My sound no longer works on Mac OS after installing a Boot Camp partition for Windows 7 x64.

I installed Windows 7 x64-Bit Professional Edition on my iMac Mid-2011 on Yosemite 10.10.2 through Boot Camp. I installed Windows 7 without any hitches and I proceeded to install an old PC game and I was able to run it just fine, I could here the audio perfectly. But, the next day, when I started my iMac on the Mac OS partition, the sound bar icon on the top right was greyed out. This problem began occurring after I restarted to the (original) Mac OS partition I've tried to check it out on System Preferences and Audio MIDI Setup. On Sys Prefs, it says, "No output devices found" and "No input devices found". On Audio MIDI Setup, it says,"No Devices Found on the System."When I go back to the Windows partition, I can hear audio just fine and I can even set the volume from my keyboard. I have already updated the necessary drivers on the Windows side. I've reset the PRAM and repaired the disk permissions with Disk Utility. Headphones don't work either but I can send audio through a bluetooth speaker that I have.

Hi 0day,
unfortunately you have to have the MacOS DVD to install the Boot Camp 3 (legally).
The 3.1 and 3.2 are upgrades to that (as you found out).

  • Windows automatic startup on Mac Book after installing with Boot Camp?

I installed Windows XP Home Edition 2002 using Boot Camp on my Mac Book with Mac OS X 10.5.1. This is probably a minor problem, but every time I turn on my laptop, Windows XP automatically starts, and the only way to start with Mac OS X is by holding option during start up and selecting Macintosh HD. Is there anyway to automatically start up using Mac OS X and not Windows?

    Hi every/any-one
I had this initial problem whereby it automatically started Windows. I couldn't change the default in my Startup Disk pane in OSX because it didn't show either the Mac or XP partition. Once the bootcamp drivers were installed on XP though I could change it in windows - however this is where the real trouble has begun
Now if I restart my computer in either XP or OSX (5.2) I have massive pixel dramas on my screen - like a colour phase shift or something
However, once I am have chosen XP as the default system (whilst in XP boot camp bit) and then immediately restart I can continually restart in XP automatically without any pixel issues. Also if I choose OSX (whilst in XP) and then immediately restart, it will start in OSX correctly (BUT ONLY THE FIRST TIME) - The next time I automatically boot to OSX it is pixel dramas all over again - Similarly if I restart from OSX and want to change to XP and then hold down the option key to swap to XP, XP also has the pixel dramas and will continue to until I ask it to automatically start XP from teh boot camp menu - It is only if it automatically boots to XP that the problem is ok in XP.
I have down loaded the latest leopard updates and the ATI 8.43 graphics driver (the catalyst one didn't install properly so I have uninstalled that) and I still have the same issue - There is nothing on my XP partion at all except the new drivers and the Apple Mouse Utility which I initially put into the start up menu but have since removed and just left on the desktop - Aside from that nothing has changed in XP from its initial installation. I have only gone on the web twice in XP and been to highly reputable sites and not downloaded anything so it would be virtually impossible for it to be a virus. I also couldn't properly download the latest OSX updates via software update (it stalled at 239M so I restarted and got the rest but then it wouldn't install so in the end I had to download the update file manually to trigger the updates) - I am not sure if this is related, to the pixel problem or not.
Does anyone have any answers as I have restarted my computer at least 40 times in trying to isolate the specifics of the problem - but still can't work it out
Could it be related to the fact that neither of my partitions can be seen in startup disk in OSX?
Is it something to do with the screen res in XP ? (I have changed a bit but no good)
Could it be related to the Apple Mouse Utility (I downloaded this so I could right click in XP)
Any help other than formatting my drives, re-doing bootcamp, reinstalling XP would be greatly appreciated
    Thanks

  • How to adjust Boot Camp partition for more Mac space?

    Hello,
    TLDR Version:
When I setup Boot Camp, I intended to stay in Windows. I’ve now migrated to Mac and want more disc space allocated to it. How can I adjust this in Boot Camp without deleting and reinstalling Windows?
    Extended Version:
I have had a 21.5” iMac for right at a year now, and have been running Windows 95% of the time prior to last week. I decided that I was spending more time on the Mac partition and deciding that it was better in my eyes than Windows, and decided to install all of my productivity software (Microsoft Office/Adobe Creative Suite) on it in an effort to wean myself off of Windows.
Unfortunately, when I set the computer up, I did a 90/10 partition install of Windows on Boot Camp, with 90% of the disc space being allocated to Windows. Obviously, this will no longer work for me, and working from my files in the Boot Camp partition is both limited, and irritating. I would like to adjust the partition the other way; probably an 85/15 partition with the 85% being Mac OSX and the remainder being Windows. Because Mac OSX is the boot disc, it appears as though it can be made smaller, but not larger in Boot Camp.
    1. Is there a way to adjust the partition size without having to delete the Windows partition and reinstall?
    2. Is the Airport Time Capsule a suitable device to temporarily dump my data on while I adjust the partition? I’ve got 99% of my data on a separate external HDD from a data backup a month ago, but would rather not have to make another backup.
    I appreciate any information.
    Best regards,
    Ryan

You may want to look at Winclone or Camptune. There is Gparted/Live CD for the adventurous souls.

Time Machine cannot backup Windows. It will only back up OS  - Mac Basics: Time Machine backs up your Mac - Apple Support.

  • Late 2013 MBP/Fusion/Boot Camp partition w/Windows XP (!), can I get Bluetooth working or should I give up?

Hello and please bear with the length of this post.  I had an old MacBook Pro (2007 Santa Rosa) that ran Windows XP in a Boot Camp partition just fine.  One thing Windows has that the Mac doesn't is a free OBD2 app that lets me communicate with a Bluetooth OBD2 scanner to reset my check engine light and read the codes.  This scanner uses Bluetooth.
A few months ago by a stroke of good luck I got a new Retina MacBook Pro.  Windows XP will not install on it, only Win 7 & 8 (I don't have the install disks anymore anyway).  I did not want to buy a new Windows just to run this one program (the only Windows app I really need).  I thought I could possibly run my old Win XP Boot Camp partition (now in an external USB3 case) under Fusion, and it turns out that I can indeed do this.  However I can not get Bluetooth to work – Win XP, under Fusion, does not see any Bluetooth hardware.  I got some help on the Fusion forum – I was told to uncheck the Share Bluetooth devices with the virtual machine box and check the Apple Bluetooth USB Host Controller box to connect Bluetooth to the virtual machine.  WIn XP, under Fusion, does not seem to see any Bluetooth hardware.
My question is, do the Boot Camp drivers originally installed when I first used Win XP on my old Santa Rosa MBP have any role here?  I was thinking I might have to update those drivers since I'm on a new Retina MBP, but the update notes specifically say the newer drivers are for Windows 7 and 8.  I haven't tried to install them yet – maybe they'll even refuse to install, I don't know.
If I'm truly wasting my time trying to get this to work I'll fork over the $40 for the Mac OBD2 software, although I really only need it for a "single use" (trying to pass a state inspection, lol!).  TIA for any help!

Please ignore the last message - I was hoping I could delete the thread but it looks like I can't.
After a little more investigation I've decided to give up this quest and pay the $40 for the Mac software.

  • Early 2008 Mac Pro - Can't load Boot Camp drivers for Win 7 64

Trying to install Win 7 64 bit on my early 2008 Mac Pro.  I downloaded the Boot Camp drivers 4.0.4033 and installed them on a USB drive but, for some reason, when I try the install them during the process, I get a message that my hardware is not recognized.  Skipping the driver loading process, I am able to install Win 7 but when the system trys to restart to continue the install, I get a message "disk error, press any key to restart".  Pressing any key does not get me anywhere.  I went through the Win 7 repair process and again tried to load the drivers with no luck.
    Any thoughts would be appreciated.
    Thank you,

That article was also my starting point and I have followed those steps again and again and again. I haven't slept, I haven't done anything other then try to make it work for more hours than I can count. I came here for help because that solution is not working for me.
The region and keyboard type settings simply don't have the Apple keyboard layout listed. As I said, someone on the Fusion forum tried to follow the article's instructions too and he managed to get it working because he COULD run setup.exe (Boot Camp Drivers) on his machine, and I CAN'T. Yes, it is all explained in that article... but the drivers WON'T INSTALL, I get an error message saying "This version of Boot Camp is not intended for this computer model".
First you said it wasn't physically possible for me to install the drivers, then you said I should just follow the article. Well, the article clearly says "Install the Boot Camp Windows device drivers in the virtual machine" which you just said couldn't be done! I want to cry. I should have just bought a second laptop, this is too painful.

  • Macs don't show me created the partition for windows. And if through Bootcamp that says "No bootable device found" . Please HELP.

Shared disk (Tried 2 methods BootCamp and Disk Utility) to install windows, but the section is not shown, to be precise, when you turn the Mac while holding Alt key shows the partition for system restore and disk partition with OSX, and not created by me. If you try through Bootcamp that actually says "No bootable device". What could it be? I have a macbook pro 371ll/a, OSX 10.9.5 . Thanks for the reply.

Thank you! All established, but a new problem with Windows 7 partition. If you install Windows on a Mac, say you gave 30GB on widows, after installation you have 2GB from 30GB, while the size of the files in Windows is 18 GB, should be free 12 from 30. Hidden files on large amounts of no (100 MB all hidden files together). Know that there is a disk which reserves memory for the system, but I don't have, I look through the taskbar there is a disk with osx and bootcamp and all. What could it be, if you of course know.

  • Scanning windows boot camp partition for viruses from mac system

is there any way that i can scan my boot camp partition (windows hard drive)from my mac operating system since i think this will remove more viruses and leave less chance for them to reappear.
    thanks

I would first buy or find the best malware/spyware AV software and firewall.
An ounce of prevention costs less than the pound of cure.
Backup Windows image with WinClone or something.
ClamXav or Intego AV 5 are two ideas mentioned earlier.
If you use the web and email you need to install some programs, free or commercial.

  • Windows 7 Install failed - Boot camp partition to NTFS during formatting worked but when i clicked onto the 'next' button, it won't allow me to proceed any further. Help!

    Hi there,
I used the following manual (http://manuals.info.apple.com/MANUALS/1000/MA1583/en_US/boot_camp_install-setup_ 10.7.pdf) in attempt to install windows 7 onto my mac but I get an error at Step 3 - windows installation process
I selected the BOOTCAMP partitioned drive as mentioned, clicked the advance options, and then reformatted that drive. What happens next is the drive changes name from BOOTCAMP to 'untitled'. I then tried to click 'next' button but it won't let me proceed any further and didn't state clearly why it couldn't go through (instead says to check the log file for reason why - but then I have not clue where this log file is located in as well!).
I had a look at that partitioned drive after to find that it is NTFS format (when I went back to OS x) so it appears that I am doing the right thing so that shouldn't be the issue..
Does anyone know what could be wrong? or what I should try to do next?
Could it be a format error because when i click onto the 'untitled' drive, there is nothing in there.

    Hi Steve1904,
So you have use the backup and Restore to restore your files from Windows XP to Windows 7 directly?
This should be considered not work.
If you would like to transfer files between Windows XP and Windows 7, you need another tool called Windows Easy Transfer.
See the article below if you would like to upgrade from Windows XP to Windows 7:
Upgrading from Windows XP to Windows 7
If possible, follow the steps there, then things should be OK.

  • Mac Mini mid 2011 Windows 7 64 Bit crashes to blue screen after install of Boot Camp Drivers

    Hello.
I have installed Windows 7 64 bit on my Mac Mini mid 2011. After the install, I install the Bootcamp Drivers and then after the restart it starts to load and then crashes. Is there some trick to get it to work, It runs fine if I do not install the drivers, but not much works on it.
Thank you in advance for any help.

    Hi,
Same thing here - but on Mac mini mid 2010...
I have installed the newest drivers downloaded via Boot Camp Assistant 4.0 (from Lion 10.7.1) on Windows 7 64-bit but the updated graphic driver causes my both screens (monitor - MiniDisplayPort and TV - HDMI) to go black, and eventually computer restarts or freezes.
I did some checks reinstalled whole windows, narrowed search to graphisc drivers and can confirm that up to BootCamp version 3.3 (nvidia ver. 19x.x) everything is fine but drivers from Boot Camp 4.0 (nvidia ver. 26x.x) simply render Windows 7 in 64-bit variant useless.
I look forward to some sort of solution or update from Apple as soon as poddible...!!

  • Bluetooth stops working in OS X after restarting from Boot Camp

I just recently installed XP SP3 as a part of Boot Camp on my iMac, which has worked great. Unfortunately, when I boot back into OS X, my bluetooth icon shows up as "Bluetooth: Not Available." I am able to get the bluetooth back by turning off my iMac, unplug everything, and then start it back after waiting a short period of time. So that's the good news, that I can get my bluetooth back, but this happens every time I use Boot Camp. Again, Boot Camp works just fine, bluetooth and everything. But I lose bluetooth when I go back to OS X.
Has anybody else seen this? Any solution(s) to keep me from losing my bluetooth every time coming out of XP in Boot Camp back to OS X? I would appreciate any help...

On this forum lately: JASimon, Oz, sez: " ... There is a bug with ColorSync profiles and Fast User Switching whereby *you can end up with the Generic RGB profile* instead of the appropriate LCD monitor profile after you switch users. You can read a little about it here along with a number of suggested solutions. This leads to a generally washed out and slightly bluish look to your screen (although I imagine it could be purplish depending on your screen).
It doesn't sound like you are using Fast User Switching, but it might be worth checking the Displays control panel when this problem occurs and have a look under the Color tab to see which monitor profile is being used...."

I had just read these through the other day, which helped me; when searching, it helps to know it is there: so when it becomes visible one actually sees it, instead of looking past, or through, it?

  • Mac pro boot camp partition cloned to MBP?

i have a 200 GB mac pro boot camp partition with windows 7 on it and between setting it up and getting all my software customized it has been like doing time in a soviet gulag.
if i create a 200 GB partition on my MBP can i clone this from one machine to another?
it would save me a heck of a lot of time and aggravation
    TIA
p.s not sure if this makes a difference but my mac pro is a first generation deal that required amy burning a image to disk or something along those lines...

Do you know what I do to get 10.5?
Purchase it if the computer doesn't include it.
Also, I don't understand why the drivers are going to be on older software that doesn't have Boot Camp bundled with it.
The drivers are not on a Mac OS X 10.4 CD or DVD. They are on the Mac OS X 10.5 DVD.
Leopard has Boot Camp bundled with it doesn't it? Isn't part of the deal upgrading and improving the drivers?
    Yes.
You say in the above "or use up a Windows installation"
This only applies if the Windows disk or license agreement allows you to create a limited number of installations.
Are you saying here that I could also reformat the drive with XP on it?
You could, but there is little reason to do so.
Do I have to reconfigure my workspaces if I do the second option above?
If you erase the Windows partition, yes.

  • HT204266 The sound no longer works on my ipad?

The sound no longer works on my iPad although when I put headphones in it does. When I press the volume button it comes up as "sound effects" but with no dots that would normally go up or down. When I double click the start button there is the normal volume bit but no button to move up or down. Has anyone ever had this before?

The disappearing sound is typically one of three things that could be going on. Read this and see which one applies to your situation.
    1. If you have no sound at all, even in the Music App, try rebooting the iPad.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.
    2. If you lost sounds for keyboard clicks, games or other apps, email notifications and other notifications, system sounds may have been muted.
System sounds can be muted and controlled two different ways. The screen lock rotation can be controlled in the same manner as well.
Settings>General>Use Side Switch to: Mute System sounds. If this option is selected, the switch on the side of the iPad above the volume rocker will mute system sounds.
If you choose Lock Screen Rotation, then the switch locks the screen. If the screen is locked, you will see a lock icon in the upper right corner next to the battery indicator gauge.
If you have the side switch set to lock screen rotation then the system sound control is in the task bar. Double tap the home button and in the task bar at the bottom, swipe all the way to the right. The speaker icon is all the way to the left. Tap on it and system sounds will return.
If you have the side switch set to mute system sounds, then the screen lock rotation can be accessed via the task bar in the same manner as described above.
This support article from Apple explains how the side switch works.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4085
    3. If you still have no sound at all - except when using headphones ....try cleaning the dock connector opening of the iPad with a soft brush and just a little bit of rubbing alcohol.
