My successful SP3 install...

FWIW, I recently installed Boot Camp on my parent's 24" iMac (iMac7,1). I had an unused XP Pro SP1 sitting on the shelf. So, I followed Microsoft's instructions and created a slipstreamed SP2 boot disc.
I used this disc and installed XP Pro SP2 with Boot Camp 2.0. After installing Windows, I then updated Boot Camp to 2.1. Once updated to 2.1, I then installed the latest Apple Software Updates. Once those were updated/installed, I then updated Windows.
Once the Microsoft Update and Validation software was installed, I was then given the option to install SP3.
SP3 downloaded and installed without incident.
Interesting note... Once SP3 was installed, there were no more Critical Updates. So, I selected Custom and was given the option to install the Root Certificates Update, Windows Media Player 11, Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0: x86 (KB829019), and Microsoft .NET Framework version 1.1. I selected these, but after downloading, none of the four would install.
Any ideas...?
Also, do I or should I install the +*AMD Catalyst drivers*+ from the ATI/AMD website?
TIA

Actually you don't need most of the optional SW DLs.
Unless you have a program that needs the .net frameworks, they just take up space, and you really do not need versions 1 or 2 since 3 is out.
I have been running XP for years, on other machines and I never bother with any optional SW except for the .net because my backup program, Norton, needs it.
As far as the drivers go, I would not install them either unless you create a restore point so if they fail, you can recover without any problem.

  • Exchange 2010 SP3 Active Directory update - can I do this 2 or 3 weeks in advance of SP3 Install?

    Hi,
As above really - is it OK to do the setup.exe /PrepareAD three weeks in advance of the Exchange SP3 install?
My thinking is: one less thing to do at the update and all Domain Controllers should have updated / replicated well in advance of the Service Pack install.
I only have a single Domain with two AD sites (Head office and Disaster Recovery).
Any issues with this / reasons NOT to do it?
    thanks,
    Adam

    Hello,
Updating AD this way shouldn't cause any problems. After that operation you should verify that all modifications were successful.
Thanks, I thought so. I will do the AD update ahead of SP3 and perform the necessary checks to ensure all is OK.

  • Win 7 won't boot after successful (?) install

    Hi Group,
Tried searching the forums for this problem and found similar postings but I think my problem is different...
I've successfuly installed Win 7 Ultimate x86 in that I get to the point of entering product key, etc. but when it does the final reboot I just get a blank screen with a blinking cursor. Tried some of the workarounds like clearing the pram/smc, deleting the ati driver .sys file (which doesn't seem to exist actually) and also using the driver autounattend from the usb drive. I'm running the latest version of boot camp.
Not sure what to try next. I've been successful installing this version of windows in VMWare and on a fujitsu-siemens laptop without any issues. I've also been successful at installing Xp via bootcamp. Really at a loss as to what to try next. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Cheers,
    Jeff

the final part of the Win 7 install and Mr Blue screen due to the Nividia driver supplied on Win 7 DVD kills iMac GT7300
    1. Install... and Blue screen!
2.Re-boot but from the Win 7 install disk – seems to work if you hold alt on boot up and select the disk to boot from!
3.When you get into the Windows installer, click past the language selection. Then click "Repair your computer".
4.Windows will scan for installations and prompt you with a list. Select your "C" drive and click Next.
5.You should be presented with a windows titled *System Recovery Options*.
At the bottom of this list you should see +Command Prompt+.
    Select the command prompt.
6.When the console opens, you can delete the offending driver using the following command:
    DEL C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\NVLDDMKM.SYS
7.Close the command prompt window and click the Restart button.
This time, boot from your hard disk.
You will complete the install with no Blue screen.
Having done this go to the Nivida web site and download the GT 7 series drivers for Windows 7.
    Install, re-boot and ...
+*... install Bootcamp drivers and right off your back to Blue Screen...*+
Repeat 1-7 and install newly downloaded drivers and off you go

  • Successful XP SP3 install, now safe mode only after OSX disk.

Hello, I have an iMac running Leopard 10.5.8.
So yesterday, using an XP Professional Disk with Service Pack 3, I was able to install XP Using Boot Camp. I was in Windows, and was continuing with the next step of inserting the Mac OSX disk to install Boot Camp Drivers, and it was installing well until it suddenly just restarted.
Now, when I try to start Windows normally (through selecting the drive by holding option, ect.) it gets to the Windows XP loading bar then just stops after one scroll and restarts itself. I CAN get into windows XP in safe mode though.
So I can only assume that something the OSX disk installed did not work with XP SP3. When in safe mode I cannot find the Boot Camp Manager in the Control Panel so I assume it never fully installed Boot Camp onto XP (though I can successfully select both OSX and Windows at start up).
So is there a way I can uninstall any drivers that the disk installed? I know that SP3 needs to have Boot Camp 2.1, but I can't get windows to open the installer in safe mode.
    Thanks
edit: Forgot to mention, no System Restores to fall back to.

Thanks, that helped me get out of safe mode.
Now though, windows still does not start normally, but if I press F8 and say "Do not restart at system failure" it does continue on into normal Windows bootup.
I have also found what is causing the issues in the boot camp install, when it gets to the RealTek Audio Driver it tries to install and causes it to crash. The boot camp on the CD says it is version 2.1.0, so I don't know exactly what's wrong there.
When I try to install the drivers manually, they all work (expept for the Realtek, which will crash it again). But after restarting, none of it seems to work, though it is displayed in the add/remove software list.
Will 2.2 fix this? I don't know if I can even install it because it doesnt seem to even have successfully installed Boot Camp into XP. Anyone know a way that I can skip the Realtek install part of the autorun of the CD? I get wireless when using autorun (up to the point of the realtek driver of course) but not when I install drivers manually.

  • Remote Exchange Management Console "W3SVC isn't running on any Exhange servers in site" and always shows older version after SP2 or SP3 installed

I'm trying to use EMC on a computer to remotely manage Exchange 2010 without having to do from the actual Exchange servers.
First off, upgrading, uninstalling or installing EMC always fails on "Stopping" services. Seams to be a pretty common problem, but no clear fix other than deleting the registry entry (HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\ExchangeServer) and the
"C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server" folder. I'm guessing this is a bug since there should not be any Exchange services that need to be stopped on a computer where I'm just trying to use the EMC tool to manage Exchange.
Next, is where when I open EMC I get "The World Wide Web Publishing Service (W3SVC) isn't running on any Exchange servers in the site. If you want to connect to Remote PowerShell, this service must be running. Make sure that the W3SVC is running on
at least one Exchange server." From all the reading I am pretty sure that this is due to the Exchange servers being on one version and EMC I'm trying to use is another version.
This is the version our Exchange Servers are on:
    ProductVersion   FileVersion      FileName
    14.02.0375.000   14.02.0375.000   C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V14\bin\ExSetup.exe
Which finally brings me to the part where no matter what SP I install to run EMC it always shows:
    ProductVersion   FileVersion      FileName
    14.01.0218.015   14.01.0218.015   C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V14\bin\ExSetup.exe
I've tried SP2, and even SP3 hopeing that an even newer version would let me connect to Exchange, but no matter what it always shows the 14.01 version above.
I've also tried installing "Exchange2010-KB2874216-x64-en" which should be the same version we are on (Update Rollup 7 for Exchange Server 2010 Service Pack 2), but get a Windows Installer Error stating, "The upgrade patch cannot be installed
by the Windows Installer service because the program to be upgraded may be missing, or the upgrade patch may update a different version of the program." This Error probably makes sense if no matter what I do I'm stuck with a version prior to SP2.
    Any ideas?

    Hi,
From your description, I would like to clarify the following things:
    1. Make sure the World Wide Web Publishing Service is running in Exchange server.
    2. Ensure that the account you use to open EMC is a member of Organization Management role group.
    3. Based on my knowledge, the error "The upgrade patch cannot be installed by the Windows Installer service because the program to be upgraded may be missing, or the upgrade patch may update a different version of the program." occurs if you install
the RU for a different SP. Please re-download the Service Pack 2 and install it on the remote computer since it hasn't been installed successfully from the above information.
What's more, here is a similar thread for your reference.

  • BO XI 3.1 SP3 Install issue on Windows Server 2008 R2 64-bit

We are trying to install the lastest Build of Business Objects XI 3.1 SP3 on a new server with Windows Server 2008 R2 64-bit OS (51038908_part1.exe,51038908_part2.rar, 51038908_part3.rar).
The setup never finish! It seems that the setup can't validate the CMS installation and is trying again and again.
In the "Enterprise XI 3.1 SP3 - Windows - Supported Platforms" document, the Windows Server 2008 R2 Entreprise 64-bit Edition is supported.
The antivirus is desactivated and the setup.exe file was launched in the administrator mode.
    Any ideas?
Edited by: Frederic Wojnarowski on Nov 22, 2010 5:45 PM

We have run into similar issues with that same package (51038908_part1.exe) which is a complete install of "BOE-3.1 package with SP3" for Windows 2008 Server that only installs in the 64-bit mode.
We had a 32-bit Oracle 10g client installed, that BOE did not recognize for the CMS - so the install was hanging at the CMS config...(no clear errors / no simple way to roll-back the failed install).
We only discovered the underlying Oracle issue when we deployed just the CMS with a local MySQL database - and then tried to point the CMS at the Oracle DB instead. It gave us TNS errors even though we could hit the same TNS without issue using SQL-PLUS on the same machine.
This lead us to assume that the 64-bit BOE couldn't connect via the 32-bit Oracle 10g drivers.
We have had trouble installing the 64-bit Oracle 10g client that we downloaded - so are now looking for some advice.
Anyone know which specific 64-bit Oracle 10g client should be used with the cumulative "BOE-3.1 package with SP3" 64-bit package (51038908_part1.exe)...?
I assume that this Oracle client will be used for any connection to the CMS / AUDIT Oracle databases - and any RPT content running on the CR-JobServers that is using an Oracle Native connection...?
Thanks in advance for the advice.

I would probably rebuild the host machine. The Exchange installation should occur without any issues, and where a problem does occur that can be an indication of a more widespread problem. Rebuild the machine, reinstall the prerequisites and try again.

    Hire Me.
    Hello Poster.
I am having the same issue, however it is most likely NOT a host box problem. The above advice is not a fix. I have 3 servers that are cloned with the same setup. 2 were fixed by doing the Vista compatibility trick, this one gave a different error (which
happened to be the same as above). This org was a 5.5 to 2000. to 2003 coexistence with 2007 currently(because the mailbox role won't install). It has something to do with AD or permissions. Server 2008 r2 inherently has problems installing exchange.
Example, having to use vista compatibility to get the mailbox role to install. SP2 patch gives the same error to some people, and also doesn't upgrade the mailbox role properly in some cases. Some people have had luck restarting the IIS admin service, but
that did not solve my copy of this error. I will repost here if I find a solution to this issue...
Same exact setup log for me as well.

  • Boot Camp Update 2.1 for Windows XP after SP3 installed?

I accidentally installed SP3 on my Boot Camp Windows XP installation, and now BC update 2.1 will not install (fails). I currently have BC 2.0 running.
Is there any way to get BC 2.1 to install AFTER SP3 has already been installed? Can I roll back SP3?

Well, I had similar issues, at least, in that I had not installed the update before SP3, actually, I wasn't even aware of the update until today when I started hunting for a driver update for my graphx and soundboard, since some games that used to be stable were crashing on me all the time.
As I actually have a licensed OEM version of XP on my bootcamped partition, re-installing it may cause me to have to call to MS to even be able to activate and I really didn't feel like doing that...
What I found out is that you can unpack the .exe file using 7Zip (and probably other similar tools) which yields two new .exe files, one of which with almost the same name, unpack that one too and you should end up with a directory named "BootCamp20ToBootCamp205" containing a bunch of files that start with "binary.". Figure out which ones are important for you (for instance, I needed Binary.Nvidiamobile_XPBin for my MBP) and add the .exe extension to the file-names, run them and follow the instructions.
This will give you at least a partial update for those components that are causing problems. Now all we have to do is wait until Apple makes an SP3 compatible installer-bundle so we don't have to go through this crap by ourselves...

    Hi Robert,
Our team is well aware of the problem with WLCS 2.0 and WLS SP3 that shows
up when using the MyBuyBeans demo.
We are looking into this problem in engineering and we will post any
solution(s) once we figure out the offending issue.
    Thanks.

After we installed SP3 for our Weblogic Server and Commerce Server, our
Example portal failed at the login step with the following error on html
    page:

  • Images do not load after XP SP3 install. IE works fine :-(

I installed XP SP3 last night and now images do not load in web pages. Not all images do not load but Players photos on PGATOUR.com and item images on Ebay and item images on Amazon.com. You can click the images in Ebay you get a popup window with grey type saying 'Image is not available. I just updated Firefox, Updated Adobe per Firefox recomendation, updated Java per firefox recomendation but still no images.
Hate to go back to IE as I have been very happy with FireFox.

Here is the error i get when i run Debug (ctrl+Shift+Enter)
It works fine inside of flash but outside of flash or the published swf calls an error.
Attempting to launch and connect to Player using URL C:\Users\oussiden\Documents\flash tutorial\imgmove\test3.swf
    [SWF] C:\Users\oussiden\Documents\flash tutorial\imgmove\test3.swf - 83667 bytes after decompression
Error #2044: Unhandled IOErrorEvent:. text=Error #2035: URL Not Found.
when i troubleshoot i found that when i comment the second line out the error disapears.
    myLoader.load(new URLRequest("img/pictures.xml"));
myLoader.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, image.processXML); // when i comment this out the error disapears

  • XP SP3 install without Bootamp 2.1 update ?

    Hi all,
Just wondering how necessary is it to update bootcamp 2.1 before proceeding with XP SP3.
I just can't get BC 2.1 installed (same issue as everyone else) and curious if anyone went SP3 without the update. Working well for you? Errors of any kind?
    Cheers!

    I DID IT!!!!!
