My Startup Disk can not show in Finder.

My Startup Disk can not show in Finder.but it can be used in OSX normally.
So can I put it back to Finder?

If the startup disk is for Mac OS 9, neither MacBook nor PowerMac G5 can boot into 9. Only the PowerMac G5 can use Mac OS 9 in Apple menu -> System Preferences -> Classic.
Please be more detailed what sort of Startup Disk you are talking about, which operating system, and which machine this is a problem with.

  • Hard disk does not show in finder

WE had a system failure with our server instance a month back and since then, one of my internal HD's will not show in finder. It's also causing carbon copy pro to fail when trying to find it. I have verified it can be seen in the disk utility and from a terminal prompt. I rant this to confirm:
{ diskutil list; echo; diskutil cs list; } | open -f -a TextEdit
No matter what I do, i cannot see it. Verify and repair in disk util come up saying it's okay. I have selected show HDD's in finder preferences. A possibly related side effect is that my users, who can browse this over the network, cannot search in the directory.
Any help you can lend would be helpful.
    OSX version 10.8.4

Not partitioned - part of a raid. Was initially formatted, yes. THis has been in production for a couple of years and just dropped out. "THIS DISK" is the disk that vanish. I renamed it for forum purposes.

  • External hard disk does not show in finder

WD usb external hard disk does not appear in finder.  Disk utility sees it and will mount/unmount and eject.  I ran repair disk util. and all is well but still does not appear in finder

Hey Hatter,  Thanx for the input.
Among other things I tried was a terminal routine someone suggested with no luck and new drivers/firmware for the drive, again, no luck.
I still don't know for sure what caused my problem, but I re-partitioned the drive and re-formatted it and that seemed to solve the provlem.  Sadly, I lost all my info that was backed up on that particular drive but hopefully it won't come back to bite me later.
    Cheers!!

I used my LG external HDD  disk drive on my mac a couple of times but now it's not being recognised by my mac anymore and doesn't show up on finder.

I tried several other times to repair it by clicking repair but the same information kept popping up.
I'm also unable to erase or partition the disk. I have no important files on it so I don't mind deleting them all but i'm unable to do so using disk utility. Please advice on what to do or the steps to take from here. Thanks

  • Startup disk does not see windows

using bootcamp i have created a partition in which i have installed windows. my problem is this: if i go in "startup disk" i cannot chose to restart in windows because startup disk does not show the disk of windows, but only:
    - mac osx
    -network startup.
to start with windows i have to shut down my imac and restart pressing "alt".
please, somebody can tell what i have to do to see the disk "BOOTCAMP-WINDOWS" in startup disk?
    thanks

Yeah me too and one of the problems using it with bootcamp is that macosx will not see the startup disc and will say that it's corrupted, etc since unlike Vista which is supported it creates 2 partitions during setup which I'm guessing is confusing macosx.
So even though it seems to work okay enough I have to hit the alt key each time to boot into it and wait for next version of bootcamp which is supposed to support Win7.

  • External hard drive not showing in finder or disk utility

1TB WD external hard drive is not showing in finder sidebar, destop, or disk utility. I have checked and all the preferences are ticked. The disk itself is showing a light and making a whirring sound during start up after being plugged into the power.

Three different external drives, on 2 different MacBook Pros (different ages).  One drive with internal power, 2 through USB.  Also have a new Solid State External Drive and it does work.  The were all working before upgrade to Yosemite.

  • Please can kind person help me with uploading photos, not showing in finder!

    Hello dear Apple users,
Please can any kindly souls offer advice at this busy time... I am trying to create a last-minute personalised gift for a beloved brother but have not yet succeeded in uploading my photos from this page:
    http://www.bagsoflove.co.uk/estore/design/51?tid=26342844-7e27-4d27-a0ab-b841175 00ac2
I know it should be easy but when I hit upload and select my "photos" from drop down menu on left, there all my photos except the ones I carefully edited, saved and flagged in iPhoto earlier this evening- I  have checked in iPhoto and they are still there, all flagged etc but not showing in finder. (grr!)
So I opened menu from iPhoto and clicked "make visible in Finder" option, saved them with distinctive names but they are still not coming up when I search those file names..
Please what else can I do?

You never access your photos in iPhoto using the finder - the iPhoto application totally replaces the finder for photos when you use it - you can select the photos in iPhoto and export to a desktop folder (see Exporting From iPhoto for export options) or you use the media browser available in every open/upload/attach window on the  left under media==> photos ==> iPhoto - see How to Access Files in iPhoto for more details

  • Memup hard disc does not show in Finder

I have attached a Memup 250GB hard disk by USB to my MBP. The disk does not show up in Finder, nor in Disk Utility.
The disk works fine if I plug it into a PC. I have formatted it on the PC to FAT.
Any suggestions on how I can get it to work on my MBP?

Sounds like you have a connection issue.  Try all the USB ports and a different cable.
    Ciao.

  • Since updating my Mac to 10.8.4 any external hard disk doesn't show on Finder sidebar (but shows on desktop). Anyone else have the same problem?

Since updating my Mac to 10.8.4 any external hard disk doesn't show on Finder sidebar (but shows on desktop). Anyone else have the same problem?
It's annoying because now I can't use Finder sidebar for drag and drop to thumb drive etc.
Thanks for your thoughts and help!

    Hi Barney-15E,
Thanks for your reply and suggestions!
It is set to show on the sidebar in Finder prefs and I tried toggling the setting multiple times but it didn't fix anything.
I went into Preferences (I'm Administrator) but the strange thing is I don't see com.apple.sidebarlists.plist anywhere in the folder. Not sure what that means..

  • The startup disk does not have enough space to be partitioned

I have a custom upgraded Mac Mini (from 1.6 Core Duo to 2.33 Core 2 Duo & 64GB SSD - a fast little machine!) Under Leopard 10.6.6 & could create a BootCamp partition. Now after a reformat & upgrade to 10.6.7, BootCamp reports, "The startup disk does not have enough space to be partitioned". BootCamp says it needs 10 GB free space. The Finder says there is 23.4 GB available.
Has anyone else run across this?

    Backup. Format. Restore.
    Windows 7 needs 40GB+
HFS needs 20GB/20% free space to function.
64GB is fine -- but just one OS, not two.
you might squeeze OS X into 30GB if you move and trim a lot.
Windows 7 SP1 32-bit - the updates take 9GB of space (temp) on top of 20-25GB plus you'll need to disable page, hibernation, not install programs, and leaves little for TRIM and Garbage Collection.
When Windows gets too low, you can be blocked from login or runnng.

  • External hard drive and startup drive are not showing on desktop

Hi, I just brought my macbook pro home from the apple store after having the hard drive replaced. It is not recognizing my Drobo in order to do a time machine backup. The Drobo was functioning perfectly well when I brought the computer in, so I can't imagine there's a problem with that. As well, my startup drive does not show on my desktop. Help please! I need my machine working for a presentation tomorrow. Many thanks.

If the drobo is powered on,
the cables are in completely (did you check it?)
drobo has power and is running
and you checked "show external drives on the desktop" in finder settings,
and the drobo is not shown there:
the status of the drobo is not choisen correct (it works as a raid x  instead of raid y)
or one or more harddrive(s) inside is/are mad.

  • Disk can not be read from or written to

This iPod nano second gen is brand new. Bought it today and I put like 10 songs and 10 photos on for my sister and now it's saying "disk can not be read from or written to" and now it's not showing up in iTunes or "My Computer". Help, please?

Is there an error number listed in the message? This would be helpful. You may also want to check for other threads that may have already answered your questions before posting. Another good option even before using the forums is to go to the iPod nano support section and then search through the articles for possible solutions. The links I have provided to some of your threads have come from aquick search of the problem you listed starting on the main support page Support.

Are you trying to copy the OSX drive from a MacBookPro to an iMac?  If so, be glad it won't let you.  Most likely, it won't run at all; if it does, all sorts of things will go wrong.
What are you trying to do?   If you're trying to set one Mac up like another one, see How do I set up a new Mac from an old one, its backups, or a PC?
