My speaker is broken

For no reason in particular, the speaker function on my iphone 4 has quit.  I tried inserting and removing the headset jack a few times in case the phone thought they were plugged in.  No result.  After watching a video on youtube about using the proximity sensor to work out if the jack is fooling the phone, I'm confident that it's not, ie: the speaker doesn't work because it's broken!!  Surely I'm mistaken, broken hardware after 3 weeks of low-level use?

Sounds like you'll need to bring your phone in for evaluation.

You are not address ing Apple here, we are all just users like yourself.
If the headphones work but not the speaker:
    - Try cleaning out/blowing out the headphone jack. Try inserting/removing the plug a dozen times or so. There is a little switch in the headphone jack that disconnects the speaker when the headphone jack is inserted.
Try the following to rule out a software problem
    - Reset the iPod. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPod.
If the speaker still does not work, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. Seems you have a bad headphone jack.

If not under warranty Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one for this price. They do not fix yours. The Apple warranty is for one year unless you purchased the optional Applecare extended warranty

A third-party place like the following will replace the jack for less. Google for more.

  • AirPlay keeps turning itself on.  Thought my internal speaker was broken!  Nope.  Just have to keep turning AirPlay off.

AirPlay, iPod3, iOS 6.0.1: AirPlay keeps turning itself on.  Seems to be since iOS update.  I thought my internal speaker was broken!  Nope.  Just have to keep turning AirPlay off.  I'm posting this both for others who might have this problem, and to ask how to keep airplay off.

The "fix" is to get the phone repaired.  There's no magic solution for a broken phone.
Bring your phone ant $149 to Apple for an out of warranty replacement, or find a 3rd party repair shop near you.

  • My speaker is broken.... But my microphone works except my speaker but you can hear music out of it but you have to put it really close to your ear.... How do I fix it????

You don't - you check your warranty status and have apple replace it for you. make sure you restore the phone as new first (after making a backup, of course) to see if the speaker works then. this isolates the issue to either your hardware or your software. if it's still happening after a restore as new through itunes, it means it's hardware that's the problem and apple will fix it for you

  • Speaker has broken on iPhone 3GS

Hi, I bought my iPhone 3GS around a year ago on a two year contract. Around 3 months ago I dropped it and cracked the screen. Luckily I had insurance and got a replacement for £15! However around 2 weeks ago the speakers on the new replacement handset have broken. Am I entitled to a replacment?

"Am I entitled to a replacment?"
    Probably not.

  • Speaker Connector Broken Off INSIDE Computer

The end connector to my speakers broke IN HALF inside my computer. Now the MBPro thinks that there are speakers connected all the time and it won't play any sound through the built-in speakers. I'm afraid that this would void my warranty and be expensive to repair if I brought it into an apple store. Any suggestions? I'm going crazy with no sound coming out of my computer (except that "dduuuummmm" sound when the computer turns on, annoyingly).

Before trying all kinds of stuff to get it out that might damage the mac, take it in and find out what the costs would be, if there even are any.
Then you can decide to have it fixed safely or trying it yourself.
I'm pretty sure that trying it yourself will cause damage so be careful.

  • Speaker in my Blackberry is bust - help!

As of the start of last week for no reason at all,, I had been experiencing problems with my calls - they are echoey and distorted, especially when I am speaking to whoever is on the other end of the line.
I took it into my local Orange shop when I was home from University for the weekend, the store I bought the phone in, and they identified the issue as being my speaker is broken, and they phoned each others phones from my Blackberry to hear for themselves the issue.
They suggested that I phone Orange (my provider) to see what they can offer me for help, and they did help a little bit but I was told to phone Blackberry as they should be able to help me out. I was given a number to phone, however I was spoken to by an American so I dread to think how much that call has cost me, and she was absolutely useless and said there was nothing she could do.
I was in another Orange shop today to ask for another number to contact and I was directed here, and that Blackberry should get back to me via this, or arrange to contact me.
She also told me that Blackberry have a two year warranty on their handsets, and I have had my phone for a year and three months.
I take really good care of my phone (I need to, I'm a student!) and I was wondering if someone from Blackberry can help me out, and let me know how I go about getting my mobile repaired/ replaced. I was told in store that repair/possibly even replacement should be free as it is within Blackberry's warranty and the issue is down to a technical fault in the phone, rather than it being broken because it has been damaged.
Hope someone can help me out because I cannot bare to live with this issue for much longer and really need it sorted!
Also, my phone keeps unpromtly switching itself off completely, not just switching itself off : rebooting each time so it takes FOREVER to come back on again. This has been happening really frequently over the last week aswell!

  • Speaker on phone calls will not work, how can I fix this? I have already done system restart and reset to manufature default.

speaker on phone calls will not work, how can I fix this? I have already done system restart and reset to manufature default. I also have no voice with Safari or any other apps including music!

If your speaker is broken, then you may need to get a repair done.
Are you unable to hear anything at all, or is it just one speaker in particular?
If it is just one speaker, where's it located?

  • Volume wont work without headphones or speaker

when there is nothing attached to my 4th generation itouch, the volume icon switches to the way its displayed when there is a speaker attached & there is no sound at all.  the volume does work when speakers/headphones are attached& i know that the speaker isnt broken. I've tried turning it on & off, and I've already restored it but it still doesnt work. what do i do??

If you restored to factory defaults/new iPod and still have the problem you very likely have a hardware problem. Likely a bad headphone jack. I would make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

  • MacBook Pro speaker rattle

    Hey guys.
My MacBook Pro is about 13 months old now, and just recently i have noticed rattling in the right speaker. This mainly happens on high pitched sounds like a piano being played in a song.
My MacBook Pro is the early 2011 model.
I'm now out of warranty so was wondering if anyone had any similar experiences or advice?
    Thanks in advance
    Jack

I have had similair issues. I solved mine by messing with the audio output settings. You can try going to System Preferences>Sound>Output and adjusting the balance and output volume.

  • Speaker problems

I just noticed that the right speaker on my mbp is not working. Is there a setting to fix this or is it just plain broken?

Hello! First, go to preferences system - Sound. In the mark "OUT" (I don't know exactly in MacOS X english version, 'cause I have a spanish version) and check the balance. And make an Apple Hardware Test. If it doesn't work, I'm affraid your right speaker is broken.
