the Sleep button until the Apple logo appears.

does the current ipad 2 smart cover fit the new ipad (third generation)?

The Apple Store says it will.
    Regards.

  • Smart cover leaving marks in iPad screen

I have the new iPad and purchased a leather smart cover which I am disappointed with due to the fact that rather than he microfiber cloth side of the cover cleaning the screen it actually marks the screen exactly where it folds.
I am not the only person I know who experiences this and would like to know if anyone has had any response from apple regarding this or knows of a solution to this problem.
    Many thanks

I see the horizontal lines at the fold places of my leather smart cover too. I think though that the cover is just rearranging the dirt on the screen. I periodically clean my screen and the inside of the cover and this markedly decreases the problem. Other than that I ignore it.

  • TS2634 Smart Cover has stopped locking the screen

When I open my cover the usual lock screen is no longer there. I have a apple brand Smart Cover, I have the option turned on in the settings. I hear the audible click when I close the cover, and the screen does go black. Started about a four days ago, I haven't noticed any excess battery drain as a result. Tried to contact apple about the problem but you may have noticed not the easiest company to contact support wise.

Just the home screen it is not much of an issue but it is a feature that should be working.
You should see the lock screen when you unlock the iPad by opening the Smart Cover.
Try rebooting your iPad and see if it works OK after that.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.
Something else that might help is to reset all Settings. Settings>General>Reset>Reset all Settings. You will of course have to re enter all of the device settings again including restoring the iPad screen cover lock in the settings.

  • The smartcover has damaged my iPad, is Apple liable for this?

The apple smartcover I purchased with my iPad has over the past few months been creating a dent where the magnet goes. It looks like someone has drilled into it slightly. The aluminium that has been taken off the iPad has been penetrated into the smartcover.
As one or both things are not working properly, is apple liable to fix this or give me a new iPad and smartcover?

for some reason it wouldnt let me upload straight to here, but heres what it looks like.

  • Does the new smart cover work with old iPad?

    Hello,
    as the subject
Does it work? because I'm very interested about it!

As much as I am also disappointed with this, I just had to remind myself that the original Apple iPad cover gives you the same features of standing it up and typing angle... Again, I wish it did too but I know I'm not missing out on functionality with my old iPad case...

  • I have an iPad air with Smart Cover. The Smart Cover switches off the ipad, but when it is lifted, the lock screen appears rather than just starting again

SSmart cover on iPad air not working as it should

Depending on your Settings this is normal behavior. Check the Settings app as JimHdk suggested.

  • My smart cover dented the side if my iPad. Will apple replace?

Just bought the new iPad a couple weeks ago. The same day I bought a smart cover. I just noticed it has dented the side of my iPad. I'm ******. Will apple do anything about this? Has anyone else had this problem?

I carry it in my briefcase to and from work. Only thing I can think of is somehow it got pushed into the side because there is a noticeable dent where it connects.
hmm... sounds like the side of the ipad where the smart cover connects were struck by something and that force carried through enough to cause the strip where the smart cover connects to your ipad to push into your ipad and dent it.
I doubt this is covered because this is similar to saying: the smart cracked my ipad screen because something struck the smart cover while it was covering the screen and the force was enough to carry through and crack the screen.
Guess what I'm trying to say it, even though it was the smart cover that was in contact with your ipad when it got dented, the cause is still some external force...
But give it a shot and see if it's covered! :-)

  • Apple iPad 2 Smart Cover For iPad 1

    Helo folks
Since no difference between first and sec gen. Of pad's screen , length and width sizes, i want to get a ipad 2 smart cover for my original ipad 1 , possible ? .. It should
    ?

The display size and resolution are the same, the iPads themselves are not exactly the same dimension. Also, the new iPad has magnets inside of it help the smart cover attach itself to the new model.
You would be wasting your money, the Smart Cover is for the iPad 2 only.

  • Why does closing Smart Cover no longer turn off iPad?

I have had my iPad 2 and its Smart Cover for about a week. At first, closing the Smart Cover turned off the iPad, as it should. Yesterday this feature disappeared -- I close the Smart Cover and the iPad stays on. I have looked for settings that might turn this behavior on and off, but cannot find one. Am I overlooking the setting, or is my Smart Cover a lemon?

Thanks! That does work. At first I thought it didn't, because I didn't hear the little click that indicates that the iPad has turned off. But then I realized that I also had to change the setting Use Side Switch To to Mute and then change its position. I did that and the little click came back.
I had thought locking was different from turning off. I thought that if you locked the iPad 2, then you needed to enter a password to unlock it. That's why I didn't think that iPad Cover Lock/Unlock was the setting I needed to change.
