My system was running perfect, now, NO POST
My system was running rock solid yesterday. Last night, I install this case mod, a cooler master musketeer- basically a fancy fan controller. I noticed that after installation, my cold cathode lights would flicker- and my system rebooted itself once after idling for about 2 minutes in WINXP. No problem, I thought, the new power supply system I ordered from newegg was arriving tomorrow, and it would solve the power drain that the musketeer was causing me.
So, tomorrow comes, and I get the new power system, an Enermax Noisetaker, 470W, supposedly a new top-of-the-line power supply. It had some fancy stuff like "dual 12v rails" which had 16A on one rail for the CPU/Mainboard, and 15A on the other 12v rail for the graphics card, hard drives, etc.
So I install this fancy new power supply, and my system boots up perfect. Cool I think, as I fire up the game Battlefield:Vietnam. I play this game for like an hour straight, no problem. Then, as I am navigating through some menus within the game, the game suddenly crashes to desktop. Wanting to duplicate this error again, I click on the Battlefield icon to restart the application. However, the game does not even finish loading. I get the EA games intro screen, and suddenly my speakers start making all kinds of loopy/static noise. I attempt to ALT+F4 to close the game- but it doesn't work. I press CTRL+ALT+DEL, but task manager does not popup. Finally, I decide to press reset and then... NO POST.
No singal from monitor, no POST beep, nothing. The bracket lights indicate that the system is failing on "Early Chipset Initialization". Nothing I seem to do can correct this problem. Things I have tried:
-Resetting the CMOS
-Removing the "Mustketeer" mod
-Reinstalling my old Enermax 350W power supply (which is the one I was using while my system was running rock solid; pre-musketeer)
-I tried switching the RAM to some old corsair sticks I had (sticks which also ran perfect before the mod)
-I tried one stick of ram; In all 3 slots
Edit: New things I've tried
The system is now barebones. There is no hard disk attached, no optical disks, no floppy drive, etc. Now, only the CPU, motherboard, motherboard LED bracket, power supply, and power/reset switches, and one stick of RAM. Still, all I get is "Early Chipset Initializatoin" warning.
Edit 2: Because my system ran so well before I installed the Coolermaster Musketeer and the Enermax Noisemaker, I'm betting that it was one of these components that caused my motherboard to DIE. Which one do you think it is? [STRIKEOUT]I am leaning towards the musketeer because my problems began when I installed it last night, whereas I installed the Enermax today because I thought it would solve the energy deficiency caused by the muskteteer. However, I also feel as if the "dual 12v" design of the Enermax is largely untested with the AMD64, and feel as if the 15/16A rating for each 12v line somehow shortchanged my CPU and caused a malfunction.[/STRIKEOUT] I am going to rebuild my system again, but I'd like to avoid this problem in the future. So, given the choices, which would you guess the problem hardware to be?
Edit 3: I guess this is a warning to anyone who happens upon this post in the future. I have installed the Coolermaster Musketeer in my old AthlonXP system, and so far, it has caused no problems with my system. As such, I cannot prove that the Enermax Noisetaker EG475P-VE-SFMA has caused my system to die, all I am saying is that my system DIED shortly upon installing it.
i saw this, could this be a problem?

Subject: RE: Problems with PC-3200 rev 2 sticks
Hi,
We are very sorry about the problems you have experienced. We will do the best we can to get your problem solved.
Did you test them one module at a time? There is an incompatibility issue between 2 x 512MB PC3200 and K8T800 chipset. The K8T800 BIOS does not take some brands of ICs. If each module tests fine individually, your problem is probably related to that. If they fail testing even in one module load, it could be faulty modules. Either way, we will replace them. But we just need to know the root cause of your problem with your help on further testing.
In case we need to replace them, we will have to replace with 2 x 512MB modules too since there are some price difference between 2 x 512MB and 1GB stick and we can’t charge end user directly for the price difference due to reseller permit issue.
Sincerely,
Technical Support

I used to shoot video in my Powershot S3 IS (Format MVI_.AVI) and load them into iPhoto, I used quicktime pro so I could convert for emailing to family members. That was when I was running Leopard now with Mt. Lion nothing works. Videos do not open at all. Any simple suggestions, I am not real keen on iMovie Productions and not real certain how they compress for emailing attachments. Something simple here that I am missing? Thanks so much. I am a grandpa trying to share with family members far away (quickly & simply).
I am surprised that Apple did not build a converter into Mt. Lion.
Apple does have a converter built into Mountain Lion. It is call "Quicktime." However, in order to use this converter, you must first make sure the compression formats are playback compatible with QT. Basically, there are three levels of QT compatibility. The lowest is "Playback." These file can be played by QT but may not be conversion or edit compatible with QT. The second level is QT "Conversion" compatible. These files are playback compatible and can be converted to other compression formats using QT. "Edit" compatible media files are "Fully" compatible with QT since the can be played, converted and/or edited by QT. The main problem here is that AVI is a "legacy" file format that has not been officially supported by Microsoft for more than 11 years when it was replaced by Windows Media multimedia file/compression formats. Many of the original compression formats used in AVI files have never been transcoded for the Mac platform, use beyond system 9, or use beyond PPC platforms. In addition, some commonly used AVI codecs are proprietary or use non-standard (hybrid) profile and level combinations. In short, there is little wonder that Apple has been distancing itself from this outdated file type as it re-writes and upgrades its own QT structure to support more standardized, more scalable, more modern high definition file types and compression formats. It is really unfortunate that users continue to use this outmoded file type simply because it is freely available, easy to use, or they are simply too lazy to move on to a more modern or more efficient file types and/or compression formats.
I tested Wondershare Video Converter Ultimate for the Mac, which seems to be the "state of the art". I may be purchasing a new camera which might create a whole new set of variables. This program seems to cover all bases and is great for novices.
There are many third-party apps available if you wish to search for them. Many are even available in the App Store. Most do their job well and it is usually a matter of personal user preference as to which is best.
HandBrake seems more suited to folks with more experience and knowledge.
I mentioned Handbrake primarily because it is free and easy to use when you employ the included conversion presets options. (The TV options can normally be used for almost any situation depending on the source file and output requirements.) It is also excellent for more experienced users, but has a somewhat limited choice of output options as it does not access the user's system QT codec component configuration. -
Email was working perfect, now only some arrive (from Yahoo)
Hello,
The strangest thing. Email on my Macbook Pro (running Lion) was working perfectly and has been since Lion and of course since before that - I had other problems with Lion but never mail. My actual mail account is with Yahoo.
Now, weirdly, some emails are being correctly collected by the Lion mail client, but others are not. To check it wasn't me going mad, or some quirk where all my friends were suddenly doing something wrong, I tested it myself from another mail account and:
1. The email was correctly delivered to the Yahoo mailbox (verified by opening the mailbox using the web access).
2. The email was correctly delivered to my iPhone.
3. However the desktop client in Lion steadfastly refuses to see this message or download it (even though it remains on the server unread).
Any ideas?
I am not a Mac expert so this apparently self-generated and random problem could be an annoying long term problem.
Thanks in advance
Alastairsorted. stupid really. for some reason the Mac had put one of the mailboxes (the offending one) offline. no reason why, not obvious it had done it, but anyway - sorted.

Flash CS4 was running fine now running really slow
I have had Flash cs4 for the mac for several months now and the first project I started was running fine with no sluggishness, I was using it for basic animaton so it was never asking too much. the file size was about 150 mb towards the end which was fine until all of a sudden it just crashed after asking it to do something simple and it started running slowly since, I'd barely made any changes but after the 'crash' selecting anything on the stage or moving anything would have about a 1 second delay which is frustrating! it runs smoothly on start up for several minutes then will just start running slowly again. I have since started a new project which has the exact same problem and is only 18mb in size! my mac book pro is barely a year old and has plenty of memory etc. I know that many people have reported sluggishness but this was running fine until something 'unknown' happened.
Can anyone help? Thanks for your help, I did try hiding the larger layers but the rest are really simple and hiding all layers except the one I was working on made no difference.

sharonCan you start Firefox in [[Safe mode]] ?
You can also do a clean reinstall and download a fresh Firefox copy from http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all.html and save the file to the desktop.
Uninstall your current Firefox version and remove the Firefox program folder before installing that copy of the Firefox installer.
It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
You can initially skip the step to create a new profile, that may not necessary for this issue.

I have a mid-2010 iMac (27") 2.66 GHz Core i5 (750) with 4GB RAM that I bought second-hand almost three years ago. It worked perfectly...until I 'upgraded' to Mavericks last Fall, & all my trouble began. At first, certain apps started getting kinda wobbly, especially Chrome which was really unstable. Eventually one day on boot-up I got the gray screen/apple logo/spinning wheel/loading bar--and then it would shut down. I got apple care on the phone and we went through a laundry list of various tests and start-up attempts. We reset PRAM, got me into safe mode and eventually hit a point where we were going to have to wipe the HD and start fresh--except I didn't have a back-up (shame on me!). He told me 1) the error code that came up after running disk utitility (?) indicated no problem with HD and that it was software related; and, 2) to take it into Genius Bar, have them backup data and then I could call him back and we'd do the deed and then reinstall with backed-up files. Tried but Geniuses said, "We don't do that" and told my hubby how to. We bought the equipment and prepared to back-up using my son's MacBook Pro. No glory. Nada.
After much back-and-forth with 'geniuses' and guy on phone, we took it to MicroCenter. Their diagnostics said HD is shot--get new one. After pricing everything out we went with iFixit's instructions, and I ordered the identical (I thought) HD for Mac online from manufacturer. We installed it, but had wee problem with LCD temp sensor and so fan ran like crazy. I also bought a 2TB external back-up and did routine back-ups, so I should be good there. I am aware of that third rail on the HD's with sensor but thought I could circumvent that and 'knew' it was really the LCD sensor that was the problem. I was traveling for months all winter/spring so didn't have time to devote to a pesky fan noise. HOWEVER, with increased use being home for several weeks, suddenly we are back to square one it seems. One day the machine shut down and has not rebooted since--about three weeks ago now. Haven't called apple care but tried to reset PRAM and tried to restart using thumb drive where I thought I had saved a copy of Mavericks--didn't work so don't know for sure if it's on there. I opened machine back up and saw that LCD sensor wire was not connected and falling apart. I ordered a new wire which installed tonight with no apparent problems, crossed my fingers and...NADA. Same-o, same-o: gray screen, apple, spinning wheel, loading bar...then it shuts down and goes to black. I have tried to restart with all kinds of codes: reset PRAM, safe mode, hold down option key, hold down Command+R...again, nothing. I even replaced the keyboard batteries. As the progress bar fills up near the end, I hear a little click and whirr, fan running softly, but then it just shuts down. I should mention that the PRAM reset did actually start out like it was working--it shut down/restarted but then the daggone apple/gray scree/spinning wheel/progress bar would kick in again...and then shut down 5-10 minutes later. Any ideas, folks? Please help?Your internal hard drive is not good.
Your Time Machine drive with your backups on it, if these backups were created using OS X Mavericks version of Time Machine, these will not be accessible by early OS X versions of Time Machine.
Plus, Time Machine stores data and nothing of the OS X system.
Plus, you want to save/retrieve your data that is still on your iMac's internal drive.
So, we can try to get your iMac back to running OS X 10.9 Mavericks.
The most easiest and direct way to do this is to just purchase another external 2 TB hard drive (preferably a fast FireWire 800 external hard drive)
You can use your OS X Snow Leopard install DVD to format this new hard drive as an OS X Extended Format with GUID partition scheme.
Create two partitions on the new external drive one that is big enough for OS X and all applications (say 500 Gbs) and the remaining partition for storage so you can manually copy all your important data ( and maybe your Applications folder, too) from your Mac's internal drive (if it is accessible) to the large partition on this new drive.
Once the drive is formatted using the Disk Utility app that is on your OS X Snow Leopard DVD disc, you can then proceed to install OS X Snow Leopard to this new external drive and now giving you a bootable hard drive that will have a fairly fast, working OS X version your iMac can boot to, now.
Once OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard is install to this new external hard drive, you need to boot to this to get up and running.
Use OS X Software Update feature to get you back to OS X 10.6.8 Snow Leopard so you can regain use of The Mac App Store.
You have two options, now.
You still need to attempt to manually copy over all your important data and applications over to the large storage partition you created on this new external drive.
Once you have done this, you need to search for, purchase, download and install a data cloning app, like CarbonCopyCloner or SuperDuper to be able to clone your new hard drive's system back to your iMac's internal drive once you have resolved/replaced you iMac's Internal hard drive, again, if it is damaged.
If you still want to be able to access your Time Machine Backup drive, you can go ahead and try to re-download OS X 10.9 Mavericks ( you may need to use a Combo Update version from the Mac App Store, now as Mavericks is up to 10.9.5, now. You will upgrade install Mavericks over your new OS X Snow Leopard partition on the new external hard drive.
If, successful, you should be able to access your Time Machine backup at this point.
You will be running your iMac from this external drive until the internal drive is repaired/replaced.
The other idea is if you do not care about your Time Machine backups on the other drive, you can foresake the data on this drive and keep this new external drive , and your iMac, running OS X 10.6.8 Snow Leopard and forget about upgrading to Mavericks, at all, since you had so many issues with it. -
Safari was running slow, Now it Crashes
For the last month or two, i have noticed that safari has been running slow, some pages wouldn't even work, logmein to be specific. Yesterday I added some extensions which to date I had not added to safari. Now when i try to go to preferences it won't open preferences. I will try a second time and then it crashes. I don't know if this will help. but here it is thanks.

M7667c prob: was working perfect, now no video on startup
A friend gave me a HP M7667C desktop tower recently; at first, it was fine, fired up great and I was removing all the games and aftermarket software he had amassed on the HD. After that, I began to remove unnecessary PCI hardware from the PC: WiFi card, 56K modem and TV/FM card (with the cables leading to ports in front and back). I also added 2GB more DDR2 RAM (came stock with 2GB DDR2 RAM, total 4GB) and replaced the processor from an E6400 Core2 Duo (2.13 GHz, 2MB) to an E8500 Core2 Duo (3.17 GHz, 6MB), both use Socket #775. I think I did too much without checking progress gradually, because now when I fire it up, not even an intro page pops up; the CD-ROM lights & power light come on, fans come on, HD spools but no picture on the monitor whatsoever. I've backtracked to the E6400, removed the 2GB aftermarket RAM, replaced all other cards, replaced the power supply, you name it...to no positive effect. The graphics card is the stock nVidia GeForce 7500LE and was working just fine. I even re-seated everything...nothing. Monitor is fine, VGA cable is fine.
Aside from that, I did get a switch box which allows 2 towers to use the same monitor: it was a mechanical pushbutton switch box, not the electronic type. It came out of the box, got hooked up, I tried to punch buttons...nothing. One button popped out and they'd alternate properly with presses, 1-2-1-2-1-2, etc. So, both towers were feeding signal into a single monitor for a few moments. Well, I really did it now. I'm about ready to beat this thing senseless but I came here to seek advice. It was working fine...and I screwed it up.
This question was solved.

Here are the compatible CPU's: Intel Core 2 Duo E6x00 with Dual Core technology (Conroe).
Please note that it specifically states (Conroe). Therefore, I don't believe that any of those you mentioned will work properly. At least, HP doesn't support them.
I haven't used my flt sim for quite some time, but I know that they are memory hogs. I don't believe that the CPU is as important as the amount of memory. It appears that you are running Win XP 32-bit. This means that you are limited to 4 GB (OS is only able to utilize 3.5 GB) of memory.
Since the computer is over 7 years old, personally, I wouldn't spend a lot of money on upgrades.

4G LTE was running fast, now at like 0.5 download speed
My 4G has always run fast, but now all of a sudden it is super slow, sometimes it at a complete standstill, in the Canton, Ohio area.
skh24,
Let's look further into this! What zip code are you in and does this only happen indoors? Are you aware if other Verizon Wireless users are experiencing this as well? Which device do you have? Please try powering off and remove/insert the sim and test. Thank you.

Alright, then the problem may be software related.
To eliminate the OS as the problem, boot into your Recovery partition and elect to reinstall OS X. You will lose none of your files, only having the OS install a 'fresh' copy (always best to have a backup, of course, but this is non-destructive).
Same problem?
Download, unzip and run EtreCheck and post the results in a reply here.
Call back...

Help Me PlzGo to the Windows Control Panel and select Boot Camp applet. In that applet there is a Boot Drive option. Select Mac OS X.
Or restart the system and hold down the Option key for a few second. A Boot Menu screen will come up. Select Macintosh HD.
Once in OS X go to the Sys Prefences, Startup Disk and select Macintosh HD Mt Lion 10.8.2 and click Restart then Restart again. the system will now restart in Mac OS X.
To boot back to Windows do the same, Startup Disk, and select Windows then Restart and Restart again. -

3.6.13 was running by now get "unable to connect" notice while IE still works
No changes have been made to the PC or the network access. Just go the notice 'unable to connect'.
A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox without informing you about that, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process.

System will reboot, and won't POST
Hi y'all
Yesterday when I was browsing the web, my system rebooted.
Then when it restarted, it wouldn't boot.
The screen was frozen, and I could see the POST as far as the harddrives and DVD-ROM. But the system was hanging.
So I had to reset the system and then it got even worse .
No beep, black screen, monitor in standby status.
The DVD-ROM and DVD-+RW drive are spinning up. The harddrives are also spinning up, not as far as usual, and then it's hanging again.
The harddrive activity LED is also burning constantly.
When I shut the system down, the numlock LED is still burning
It isn't starting up, only if I reset the mainboard whit the jumper.
Then after a while it reset's itself and it goes back all the way back to the beginning of this topic
Any ideas?
It never happend before, nothing changed in BIOS or drivers, not OC'ed.
This all started since yesterday, then after a few hours it happend again. So it only happend twice at one day so far
Regards ArjanWell, I've bought an Antec True Power 480W PSU .
But that didn't solved a thing.
It's still hanging during a game or browsing the web. Or even doing nothing in Windows will cause a lock up.
So I contacted my retailer, and he said that it was my memory.
He said that all mobo's with the 865/875 chipset are known to have errors with CL2 memory .
Sure, it was running perfect for almost six months now. So that's bullshit.
But my system has been running stable for two days.
This morning I used the system, and it worked good.
But when I got home from work this afternoon, it wouldn't start up again.
The fans are spinning, the drives are spinning up, but the keyboard led's are hanging and so is the HDD-led.
After clearing the CMOS 100 times, it worked, so I've hit the F1 key, to customize BIOS settings. While changing the time and date, it locked up again. Second attempt, the BIOS screen turned grey, and I couldn't read a single word, and yes it locked up again.
Ow yeah, another important piece of information:
Since I've managed to let the system boot up, every single time that I turn the system off, and then start it up again, it beeps 4 times. Meaning that the CMOS is cleared, because I must press F1 to change the BIOS settings. But the jumper is placed correctly.
Could it be my CMOS battery or a corrupt CMOS chip?
