My sync process hangs on "Preparing Sync Preview" and never finishes

After a recent desktop software update the sync does not function properly and hangs.  I've left it for up to 2 hours and it never finishes.  Anyone else have this problem and let me know how to fix it.

Okay, after reading some other online material, suspicion fell on the Blackberry Desktop Software 7.0 version. I uninstalled that version (keeping the data), then downloaded and installed version 6.1, and all is working correctly again.
The attempts to fix the 7.0 sync problems did some strange things to my device, and I fortunately had a backup from a day or two before to restore. When I tried to sync again with 7.0 after restoring, my home screen photo disappeared and a couple of other odd things happened. A hard battery pull and reboot cleared those.
I'm now able to sync with version 6.1 without any problems. However, I'm now unable to back up to the existing file because the software says I can't write to it! One thing at a time, I guess . . .

    ChipGore,
I am having the same issue on "There is no indication that syncing calendars is even an option in iTunes, and there used to be! (not happy right now)"
My MacBook Pro running on OS X 10.9.1 won't even sync calendar with my iPhone right now.
Have you got a solution yet?

  • Downloaded new ios7 and new itunes 11.1 and now iphone 4 won't finish syncing - just stays on last step and never finishes or cancels on its own. Tried reinstalling itunes with no success.

Downloaded new ios7 and new itunes 11.1 and now iphone 4 won't finish syncing - just stays on last step and never finishes or cancels on its own. Tried reinstalling itunes with no success.

I have the same problem.. latest version of iTunes (11.1.5) and latest version of ios (7.1) but it gets stuck at "waiting for changes to be applied" and I can't cancel the sync manually. It doesn't cancel on it's own either (at least not the 8 hours over night that it was syncing) and if I unmount the phone then the phone keeps the sync going (the little spinning arrows in the upper left corner) and doesn't recognize that it's been disconnected..
I've tried restoring the phone (with little success, managed to get one more song on there) and syncing over wi-fi but nothing seems to work. Any thoughts, anyone?

  • Active Sync process "hanging"

    Hi Experts,
Last weekend an Acticve Sync task "hung" for 2 days. The Active Sync is scheduled to start every 24 hours at 8:30am.
This morning however its status was "Started, executing" yet nothing was being logged. I would expect something as its log level is 4.
The last time the AS was started was Friday but having the task in this state prevented the Saturday or Sunday morning runs from being executed.
The only way to recover was to reset IdM by restarting the webserver.
What circumstances could cause Active Sync to 'hang' like this?
Has anyone else suffered this sort of situation and if so was the cause determined?
    Any hints or tips appreciated.

We have experienced this behavior on a fairly frequent basis with our Active Directory Active Sync processes.
We are not sure why the system behaves this way.
We are in the habit of manually monitor the active sync jobs on a daily basis.
We have the log level set to 2 on our 11 Active Directory resources.
We view the timestamps on the log files to determine if the Active Syncs are truly running.
Our 11 Active Directories run every 3 hours. I note this because the time stamp on the log files should be older than 3 hours (in our case) if the Active Sync (A/S) process is truly not running.
Here is our process when restarting the A/S.
    1. Make sure the Task SARunner:<Active Directory Resource> is running.
    a. Go to the Tasks form and get a list of All Tasks.
    b. Find the SARunner:<Active Directory Resource>. If this task is not running then you need not read any further because you will need to recycle your Websever to get the Active Syncs to run.
    2. If the Task is running.
    a. Go into Debug and edit the Active Directory Resource.
    b. Change the Polling Start Time and Polling Start Date to the desired start time. Note: Set the start time at least 10 minutes into the future. So if at 11 am your making the change then set the polling start time to 11:10 (at a min.)
    b.     Save the changes.
    3. Navigate to the resources form.
    a. Stop the Active Sync
    b. Refresh the Active Sync
    c. Start the Active Sync
    d. Refresh the Active Sync.
    Good Luck.

  • Blackberry Desktop Manager hangs at "Preparing Sync Preview"

Is it possible to think that RIM wants us all to migrate to Mac or Android systems?, how can they put a new Desktop manager without testing it? I keep reading no one can sync with the new software,
    wow, we need urgent solutions
    thanks

My phone is now syncing again with Outlook. It involved 3 steps:
    1. Replacking Desktop 7 with 6.1
    2. Rebooting the device (the apps were disappearing and the Desktop could not identify the phone. I only discovered the solution because the battery went dead).
    3. When the calendar would not sync, creating a new .pst file in Outlook and mapping the calendar on the Desktop to it.
Croos my fingers, but it is working again.

  • New Desktop Software Version 7 Hangs at "Preparing sync preview"

PC Version, upgraded on prompt this morning, now get above message, so can't sync.
Uninstalled and tried to find Version 6.0 on site - clicked on prior versions, but only takes to new version.
    HELP!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

This solution works perfectly for me too with BB curve 8250.    Will not be going anywhere near  Desktop 7 until RIM announces a fix.    I just wasted half a day of my life trying to recover from V7.

  • Possible sync process hanging my new Macbook Pro

I've searched the web for an answer to this but can't find anything addressing it. In brief, my new (2 weeks) Macbook Pro 13 stalls (with/without spinning rainbow) and I've noticed this possible culprit in the console app. I can't seem to identify what app is responsible for this and am hoping that someone out there has an answer:
    "15/Jul/09 15-Jul-09 9:27 kernel /drv/ MacAsyncDevice.cpp:229 Wait for hostwait_work_complete_asyncdevice (02:00) finished with timeout."
Can anyone tell me what is generating this? I have multiple successive instances every time my system hangs.

thank you for the input carolyn but i confirm that i do not use mobileme. any idea what else that console message could be? i am going to monitor console every time the system hangs to see if its the same culprit but would appreciate some answers. also this has been logged here: http://getsatisfaction.com/apple/topics/syncprocess_hanging_leopard_10_5_7_on_macbookpro

  • Iphone 4: updated to IOS 6.2.  Blank Mail screen, and stuck at 21 emails.  Can't access anything.  Cannot Sync with iTunes either.  It cycles and never gets beyond step 2, then recycles

I have an iphone running OS6.01. After updating, March 3 was my last sync.  iTunes recognizes the phone, but the progress bar sits on eithe step 1 or 2 of 7 steps. Then it starts over.  The device icon on the left shows syncing taking place, as does the phone.
Have rebooted the MBpro and the phone several times.  Have held down the top and home buttons until the apple appears, to no avail.
Also starting March 3rd my iPhone has been struggling;  My Mail is stuck at 21, and all I get is a blank screen when I click on the app. I have now other apps that won't open at all now...and when I go into settings to click on mail, I get a blue hightlighted box that stalls and goes nowhere.
    Thoughts...solutions are welcome

    Apple - Fix this!!!!!!
Apple, THIS IS WHERE YOU NEED TO LOOK on iOS 6 regarding "WIFI Lockout"!!!!!!
When this happens (WIFI freezes up aka "WIFI Lockout") – you can not get on internet while using WIFI!!!!!
You could be in the middle of surfing or using any app that makes data calls based on DNS and suddenly you can go no where or do nothing!
Yea sure, you can restart the WIFI connection, but WHO wants to CONTINUALLY do that?????
Apple (or any curious iOS 6 user that wants to see my point), when this happens open up a browser before you reset, disconnect/reconnect WIFI ( I tried both safari and chrome ) and type type 74.125.227.144 (google) and then “go”. A google search page will come up and you will be able to execute a search. (of course any link you click on will not work as it is dependant on DNS resolution)
Non DNS traffic works so the issue is not the WIFI connection to the access point!
APPLE, FOCUS ON FIXING THIS DNS DATA ISSUE AND YOU WILL GET MANY PEOPLE OFF YOU BACK!!!!
I KNOW THIS IS NOT ALL OF THE PROBLEMS WITH iOS 6, BUT THIS IS A HUGE PROBLEM NOT BEING ABLE TO SURF OR GET DATA THE iOS 6 DEVICE IS REQUESTING!!!!!

  • When I am syncing my iPhone 4s it's getting to step 6 out of 6 and then saying that it's "waiting for changes to be applied" and then it just stops and never finishes syncing.

I also have a new mac book pro. I bought it specifically for this reason. I wanted to make using my devices as easy and streamlined as possible.
ANY ADVICE WOULD BE VERY HELPFUL.

Just for the record: now my other favorite podcast says it can't play.  Stoopid.  I'm cut off from my favorite content.

  • My laptop goes to sleep during the Time Capsule backup process and never finished. What can I do?

I have an older MacBook laptop that I want to backup on my new 2TB Time Capsule. I have set everything up just fine (apparently) and the backup process starts out fine. About an hour or so into the backup process, my laptop goes to sleep. The laptop is plugged into AC power so it is not a battery loss. I have set 'hot corners' so that my screen saver is disabled. Nothing seems to keep the laptop running until the Time Machine process completes. Any guidance appreciated. Thanks!

You don't indicate what operating system the MacBook is using, but in general try the following:
Open System Preferences (gear icon on the dock)
    Open Energy Saver
Adjust Computer Sleep to read Never
Adjust Screen Saver to read Never
    Run the backup
When the backup is done, change the Energy Saver settings back to normal

  • Sync hangs on "calendar" sync since I updated to Mountain Lion yesterday

I finally updated my Macbook air from Lion to Mountain Lion yesterday. During the update, I got a kernel panic message, and had to install ML using the full update process. All works fine .. apparently but today I tried to sync my Iphone 4 using ITunes ver. 10.6.3 (25) and despite the Iphone is recognised, the sync process hangs on step 2 : calendar sync ..
    Any idea ?
    Thanks
    Yves

Adding info : after disabling the auto-sync, I was able to disable the calendar sync on this Iphone. Then the process for contacts, musics, movies, apps runs well.
Enabling the calendar sync again, it hangs .. again.
btw, I'm not using icloud but local sync.

  • High CPU/Process hang on VDI environment

I have a environment that is currently using Adobe Reader XI running on roughly 125 virtual desktops.
In some of those instances, when adobe reader was launched and closed after, the process hangs up in the background and takes on high CPU. The only means to recover is to open task manager and kill the offending .exe
    Thoughts?

Can you try to disable Protected Mode in Adobe Reader [Edit | Preferences | Security (Enhanced)].
