Don't mess with anything you don't recognize. The system is generally not the reason for lack of free space.
Best candidates are your files which are located in the folder with the little house for an icon in Finder. Of your own files the one most likely to take the largest amount disk space are music, movies, video and photos. Any of those can be deleted or move to external storage.

Why does my Imac screen slide and I lose my screen ~ It goes back to my desktop.
Then sometimes my screen goes to full screen without me doing any commands, and I don't know how to get out of it without going to force quit and starting all over.

    Hi,
When it goes full screen try moving the mouse up to top right of scren & see if there a double diagonal Arrow to click on.

  • Hi, I just put a new internal hard disk to my MacBook after formattimg it and I don't know how to install the OS X? Any help please

Hi, I just put a new internal hard disk to my MacBook after formattimg it and I don't know how to install the OS X? Any help please

Be sure you have prepared the new drive correctly:
    Drive Preparation
    1.  Boot from your OS X Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button.  When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  SMART info will not be reported  on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID (for Intel Macs) or APM (for PPC Macs) then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
    5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
    6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.
Steps 4-6 are optional but should be used on a drive that has never been formatted before, if the format type is not Mac OS Extended, if the partition scheme has been changed, or if a different operating system (not OS X) has been installed on the drive.
When formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer.  Complete the OS X installation.

You need to purchase an external drive and start moving some files to it or you can try trashing some files that you no longer need.
Download OmniDiskSweeper and see where your larger files are... you can move them to an external drive or trash them: it's up to you.
I would also begin, since it's obviously don't have backups, a backup scheme or two. See Most commonly used backup methods.
    Good luck,

If the thief enabled activation lock on the device, then there is nothing that can be done.  Only the password for the Apple ID that it is locked with can disable activation lock.

Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

If recovery mode does not work try DFU mode.

When you restore the iPod will also be updated. Make sure that you have iTunes version 11 on the computer.

I have bought a iphone 5 second hand and i restore it and now i need the icloud original user and i don't know it!what can i do?i can not activate my iphone

If you're able to contact the previous owner, send them this link and tell them to follow the instructions.
If not, you can't activate the device but may be able to get it refunded.
Apple won't remove the lock for anyone other than the original owner(assuming they're alive.)

When I went and connected my phone to my laptop and hit restore and it got rid of everything my photos my contacts everything and I don't know how to get the stuff back and if you need to know I have an IPhone4S

I take it you were replacing an older iPhone and this was the first time you plugged it in? If so, that's what happens. It restored the backup of your old phone. A backup of the current phone is not made in those circumstances.
If that's not what happened, you need to clarify.

  • Start up disk full and I don't know how to look at what is filling it up

    Hi, I have 2 questions.
My start up disk is full and I deleted a whole bunch of stuff and it didn't help. How can I see what is taking up all the space? I only have stuff in Documents (nothing in pictures, movies, desktop) and it isn't alot of stuff. I have lots of applications but I assume that has nothing to do with the start up disk.
Second question. Can I use a generic cable to connect my laptop to my Apple Studio monitor or do I need the apple one?

    Hi
First, and forgive me if it's obvious, but empty the trash.
Second, if you have some space left (ie, not literally 0 MB!), download and install OmniDiskSweeper. It will scan your drive and tell you where the large files are. The Applications folder is indeed part of the startup disk, so you could be taking up room there, but it's likelier to be either forgotten user files or possibly abnormally large log files resulting from a system problem.
If you have either GarageBand or iDVD, and don't use them, you can delete their large support files (themes for iDVD, audio loops for GarageBand). The GarageBand files are in /Library/Application Support/GarageBand (about 2GB), and the iDVD files are in /Library/Application Support/iDVD (about 1GB).

When I clicked 'check for update' it just says that 2.2.1 is the current version
It will - until you purchase iOS 3.
Follow the link that stedman provided, and on that page, instead of choosing the link to iOS4, choose Purchase the iOS 3.1 Software Update directly from the iTunes Store. When you choose it, iTunes will open to the store and page for buying (purchasing) the update. It doesn't cost much (a few dollars although I cannot recall precisely) and it is the only way to update from you current iOS version. Once you do that, a further update to iOS 4.2.1 is free. That particular update may occur straight away, I don't know.
By the way, iOS 4.2.1 is as high as the 2nd generation Touch can go, but don't let that put you off. I have one and although I cannot install the BBC iPlayer (because it requires iOS 5) there are many Apps that work perfectly well with iOS 4.2.1.
    decy95:
I've just read the another discussion (to which you contributed), in which Illaass suggests that you may have a 1st generation Touch. If that is so, then your iPod will only be able to update to iOS 3.1.3. This will still need to be purchased, but be aware that many Apps require iOS 4 or higher, so your options would be more limited. So follow the link Illaass provided to confirm which model you have.
