If you got it 1 year ago in september, the hardware warranty has expired by now unless you had your device covered by applecare insurance.
and if it WERE covered by limited hardware warranty, an obvious hardware issue like the power button not working is covered under the warranty UNLESS it was due to accidental damage.
So if you paid 198 dollars, chances are its because you dropped your phone and thats why the button was not working,.
..and even then, the iphone 4 out of warranty/accidental damage replacement fee is 149. not 198.

That is the safest thing to do. In fact if it were my Mac I would have backed it up already as soon as I heard that noise. Besides is they replace the disk there is a chance they could lose your data.

In this case I suggest a bootable clone created with either Carbon Copy Clone or SuperDuper.
The length of time for repair depends on how busy they are. I would expect them to tell you two or three days.

Will Apple replace my iPhone 5 for free if the lock button is not working properly?

My iPhone 5 was bought in March 2013 and broke in January 2014 so I still have a few months left on my one year warranty.
My lock button did not get stuck or jammed, but all of a sudden it just would not work. I don't notice anything different about it and it still makes a "click" noise when I press it but, it wont do anything or respond to anything. Clearly something is wrong with it and I am not sure why.
I have my assessive touch ON but I would rather use my lock button.
If I bring it into Apple will they replace it for FREE if my one year warranty isn't over and my lock button just will not respond to me pressing it?

If Apple determines that it is eligible for coverage under the warranty then they will either replace it or fix it.
In my experience,, if it is truly just a faulty button, then they will fix it but the tech will make that determination after inspection.

They will probably replace it for free unless they determine it is something not covered by the warranty. Accidental damage such as caused by dropping something usually isn't covered by the standard warranty.
Make sure you back up your files. Although this has nothing to do with the hard drive you might wish to remove any sensitive files first, and have copies of all your files just toi be sure.

I'm having similar problems with my Epson Stylus DX5000. There was no in-built driver available (the generic old and new Stylus drivers didn't work), so downloaded the latest driver from Epson site. It shows as being available to print to, but just sends data to the print queue then job disappears.
I hope you're right C F McBlob, I could do with printing today but if there are new drivers available from November 5, then so be it.

Try to put your headphones several times in and out from your connection, might be the switch is stuck. Normally it should work again while trying to plug the headphones in and out!

Power the phone off completely. Plug the USB end of the cord into the computer, leaving the other end unplugged from the phone. While the phone is powered off, open up iTunes, hold down the home button on the phone, and plug in the USB cord to the phone, making sure you keep holding down the home button. I'm experiencing the same issue. Not only do I get a messed up library, but since I've let iTunes handle my music files, they too have been shuffled around - placed in different album folders and sometimes given names of other songs... With quite a large library, the cleanup makes me feel a bit like Sisyfos pushing the rock uphill - it's a never ending story. Only positive side of this is that I get to play a lot of music quizzes while guessing who plays the song that is disguised as eg. Buddy from De La Soul, and then afterwards try to track down the real 'Buddy' as this has also found another folder to hide in...
Shazam has come to the rescue a few times so far...
