My sound is coming from my built in speakers instead of through the headphone jack.

I have an Envy 15 1270ca and last night it froze while I was listening to music, forcing me to manually shut it off by holding down the power button. When the computer came back on, my sound was coming out of my built-in speakers instead of my external speakers through the headphone jack. I checked the speakers through my mp3 player, so I know that they are working, so it seems to be the jack which is not working.
Any help is appreciated!

  • No sound is coming from my built in speakers

cant hear sounds out of my speakers! only sound i hear is when i have another display connected but the sound comes out of the other display not the laptop

Go to "System Preferences". Under hardware click "Sound". Then go to "Output" tab. Under "Select a device for sound output" make sure that "Internal Speakers" are selected.

  • My ipod video wont play sound through the headphone jack or the bottom connector

Hello everyone. I have an iPod Video 60GB (supports video output through the headphone jack). Which I believe was the last one before the iPod "classic".
Anyways awhile back it stopped outputting sound through the headphone jack, I assumed I had damaged the jack itself as commonly happens but it stopped outputting sound through the dock connector to my ipod speaker dock and my cars ipod connector. The clicker wont make any noise either.
When I tried to search for an answer to this problem years ago I couldnt find anything and knowing it would be out of warrenty I put it aside and forgot about it. Having searched again recently it seems as if this could be the audio processor or some component on the board coming loose? Has anyone outlined this problem with pictures and steps to repair it?
I *may* take it in and pay the $30 but I would much prefer to fix it myself. Thank you for any help with this.

Update: The model # is MA147LL. Not sure why my edit didnt take effect.

  • I have a new sound bar that I plug my phone into through the headphone jack. I also have a bluetooth speaker that I want to play through as well. Is there anyway I can play to both devices at once?

I have a speaker that I am connecting through my headphone jack but I have a bluetooth speaker in another room that I want to play through as well. Is there anyway I can play to both speakers at once? I saw another post on line that suggested going to the Audio MIDI setup and adding additional output devices. The problem is, I see that on my computer but nothing for my iphone. Can this work? I have also seen things for airplay and of course this is all making my mind fuzzy. Help!

Sure-glad to help you. You will not lose any data by changing synching to MacBook Pro from imac. You have set up Time Machine, right? that's how you'd do your backup, so I was told, and how I do my backup on my mac.  You should be able to set a password for it. Save it.  Your stuff should be saved there. So if you want to make your MacBook Pro your primary computer,  I suppose,  back up your stuff with Time machine, turn off Time machine on the iMac, turn it on on the new MacBook Pro, select the hard drive in your Time Capsule, enter your password, and do a backup from there. It might work, and it might take a while, but it should go. As for clogging the hard drive, I can't say. Depends how much stuff you have, and the hard drive's capacity.  As for moving syncing from your iMac to your macbook pro, should be the same. Your phone uses iTunes to sync and so that data should be in the cloud. You can move your iTunes Library to your new Macbook pro
you should be able to sync your phone on your new MacBook Pro. Don't know if you can move the older backups yet-maybe try someone else, anyways,
This handy article from Apple explains how
How to move your iTunes library to a new computer - Apple Support''
don't forget to de-authorize your iMac if you don't want to play purchased stuff there
and re-authorize your new macBook Pro
time machine is an application, and should be found in the Applications folder. it is built in to OS X, so there is nothing else to buy. double click on it, get it going, choose the Hard drive in your Time capsule/Airport as your backup Time Machine  and go for it.  You should see a circle with an arrow on the top right hand of your screen (the Desktop), next to the bluetooth icon, and just after the wifi and eject key (looks sorta like a clock face). This will do automatic backups  of your stuff.

  • My MacBook Pro internal speakers sound like they are playing through the headphone jack, why is this? How can I fix it?

Periodically, the sound from my MacBook Pro speakers cuts out to where it sounds as if I am just blasting music through a pair of headphones.  The start up sounds and even some normal sounds coming from my computer are at the regular balanced speaker level.  I sometimes use external speakers and have not had this problem with them.  This has been happening more and more lately, and for longer periods of time. I'm running 10.7.5

What frame rate/frame size/codec did you record?
How did you transfer it into FCX?

  • Is there any way to keep the music playing through the headphones connected through the headphone jack, while also playing the music through a bluetooth device, such as speakers - so the audio is coming out of both devices simultaneously?

When I connect my bluetooth speakers, the sound stops coming out of the headphones (connected via the hardwire jack), and then comes back when I turn off the bluetooth speakers. I would like to have audio coming out of both...
    Anyone?

Thanks Kiwi. It doesn't make sense to me though, as that would seem to be only a simple change in the operating system, not a hardware 'necessity'.

  • From what I've read the new Macbook Pros do not recognize a line-in through the headphone jack. I want to record my guitar on GarageBand without using the built in mic. Any advice?

I have all the adapters and stuff like that, I have recorded a lot of things on audacity on my p.c. For $2500 you would think they would have at least kept the input through the headphone jack feature in this mac. I am using an acoustic and an eletric guitar and I don't want to spend more than about $20 to resolve this.

I had a fast tracks usb and it worked great and at $99 it is well worth it. But if you plan on recording vocal and guitar you will need a XLR plug on your mic because it only has two inputs 1/4 and XLR.
Also you don't need a multichannel interface to record multiple tracks, only multiple tracks at the same time.
If your doing all the instruments yourself the fast track or fast track pro may be a good idea for now and then when you need it upgrade to a more expensive firewire interface.
And make sure whatever you get will work with your intel mac.
I just read some of the negative comments about the fast track usb. I don't think some of these people know what there doing. Comments like it only records on the left channel shows user error.

  • Very feeble sound through MBP headphone jack

I've had my MBP travel with me outdoors for the past few weeks, and I recently discovered that the sound output through the headphone jack is very feeble- even at full volume. This was working all OK a few days back even during my travel. I've checked everything under System Preferences > Sound, read through numerous Internet articles but nothing or no one seems to be able to provide a clear solution to this. Not really sure if the jack has dirt lodged in it that may cause this (as some articles suggested)- I used a flashlight to look into the port and seems all clean.
Please help. Any pointers would be appreciated.

Teat with another earphone set.  Youe earphones may be the problem.
    Do a PRAM reset:

  • Sound not coming from imac

I am facing a very strange problem with my Imac. When i am pressing the volume keys on keyboard it is showing muted sign on the screen. No sound is coming from the speakers. Sometimes the muted sign automatically goes and also suddenly display on the screen. But when i am connecting a external headphone sound is coming. So is this a speaker problem or keyboard or any other hardware problem. What is the solution ?

Your audio settings may have been changed.
Open Audio MIDI Setup (/Applications/Utilities/), then check the Audio Output setting.
Change the Audio Output setting to 44100.0 Hz.
    Quit Audio MIDI Setup.

  • Sound is coming from the ear-piece and its really really low

    Title pretty much says it.
My iPhone is acting really weird ever since this morning, sound isnt coming from the bottom speakers anymore but instead from the ear-piece and its really low.
I tried resetting the phone with holding down the home and sleep button at the same time but its still the same.
    Anyone else having this problem?

Connect the headset to a computer or stereo or anything else with 3,5mm minijcack to see if the headset is ok of they work there then your headset is defect if not your phone is the problem

  • No sound is coming from speakers

there is sound when I plug in headphones. this problem started after I updated to ios 6.1.6.
I tried cleaning the headphone jack and reseting the phone.

that's a good thing then that it only show s headphone when the headset is plugged in. then follow these steps reset all settings, settings, general, reset option at the bottom of general, reset all settings, And no you will not lose your information, if issue persist backup and restore your device as new and if that doesn't work, time for a replacement. If you are uncomfortable following these steps you might want to contact Apple 1-800-MY-APPl or setup appointment at the Apple store but do a backup before you head out to the store because they more then likely to restore your device which will Erase all your contents and settings.

  • No sound from internal speakers, red glowing light in headphone jack

Okay. Have seen a few posts on this topic, but scattered symptoms, resolutions and ideas. Here is my timeline and plan:
My speakers went out spontaneously running 10.4.5 when I switched to battery power. We had a blackout here in L.A. and I was trying to play a DVD for the kids- no internal speaker sound.
    * There is a red light glowing from the headphone jack. Never noticed this before, it seems to be a sign associated with the problem.
    * External speakers/headphones work fine.
    * Absolutely no sound from any app, alert or startup unless something (speakers/headphones)external is plugged in.
    * if nothing is plugged in, the slider volume control in the menu bar is greyed out at full volume. Sound pref panel only shows "digital out" as choice, but is greyed out. "Built-in speakers" is absent as a choice.
    What I've tried:
Select/deselect "look for spekaers" option in iTunes.
    Update to 10.4.7
Update all listed apps to latest in Software update (iTunes, QT, etc.)
    Trash sound prefs
    Zap PRAM
    Clean install from OEM DVD
Restore System from previous backup (although last backup may have been corrupt because I may not have noticed the problem for a while.)
    That's about it.
My plan: Take PB to genius bar today and see what they say.
I'll report back what they say.

I have had the same syptoms as the above people in my PowerBook and was hating life without sound. i got to thinking about what earlier people had posted and concluded it could not be a software problem, that it had to be a hardware problem. I thought, maybe the headphone jack was just dirty, you know, plugging headphones/speakers in and out of the computer many times, it could have just gotten dirty. If I just clean it with rubbing alcohol, maybe that will do the trick. It did! I have been going two days and am doing great!
    THE BOTTOMLINE!
Clean the headphone jack out! I used a q-tip and rubbing alcohol. (I have found that making my own q-tip with a toothpick and a small amount of cotton works better because it is thinner than the stick for a q-tip. Just twist the cotton to the edge of the toothpick.)
For all you people out there who try this and it works for you post for other people so they can be more confident that it does work.

  • How can I remove the background sound from the headphone jack for my MacBoo

for my MacBook Air problem adding music intensifier (Panasonic ST-HT1000) to give it an unpleasant sound background that sounds like a whiz, it's not so loud, but it is an unpleasant .. after a short time can get used to, but the fizz does not pass, however, believe that it is a big problem.
Further I notice that when MacBookAir disconnected from the charger, it remains quieter sound.
At first thought that the headphone jack (3.5 mm Headphone:
Connection: 1/8-Inch Jack) or wiere have problem, but tried 3 different cables, but that does change enything, the problem remains.
When I added iPhonu3GS playing - the background sound were not, then everything is OK!
How can I remove the background sound from the headphone jack for my MacBook Air 13?

There is no way to bring that up unless you have it typed in a document. You can use My Support Profile to find a list of serial numbers that have been purchased or registered with your Apple ID.
