My status bar in the upper right disappears

My status bar flashes on and off, but when I try to select something up there, it disappears. It never did this in Tiger.
I'm using a 21.5  3.06GHz iMac, Intel Core 2 Duo
Running 10.7.2
Carol

Has it always done this since you upgraded to Lion? If so, chances are the install is faulty (I had a similar issue with the desktop flashing every 10 secs on one install I did).
The only solution is to restart holding down 'Command-R' and select 'reinstall Lion' from the menu.
Before you do that, and particularly if its just started, you could try re-launching the mds process and see if that cures it. To do that
1. Open 'Activity Monitor.app' (Applications > Utilities > Activity Monitor.app)
2. Select 'All Processes' from the drop down menu next to the search bar (called 'Filter:') and type in 'mds'.
3. Select the process name 'mds' with User 'root'. Click the 'Quit Process' button at the top. You will be asked to supply your password.

  • Why do the scroll bars on the lower right disappear in Motion 5?

After upgrading to Mavericks I noticed that the scroll bars on the right hand side disappear after using them once. See pictures.
How do I solve this? Very inconvenient to say the least. I've tried restarting and repair permissions so far.
Restarting Motion brings them back, but as soon as I scroll for the first time: they're gone again!
Please help! So I can finish my project…

I was able to bring them back without restarting motion by opening opening and closing the timeline.  Either click the button at the bottom right of the Motion window that looks like a film strip, or use the keyboard shortcut (Command+7).  A couple of other options that may help, use the scroll wheel of your mouse or change the height of your layers to show more.  You chan change the height by going to the layer list to the right of the timeline and moving your cursor between two layers.  It will change to a double arrow.  You can click and drag to grow or shrink your layer height.

  • The download progress bar on the upper right side of the firefox window has turned grey and download is not progressing, help

I started downloading a file whose size was 4.75GB and the time remaining shown was 4 days. I left it overnight (computer was set to never sleep mode), and next day (today) morning the total file size shown in the download bar is 534MB. Yes, this doesnt sound sane, but I am telling what has happened.
Moreover the download stopped progressing and the seemed to resume once I had manually paused and resumed it.
Please suggest what is wrong and how to fix it

It is possible that anti-virus software is corrupting downloaded files or is interfering otherwise.
Try to disable the real-time (live) scanning of files in your anti-virus software temporarily to see if that makes downloading work.

  • Where is the search bar in the upper right ? It certainly doesn't appear on my 5.0 browser. Let me know when it appears and google is available again. I'm back to IE.

    Since installing version 5.0, I can't search!!

Firefox is customizable -- that is something you can easily fix.
You can make Firefox 4.0.1 and '''Firefox 5.0''' look like Firefox 3.6.18, see numbered items 1-10 in the following topic

  • I have a Macbook Pro (2009) and the tool bar in Safari keeps disappearing. There's a small diagonal arrow on the upper right that I can click and the bar will appear temporarily, but then it disappears from view. "Hide Toolbar" is greyed out in VIEW

My 2009 Macbook Pro's Safari doesn't show the tool bar anymore.  I can click on a diagonal arrow in the upper right corner that appears when I put my cursor there and the tool bar will show, but then it disappears again.  Also, when I get an email and click on an internet link the Safari doesn't open full page like it used to - it opens as a small little box and I have to click the diagonal arrow in upper right corner for it to open full screen.  Any ideas how to correct this - it is so annoying.  Thanks for any help!

The "restore disk" is built into the Mac. See About Recovery.
Need more specifics about what error messages you got while installing Adobe Flash.
However, you can almost avoid Flash altogether by setting YouTube to play the HTML5 version instead.
Click the Try something new! link at the bottom of the YouTube page.
I don't know about the sound issue. Might be hardware as you think. Try other headphones to check.

My icon is solid black, in the shape of a cloud? On the upper right hand status bar.

You're talking about a mac, right?  There is no icloud icon on a mac except in System Preferences.  Perhaps that icon belongs to some other application that is independent of iCloud; perhaps some other cloud service?

  • I tried some software that changed my settings to use Bing, How can I change my settings to have google as my new tab search. Not the upper right bar the center

Not the upper right the center one when you click on new tab

I'm guessing you want to use Google as your new tab page?<br>
You can do that by editing about:config:
*Go to about:config (via Location Bar)
*Click the "I'll be careful, I promise!" to proceed.
    *Search for '''browser.newtab.url'''
*Right click and click Modify > type '''www.google.com'''
*Then click OK to accept changes
*Restart Firefox and see if the new tab pulls up as Google.

  • I have installed Creative Cloud Desktop but it fails to load. The icon shows up in the bar at the top right but then it just disappears. I am running Yosemite on a MacBook Pro.

I downloaded and installed Creative Cloud Installer and installed the Creative Cloud desktop on my MacBook Pro running Yosemite. The Creative Cloud desktop tries to install when the system starts and the icon actually shows in the top bar briefly and then disappears shortly after it shows up so it is obviously failing to load. I have tried multiple times to no avail.

do you mean in my system library? or where can I find it?

  • Beachball spinning on the upper right tool bar when running on WiFi.

I am now running my iMac (27 inch, 3.4GHz, 8GB memory, OS X 10.8.2).  After a while (minutes to days) I get the spinning beach ball when I mouse over icons in the upper right corner tool bar.  If I shout off the WiFi the problem goes away, for awhile.  Likewise if I log off and back on
I have flashed the NV Ram, deleted and had the system rebuild the com.apple. alf.plist file, and now I'm running in safe mode to see if it comes back.
It does not appear immediately after WiFi turn on or log on.  Sometimes it happens in minutes sometimes after several days.  There is not time consistency nor have I been able to identify any actions that consistently make it happen.
    Suggestions??

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. For instructions, launch the System Preferences application, select Help from the menu bar, and enter “Set up guest users” (without the quotes) in the search box. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Shut down your computer, wait 30 seconds, and then hold down the shift key while pressing the power button.
When you see the gray Apple logo, release the shift key.
If you are prompted to log in, type your password, and then hold down the shift key again as you click Log in.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.  The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
*Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t boot in safe mode.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of steps 1 and 2.

  • HT5361 Is it possible to eliminate the upper right notification Banner from Mail without removing the Mail icon from the lower bar?

Every time I get an email, that darned notification banner pops up in the upper right corner.  I don't want to eliminate Mail from my dock, because it's handy, but is there a way to simply stop that annoying Banner in the upper right corner?
